Heart and Hustle: with playful wellness coach, De’Nicia Harper, Episode #119
Heart and Hustle: Visionary Healers, Movers, and Shakers,
with your host, Paulette Rees-Denis,
and guest, Playful Consultant, De’Nicia Hilton Harper
Fun, people, that’s what we are talking about today, me and De’Nicia! I love this so much, as there was a time when I worked all the time, even though my work has always been fun, I was on the 24/7 roller coaster for several years, until, Bam-burnout!
I now know at almost 64 how to have much more fun, and take way better care of myself, my body, and my dreams too…De’Nicia is so fun. We talk about what we take for granted in our lives, and how fast we can go and how careless we can be. Let’s talk about bodyliciousness and our relationships with our own body.
She’s got a Playground, a gathering for folks to embrace their beauty and authentic selves. So have a look and listen and enjoy…
This is important stuff, friends, and I’d love to know what you get from our conversation…

Happy Monday and a gift for you today!
YOUR GIFT FOR JOINING MY COMMUNITY
A Three-Part Morning Clarity Ritual
[image error]
(Some of you new friends here may have gotten this when you signed up, So take this as a reminder! )
Are you, my friend, ready to feel tuned in and turned on with a simple way to start your day? Do you wake up feeling happy to wake up and be alive?
After years of working with myself, and teaching clients, I have this fantastic morning ritual for energy and clarity each day. This is a great time for committing to new Epic Self-Care habits that will make you feel connected, increase self-compassion, self-love and reward you inside and out.
Make each and every day a joy and success! This is my tried and true Three Part Morning Clarity Ritual!
These are three components for you to add to every morning:
Meditate | Percolate | Dance Break
Meditate, oh yeah, it’s time to sit down and quiet your mind. First thing in the morning is my preferred time, but anytime during your day is good. I usually get up at 5 am, and start with 5 minutes of just sitting and breathing. You can choose to listen to a guided meditation on your earbuds, or just sit quietly. You could do this while still in bed but personally, I prefer to go to my own sacred spot, which you can make so simple or deck it out with flowers and candles and cushions. Whatever feels inspiring for you.
As you start, slow down the breath. Deep inhales and exhales. Breathe in through your nostrils and fill the belly up, expanding with fresh air. This air is your life force, your energy, your chi. Exhale and hollow out the belly. Really expel all the air through your mouth. (I’ll put some breathing cleansing and immune boosting exercises down below for you too.) Sitting still and breathing, notice your mind chatter, acknowledge it, and then return to your breath. Focusing on the tip of your nose helps. Another great tip is to focus on your forehead, with your eyes closed, and see clouds wafting by, across the brows, and let them take away that chatter and bring you into a clearer, quieter place. This can be for 5 minutes, or 10, or 15, or even 30 once you build your habit. Notice how you feel after.
And remember, no judgment. It takes a while to establish this kind of practice. But you will love me when you do, and find that when you DON’T take the time for yourself like this, you may not feel in alignment with yourself that day. Just sayin’!
TIPS:
TIP: Insight Timer is a great phone app to help you with your meditations. You can set it up however works best for you, with bells, music, silence. Plus they have great meditations and instructions too… I use it every day! www.insighttimer.com
TIP: There are other great places and people on the internet who teach meditation and you can check them out if you desire: Kristoffer Carter is a great connection, as is Deepak Chopra, and David Ji.
PERCOLATETime to rise and shine!
What is brewing, besides your morning coffee or tea?
After meditation is a great time to sit with your journal, and let the thoughts and words pour out.
Some days it is easier than others, sometimes the words that come out are nonsense, sometimes they are poetic, sometimes words come out as to-do lists, some days the word flow feels like divine guidance- love those downloads!
Some call this a brain dump because it is so good to get everything out of your head and onto the page… This brings so much clarity, instead of feeling confused and overwhelmed with all those ideas floating in your brain! I highly recommend you get a journal just for this. Julia Cameron, in her early book, The Artist’s Way ( a must read!), writes about this exercise and calls it the morning pages. She recommends writing 3 pages a day. And so do I!
Once you get into a groove with this, it becomes easier and oh, so important to continue… you are creating new habits here! Delicious. And then the creativity kicks in, the clearer you will get, the more you toss out of your head and onto the page. But remember to not edit while you are writing, no spell check, no changing…you may never reread what you just wrote… or you can go back and highlight the great ideas.
