Why do I write?

I was slogging through this terrible book on writing that I am forcing myself to finish even though it's God-awful and there was a chapter in which the author was talking about why she writes.

Of course, it got me to thinking: Why do I write?

After all, what's the point?

My family is always encouraging me to write because they see it as a Harry Potter paved road to riches. I have been around the publishing industry far too long to have any delusions. There is no money in writing. Choosing...

Hear the Muppets say your name!

Under the Holy Cow, Massive, Massive thrill department, I, one of the biggest Muppet fans on earth got to hear the Muppets say my name.

Ok, so I'm not special, just about anyone can hear the Muppets say their name by going to this site and inputting it. You get to watch some personalized Muppet mayhem and then pick a Muppet to clean it up and then watch some more Muppet goodness.

LOVE IT!!!!!

But when I saw this, my first thought was, OK, great for people with common names but no way on earth...

Dare I say I miss my passive aggressive Page-A-Day calendar?

So, last year, I bought myself the Cute Overload Page-A-Day calendar and got a free Page-A-Day calendar in my email as a thanks for purchasing. I selected For Women Who Do Too Much Page-A-Day Calendar which was possibly the worst page a day calendar ever conceived. You can read about my well documented hatred for this calendar here, here and here.

So, this year, I yet again picked up a Cute Overload calendar ($5 at Five Below!) because I like to use the discarded pages to leave my husband...

So in one of my Muppet YouTube videos I spelled Christmas wrong, flipping the positions of the "r" and the "i" in a pretty clear typo. This helpful young man (woman? badger? online, who can say?) was kind enough to alert me to this error with the following note:
"christmas" is spelled "c-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s"

you stupid douchecock….you spelled "Christmas" wrong in your headline for "The Christmas Toy"….have some respect for baby Jesus, you egocentric moron!!!

On being busy and giving the gift of editing (from The Whine Seller)

Normally my blog posts sort themselves nicely between my various blogs with very little overlap but this week I found myself with two posts that, frankly, could have fit either here or over at The Whine Seller so I posted them at The Whine Seller in the end because I have been neglecting that audience a little because of NaNoWriMo but I wanted to direct your attention to those posts because I think they are of interest to both readerships.

I have a little cardboard sign that says this which has been on my desk all through high school, college and even through my 9 to 5 office jobs. I found it recently and went to put it up my wall because, frankly, its still appropriate to my life and always will be.

So I'm going about my business yesterday, stressed out of my mind and that sign, literally attacked me. It fell off the wall exactly as I passed it and stabbed its little cardboard corner into my eye.
