I enjoyed reading this short story as it brought back memories growing up in Madras as a child, the simple pleasures and the innocent fun. The author Ceci has brought out the child in all of us as we read the story.. which makes you smile, tugs at your heart and makes you reminisce about the good old days. The story of this carefree child Tory is so well portrayed the joys of being a child, the thrill of special days like Birthdays, and in a child’s life, she feels like a princess. It’s good to be reminded of our childhood and this short story brings out one of the happiest days in a child’s life The Birthday. Show less

Lovely read. The author vividly captures a day in the life of Tory in Madras. The simple joys of celebrating one's birthday in school and the gifts you receive from loved ones. There is a french encounter in the story. It ends on a thoughtful note.