Remember that this is just for you. No one else has to read what you write. Such a great way to start your day…
DANCE BREAKGet up offa that thing, dance and you’ll feel better… thanks James Brown…
Babe…you got to move that body! And adding movement to your new morning ritual is a surefire way to wake up, shake off sleepiness and stiffness, change your energy, shift your mood. Uplifting!
(Any time of day, really… I say dance all day long!)
But seriously, you may have ways you like to work your body, such as yoga, running, dancing around your kitchen to some great rock tunes, free form woo woo dancing, riding your peloton or your bike around the neighborhood, belly dancing (my Global Caravan style of course!), Pilates, maybe even some jazzercise! What style of movement calls your name, my friend?
It does feel great to get outside first thing in the morning, so I do love my walking/running time outdoors listening to motivational podcasts or books on audio, or just the birdsong. You might add this in too. Breathing in fresh air and watching the sunrise while walking and breathing deep! Think of combining and blending styles, like a yoga flow mixed with some dancing and strength training — I find if I do it first thing in the morning, it gets done! Switch off styles every other day or so, like cross-training, if that feels good. Or do the one that feels the best on your body.
Time to get up off the couch and raise your beautiful energy. You will feel so much better and more energized when you work your god pod, your body, and shift into some good energy while juicing up your joints. So you can move forward with intention, direction, and a great mood.
Doing these daily will help set your day up for success. Inside and out with connection and clarity, and a desire to take on the day with a beautiful intention.
Let me know how these work out for you or if you have any questions. Stay tuned for more tips and inspirations. I am so glad you are here, and can’t wait to see more of you too.
*AND let me know how these work for you… I’d love your responses**AND if you want a really pretty PDF of this with a little bonus on it, you can download it here…Ahhhh, so good…Now dear one, go out and RADIATE some of your love and creative juices, and make this the best day of your life…with so much gratitude…
And please forward this to your friends who would be interested in joining up and watching and reading about our gatherings and more… thank you for spreading the love!

It’s Still Sunday
It’s still Sunday
A bit of heaven in a crowded house
The air blows hot
The wind blows cold
Ripping through the walls
Wearing down the trim
But the bones stay firm
And it’s still Sunday
Taking my time
Juicing my hips
Reinventing my wheels
Pictures telling stories
Words telling lies
Soul bearing truths
And it’s still Sunday
Fingers betraying and deceiving
The groans with desire
Days come and go
Say hello to something new
Over and over, new again
Look at my bones in a new light
The spirit soars, the lens clicks
I’m still here and it’s still Sunday
Into the sea of eagerness
Desktops opening in question
Looking for the think, the answer, the question
It’s show and tell all over again
It’s the great unraveling

Morning Rituals and a poem for you…
Sunday morning…. and Happy May Day (yesterday!)
a time to celebrate my friend… Spring is here ( or Fall down under) and it is always a good time for self-reflection and growth….
Do you have a morning ritual, something that lights you up, that you hold sacred, that brings you clarity and groundedness for your day, sets your creative juices on fire? Every day? Weekdays? Weekends?
My weekdays are my alone mornings, full of Paulette time, with meditating, journaling, and working out… what I call my Morning Clarity Ritual–Meditate, Percolate, and Dance Break. I find that if I don’t create that time for myself my day can go wonky…Some days are different, maybe I don’t do all three, but it is my preference for sure. Weekends are usually different kinds of rituals, like Sunday mornings are usually a small gathering of my friends for a hike or a bike ride, like Sunday morning church! And that is a meditation of sorts, connecting with nature, getting my eyes full of the beauty of my gorgeous surroundings and connection with my friends… and that turns into bloody mary’s and brunch… such a great ritual to have! And all so very sacred and special. Self-care at it’s finest…
The writing, though, is what is the thing that connects me to me, the most. Sometimes my words are poetic, sometimes to-do lists, sometimes rambling on and on, wish lists, envisioning, power statements, stories, word games… whatever is striking me at that time, intuitively. What wants to come out of my body, my heart, and my soul! There is so much power and clarity in that type of connection with myself, and words are powerful. They make us, and they can break us too…
That is why I am delighted to share my mini-workshop with you this

It’s been just over a year!
