I would love to take a few moments of your time to introduce you to an amazing poetess (IF you don’t already know her, that is!).  Writer of lyrical prose that never fails to make me “sigh!”, I simply had to invite her to share more about herself and her writing in a Lime Light. So pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea (coffee, chai, Mt. Dew, or whathaveyou) and read on to discover all about Holly from HeartaFire blog/ House of Heart.

Please Introduce us to your Blog. What is it all about? What sorts of posts do you lean towards?

Morgan, thank you for the opportunity to be included in your interviews of

bloggers. I am very honored to participate and delighted to be among these

very creative writers, poets, artists, etc. My blog came to being several years ago when I began blogging with a friend. I closed it in 2014 when

my friend passed away, I began blogging again in 2015 at my present site

House of Heart, an eclectic blog leaning toward poetry.

What Inspires and stirs your creativity?

There are many things that inspire me. The simplest to the dramatic.

Generally it is internal. I may find something beautiful, emotive, bright, sad that stirs a desire to express my feelings. Some times it is life experience covertly layered in the lines or unfurled without regard to recognition. I sometimes write to music.

Conversely, what do you find difficult to write about?

I find it most difficult to write about personal experience, to write

unconstrained about my own life. I feel that to be able to do this effectively

is the mark of a good writer. Until one is able to write from the “gut” they

are holding back and can’t reach their full potential as a writer.

What Message, if any, do you hope to Share through your blog/posts?

I am not sending a message. I written a number of poems in the memory of

my friend, a brilliant writer and linquist, I will probably continue in an effort

to keep his writing alive. I find it a wonderful outlet as well, therapeutic, in addition it is a storage space for my writing.

How has your blog helped you as a writer/Indie Author? What things have you learned along the way that you never anticipated?

I have learned that blogging is in many ways social networking and not at all

like the work-shopping sites I was used to participating in. I was not really aware of that initially. I have been a member and moderator

at several work-shopping poetry sites, they are quite different in that there

is critique in work shopping that can be harsh and ones needs a thick skin, but I highly recommend it to all serous writers.

About your poetry:

What Inspires you to write your poetry?

I have been writing poetry since age eight. I had a poem published at an

early age and was encouraged. My mother passed away when I was very

young, I think in writing I found an outlet in my writing, an escape from some of the sadness of that period.

From what Point of View do you prefer to write? Is there a reason?

I often write in the first person. I love to write short fiction, Noir, soft erotica, and I have not ruled out the hard stuff, as I mentioned above, I feel to be a good writer we must be open to all genre’s.

How would you describe your “Voice” or Style of writing?

My poetry is generally romantic, having to do with joy, heartbreak, loss,

grief, fantasy, total fiction, or just life.

What genre do you prefer to write or are you truly eclectic?

I write poetry and short prose at my blog. I find that extremely long

narratives are hard for the reader to focus on as there are so many excellent

blogs and messages that they want to cover. I believe my blog would be

considered eclectic in that in addition to writing, I post art and music,

and have some of my own artwork and photography posted there. Here and there you many find an opinion on a topic that is of interest to me.

Do you painstakingly plot out your poetry; are you a discovery writer or a bit

of both? Why?

I don’t plan my poetry. It is just a spark that grows without reason, but in the end has a reason.

I like the detail of this poem, the intricacies:

Dahlia’s of Stars

Dahlias of stars fill the sky.

Below, a mysterious expanse

of sea, home to anomalies,

exotic and strange exist in

deep trenches or rise to the

glimmering surface.

Bell shaped blobs with slippery

tendrils and sun seeking plankton

catch in the froth of white horses

that drop them on the shore,

feast to scavengers or saved

by the rush of incoming waves.

We are grains of sand ,

A speck of hope, an inclination of desire

spellbound in particles of splendor,

beating against the current,

crying out for the tide to save us.

I wrote this while observing the opening and fading of rose in my own garden.

Life Cycle of a Rose

She stands erect on a tall stalk

wrapped in veiny leaves

burgeoned with fat globules

of viscous dew.

For love of light

she spreads tender petals

to the broad faced sun

sinking sinewy roots

into the earth.

Swollen with nectar her

corolla lifts upright.

At dusk she combs the air

with sweetness,

retreating at night into

pearly pools of the moon.

About YOU:

If you had to describe yourself to someone who has never met you,

what might you say?

I would have to tell them that I am rather unpredictable, an empath but

cautious. I love people who are kind and even some who are at times, not. I am an advocate for abused children, the homeless, animals.

I abhor domestic violence, the mistreatment of children, the abuse of

animals. One might consider me guarded having been raised by

grandparents and an often absent and detached father. I am not really sure how that affected my outlook on life.

If you could meet one person from the past, who might it be and why?

I suppose it would be Pablo Neruda. I think he is a master poet and writer,

but I am most intrigued by his political life; forced exile and nomination for

the Chilean presidency.

When you are NOT writing, what is your favorite pastime?

I am an artist (strictly hobbyist) I like to take nature photographs

(though I have no gift for it). I like to spend time in the Florida Keys,

I might be found docked behind the Caribbean Club.

Describe Your Dream Getaway Destination. Have you ever been there? What makes this place Irresistible to you?

I lived in Germany for two years. I traveled to France and many European

countries. They are irresistibly beautiful.

My favorite escape is to the Florida Keys and Bimini or the Bahamas.

What “Charity” or “Cause” do you feel passionately about & Why?

I am very passionate about St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital,

The City of Hope in Los Angeles, Ca. They are making great progress in

the fight against cancer. The Harley Davidson fund raisers are also high

on my list, support for abused children and homeless families.
