Review, Visa to Paradise, Cécile Rischmann

Visa to Paradise by Cécile Rischmann. A Review

Dr Beatrix D’Souza, an Indian Politician, is a Professor in English with a PhD in Australian Literature.

We are told - never judge a book by its cover. In this case, the cover is enticing. It is the title that is misleading. Paradise here is not so much a place as a state of mind. There are lost souls praying for redemption, Angels bringing healing. There is also a serpent who tempts an archangel. In the end, Paradise is regained and alls well that ends well.

This is my interpretation of the plot confusing the biblical version of the Garden of Eden with Milton’s PARADISE LOST. This novel is a romance where Paradise could be found in drugs, in prayers but mostly in human love. The author’s strength lies in her ability to make her characters credible. She also manages to bring together the multiple plots.
In the end, each reader takes away from the novel what personal experience brings to it. So spend a happy few hours in a Paradise of your own. Romance is the best escape from frightening headlines.

Visa to Paradise

A tempestuous Indian beauty. A gorgeous American who wants to stay celibate. Sparks fly when they meet in the confines of a psycho-spiritual centre. But is it meant to be?

When Annette’s parents promise her a holiday in an exotic paradise, Annette has visions of a beautiful resort cocooned in the deep green forests of Kerala, South India, with all the trimmings of luxury. She can’t wait to bask on a sunlit beach with tequila in hand, and a joint between her lips. She generously invites her three close friends to join her.

What Annette does not know, however, is that this time her parents have other plans for her. Tired of seeing Annette languishing in bad company, thrilling in undesirable activities, partying until the wee hours of dawn, they decide to do something about it.

By the time Annette realizes just where she is heading, the gates of Body, Mind N Soul (BMS), a psycho-spiritual centre, close firmly around her. Guarded by fierce security guards who do not speak or understand English, Annette and her friends have no way of escaping a gruelling week of military regimen.

Review, One Night with You, Cécile Rischmann

Review by Natasha Fernandes

‘One Night with You’ is just 49 pages but I’ve never read this small a story that has so many emotions, twists, and turns. The storyline encapsulates generic human behaviors like insecurity, sacrifice, jealousy, envy, lust, betrayal and love. What is really exciting is that disaster comes at an unexpected moment in the story, but then you start to realize that it should have been that way all along. The characters are beautifully depicted along with their sentiments. Was definitely a good read. The author keeps you thrilled, captivated and engrossed. One Night with You

Review, Adventures of Tory Mason, Cécile Rischmann

★★★★★
Graceful writing. Set in the 70s, this story to almost two generations the simplicity of a few decades ago. And also how some of the most simple things in life leads to a lot of happiness. The author beautifully walks us through the mind of a little girl on her birthday. The happiness and excitement shown by the little heroin are very believable. What is really admirable is the clever touch delivered at the end which will teach young boys and girls to understand unnecessary attractions which are very relatable to today's scenario. And let's not forget the goodness of the preacher. There's much one can learn from this story. My best wishes to author Cecile Rischmann and wishing much success in the years to come

I enjoyed reading this short story as it brought back memories growing up in Madras as a child, the simple pleasures and the innocent fun. The author Ceci has brought out the child in all of us as we read the story.. which makes you smile, tugs at your heart and makes you reminisce about the good old days. The story of this carefree child Tory is so well portrayed the joys of being a child, the thrill of special days like Birthdays, and in a child’s life, she feels like a princess. It’s good to be reminded of our childhood and this short story brings out one of the happiest days in a child’s life The Birthday. Show less

Lovely read. The author vividly captures a day in the life of Tory in Madras. The simple joys of celebrating one's birthday in school and the gifts you receive from loved ones. There is a french encounter in the story. It ends on a thoughtful note.

This is a simple, soulful story that takes you back to the 80s. I had multiple flashbacks while reading ‘Wake-up! It’s my Birthday’. Cecile has so beautifully captured a world that existed decades ago. I too, remember a new dress was bought by my parents for me only during festivals and on birthdays and boy how I treasured these dresses. A birthday is an important and momentous occasion not to be understated. Surprisingly, Tory’s hysteria when she experienced her first kiss, brought back memories of mine too. Absolutely nostalgic

Simple, innocent and purely entertaining! This short story takes me back to simpler times when waking up to your birthday was the best thing in the world - wearing what we called "color dress" to school, distributing sweets oh so proudly with your best friend tagging along, and almost the whole school admiring you through the day. Little Tory has such a spunky attitude and I love how daringly bold yet unknowingly innocent she is. The author beautifully and vividly captures descriptions of the older days and its true to the saying "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". I love the aspect of innocent puppy love intertwined in this short story. Beautiful and entertaining read to kick start my Saturday morning....

Adventures of Tory Mason

Tory Mason is an energetic ten-year-old who finds happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She draws us into her childhood and allows us a moment of nostalgia as we participate in her activities. We cannot help but love this child who takes us back in time to when we were kids, making us wish we'd remained in that innocent cocoon.

One Night with You, Cécile Rischmann

One Night with You by Cécile Rischmann Hailing from a little village in Tuscany, 18-year-old Carina Maraschi hasn’t a clue as to how to court a man, so she sings to him like how she’d sing to her cows as she milked them.

Nation-wide romance winning author who has captivated audiences with Jilted, The French Encounter and Somewhere over the Rainbow, strikes again with a romantic thriller, One Night with You, that keeps you on the edge of your seat as her characters love, battle, and betray.

The challenge of the chase

I’m not going to pretend to know all about the challenges of life. I do know however, what it takes to be persevering in one’s goal despite the odds. It is on that subject that I wish to elaborate. Why? Because in my opinion, being persevering in whatever you do brings results.

In order to be persevering, you must first examine your goal. Hold it up so you can see it for what it is. Do you have what it takes to go after that goal? Remember, it is not going to land on your lap. You have to be ready to do what is necessary so that you arrive in that spot. Having a free and simple child-like attitude helps. Having sound belief in your God will speed up your action because with God at your side you get inner confidence to stay in and fight while everyone is dropping their hats and running. And then comes the most important ingredient… Faith in yourself.

Without faith in yourself you can’t get anywhere. Oh yes, you can get on with life, doing an odd job here and there, crawling through, afraid of your own shadow. But if you want BIG results you must think and plan BIG. It doesn’t matter if it sounds silly to you. It is much better than thinking in the negative.

Converse in a childlike way with your Creator… tell Him that you want to be different. You want to be free from your fears. You want to go places and do things. You want to be someone.

And believe me, when you go in with your whole heart and speak in a frank and easy way, you release the kind of energy you require to meet your situation. You go about your project in a way that makes even ordinary things seem extraordinary. You develop inner strength, and you behave in a way that leads you to reach your goal.

I’d like to conclude with Shiv Khera’s master statement: Winners don’t do different things…they do things differently.