Friend, Nooooo.
Not the pandemic, please, let’s not talk about that any more…my friend!
Let’s talk about passion and creativity, growth, expansion, and all your possibilities!
I birthed my 4th book just over a year ago, last April, with a lovely book release party, a great cast of early reviewers, a number one best seller on Amazon…
and I’m still in love with my book, and it is still relevant and timely, for those of us wanting change, needing to make a change, in life, in lifestyle, in personal love and self-compassion, in work and career and mostly in stepping into our own creative zone of genius as we follow our desires!
This is my life’s work, guiding, leading, creatives into their own confidence and clarity on their desires, which I’ve been doing for 30+ years now, in art, in business, and in life.
How to fly your freak flag, because you are not alone, you are just your own! Different, creative, with a vision that you want to bring into being…
a matter of looking at and changing your words and how you talk about yourself, how you connect with your inner self, or your higher self, or your god, and how you listen in…
That’s why my book is still so relevant because it shares tools and bits of inspiration for you to take that next step, develop new daily habits of connection and clarity, and learning your WHY!
Lots of juice for thought, my friend… you can check my book out, here…
One of the most valuable tools I offer is how to establish a daily routine, and journaling is one of the key components… getting into the deeper connection with yourself, like listening in to what your body, brain, and soul want to say…
And that’s why I’m offering this mini-workshop,
From the Body to the Page
to get you connected, to help you gain clarity, to start a new habit, to let the words flow, baby, flow, because that brings a sense of freedom, of renewal, and release. It can also bring a poetic quality to your thoughts, a rambling of craziness, or a story line for your next book. Who knows?
One of the most important things I do with my clients and students is to write, to journal, to get it down on the page, out of the body, and sometimes even back into the body! To embody all that you are thinking and feeling! ohhhh, so good…
so come on over and join me now, for this 1 1/2 hour event, bring your journals and let’s get your writing mojo started, or returning, or wherever you are in that process!
From the Body to the Page…May 4th, 10-11:30 am,Cost is only $27…BUT!!!
get the EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT, register in the next five days for the workshop for just $17.00!
1 1/2 hour workshops with journaling, questions, tools, inspirations, all to help you build a new and exciting habit of journaling every day, coming back to your words! This will help you with feeling a sense of renewal not only in your brain, but in your body…
Click here now to register! and I can’t wait to write with you in class!Let me know if you have any questions… and see you there…

Journaling is my therapy!
Hello love,
I love to ask you questions! If you’ve ever worked with me before, you know me, I’m always asking you to dive in deeper to find out how you are, how you feel, how you love yourself, your body and of course, how is the dance working out for you!
Some of you are journalers and already have a daily practice! Yay to you! Feels truly great, right? Clearer in your head, moving forward with intention in your daily life and work. It is therapy for me, to keep me connected to myself, my dreams, my actions, my sanity!
But some of you want to journal but don’t feel like you have the time or desire or even focus to sit down and write every day, some of you feel like writing is sooooo hard or you don’t have anything to say, and some of you are afraid to write down those feelings, afraid to dive in. Lots of different excuses or reasons or fear to creating a beautiful habit of self-renewal and reflection!
Part of the reason I love to work with you amazing creatives in this way is because of what I have witnessed, either in those intensives, but also in my Dance and Desire classes and workshops and retreats! YOU have blown my mind, when you actually have sat down to answer some of my journaling prompts. YOU, who think you can’t write, have written and shared some of the MOST profound words, statements, stories with me/us, and I have seen how it created a new vision in yourself, toward self-compassion, poetry, beauty, awareness, release, and so much more! And sharing those words is a part of the human experience!
We all want to be seen and heard!
Yes, that is being human, not a human doing, but a human being!
How many of you remember any of those times, in class, on a retreat, at home? The words to describe your dance, your body, and how you feel when you move, and write, and create beauty, and dress up, and be connected? Or make that costume? Or paint that picture, or lose weight, or feel great? Start your own business? Teach a class? Take time for yourself?
When your release from your head, from your body, to the page, it ignites something new in you? Right? And sharing it after became a new way of connecting, of listening, of owning yourself!
Super powerful!
