Servant

1 Corinthians 9:19

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto
all, that I might gain the more.

We are all free to live our lives. We are free to serve God or not. We can
choose to follow the teachings of Christ or live a life of sin. We are free to do as we please. However, would it really be bad to serve our common man? I’m not talking about cleaning their homes, cooking their food, or doing their every bid. I am simply talking about being willing to help them to Christ. Be a servant that leads them to the altar. Be the one who is humble enough to say that I was once a sinner just like they are. Being a servant does not just mean being a maid or a butler. You can serve your brothers and
sisters by being a person willing to pray for the sinner, pray for the
family that is sick, or pray for the family that is struggling to stay
together. You can serve the sinner by willing to pray that God brings them into the fold, by telling the truth of heaven and hell, and that Jesus Christ died for their sins so that they may have eternal life. A Christian is not a ruler of the world. We are the servants that are meant to lead the sinner to Christ.

Can’t Keep The Story Straight

Proverbs 18:7

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

Ever had anyone tell you that something was in the Bible, then find out it wasn’t in there? Ever had someone tell you that they have read the Bible from cover to cover, know it by heart, but don’t know where something is? They will talk and talk until you realize they know nothing. Don’t be one of those people. Don’t be someone who talks about something you know nothing about. It does not matter how convincing you can be, one day you will mess up and show you know little. Instead of just talking about it, study it. Read the Bible so that when you speak you actually know what you are talking about. Don’t be foolish and end up being caught in a lie.

Give What You Can Give

Mark 12:42-44

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Some will give so much and say look what I have given to God. Others will scrape what they can together and give it knowing that it is all they can give. Because of the other group they will hang thier head in shame and be embarrassed for giving so little. However, who have more? Well Jesus told you who did. The one who gave all they could, even if it was a small amount gave the most. So when you give all that you can, know that God smiles on you because you are giving all you can. Don’t hang your head in shame, know that Jesus said you gave more. Know that God loves the humble and does not look in favor on a prideful heart.

Wisdom

Proverbs 8:11

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

You can have knowledge and know nothing because knowlege without wisdom is worthless. You can have money, be unwise, and lose it all. However, if you have wisdom, you have more than gold and if you have wisdom in the lord, you have something that is priceless. No amount of gold, silver, or even diamonds can compare. How you obtain wisdom in the lord is simple. All you have to do is study and pray for God to guide you in your life, be humble to admit when you are wrong, and learn that you have to let God take full control.

Love

1 John 4:8

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

If you have no love in your heart then you know nothing of God. If you look at the sinner and hate them, then you need to pray. You must be at a point that you hate the sin they are in, but never hate the soul of the sinner. They are lost and undone just as you was at one point. Now if you set in a church and look at someone else proclaiming christ and you have no love for them, well you need to find God. Stop letting hate be in your vocabulary. Stop letting strife have a place in your heart. Learn to love like God did and he gave his son to die for your sins.

Content

1 Timothy 6:6-7

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out

In life you will meet people that as long as they have the newest thing in style, they are happy. They may have the newest vehicle, the newest cell phone, or the newest fashion. They find content in these things. They only look at the great gain the world has to offer. However, as a Christian, we have something to be content in and that is the fact we have a savour, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. We can take that with us to the grave. We can take that with us into heaven. Christians should not be seeking content in the things of this world, they should be seeking it in Jesus. As for the things of this world, I have never seen a trailer being pulled behind a funeral procession, no matter how much the person in the hearse owned.

The Thief In The Night

Matthew 24:43-44

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Everybody dreams of growing old. Most say that is when they will be able to go to church. They say they will be retired and have nothing more to do. Sounds like the best times to serve God, right? What if you don’t make it to your old age? What if you plan on living in sin while young and then serving God when you are older and more mature, but while living in sin your life ends? It’s a morbid thought but it is one that you have to have. You don’t know when Jesus is going to make the call that your time is up. Just like you don’t know when a thief is going to break in until it happens. Your days are numbered and one day your life will end. I pray that when that time comes you are prepared to meet Jesus. I pray that no matter if you are 19 or 99 that you know when the son of man appears you are ready.

Jealous

Exodus 34:14

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

This is pretty simple, God does not want only half of your attention, he wants it all. God does not want you to only serve him on Sundays, God wants you to serve him 24/7. God is jealous when we give other things the attention we should be giving him. He is jealous whenever we put things before him. I for one do not want God, who can destroy nations, to be jealous of something I have placed before him. Put God first in your life, so that he never has to be jealous.

Get Out Of The Driver’s Seat

Romans 13:1

1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Today while going on a family trip, my wife kept telling me how to drive. I wanted to tell her she could drive her way and I will drive my way. Then it occurred to me that this is how some Christians are with God. They want him to set in the passenger seat and stay quiet until the need him. What if they stopped trying to be in control and let God take the steering wheel? Life would be so much easier. All Christians have to do is just give up control and let God be the driver. You don’t have to worry about making the wrong choices if God is directing your path. I encourage each Christian to get out of the driver seat and let God drive.

Do You Believe?

John 3:11-12

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

People can watch a miracle take place then turn around and try and deny it. They will try and find some scientific evidence behind it. They could watch the blind see, a crippled walk, and the dead raised and still say that science can explain it. They simply do not believe that miracles happen. If you proclaim Christ, you better believe. If you say you serve God you better know that miracles happen everyday. Stop denying the things that happen here on earth. If you don’t believe miracles can happen, how do you believe the miracle of Christ rising from the grave. How can you believe that his sacrifice is enough for your salvation?
