A Purpose Driven Wife and Entrepreneur

I had the wonderful opportunity to be featured on a podcast, I LOVE to listen to about Kingdom Entrepreneurs. The Founder Shae Bynes was actually interviewed in Part 1 & 2 of Sex with your spouse is worship to God. I am VERY passionate about God, Moms, Wives, entrepreneurs and everyone in between, walking out their purpose and thriving in every area of their life. Experiencing the abundant living God intended.

I realized that during the worst time in my life, when my husband spoke those words to me, God wants me to be successful more than I did, but He has a way that was already planned out for me to walk (Psalm 139:16). This ministry podcast, (I like to it that) has confirmed so many things in me, that God was doing to help me along the way. I want to do the same for other people.

I LOVE to share my testimony because it not only give God the glory but I know other people who struggle with the same thing, when it comes to marriage and business, there always one that takes a backseat and I’m here to tell you, doing it God’s way…You will THRIVE being in business and in marriage.

Start having the best career of your life, while being a Stay at home mom

A few years ago, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to do, or even start my dream career, at the time, I stayed home to my beautiful twins. A few people felt like I needed to be home and that is all I needed to concentrate on. Fast forward to now, I have 3 children and having the time of my life working my dream business while staying home.

Best Career

How did I start doing my dream job? It took A LOT of failing on my face, getting back up and trying again. At the time, I didn’t have a passion for business like I do now, I just wanted to start a business to make money and I learned REAL QUICK that having this mindset will not get me the fulfillment, the peace, Joy and of course money flow, I was looking for. I would probably get 2 out of the 4 but I wanted it ALL. I had to learn to have money in its proper place

fresh start

These beautiful yellow roses, from Proflowers, are a wonderful reminder to me every. single. day for me to continue to nourish the dream God has given me and to not let it die.It is placed in the middle of our dinner table, the central area of our home. If you are passionate and have a dream to make a difference in this world, even while you’re at home with your beautiful children, here’s how to get started in having the best career of your life:

#1- Don’t quit your passion, or finding out what your passion is…

I stated that a few years ago, I didn’t have an idea on what I wanted to do, I just wanted to make money. I tried a lot of different things until I focused more on the plan God had for me. What I’m doing now is blogging, writing books and speaking. I LOVE it! It wasn’t an over night thing and I didn’t have an idea on what I wanted to do.

It took a lot of falling on my face and trying again and again. You find out a lot about yourself when you don’t quit and you keep pressing forward. This reminds me of the scripture, Proverbs 24:16a“For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again…”  Don’t quit!

#2- Write down your dreams…

I can’t express to you in words how important it is to write down your dreams. Not quitting, writing it down is part of  nourishing your dream. In addition to writing it down, keep it in front of you, as a reminder everyday. Just like a plant needs to be watered, adding plant food makes the plants thrive beautifully! Habakkuk 2:2a“Then the Lord answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, that, the one who reads it may run.”

#3- Surround yourself with supportive people…

Whether that’s friends, family, mentors, etc. Surrounding yourself with positive, like-minded people will help fuel the passion, that’s within, helps to keep you moving forward, it also, keeps you encouraged. Just like a plant needs sunlight for it to grow and flourish, having positive people around you is needed for your growth in pursuing your dream career.

In Conclusion, Failure is not a bad thing. I’ve learned failure is a blessing. In the failure you may find your passionate, million dollar idea. It’s probably the best thing that has ever happen to me. This scripture says it better: Romans 5:3-4– “And not only this, but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation]. I’ve grown as a person, in character, in wisdom and so much more. You can to!

Are you watering your dreams!

disclaimer: I was compensated. Everything I’ve written is my honest, 100% opinion

My goals for 2016

I had my goals, written down for 2016 for sometime now. I wanted to take the time to mediate and reflect on what God wanted me to do in this year. I was not in a rush to post and promote the fact that I had goals, which is why I’m writing this post after the New Year’s.

Showing that I have goals won’t do any good. Being able to do them, changing into a better person, learning from my mistakes will cause me to have a successful year. I believe 2015 was the best year of my life. I say that because I truly was able to write down goals, not based on what is next, but based on what God is doing in my life. This was actually a first for me in my life, adjusting my goals to my marriage, Faith, Family, Health and Business. I can proudly say I was successful in every area of my life.

This year, I really prayed about a word that would not only sustain me but it will represent what God will do in my life. I came across the word “Thrive“ and it hit me hard. I wanted to get the full meaning of the word, so I looked it up in Merriam Webster dictionary, It means,  “To progress toward or realize a goal despise and/or because of circumstances.” As soon as I read this definition, 2 scriptures came to mind.

