Passage – Her Voice – #FlashFiction
.
Her voice filled his mind; a soliloquy of sound unlike anything he had ever heard. Temptation borne upon the breeze, her whispers spun his thoughts and made his heart hammer; in spite of the fact he could neither understand the language nor hear her intelligibly.
The barren terrain stretched out before him; an expanse as empty as his life had been, up until the moment he had chosen to step through the portal, anyway. The sky over head seemed the only thing to shift as he clambered trudged across fields of pebbles and shale, but her voice drew him onward.
Then, in the distance, a shape appeared against the star-jeweled horizon.

Passage- The Void – #FlashFiction
.
Stepping into the shimmering darkness of the landscape, he cast about him seeking the speaker whose voice seemed to echo from the distance louder than it spoke from the nearby. Soft, subtle, a whisper drifting on the insubstantial breeze; her voice drew him like an intoxication he could not deny and serrated through him, as chilling as ice drawn across exposed skin.
The barren surroundings offered no evidence of her existence. Stretching outward toward a rose-hue horizon awash with stars, the rocky terrain undulated like a serpent, beguiling perception and tempting intrepidity. Her voice compelled him into the void.
He followed.

In The Lime Light – E.J. Bennet – #AuthorSpotlight
This Weekend’s Author spotlight is on Enesha Bennet author of the YA/Fantasy novel, Secrets of the mind and also the children’s book author of My little brother which features her own children.
E.J Bennett is a stay at home mom of two young children, a girl age 5 and a boy age 2. Due to her little boy been born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, E. J found that she has no time for a full time job. She wanted to do more with her life than be a stay at home parent so she wrote her first children’s book My little brother to help other children and families who are expecting or have a baby born with a cleft lip. E.J then went on to write her first YA/Fantasy novel, Secrets of the mind.
Hello EJ! Booknvolume is happy you stopped by for a natter. Can you tell us about your books?
The first book I wrote and published is a children’s book which is called My Little Brother. I wrote my little brother through the eyes of my daughter to help children gain a better understanding about children born with cleft lips and palates. Although cleft lip and palates are one of the most common birth defects little is known about the condition.
I went on to write two more children’s books The Seasonal Fairies. My daughter has a big love of fairies which sparked my idea. I then went on to write my first YA/Fantasy book Secrets of the mind. This is about a teenager who is plagued with nightmares of men with haunting red eyes. The novel has many twists and turns.
What Inspired you to write your book?
I love to read. I have had a love of books from a young age. Ideas for stories seem to be constantly floating around my head. One day I decided to put my story to paper.
From what Point of View do you prefer to write? Is there a reason?
I like to write in first tense. I guess the reason is while I am writing I like to pretend I am the character which gives me a better focus to write and explain what my characters are feeling at the time.
How would you describe your “Voice” or Style of writing?
My writing style is like a paint brush that clearly paints an image. The thoughts, feelings and metaphors I use are like colors to create each scene, making them different and stand out in their own right.
What genre do you prefer to write or are you truly eclectic?
I like to write Fantasy and Paranormal. As a teenager I loved shows like charmed, Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel. So my writing generally reflects on what I like to read and watch.
Do you painstakingly plot out your story; are you a discovery writer or a bit of both? Why?
I just let the words flow, then when I get to around chapter 3-4 I think oh I forgot to plot. I then plot and plan out my story but my characters always have other ideas and take me in new exciting directions.
Do you have a favourite or least favourite character? And Why?
I don’t think I have a favourite or least favourite at this time. With this been the first in my series I may think differently has the characters progress.
Can you Share an insight or secret about your books?
My book was originally around 600 pages long and after a discussion with my editor we got it to 274 pages the rest of the pages that we had taken out have been turned into 1.5 which is called Inner secrets and looks at the story from the other characters points of views and also reveals some secrets.
What do you feel is your best advice to share with other aspiring authors?
The advice I would give to other aspiring authors would be to join facebook groups for supporting authors. I have met many talented authors who are always ready to give you a helping hand or that little kick or inspiration you need.
I would also advice to keep writing, some days you will feel your writing is rubbish. Writing rubbish is better than not writing at all and that rubbish may become a vital part of your story if not it can be weaned out or created into something imaginative when it comes to rewrites.
GREAT Advice

