Gothic Knights
Nothing better than a poem about Angels to start the week off right
#MusicandMuseMonday – Ocean of Time
.
Ocean of Time
Sweet River of Life
Sweep away
This Worry; This Strife
Delicate Splendour
Majestic and Fine
Sing Harmoniously
And Far Outshine
The Chaos we mere Mortals
Imbue;
Ever Present, Ever Shimmering
Intangible and True,
Sanctus Eleison
Life and Breath
River of Time
Ocean of Rest

#Fantasy #BookReview – Elf Killers
.
It is the very worst time to be in the woods.
Oisin’s plan is to come with his bow to help Aedan and Doona lead a party of children into the forest to gather the maidenhair seedlings his people would take across the sea as they flee the trolls who hunt them as prey. Maybe he can be back in time for supper. And if he only dares to dream, he might also be back in time to speak with Doona alone.
Dyr’s plan is an early evening head smash for the foolish Elves who think they can steal away to the sands of the endless eye sting water and build their strange float huts. They will make a glorious feast.
But on the way, Dyr’s brutes stumble across Oisin’s gathering party and attack, leaving Aedan mortally wounded and scattering Doona and the children to flee in terror into the dark mountain woods, only to be run down and captured by the bloodthirsty trolls.
Can Oisin find the bonfires of the trolls and rescue them before it’s too late? And what then? Will any of them live long enough to reach safety?
*******
The very first thing that captured my imagination about Elf Killers was the wonderful languages the author created for the Trolls and the Elves, which are found in a handy glossary at the back of the book. I read through this first, actually, before diving into the story and am glad I did, as otherwise I might have been flicking to the glossary disruptively throughout my reading. The adventure takes off within the first few paragraphs, whisking the reader away to mythical realms and immersing them in a world of goodness, brutality, fear, romance, and intrigue.
The story is a prequel, which had me anticipating I would become attached to the characters and long to follow the story into the Heart of the Staff series; unfortunately, I didn’t connect with them as I hoped I might until nearly half way through the book. They simply didn’t grab my hand and lure me in, but as I thought about it, I came to the conclusion that Elves are, by nature, secretive and this is why (at least in my mind) they didn’t choose to overwhelm me and reveal all their secrets at once. I was ultimately drawn into the action, as well as the compelling love triangle amidst the Elves, which kept me reading through to the satisfying conclusion.
A solid first offering introducing readers to what promises to be a thrilling series!

In The Lime Light – #Poet Spotlight – House of Heart Blog
.
I would love to take a few moments of your time to introduce you to an amazing poetess (IF you don’t already know her, that is!). Writer of lyrical prose that never fails to make me “sigh!”, I simply had to invite her to share more about herself and her writing in a Lime Light. So pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea (coffee, chai, Mt. Dew, or whathaveyou) and read on to discover all about Holly from HeartaFire blog/ House of Heart.
Please Introduce us to your Blog. What is it all about? What sorts of posts do you lean towards?
Morgan, thank you for the opportunity to be included in your interviews of
bloggers. I am very honored to participate and delighted to be among these
very creative writers, poets, artists, etc. My blog came to being several years ago when I began blogging with a friend. I closed it in 2014 when
my friend passed away, I began blogging again in 2015 at my present site
House of Heart, an eclectic blog leaning toward poetry.
What Inspires and stirs your creativity?
There are many things that inspire me. The simplest to the dramatic.
Generally it is internal. I may find something beautiful, emotive, bright, sad that stirs a desire to express my feelings. Some times it is life experience covertly layered in the lines or unfurled without regard to recognition. I sometimes write to music.
Conversely, what do you find difficult to write about?
I find it most difficult to write about personal experience, to write
unconstrained about my own life. I feel that to be able to do this effectively
is the mark of a good writer. Until one is able to write from the “gut” they
are holding back and can’t reach their full potential as a writer.
What Message, if any, do you hope to Share through your blog/posts?
