My 2011 Writing Goal

So, last Monday, I told you what I learned from writing goals of the past and how I was going to use this knowledge to tweak my goals in the future. Right now, I wanted to share the writing goal I created for 2011 to address and fix the issues brought up in the other post.

You know how I know this year's writing goal is better than last year's? Because I have yet to be caught up with it for even one second! :-)

Ahem. Maybe I should just get to it then, hmm?

That's behind schedule...

Looking back on past writing goals and tweaking them for the future

I'm frequently asked how I work or how I get "so much done" (which I think is funny because I feel like I never get enough done) but I get the question enough that I feel like I should address it. A huge part of how I get anything done, especially in a writing world, is by setting goals. I think for anyone who sets yearly goals, sometimes the most useful part of that process is looking back at the end of the year and evaluating the goals you set and figuring out how to tweak t...

Odds and ends…

"Creativity to me is just like a… like a bird… like a friendly bird… that embraces all… ideas… and just like… shoots out of its eyes… all kinds of beauty!"

-Liz Lemon on 30 Rock trying to prove how creative she is

The quote above made me laugh so hard when we watched it recently (we are a season behind normal people) that I had to share it. Because whenever I intentionally try to be creative, it pretty much comes out just like that.Husband: "Why is Shrek doing a gang sign...

Jon Stewart's surprisingly touching take on the Arizona Shootings

Playing it totally straight and serious for once, Jon Stewart did an absolutely fantastic piece on the Arizona shootings on yesterday's Daily Show (which follows a small silly bit) that I think really deserves a highlight. If you have a chance to watch it, no matter which side your politics fall on, I think you will find it interesting and helpful:

Arizona Shootings

Photos of The Love of Three Oranges from Vernon Hills High School's production

Way back in the Fall of 2008, Vernon Hills High School had done a performance of The Love of Three Oranges which went so well they were asked to performance it in an Illinois Drama competition! One of the actors from that production was kind enough to email over some photos from their production this summer and I actually never saw the email until now because it got buried under the fold in my inbox (I HATE when that happens!).

But now that I've had a chance to look at them...

Writers & Publishers: How to Activate (or Deactivate) Lending on your eBooks on Amazon's Kindle

Amazon recently debuted the ability for readers to lend their Kindle books with friends. I did a detailed overview of the new program here. But I thought I'd also take this opportunity to do a "just the part we authors/publishers care about" post over here. Chances are, if you are an author or publisher with a book available for Amazon's Kindle, you really only have one question:

How do I turn lending on or off?Log into the Amazon Digital Text Platform (Amazon DTP). Click the...
