Inside Destruction – Part Five – The World To Come.
Where do we go from here?
Now that I’ve given you a sneak peek into the world of Maereath, it is time to announce where I am going to take you next as the adventure continues.
The Sequels
As I’ve mentioned in other areas of the Internet, I have outlined the full story of Helisah Almari from beginning to end and am currently working towards the completion of the project. Without spoiling too much,Destructionis an examination of the beginning of the war and the motives of our main cast, which i...

Inside Destruction – Part Four – Support Is Everything.
Just as it is important to craft heroes that an audience can empathize with, it is crucial to construct a supporting cast of characters that are distinctive in their desires, motivations, and actions. Even if they are on the page for a few moments,a strong group of supporting characters can elevate a novel to the point where it feels like readers are taking a look intoa different world. In Destruction, the many characters that Helisah and Aegras come across on their journey aretasked with a du...

Inside Destruction – Part Three – Brothers and Sisters.

Aegras is on the print copy, so look closely.
The development of the main cast ofDestruction came about from an effort to make the fantasy genre as accessible to the masses as humanly possible. While some of my reasoning for it may have been based around profitability, I think that one aspect of fantasy that puts people off of it is the fact that it is often based around an enormous main cast. For instance, I likeGame of Thronesas a show, but it represents a prime example of a saga where a va...

Calm The Hell Down: Idris Elba, Anthony Horowitz, and the James Bond Controversy.
You could do way, way worse than this badass for an iconic role like James Bond.
Half of Twitter is collectively shitting a brick right now over how Anthony Horowitz said that Idris Elba is “too street” to play James Bond. Now, I know that the media loves a good monkey shit-fight (and I do, too, from time to time), but let’s be honest:
Anthony Horowitz is wrong about how awesome Idris Elba would be, but this is a non-issue. Calm your tits.
You know how I know why? It’s because this controvers...
Inside Destruction – Part Two – Why Sauron, Why?
His will be done.
In almost every story that’s worth a damn, you need a bad guy to make bad things happen to the protagonists. Unfortunately, not every story creates a good reason for why the villain acts the way that they do. Some of these characters may be excused depending upon the genre, but it is often not acceptable for a fantasy story to create a villain like Sauron that only wants to conquer the world for, you know, reasons.
Why?
Larger-Than-Life Historical Villains Were Motivated By...

Inside Destruction – Part One – In The Beginning…
Resist or Die.
Now thatDestruction has been released to the world, I thought I would take the time to remark on the project and how it came to be. The concept for this novel came about from a wide variety of sources that offeredpieces of inspiration, ranging from related books and movies to readings about history to discussions with friends and family about said subjects. In the beginning of 2014, the story began to take form around the concept of a fantasy environment that was shown through...

Fear The Walking Dead Had A Very Lazily Scripted Pilot.
I wish I could…
The Walking Dead is probably one of the biggest hits in television right now alongside shows like Game of Thrones andHomeland. Naturally, the overwhelming success of Rick Grimes and his band of survivors led AMC to consider how to expand the franchise. Interestingly enough,Fear The Walking Deadis slated to be a story that acts as a prequel and eventual sidequel to the story that we all know. Unfortunately, I think that the pilot failed to deliver a good story that shows the st...

Three Reasons Why Dead Comic Book Characters Should Stay Dead.
No one can say that Coulson isn’t awesome. However…
I think that most people will agree that superheroes have become the new form of mythology that we have all grown accustomed to in recent years. Personally, Ihave beena fan of the television, gaming, and film exploits of Marvel and DC Comics for as long as I can remember, ranging from the Batman cartoons of the mid-90s to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we all know today. Many of the stories that have been adapted from both studios are a...

I Love Doctor Who For Its’ Imagination. I Hate It For Its’ Ethics.
Oh, boy. Here we go.
In recent years, the long-running British science fiction showDoctor Who has become a major hit in the United States. Like many new fans, I was intrigued by the show with the appearance of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, so I went back and watched everything starting from the (new) beginning in 2005. Needless to say, I have had mixed feelings about the show the more I’ve thought about it. It is certainly imaginative and has the capacity to go anywhere that the writers...

Dear Fox, We Need To Have A Talk About These Reboots…
Allow me to teach you a lesson you won’t soon forget.
Are you okay? You seem to becoming down with some kind of illness where you keep ranting and raving about the glory days of your network in the last two decades. Now, most people would think that the news of a24,Married with Children,andX-Files reboot would be a sign that you are completely out of ideas and looking for a quick cash-in on old stories, but by golly, your network executives sure know better than the public does, am I right?
I...