Isaiah 58:11 (ESV)

“The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought and strengthen your bones. You shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water, whose waters DO NOT Fail.”

Proverbs 13:19a (ESV)- “A dream fulfilled is sweet to the soul.

My Goals for 2016-

#1- God:

– A Closer walk with God (Committing to building a relationship)

How are you doing this:

-I’ve signed on to a Bible College being offered at my church and every Tuesday night, we sit and learn about a book of the bible. I’ve started this last year and it has blessed my socks off. You can read more about it here.

-Commit to doing a devotional everyday.

#2- Me, Myself and I:

– Take time for self-care and health (Commit to running)

How are you doing this:

– Made doctor, dental and eye appointments. These are things I’ve needed to stop putting off and really start taking care of myself.

– I’ve started making a list of healthy recipes to try. After the holidays of eating unhealthy foods. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Trim Healthy Mama cookbook, which I received and will be doing a book review on it soon.

#3- Marriage:

– Commit to fighting for my marriage. (No matter what!)

How are you doing this:

– I’m holding on to what scripture says about wives in 1 peter 3:1-2 (AMP) “In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate, not as inferior, but out of respect for the responsibilities entrusted to husbands and their accountability to God, and so partnering with them] so that even if some do not obey the word [of God], they may be won over [to Christ] without discussion but by the godly lives of their wives, when they see your modest and respectful behavior [together with your devotion and appreciation—love your husband, encourage him, and enjoy him as a blessing from God].

– Reading books on marriage.

– Allowing God to be God in my marriage. Also, recognizing that I don’t know all the answers, I need to fix my attitude and stop trying to fix everything. I’ve notice that what played in the hurt of my marriage is that I need to have a better attitude, my heart was not right. In me serving my husband and children, I believe God is doing a work in my heart.

The scripture says in Proverbs 16:2 (AMP) “All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions], But the Lord weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth].

#4- My Children:

– Commit to teaching my children the word of God more.

How are you doing this:

I had a children’s devotional from my church for a few months and I picked up one day and looked at some of the devotionals and like how its pretty fun, practical and you learn about God at the same time in a fun way. I did a review on the devotional called: Daily Bread for kids

So far I’ve been doing it for about 2 weeks now and the kids look forward to it and LOVE it. My prayer is that they don’t live the Christian life, like a routine but in a passionate relationship with Christ, to live life in an adventure that God has planned out for them (Psalm 139:16).

#5- Church and Business

Commit to staying faithful.

How are you doing this

Committing to staying faithful means for me to continue doing what God has called me to do, in church and business. Step out when He tells me to and commit to walking it out, No MATTER WHAT!!

I felt God leading me to starting a bible study for entrepreneurs and using my book as the curriculum. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do. Which will be starting January 14th and continue once a month, until God says otherwise. I combined church and business because both are the same for me in what God is calling me to do. Maybe in another season it will be different, in this season its the same for now.

Also, my desire is to continue speaking in different places and getting opportunities to share my testimony. My dream is to speak at conferences, retreats and workshops. I LOVE sharing Jesus Christ and one day I would LOVE to travel the world, speaking at different places.

In conclusion:

You may have noticed that I used the word, “commit” a few times in this post…Well, for me the word commit, means to “stay the course, no matter what“. I read the verse: Proverbs 16:3 (AMP)- “Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], and your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance]. The phase that helped me was: “…Your plans will succeed, if you respond to His will and guidance.”  This scripture help me realize that God’s word, works and in order for me to be successful in every area of my life, I need to “Commit my works to the Lord” No matter what it looks like, how hard it maybe, I can’t do it without God, I need Him. My plan is to be successful in 2016, I need God.

What are your plans for 2016?

Celebrating the failures and successes of 2015

When I do a self check and look back at not only my successes, in what I did well, but I like to look at my growth as a person, in my marriage, my business, my family, etc. and really learn from my mistakes. I believe the good and the bad are both beneficial in my walk as a better person. I like the definition of *celebration, It means to give a public acknowledgement, (a significant event or day). I LOVE this because, this is an opportunity for me to look back and see God in not only my mistakes, failures but also my successes.

Seeing God in both my failures and successes! #adrivenwife

Failures:

Not being able to let go of my Silk Spa Creations Business
Letting go of “Friends” that were holding me back
Not staying consistent with my running

-Failures in “Not letting go of my Silk Spa Creations Business” This was really hard for me as I stated in blog post, I wrote on the update of my Silk Spa Creations business. I felt God was telling me to pause the business and He’ll let me know when to come back, I didn’t do that at first. I felt like I was losing a part of myself, because this was a business that I birth, nurtured and watch grow and letting it go was the hard part for me, but I was walking into a whole new season, God was taking me to and I was willing to walk in that, which helped me let go of this business.