And that is why I’m bringing back From the Body to the Page, not just a course, but a weekly place to come together and write… a place to write, to share, to get asked questions, to practice, to dive deep, to imagine! This will start in a few weeks…
First, I want to offer this mini workshop to you, next week, to help you start rebuilding, or start over, your journaling practice, a way to clear your head, release old shit, fly your freak flag, stand up, shout out, create a new daily self-care regime, find new words to create change, write a to-do list, whatever your desire for yourself is…
From the Body to the Page
Tuesday May 4th from 10-11:30 (PST)
on Zoom
First 10 people get the early bird discount of only $17.00, regular price is only $27!
Then from there I will open up a monthly group page with weekly writing sessions! How freaking excited am I to be able to offer this to you, creatives, dancers, artists. Because I love to read your words, to see you light up, illuminate your desires, and just feel so good to be alive…and i know how good it is to have a routing, a weekly place to come together, to practice, ask, share, even just a weekly hour of time for yourself!
So, I do hope you join me for the mini-workshop, Tuesday May 4th from 10-11:30! There is an early bird discount for the first 10 folks, but it is all super affordable, and I want to share these tools and bits of inspiration with you to guide you into a deeper connection and a new practice for yourself! Think of how this type of clarity, poetry, connection will enhance your art, your dance, your body, and your life!
Register here now and get your private links…
Hope to see you there,
~~~~~~~
I’ve got a mini workshop for you! and more…
Hello beauty!
So happy to reconnect with you today… it’s been a bit of a hell last week, with having to put my Gracie dog down, to be with that wise but heartbreaking decision, after 13 wonderful years. Many of you have gone through this but I wanted to share that with you… We all need each other to support and lift us up, right? Whether that be emotional, physical, or spiritual, could be personal or business-oriented, getting your creative spark on, or learning how to chill. whatever…
And we all need a way to release the feelings and words from inside, even if we don’t know how… I can help you with that. So you can feel clearer, more grounded and connected with your words and your thoughts and emotions.
One of the things that always pulls me through, helps me see clearer, gives cause for celebration, and releasing words from my brain, is to journal every day… those pages of thoughts let me get out of overwhelm, get that stuck negative energy out of my head, perhaps gets me clear on some new project or creative adventure, lists of to-do’s, gratitude practices, and more…
And it is one of the number one thing that helps my clients and students too, as I guide them into new ways of practice, create new habits, and get clarity for themselves and their desires…
Developing a new, or renewed daily habit, full of excitement and inspiration, instead of drudgery…
Heart and Hustle: with dancer and author, Rebecca Tichbon, Episode #116
Heart and Hustle: Visionary Healers, Movers, and Shakers,
with your host, Paulette Rees-Denis,
and with today’s guest dancer and author,
Rebecca Tichbon, from Australia
Episode #116
Today I am happy to bring you Beck, Rebecca Tichbon, from down under, western Australia! A dancer, an author, and a leader in women’s empowerment, she has such a big heart of passion and love, and brings her magic into connecting women! She is now walking her truth path, after leaving a “job” of teaching science at a college, and doing all the things that she loves, as she has created her life with her desires.
We hit upon the work “busy” and how that is used, or never to be used! She has a book that came out last year:
Using Essential Oils for Emotional Management: A Memoir Experience :Kindle Edition, click here
We talk about the loss of her youngest child, and going into anxiety, and knew she had to do major self-care work on herself. Taking time off from that job, she got into aromatherapy and became intrigued and now uses the oils with her clients to help them support themselves. She has a scientific side and a magical side and has many tools that she uses with all her work!
We also talk about imposter syndrome, leadership, and just being human as well as being able to show someone their possibilities!
Enjoy our conversation, and let us know what you get inspired to do or change or take action on!
More about Rebecca!
Rebecca Dyson Tichbon’s first career was as a Medical Scientist and then she fell into a health and science teaching career in higher education. Beck (as she prefers to be called) now runs a successful wellness business in Bunbury, Western Australia. She is certified in Education and Facilitation, Life Coaching, Aromatherapy and Belly Dance, and is an Amazon best-selling author. Beck has been through many trials and tragedies and she shares her story in her book. Beck is passionate about women’s wellbeing and finds fulfilment in supporting others on their own wellness journeys through her all of her work, drawing on her eclectic (but ultimately effective!) collection of knowledge and skills.
