CampNaNo Update #3

I am two days late posting this because it has just been one of those bank holiday weekends. I didn’t have time to write anything, let alone post blog posts. My littlest had a temperature and my eldest needed entertaining. Adulting and parenting took priority.

That being said, I still hit my targets. Small and manageable is the way forward for me, and the day I did a little extra covered me for Sunday’s absence. I’m on my way to 6k words. As it is a novella, 6k words is a huge chunk and a lot of story happens within those words. It’s great knowing a little input is wielding big results.

My word count for this week is:

1,315 words

That’s a total of:

4,613 words

Remember today is a double blog post day. My teaser Tuesday post will go live shortly.

Character Interview: Dagger

Today’s interview is with Dagger, the protag (should I say anti-heroine) in my zombie novella, Zombie Playlist.

I LOVED writing Dagger. She is a sarcastic, straight talking, zombie apocalypse survivor, and a self proclaimed asshole, as only the assholes survive the apocalypse. Dagger was the character I was most nervous about releasing into the wild, but she received a fantastic reception. I hope you like her too.

Interview:

Dagger, why do you think that you survived a zombie apocalypse?

I know how to handle myself and I didn’t have anyone to drag my ass down. Plus, I’m an asshole… it helps.

Do you think I gave a fair appraisal of you in my introduction?

You forgot unapologetically beautiful, but yeah, it’ll do.

Could you give me some zombie survival tips?

1. Kill them before they kill you. That goes for the living as well as the dead, bitey assholes.

2. See point one.

There’s one person who might say that you’re not as cold and heartless as you first seem? What do you have to say about that?

Nothing.

Nothing at all?

*Smirks* Well, maybe you are shit at appraisals after all.

Okay, fair play. What quote do you choose to live by?

See zombie survival tip one.

Teaser Tuesday

Another productive week on the writing front. Check out my CampNaNo Week 2 update for more on that, but today I’m throwing a teaser your way….

I had to take names out of this one. For context, imagine someone who has a pointy, metal bar to hand, but won’t or can’t use it when they need to.

Tomorrow’s Character Interview post is with the anti-heroine of my first zombie novella, Zombie Playlist. Pop by tomorrow to get to know Dagger a little better.

CampNaNo Update #2

I’m still on target, folks. This process of sitting down and knowing I only have to hit 200 words is totally working for me. There’s no pressure, I know I can achieve my target, and I can get on with my day knowing words have been written. If I don’t do it in the morning, I can get 200 words down in 20 minutes before bed.

I will definitely continue this process even after CampNaNo.

My word count for this week is:

1,307 words

That’s a total of:

3,298 words

Remember to pop by on Tuesday for my Teaser Tuesday post!

Character Interview: Teddie Leason

Theyda ‘Teddie’ Leason is the protag in my first book series, EVO Nation. I started taking notes and drafting parts of EVO Nation 9 years ago! I feel that Teddie has been with me much longer, and now, she’s here with you…

Interview:

Teddie, what do you want to be remembered as?

The girl who didn’t stop ’til it was done.

The best moment of your life?

The days after it all. I mean, it’s weird trying to figure out where I fit in this new world, but I wake up every day, I’m surrounded by people I love, and I get to just be Teddie, and not shared out as a million, distorted versions of myself. Seriously, everyone wanted a piece of who they thought I was.

The worst moment of your life?

Wow, I have so many and they all involve someone dying. I’d rather not go into detail.

What would you say are you best traits?

I’m loyal, I treat friends as family, and I’m strong willed.

What would you say are your worst traits?

Sometimes, I need to listen more to the people who care about me. Their advice is given in love.

What quote do you chose to live by?

‘Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.’

That is a quote by Charles. R. Swindoll. I have it framed on the wall. It was a gift from Adam.

Teaser Tuesday

I won’t bore you too much with CampNaNo details as I have already done an update post on that front. I will, however, say that things are going great, and I’m on track to finish on time.

I had many teasers to choose from last week’s writing sessions, but I opted for this one as it’s simple and still provides a glimpse into two of my characters personalities.

Don’t forget to join me tomorrow for my first character interview post of the series.

CampNaNo Update #1

We’re one week into NaNo, and I am on target. I had a hectic day on Friday, so I gave myself a day off from writing and did double on Saturday. I’ve already had a twenty minute writing session this morning, so this week is officially done and dusted for me.

I haven’t been very interactive in my cabin, but I simply only have time to get my few words written in the morning before adulting takes over.

My target is 6k words in a month.

My weekly word count was:

1,991 words

Next week, I have some fun chapters to write and an eccentric character to expand. Fingers crossed the words flow.

Keep your eyes peeled on Tuesday for my Teaser Tuesday post and a snippet from this week’s writing.

Prompt Me

You may already know quite a lot about my writing prompt book, Prompt Me, if you followed by first blog series of 2019, but for my new followers, I wanted to quickly recap what the book is and where you can get it.

Prompt Me is a book jam packed with 150 writing prompts. There are three main categories: narrative prompts, dialogue prompts, and What would you do if…? prompts.

I love me a good writing prompt, so this book was a natural progression for me. I kept this book under my belt whilst I was writing it for a little bit, because in truth, I wanted to see if it would be any good. A writing prompt book was new territory to me.

As Prompt Me was at a reduced price for 10 whole weeks whilst the series was running, I’m afraid there are no offers on this week. However, you can get your copy from Amazon.

Praise for Prompt Me

A great selection of prompts nicely separated into 3 distinct categories. Really helped spark some new ideas. Definitely recommend it. ~Amazon reviewer

Prompt Me is a brilliant resource for anyone who needs to get those creative juices flowing.~ Amazon reviewer

It has to be one of the best prompt books I’ve come across for me personally.’ ~Amazon reviewer

This is the last book promo post for a while. My character interviews posts start next Wednesday. I hope you pop in to see what’s in store.

Teaser Tuesday

I am hoping to be much more consistent on the writing front as CampNaNo started yesterday. I hit my target yesterday, so I got the good start I wanted. Long may it continue.

Here’s a snippet from yesterday’s writing session:

Remember to check in on Friday for my CampNaNo update. I hope I will have good news on the word count front.

March Update

March has been a strange one. On a personal front, I have been productive. Lots of things have been planned and organised, and we’re steaming ahead into spring. My writing, however, has floundered yet again.

Writing

Floundered is the right word. I feel like I’m treading water – badly – with my WIP, Zombies and Budgie Smugglers. (If you missed the title reveal, that is what it will be called.)

It’s not that I don’t know where I want to take it, but that I have been fixing a plot hole before CampNaNo starts on April 1st. I think I’ve been slacking with the writing because I know I have the motivation of NaNo to come.

Reading

This month I finished one book, and I am half way through another. I buddy read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas with Sarina Langer and Alyssa Victoria. We all gave it 5*. It is such an important book, and I highly recommend it.

Find my review here.

Blog

I have announced all three of my remaining blog series for 2019. Of course, it’s with thanks to those of you who got in touch with ideas on what you wanted to see.

First up, is the character interview series starting on April 10th. This will run for ten weeks.

Then, we will have a series all about writing the first draft, followed up with a picture prompt series.

CampNaNo

Yes, I signed up despite being adamant I wasn’t going to. I need the motivation, and I have joined a cabin of writer friends to hold me accountable. I shall post weekly updates on a Friday about my NaNo journey.
