Cartagena – What To Do, Eat & See

Hello my loves,

In the first week of March I headed down to Cartagena with my fiancé, where we got to experience the vibrant colors of the city. It was definitely an interesting experience, to say the least, which I will give some detail to in the good and bad. Please remember, this is based on my personal experience. Below I’ll be sharing the covid measures as well as what to do, see, and eat.

GETTING THERE

It’s an easy 2.5 hour flight from Miami, direct to Rafael Núñez International Airport. Prior to flying you must fill out a form via the Columbian immigration website at least the day before as it says it takes 24 hours for approval. You can pay to expedite it to four hours, and apparently there’s an even quicker process that is around $100 per person (I believe). When we were checking in there was a family that didn’t know this and they were frantically trying to do the registration.

Once we arrived there was customs, which was a winding line that took quite a while. They check all your covid related documents and passport, asking you where you are staying, your phone number and all the details you put in the immigration form. It seems a lot of these forms you fill out online don’t make it to the customs agents who actually check your documents. This was a quick process once we got to the counter.

GETTING AROUND

After you go through customs, you’re bombarded with men asking if you need a taxi in the airport. I’ve learned to decline these as it’s typically double the normal fare. There’s a line outside for taxis, which you must have cash for. One thing we noticed was they don’t use meters, telling you how much it is once you arrive. Luckily, they have Uber there which I found to be quite helpful and far easier. If you speak spanish, I am sure you’ll have an easier time with taxi drivers (and just about everything else).

WHAT TO DO

There are many different options for Cartagena and fun things to do, depending on where you are staying and what you are interested in. I will share only what we did.

Eteka beach club – (this is also a hotel which I’ll detail under ‘where to stay’) you take a 5-minute boat ride to Isla de Tierrabomba where you’re greeted with a Tulum-style beach club, complete with palm trees, beach chairs, and a sandy beach while music plays. This is a great place to come for the day, grab a spot in the sun and order lunch.Walk the city – in the morning around 8am there are very few tourists, making for great photo opportunities or for a run along the wall. Otherwise later in the day gets packed full of locals, cars, horse and carriages and is a bit more chaotic, but giving you the full city vibe.Take photos on every street – this is obviously a must, as it’s a beautiful city with colored walls, plants and flowers everywhere, horse drawn carriages and a very magical air the historic streetsLounge by the pool – most hotels have pools and if you book one with a rooftop pool, you’re in for some spectacular views while cooling off from the intense Colombian sunExplore the Rosario Islands – I highly recommend doing a private tour with Boating Cartagena (tell them Nikki sent you) as most other companies will pack you on a small boat with 30 others. We did a tour of all the islands, learning about Pablo Escobar’s abandoned mansion + other houses, going for a swim in the crystal blue water and had a fresh coconut pina colada made fresh by a man on a kayak who pulled up to our boat. Probably one of the coolest ways of having a drink I’ve had! We then stopped for lunch at a beach club before heading home. Trust me, this is an experience you definitely want to do with them.

These are the main things we did, as other time was spent in the hotel room doing business calls or working, as we were on a working holiday. Oh, and DEFINITELY wear + reapply sunscreen as it is hot and you will get burnt easily.

WHERE TO STAY

Here’s where things get interesting – I think Cartagena is a nice city, however the accommodations less than blew my mind. I’m giving a review only on the three we stayed at. They do have a LOT of options though so you can find something at every budget. We tried to stay at Casa San Agustin and Sofitel, both were booked, but those are definitely two I would recommend.

Eteka Hotel – this is a great option if you’re looking for more rustic / jungle vibes. It reminds me of what Tulum was before it became “tulum,” meaning it’s casual, nice music, and great views overlooking the city. I think coming here for a night or two to end your trip would be a fun way to wind down after the city craziness. Pros: great views, nice small beach club, easy to get to, really fun space to have drinks, take photos, or be with friends. If vegetarian definitely order the veggie ceviche (to die for!) and the veggie paella (also insanely good). Cons: wifi was only available in one outside area (not in rooms) where loud music played – so definitely not ideal if you are on a working holiday, vegetarian dishes not always available, they barely speak any english and you have to google translate everything on the menu.Charleston Santa Teresa – this hotel has a beautiful rooftop pool and is lovely historic building. It’s quite expensive though (for the area) and unfortunately we had a pretty terrible experience so I cannot totally recommend it. That being said, others do like it. You can read my full review here to understand what happened and why I’m not a fan as they tried to fraud us (mine is the first one). Pros: great area, beautiful rooftop pool, old historic building, the avocado toast is pretty yummy, nice seating area/restaurant inside. Cons: most staff have poor english, service is incredibly slow, wifi rarely worked in the rooms, construction, moldy smell in room.Bastilion Luxury Hotel – after our nightmare experience with Charleston Bastilion was a lovely change. They all speak english, rooftop pool that’s smaller but still beautiful, the rooms are newer and clean. Overall a much smaller hotel but one I do recommend. Pros: rooftop pool, private terrace above the pool for dinner, dinner at their restaurant was incredible, very friendly staff, new rooms. Cons: the pool looked a bit dirty, our room was not clean when we returned at 4pm.