-Letting go of “friends” that were holding me back. This was another hard lesson. This particular person, I felt, helped me get over some things (at one point), I was dealing with and I was at the same time helping and it was all give, give and give and nothing in return. This was a hard lesson but another time God really walk me through, which He took care of and as I let Him, God really began to show me this person’s true colors.

-Not staying consistent with my running. My goal in running was to run 3 miles in 18 minutes, my closest running time was 24 minutes I believe and I have TOTALLY stopped running these past couple of months and slowed down a lot. I need to get back hopefully next year and do better.

Success:

I was able to finish my book
Share my testimony as speaking events
Getting closer to God and in the Word
I also started a podcast

-I feel very proud of myself for finishing this book. I was able to write down my goal of finishing this book and God walk me through once again and show me, He’s always there. He’s their blessing me. Thank you Lord!

Sharing my testimony is what makes me feel alive and fulfilled. God blesses me EVERY TIME. When you press the link, in the beginning of this sentence you can see the testimonies of those who’ve heard me speak and was blessed by it. All Glory goes to God.

-This year I’ve started a 3 year course in Bible College to get my focused on the word, gain more understanding and get closer to God which is always my goal. I want to get closer to God because life likes to throw curve balls and I want to be able to catch them and throw them back! Being able to conquer books of the bible I thought were difficult are now one of my favorites to gain motivation and encouragement from.

-I’ve started a podcast, I’m VERY proud of. I was able to be consistent with it and I’m looking forward to new things with the podcast in 2016 to bless listeners.

*Definition of Celebration

Have you made any mistakes you can learn from in 2015 and things you can celebrate as well?

The #1 key to start having a successful marriage in 2016

My prayer and goals has always been to improve myself in different areas of my life. Having a successful marriage is one of my top goals for 2016. I’ve learned to not only look at myself and evaluate what I know I need to work on and the things God has shown me, but the #1 key to having a successful marriage is to:

Allow God to be God. #adrivenwife

… “Trista… What does that mean?” I’m glad you asked, let me share with you, what I’ve learned…

I realized through a lot of trial and error, that my way DOES NOT WORK. Even trying to do things my way a little bit, still doesn’t work. I had to come to a place where I either believe God’s word and believe it can do more than I can or I can just keep doing things my way and keep getting the same results, You know, they have a word for that right… Insanity.

Knowing God to be Who He says He is in other areas of my life, such as, keeping His promises, He’s Faithful (Psalm 86:15-NIV). He takes care of me, He’s a Provider (Matthew 6:25-31-NIV) and a Protector (Deu. 31:6-NIV). I know Him to be these things in my life. So, I have to ask myself why can’t I trust Him when He says in His word to do things like submit (1 Peter 3:1-3-NIV), To be quick to listen and slow to speak (James 1:19-NIV) and be a living example of a Proverbs 31 woman to my daughter (Read: Proverbs 31:10-31-NIV).

What does a successful marriage look like? For me, I turn to the word of God, where it says: Ecclesiastes 4:12- “By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round-up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.” In a marriage where God is allowed to be God.

Scripture reference:

(Biblegateway.com)

Psalm 86:15- “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”

Matthew 6:25-31– ““Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes, Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ”

Deuteronomy 31:6- “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

1 Peter 3:1-3– “Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.”

James 1:19- ” My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…”

What is your idea of a successful marriage?

5 ways to keep your new year resolutions in 2016

I LOVE to make goals. So instead of me make new year resolutions, I just call them goals. I’ve discovered that writing down your goals, dreams, visions, etc. Keeps you motivated when times get tough. Starting the year off, by giving yourself the opportunity to improve yourself, marriage, finances, health, business, etc. Looking back at some of the lessons you may have learned and looking at how you’ve grown or made some mistakes. If there’s been more mistakes, these are moments of blessings to learn from them, and grow as a person even more. This year has been an AMAZING YEAR! I’ve written my book, started a podcast, began speaking and really discovered more of myself this past year. It has been so wonderful and freeing.

goals16

I was able to get every single thing I wrote down for my goals in 2015 and knock them out the park, by the grace of God. I want to show you how you can do it to:

1- Start small

-Take baby steps

You don’t need to make these HUGE goals, for example, I want to lose weight, then you stop eating fat, carbs and start making smoothies. These steps are good but start with instead of eating 1,000 grams of carbs start by eating only 800 grams. Starting small to losing weight, may take some time, but it will bring lasting results when you take small, baby steps.