I am not sending a message. I written a number of poems in the memory of
my friend, a brilliant writer and linquist, I will probably continue in an effort
to keep his writing alive. I find it a wonderful outlet as well, therapeutic, in addition it is a storage space for my writing.
How has your blog helped you as a writer/Indie Author? What things have you learned along the way that you never anticipated?
I have learned that blogging is in many ways social networking and not at all
like the work-shopping sites I was used to participating in. I was not really aware of that initially. I have been a member and moderator
at several work-shopping poetry sites, they are quite different in that there
is critique in work shopping that can be harsh and ones needs a thick skin, but I highly recommend it to all serous writers.
About your poetry:
What Inspires you to write your poetry?
I have been writing poetry since age eight. I had a poem published at an
early age and was encouraged. My mother passed away when I was very
young, I think in writing I found an outlet in my writing, an escape from some of the sadness of that period.
From what Point of View do you prefer to write? Is there a reason?
I often write in the first person. I love to write short fiction, Noir, soft erotica, and I have not ruled out the hard stuff, as I mentioned above, I feel to be a good writer we must be open to all genre’s.
How would you describe your “Voice” or Style of writing?
My poetry is generally romantic, having to do with joy, heartbreak, loss,
grief, fantasy, total fiction, or just life.
What genre do you prefer to write or are you truly eclectic?
I write poetry and short prose at my blog. I find that extremely long
narratives are hard for the reader to focus on as there are so many excellent
blogs and messages that they want to cover. I believe my blog would be
considered eclectic in that in addition to writing, I post art and music,
and have some of my own artwork and photography posted there. Here and there you many find an opinion on a topic that is of interest to me.
Do you painstakingly plot out your poetry; are you a discovery writer or a bit
of both? Why?
I don’t plan my poetry. It is just a spark that grows without reason, but in the end has a reason.
Please share two or three of your favorite poems and tell us a little about them:
I like the detail of this poem, the intricacies:
Dahlia’s of Stars
Dahlias of stars fill the sky.
Below, a mysterious expanse
of sea, home to anomalies,
exotic and strange exist in
deep trenches or rise to the
glimmering surface.
Bell shaped blobs with slippery
tendrils and sun seeking plankton
catch in the froth of white horses
that drop them on the shore,
feast to scavengers or saved
by the rush of incoming waves.
We are grains of sand ,
A speck of hope, an inclination of desire
spellbound in particles of splendor,
beating against the current,
crying out for the tide to save us.
I wrote this while observing the opening and fading of rose in my own garden.
Life Cycle of a Rose
She stands erect on a tall stalk
wrapped in veiny leaves
burgeoned with fat globules
of viscous dew.
For love of light
she spreads tender petals
to the broad faced sun
sinking sinewy roots
into the earth.
Swollen with nectar her
corolla lifts upright.
At dusk she combs the air
with sweetness,
retreating at night into
pearly pools of the moon.
About YOU:
If you had to describe yourself to someone who has never met you,
what might you say?
I would have to tell them that I am rather unpredictable, an empath but
cautious. I love people who are kind and even some who are at times, not. I am an advocate for abused children, the homeless, animals.
I abhor domestic violence, the mistreatment of children, the abuse of
animals. One might consider me guarded having been raised by
grandparents and an often absent and detached father. I am not really sure how that affected my outlook on life.
If you could meet one person from the past, who might it be and why?
I suppose it would be Pablo Neruda. I think he is a master poet and writer,
but I am most intrigued by his political life; forced exile and nomination for
the Chilean presidency.
When you are NOT writing, what is your favorite pastime?
I am an artist (strictly hobbyist) I like to take nature photographs
(though I have no gift for it). I like to spend time in the Florida Keys,
I might be found docked behind the Caribbean Club.
Describe Your Dream Getaway Destination. Have you ever been there? What makes this place Irresistible to you?
I lived in Germany for two years. I traveled to France and many European
countries. They are irresistibly beautiful.