WHERE TO EAT

I don’t eat fish so the restaurants we went to were based on menus where I could find something vegetarian. In general, Cartagena has not caught up to the rest of the world in terms of a variety of plant based meals and there were times I had to get creative and ask the waiter if they could do changes on the menu. Overall though I was happy with everywhere we ate.

Niku – beautiful courtyard with fun vibes. We went at 7.30pm on a Tuesday and it was us and one other table with about 5 waiters, only 1 spoke english and service was slow. But the food made up for it. We got the tacos (so good we ordered a double portion), the roasted cauliflower and I did veggie sushi. Would definitely recommend this place.Alma – this stunning restaurant is inside Casa San Agustin (where I wish we were able to stay) and the food is pretty spectacular, not to mention live music and fun vibe. I had been recommended the coconut ceviche, but as I dont eat fish, I saw they had hearts of palm – so I asked the to swap the fish for that and wow was it good!Buena Vida Marisqueria – this is across the street from Alma with a rooftop bar where we sat for drinks. The menu looked good, but definitely worth heading there for a cocktail (beware, service was stupid slow though, even with 4 waiters and 2 bartenders taking care of three tables)El Gobernador – this is located inside Bastilion hotel, where we had live music and dined on the most vegetarian-like options of the trip, including falafel and hummus + salad with quinoa, asparagus, avocado and other clean ingredients.Gokela – this is a chain of healthy food which we got to-go and took with us to the airport

These are a few recommendations I was given but we didn’t get a chance to try: Pascal (we went there for lunch but they are strictly reservation only, unlike most dinner spots where we just walked in), La Vitola – this is a classic place where we did have a reservation but cancelled as I really needed some cleaner vegetarian-style food and their menu is mostly fish, Carmen – we also had a reservation but cancelled last minute to do a pasta spot where everything is made in house. La cevicheria and Pezetarian also came up a lot, and we wanted to go dancing at Cafe Havana, but were overwhelmed with moving hotels so much, plus it being very busy in the town.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

A few other things to note, and again, these are solely based on my experience:

If you don’t speak spanish be prepared that very few people in restaurants speak english. Some speak it a bit but our experience was mostly not. We used google translate on many menus as wellMasks are not required anywhere but you will see a lot of tourists wearing them on the street (why?!) and it’s mandatory in there service industry thereService is slowwwwww – just be preparedThe airport is one room with 4 desks of flights leaving. It is LOUD as they have speakers all over and seem to scream the flights leaving + no real food options, bring something with youThe beaches are NOT pretty & the beach you leave from to go to Eteka is filled with guys swarming you trying to sell you things, get you on their boat – it was overwhelmingYou will be harassed and hassled on every street (this is confirmed by our friends who stopped for a day on a cruise); boys are constantly coming up to you to rap about you and have you give money, sell things, etc. I actually didn’t feel safe to bring a purse or wear my engagement ring out because of thisI didn’t feel totally safe in the city. I have travelled a LOT solo over the years, to countries from Kenya to China and this is one of the few trips that I am glad i was not alone. I think post-pandemic there’s a heightened sense of aggression and people needing money. Crime everywhere has gone up – my tip: do not be on your phone walking down the street, just be smart about where you areHave cash on hand – restaurants take cards, taxis dont, getting water from a store is preferred cash

nikki-sharp-cartagena

All in all I am happy I went to experience it but it’s not somewhere that I would personally go again. Of course, your experience might be different, especially if you speak spanish!

XOXO,

Nikki

New York City – Pandemic Impressions

Hello my loves,

As I sit on a plane leaving NYC I thought, what better time than to write about my recent experience in the big apple. I have so many thoughts to share, things I want to recommend, and want to give as much detail as possible. At the same time, I understand the day and age we live in and that Instagram is censoring things, people who disagree with you will try to get you cancelled, and if you put one wrong thing into the ether, something bad may happen.

The reason I share that is that for the first time ever in my career, I realize that I need to be careful with my words. (Not because of how I say them, but based on how others will take them). But I will still try and give you a full review.

THE BUSY-NESS OF NYC

The city is always busy. It’s part of what makes it sexy.

However, maybe it’s me, or maybe it’s everyone else (although it’s probably ME because I can only take responsibility for my life)…. it felt overwhelming. It felt like traffic was worse, there was more consutrction than usual, people were honking more, and overall just intensity in the driving.

