What would you recommend for someone to do if they are trying to brainstorm story and plot ideas? And can you detail your story-planning process a little (like how you plan it all out or if you do at all)? Thank you!

Write ideas out by hand. I feel like the actual motion of writing words on a page is like opening a door to your imagination.

Sometimes, though, you might just need to sit down and test the waters by writing, to let the story unfold and connect on its own. That is what I do probably 85% of the time. I have a seed of an idea and I’ve scribbled some thoughts and random snippets of dialgoue down in my journal, but then it comes to a point where I simply have to write it to begin to figure it out.

But I will say that I am not a planner by any means. I write by the seat of my pants.

If you need the structure of planning and plotting before you write, I highly recommend checking out Susan Dennard’s website. She has some incredible resources for writers, and she has an really intricate way of plotting and revising that you might find helpful.