My favorite escape is to the Florida Keys and Bimini or the Bahamas.
What “Charity” or “Cause” do you feel passionately about & Why?
I am very passionate about St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital,
The City of Hope in Los Angeles, Ca. They are making great progress in
the fight against cancer. The Harley Davidson fund raisers are also high
on my list, support for abused children and homeless families.

#FridayFantasy – Liason – #Poem of #Seasons
.
Softly she calls to him
A Breathless whisper upon the wind,
Shapeless
Drifting
Passion blossoming to him Whim.
Delicately she urges him
A Tender Caress through ephemeral time
Taunting
Teasing
Yearning Cradling his Transient Rhyme.
Tenderly he speaks to her
Tempering his Ardent Rush
Calming
Soothing
Smiling at her Lavish Blush.
Softly he calls to her
A Breathless murmur upon Falling Leaves
Passing
Clasping
Longing Unceasing,
Gathering the harvest of her fertile sheaves.

#TBT – Shake It
I used to go dancing a lot, nearly every weekend. Same place, certainly nothing fancy, but there was a proper DJ, a few good friends, and a fancy to flirt with. Oh it was fun! Yet, now, I don’t go as much. In truth, it’s been years, even though I love to dance, love to hear the driving beat matching my pounding pulse, love to shake what the Good Lord gave me. Yes, I know how. I don’t get out there on the floor only after I’ve had one too many making every step a misstep, every turn a potential disaster, and I certainly don’t do that “White Girl” dance that looks more like there’s a queue for the loo than an expression of rhythmic ecstasy going on.
So why is it, then, that I have abstained for so long? The place is still there, the friends are still about, even the DJ is still in attendance on his given night, but, for whatever reason, I stopped going. Too many late nights? No. That’s the beauty of Saturdays. Not enough “fundage” to foot the bill? Never. Dancing is free; it’s the drinking that is costly. Got bored with the same ol’ scene…ok maybe, but I never went to parade my assets to the flesh market; I only ever went to dance, have a good time and a lot of laughs.
Why, then, deny myself something I enjoy; something that made me giggle, something from which I have dozens of great memories, something that made me feel so good? Job responsibilities got in the way, boyfriend at the time had something to say, supposed spiritual antithesis made me feel I rather ought to pray, not sure which, but something wouldn’t let me play (sorry, it’s the poet in me!) Whatever it was, I simply stopped going.
This happens, though, doesn’t it. Whether it’s the club where we love to dance, or the gym where we work out (and prance? Sorry!) Whether it’s the afternoon game at school we always used to go to, or the local theatre meeting we just can’t find time for anymore, or the church service of a Sunday that we used to attend; there always seems to be something that we sacrifice in order to satisfy the demands and pressures of our lives. It’s the extra job so we can buy a new car, or the late hours at the office so we can pay our inflated mortgage; it’s the dinner party that keeps us from spending time with our children, or the sheer exhaustion of it all that keeps us from getting up off the couch to give our bodies a little physical stimulation (behave now, I mean working out here!)
In the end, though, what are we gaining? Stress? Hassles? Dissatisfaction? 30 extra pounds and borderline diabetes? Estranged loved ones? Lonely children? Insomnia? A Life without Purpose? The list can go on and on. You know what they say: All work and no play….All Stress and no Pray….
My Point? (yes, you and I both know I don’t really need one, but once again you are in luck) What I’m saying is simply this: Grab your i-whatever devise and go for a walk. Strap on a helmet and take a spin on that bicycle that’s been sitting (or hanging) in your garage for years. Pick up a ball or a doll and play with your baby before they grow up and don’t want you around. Or better yet, put on your little black dress (unless you’re a man, of course! In that case put on something sleek and sexy that shows off your best attributes), call up some friends and Go Shake Your Grove Thang!
Because the fun you have and the inspiration you achieve will last a vast while longer than any false sense of accomplishment you may gain by working late or ignoring your mate.
