Books I read in 2010

In the spirit of the new year, I thought I'd give you a quick list of all the books I read in 2010. Some people do this monthly. Those people are more organized, what can I say?

I had the fortune of reading a ton of good books this year, mostly because I was laid up with bad hands for a few months there and couldn't do much else but it was nice. It's funny how many of these I read on holiday break, though, which was from Dec 18th to yesterday and our vacation last winter.

Get paid to Tweet: Paying Markets for your Super Short Flash Fiction on Twitter (NaNo Literary Magazines)

The November/December issue of Writer's Digest highlighted a wide variety of online markets for fiction and non-fiction writers both and, in a wee little sidebar, highlighted some exciting new paid markets for short fiction. I mean really short fiction. They'll pay you for a tweet, a story that falls under 140 characters, perfect to be sent out on Twitter.

Not only is this a great new emerging market for writers to get exposure, I love the challenge these compressed stories...

I have books for sale! You know, if you wanted to buy them or something…

I pretty much never do any self-promotion around here but since it's the holidays and people are spending money left and right, I thought it might be an appropriate time to remind you that I have books (both paper and eBook, fiction and non) for sale and I'd really appreciate if you were to pick up a copy for yourself or a friend (or, hell, for both). The Author in particular is priced at under $5 making it both an excellent stocking stuffer and an excellent way to hit the...

Yet another indication that there may be something wrong with me…

I have just come off this insanely busy week where I was maybe free and home for an hour total all week. I stayed up until 2:30 AM last night to get totally caught up so that when husband came home today I could stop work and hang out with him all night in a glorious celebration of doing nothing. I was so burnt out from this week, I was so read for a nice long break from work. Maybe I'd read a book all night like a word glutton or play The Sims.

But then, while husband was on ...

Disney, I have several questions about this holiday decoration

Disney, you know this thing? It's cool, I'll grant you and I love all the random characters on it but I have several questions.

Let's talk about this:

Pluto's House.

Forget the fact that Mickey's dog apparently doesn't live with him and has a house as large as any of the "people." I've come to peace with that part of Disney logic. The real burning question is why does Peg Leg Pete live in Pluto's attic?

And, for that matter, why is Pete poised to throw a boot at, one can only...

I'm meeting my writing goals but by binge writing, not writing every day. Is this bad?

NaNoWriMo has been over for exactly a week now and I wanted to show you guys something. I have had several people ask me why I keep tweaking my writing goals when "obviously I write a ton." Let me show you the problem. Visually.

The following is a graph of my word count for November's NaNoWriMo novel (x axis is the date, y axis is words written per day, forgot to label them). The goal of any writer is to write every day. Every single day. In fact, in many ways, that's the...