2- Be Specific

-Visualize your dream life

Ok, so you want to be “successful” in your business, what does that look like for you…Write that down, be SUPER specific. Like for me, I would like to travel. I would like to travel and take a vacation one day with just Hubby and I to Fiji. When I get there I would like to have a cute bathing suit on and have about 10 pounds, with some muscles. The cost of this trip to go for 7 nights, with flight and hotel, including resort and spa is about $3,000. My last point… be very specific and do research.

3- Break down your goals

-Do something different daily

With HUGE goals like taking a trip to Fiji for 7 days, you won’t be able to plan that in 1 day. It takes time. Especially with 3 children and 1 of them being a toddler its not that easy, so take it step by step, break down the goals. Start by getting the price for the trip. What would you like to do at this resort and spa adventure in Fiji? How much will it cost? What airport will you fly from? When would you like this trip to happen? For me, I imagine, my husband and I walking around, sitting out in the patio with our drinks, talking so much to each other, exploring the island and meeting other couples on the island and getting to know the people. There’s a lot to plan for something as big as a trip to an exotic island, so take slow and break down the steps, until you can reach one step at a time.

4-Track your progress

-knowing when to shift

You can track your progress daily, weekly or monthly, so you know which areas to shift or stay the same. This is a process that takes time to see what works for you. Going through the process is part of the victory as well. Don’t give up!

5- Reward yourself

-You are motivated the most when you can see the finish line. I’ve started running the beginning of this year. Running 3 miles in 18 minutes has been my goal and I’m still pushing toward it. I noticed that for me the closer I get to my 3 miles, I suddenly start to get a boost of energy to reach the 3rd mile. I want to be able to stay consistent in the running to be able to reach my goal and in the end reward myself for the hard work I’ve put in.

How are you going to keep your goals in 2016?

P053: The road revealed by God in 2016

Purpose Driven Wife Podcast

This is the LAST Monday of the month and year. I pray that A Purpose Driven Wife Podcast was a blessing to you and your family, because it has been for mine. I pray that in the coming year of 2016, that it will continue to do that. I started this podcast out of a need, a little nudge from God and it has continued to do so much for me, my family and those tuning in every Monday. It has blessed me so much and I pray it does that even more in 2016. I have so many ideas and plans for this podcast and I pray God strengthens for the road ahead.

Speaking of the “Road ahead.” The title of this episode is called: The road revealed by God in 2016. This was inspired by the scripture Psalm 119:1-8 (MSG), you can read and meditate during your quiet time for the coming year of 2016, as you continue to seek God’s face for what is coming next for you and your business, I encourage you to read the whole chapter, because it’s so good, I just did verses 1-8.

Road revealed by Godin 2016

I really want to encourage you to walk the path that God has for you, not what is expected in the world, or the business industry. What God has for you is so much Success, Joy, peace and so much more. He talks about the abundant life, and I love what the amplified version says, Its “to the full, till it overflows.” This is exactly what I want to have in my life and I pray the same for you as well. This is what I want for my life, business, marriage and everything in between, but doing what I want, when I want to is not going to get me there. Following God’s plan, doing things His way is how I get it. I don’t want to toil, get stressed, frustrated in the process of doing anything God has called me to do. Not saying there isn’t going to be any, (Because we have an enemy that is not happy when we walk the path God has called us) but my point is that It will take work but the stress of it is not necessary.

So with this scripture, it talks about the heart behind doing what God has called you to do, following the path and walking it. It may be lonely, there may be obstacles, but God is faithful and He will see you through. The unnamed author of this psalm was an Israelite who was passionately devoted to aligning his life with God’s word. This is my prayer for you in the coming year that you align your life, marriage, business and everything in between with the word of God. This is a wonderful ending to 2015, I pray that you had a wonderful Christmas and a Fun and Festive Happy New Year! Enjoy and Look forward to what I will have for A Purpose Driven Wife Podcast in 2016. Be Blessed!

Psalm 119:1-8 (MSG)-

“You’re blessed when you stay on course,

walking steadily on the road revealed by God.

You’re blessed when you follow his directions,

doing your best to find him.

That’s right—you don’t go off on your own;

you walk straight along the road he set.

You, God, prescribed the right way to live;

now you expect us to live it.

Oh, that my steps might be steady,

keeping to the course you set;

Then I’d never have any regrets

in comparing my life with your counsel.

I thank you for speaking straight from your heart;

I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.

I’m going to do what you tell me to do;

don’t ever walk off and leave me.”