Clockwork Vigilantes.
I couldn’t resist sharing this AMAZING Steampunk Short Story by the equally Amazing Richard M. Ankers. When you want to get lost in words, be sure to stop by his blog and immerse yourself in his writing …you wont be sorry!
Big Ben strikes midnight. Nobody hears it, for the fog that engulfs it swallows the sound.
A murder of clockwork crows patrol the city gaslights, their tiny, metal feathers clacking as they’re preened. They see all. They know all. But they don’t see him.
He hisses through the alleyways; people think it the sewers expelling gas. The fog is his friend, it camouflages his greasy residue and coal black smogs. He is not a man, though, he was. There are parts of him that remember the details of life, but not at night, and certainly not on nights such as this, the dark and brooding London evenings he knows best.
He rubs the pistons that power his legs, as if to bring life to them, but there is no life, not anymore. He is a heartless automaton altered for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill. Only the…

#FridayFantasy – Summerfest – #BookTeaser
The vale for Summerfest was on the boundary of the village, set against the backdrop of Veryn Falls, a waterfall that plummeted steeply from the heights of the Ryvyn Mountains. Splashing from hundreds of feet above, Veryn Falls’ crystalline waters were cushioned by a multitude of moss covered bastions and ivy-laden arches, and the waters fell, ‘plashing and laughing, into an emeraldine pool that stretched out its bountiful hand at the base of the falls and flowed onward through the village, supplying water and life to all.
The broad clearing around its bejeweled precincts sparkled with hundreds of tiny lanterns strung through the surrounding forest canopy and was brightened by cheerful fires and glowing torches scattered throughout. Tables of food and fountains of drink were placed advantageously, musicians played the flute and the drum, the lyre and the lute, dancing lacewings flitted and darted, and the entire scene was alive with palpable joy and anticipation.
As the seasons shifted , the fey of the light gathered together for a celebration of color and brightness. They dressed in glittering, bejeweled costumes; decorated their homes with sparkling lanterns, filled their porches and gardens with fresh fruit, crisp garden vegetables, sweet baked treats and sugary indulgences for any passerby to enjoy, and played a multitude of musical instruments in a discordant symphony of jubilant sound.
Parading along the avenues from home to home in dancing, fluttering, gleeful revelry, fey of all ages delighted in the company of their friends and family while eating and drinking the sweet temptations of the season, and at the end of the evening’s festivities, all fey, young and old, joined together to venerate the arrival of the Season of Light.
They gathered in the Clearing of the Stars, where the forest canopy contracted and one could gaze up, out of the darkling hedge of ancient trees, into the glittering night sky, enchanted by the glowing moon and the sparkling stars overhead. Drawing together, they began the Incantation of the Changing Seasons led by their village Celebrant, their voices subdued and solemn after a full day of laughing and singing. As they spoke the lyrical invocation, they paced through an intricate dance, which marked the ending of the darkness and cold of winter and the beginning of the growing and gathering seasons, with austerity. Bowing, pausing, stepping, clapping, pausing, clasping hands, turning, releasing, passing, turning, pausing, spiraling, clapping and repeating until the midnight horns rang through the clear night air.
Life and Light were in their fullest glory on this fair night, dazzling the eye from the heavens overhead, spilling verdant green from the forest canopy, blossoming in sweet beauty and supplying bounty for every life. It was the last day of the Season of Plenty, the pinnacle of joyful abundance and Light loving fey everywhere rejoiced for the profusion.
*** It is the time of year when the Fey of the Light celebrate Summerfest and in Honour of the Sweet Joy of Harmony, Family and Friendship, I wanted to share this collection of excerpts from Dark Fey The Reviled.****

#FridayFantasy – Passage, Time Stood Still – #FlashFiction
.
Time stood still, a product of perception; perhaps a fragment of the imagination only, which was neither tangible nor incorporeal. He stood looking into the figment, wonder expanding through his thoughts like a mirror replicating that which he saw, stretching, reaching into the unknown.
Where had he come? What place filled his gaze? A dark encapsulation of mystery sparkled in his eyes; innumerable points of light filling what once stood empty, alone; and that bejeweled cacophony of silence reflected in his liquescent gaze as a whisper just above the point of perception hinted he was not alone.
A feminine voice.

#Writephoto – Passage – #FlashFiction
.
The well stood waiting, pristine, ready. A passage into the beyond; a portal primed and dedicated to its cause. The mystery of its magic drew him to its glistening side and enraptured his stare as musings tumbled in a myriad directions.
Where would this lost vestige of time transport him and what race of people would he encounter after crossing?
A doorway into the past; an entrance into realms unknown; the portal sparkled in the morning light’s splendor, awaiting his decision. Step into the precariously unfamiliar or remain amid the languid familiarity of his present reality.
Smiling, he stepped within.
