Catching Up!
Sorry I have been absent around here. All the facets of my life have been full over the past few months.
Duty: a novel of Rhynan's release and blog tour took more out of me than I expected. As the tour winds down, I am beginning to prepare for Wren (A Romany Epistles Novel)'s release and the tasks that need to complete before then.
On the writing side of things, I am up to my ears (when I can find the time) in two short stories and a sequel to Duty. What about Diaspora? As much as I want to tackle Ruhan and Myah's story next, inspiration is leading toward Lord Dentin's story and the next novel of Rhynan. I have not abandoned my science fiction leanings forever. I shall return to them. :)
Editing has been a bit stalled. The King of Anavrea is with a few beta readers. I need to check in on them as see when they will be done with it. The Reward has gone through the first round of edits. I am going to start looking for beta readers soon. Then it will be off to the editor-and-chief, my hubby before final polishing.
Believe it or not, I am trying to blog more. I am trying to get back on the Sweet Saturday Sample schedule on a regular basis. Please let me know if there are more topics you would like me to blog about. I am open to suggestions. :)

#SweetSat - Duty Sequel
My thoughts are buried deep the sequel to Duty: a novel of Rhynan. I thought I would pause for a moment to share a bit of it with you as part of my #SweetSat sample this week. Please keep in mind that this is a rough draft. :) For more Sweet Saturday Samples visit http://sweetsatsample.wordpress.com/.
~~~~~Lord Dentin
Spring breathed hope into the day. It should have been hard to remain apprehensive when young green leaves bobbed in the breeze over my head. The bright colors of young life kept burst forth from beneath the melting snow. As typical in the northern regions of Rhynan, the heartiest of the plant life sprang forth when winter barely released its hold on the ground, a wonder that never ceased to amaze me.Still, despite it being my favorite time of year, turmoil churned in my gut.
Sir Rathenridge’s vargar rising above the half-clothed tree tops might have added to my ill ease. Relations between him and me were tenuous at best. Something about the man drove me to outbursts of anger beyond any I allowed myself since my father’s death. Aiden’s flippant attitude, theatrics, and unwillingness to remain serious in times of stress raked at my nerves.
Besides he never missed an opportunity to share his acerbic opinion of me. The fact I intended to drop in on his residence unannounced would strain our already unsettled peace. However, I rarely felt anxiety over such things when dealing with others. It was part of my job to manage displeased nobles and gentry.
No, my unease had everything to do with my mission. Tomas Dyrease, Earl of Kyrenton, would not love my appearing when I delivered my news.
“Who goes there?” The cry of the gate master from the top of the town’s main gate cut through my thoughts.
“Simon Cordale, Earl of Dentin, commander of the royal guards, general of the garrison, and securer of the realm,” my captain of the guard replied.
My titles instigated the usual frantic activity in the gatehouse. Within moments the portcullis began to rise and the drawbridge lowered over the moat. Fed by the river flowing not so far away, the muddied waters beneath our horses’ hooves rushed and churned. A few of the horses balked at the sound, but their riders kept them in hand as we crossed into the shelter of the thick curtain wall surrounding the vargar and town of Owenchance.
Update and Progress Report!
I am checking in on my progress toward my annual goals for 2013.
Weekly Goals:
I am not really managing to grab at least four hours of writing/editing time a week, but I am working on improving that beginning this week. The characters from Diaspora are in my head and campaigning for me to write their story. Look for more writing progress statuses on Rachel Rossano Rambles Facebook page soon.I haven't really managed to blog on here two times a week but I am trying to keep up with Sweet Saturday Samples. (Not very well the past two weeks, though.)
Annual Goals:
Publish Wren - Last check (sending a new email later this week) the release is tentatively set for August 2013. There is tons to do before then and I am still recovering from the recent release. Which brings us to the next point...Publish Duty - Done! Available in ebook (Smashwords, Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Apple is coming soon), paperback, large-print paperback, and hardcover. Reviews are welcome!The King of Anavrea (The Theodoric Saga Book Two) - This one is in the beta readers' hands. I recieved feedback from two of them, but I am waiting on the rest before I sit down to tackle the revisions. Then it will be off to the editor and chief (my husband). There is a high risk of a revision list from him. We shall see.The Reward (The Theodoric Saga Book Three) - This one flew through editing. There was little I needed to change, except the heroine's hair color. I kept envisioning her as blond and was pulled out of the story when I came across references to her dark hair. Oops. Next stage is beta readers.Finish writing Isbet’s Disgrace - I haven't touched it in a while. I need to pick it back up.Finish writing The Sword of Korma Monroe, a short story addendum to Duty - Um, yeah, I still plan on finishing this story, but Lord Dentin is getting his own book, so the urgency isn't as great.World build, plot, and begin writing Diaspora - Working on this one, but it isn't coming easily. Don't worry. I don't give up easily. ;)NEW ITEM - Sequel to Duty! 2,147 words in and it is flying. We shall see what Lord Dentin's story has in store for us. :)
