More Channels!
Crossposted to freeeaglestudios.com
Hi everyone,
It’s a brand new year, so it’s time to announce that we will be expanding our efforts on Youtube and elsewhere both as an extension of what we are already doing and as a way to deal with the continuing troubles of COVID-19. The two channels will be named Free Eagle Studios, LLC and Eric Mrozek, but they’ll focus on different aspects of our work.
Our company channel will primarily focus on our services, writing diaries, and Youtube ads for our upc...

WandaVision Is Fun… If You Don’t Think About It Too Much.

I liked it, but then I had to think about it.
WARNING: This article contains full spoilers for the show.
With so little new mainstream entertainment out there at the moment (Thanks for nothing, COVID!), most of us have been looking for something to feed that need for escapism. Luckily, Disney+ has a few cards to play in the form of shows from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first of 2021 is WandaVision, and it’s pretty good.
Kind of. I guess.
Allow me to explain.
On One Hand…
I really felt ba...

I’m Not Sure Why I Watched Sonic The Hedgehog.

Stories shouldn’t be made unless there’s genuine inspiration to do so.
I think it’s safe to say that video game movies have had a hard time. Ever since the release of 1993’s Super Mario Bros., movie studios have struggled to balance appeals to the fans with making a script actually work for the screen. Thus far, I’m sad to say that very few films that are directly based on a property are actually passable, but there’s always a chance to break the losing streak.
Unfortunately, Sonic The Hedgehog ...

Deutschland 89 Is A Terrific Finish To An Espionage Epic.

4… 3… 2… 1…
Everyone knows that there are a lot of film trilogies out there, but I don’t think that I’ve ever seen the development of an apparent trilogy of television series until I came across the Deutschland franchise. Anna and Jörg Winger’s spy epic is tense, exciting, and a lot more down to earth than a lot of other espionage titles that are out there, but you already know about that if you’ve been following this blog for any length of time. With that said, one question remains.
Does Deutsc...

Season 2 Of The Mandalorian Is Easy To Love, But It’s Not Perfect.

Sure, I’ll have seconds!
I think it’s safe to say that Disney and Lucasfilm struck a hidden gold mine with the first season of The Mandalorian. Disney+’s flagship show almost single-handedly saved the Star Wars universe from backsliding into irrelevance while presenting a simple, focused, and fun story. It’s the dream of every creator, but it leads to a very simple question.
Can a show like this sustain any kind of momentum?
Absolutely, but that comes with a few caveats. Let’s do this!
And by th...

The Right Stuff Brings Mythology Back Down To Earth.

We live in a golden age of interesting television.
Several periods of American history had a reputation for producing people who we would now regard as heroes. While the culture typically reflects on war and politics as the primary crucibles of American heroism, National Geographic took a slightly route by focusing on the Space Race in The Right Stuff. Sure, it’s got all of the intrigue and interest that comes with the middle of the Cold War, but the peaceful pursuit of discovery captured the im...

Solo: A Star Wars Story Is Pretty Good… If You Toss Out The Sequel Trilogy.

I genuinely enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would, but…
In my opinion, Solo probably didn’t have a chance. It was released hot on the heels of The Last Jedi to a reasonable amount of acclaim, but it ultimately failed at the box office. Some people blamed the dumpster fire that preceded it, others pointed to “sequel fatigue,” and yet more came up with convoluted reasons for why Lucasfilm screwed up.
With that said, is it good?
I would say yes… if you completely cast the sequel tril...

The Mandalorian Is A Blast Of Fresh Air.
I never thought that I’d absolutely love a story in this universe again, but here I am!
With the obvious exception of Rogue One, I think it’s easy to say that most of the Disney Star Wars films have provoked reactions that range from relative indifference (The Force Awakens) to outright rage (The Last Jedi). To make matters worse, nothing seems to be selling all that well, and the lack of even the broadest of outlines is drawing even further negativity from a certain menace in the fandom. Above ...

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Is Surprisingly Okay.

It’s been a while.
If you’ve been following my work for any length of time, you’re probably aware of the fact that I had to take a break from the Star Wars franchise since the incredible train crash that was The Last Jedi. While I recently came around on Luke’s storyline, that entire film is such a mess that I wondered how JJ Abrams could possibly salvage the whole trilogy.
With this in mind, I invested in a Disney+ subscription and saw The Rise Of Skywalker.
It was shockingly fine.
Oh, don’t ge...