NEW-YORK-CITY-NIKKI-SHARP

But then again, maybe its me. Maybe it’s all just that I haven’t been around this for so long that it was a jolt to my nervous system. I mean, I can definitrely say it was far worse than July when I was in the city. Summer was not as hectic as it feels now.

The grind of it all caused me to go into my masculine, which is ironic as it’s the side of me I’ve been actively working on to not be in control. But then again, it’s no wonder that I have many private clients from the New York area who are trying to get more into their feminine. There’s something about this area that pushes women into their masculine….

And yes, I could, and probably SHOULD write a whole blog post about this.

RESTAURANTS I WENT TO THIS TRIP / RECOMMEND

This list is not my *new York recommendations* list, this is ONLY from this last time I was there.

Public rooftop – now I have to preface this: I had a TERRIBLE experience with them as a hotel and honestly will tell you, do not stay at the Bowery location (I can’t speak for other locations). But yea, wow. I don’t often share things like this, but I have to because I cannot believe I’m recommending anything about them. BUT their rooftop is pretty spectacular to view the city for drinks. It’s very hipster vibes and casual.

Pi Greek Bakery – I’ve been here a few times now and 100% recommend it for a coffee, some yummy food (they have a little counter you choose foods from and wow, are they all insanely delish), including their desserts. Yes, save room for the dessert. This is a must-try.

Sixty Soho (Bistrot Leo)– I didn’t try here but there was a live band on Saturday as I walked by with a buzzy atmosphere. For vibes alone I’d choose this place!

Ladurere – you know this place because of the delicious macaroons they make. But on the back street of the store, they have a gorgeous restaurant outside in a courtyard. I didn’t eat here, but again the vibes seemed pretty worth it.

Le Pavillion – snazzy 3 course meal with an incredible interior that’s filled with trees. The food is insane good (like wow!) but definitely be prepared for an expensive bill. It was one of my favorite places as I got to get super dressy.

Divya – this is an Ayurvedic restaurant that has food according to your dosha. The food is all freshly prepared each day and my goodness is this quite possibly one of my favorite healthy joints. You can order via uber eats, but I definitely recommend going in for the full experience.

Pressed – you’ve probably heard of this one as it’s a juice place. But of all of the ones I’ve tried it’s my favorite. They give you the widest range/option of juices and what I love is it’s no frills. They are typically a tiny shop or in the wall and provide a juice. You’re not paying extra for their retail space, if that makes sense.

NEW-YORK-CITY-NIKKI-SHARP

Generation Juice – I don’t really love their juices but Trust Me, the kale chips are worth the visit. Yes please and thank you, and I’ll take a years supply.

Other mentions of places I love:Beyond Sushi – vegan sushi, need I say more?Matchaful – for a delicious plant based matcha latte; they have loads of incredible flavors tooMercer Kitchen – it’s always a poppin’ place and one that I enjoy getting dressed up for

We stayed at Soho Grand and I will say their backroom (bar) is worth hitting up. Very vibey and quite fun!

MANDATES

Without out question the biggest thing you all wanted to know was about the mandates, the passport and what was happening in regard to going out. Here’s what I experienced:

masks are not actually required. Yes, there are signs out front many places but the majority of staff in shops were not wearing theirs. I would always look to see if someone was wearing theirs and if not, I would not put mine on. There was only ONE shop in all of seven days that I was asked to put one on.in taxi and ubers masks did not seem to be required. The app on uber/lyft says you must but when I would ask the drivers not one said I needed to put it on. I’m very respectful and will always ask and ultimately, it’s up to the person who is driving you, which I respect.every restaurant you SIT in, you must show proof of your vaccination. Here’s the funny thing (to me), that you can go in without a mask and order your food, but don’t need to show proof. But if you sit down, you must. What a clever virus we are dealing with (I jest).people checking your card don’t want to. Trust me. (Or maybe those of you who work in the industry, please tell me if you like checking?) But what I noticed was that people check your card and let you in. It’s mandated, it’s not like the 21 year old hostess is trying to be rude, she is literally just doing her job.bars and experience based things, such as an opera (sitting), or an observatory, you must show a card. Ironically going into a fashion store you don’t need to, nor did most care if you had a mask or not. I found this incredibly inconsisnte but I also understand that everyone is just following the random AF rules being placed on their businesses.

NEW-YORK-CITY

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF NYC RIGHT NOW:

Honestly, it’s mixed. In one sense I was so happy to be back, warm weather, having things be “normal” and everyone enjoying themselves – you know, the typical NYC go-getter vibes. And in another sense, as I sit on the plane right now, I realize that my adrenal system took a beating and a half. The busyness of the city, the constant noise, the traffic, the construction, the honking – it’s something that I believe we all took such a much needed break from during the pandemic and going back into it, I honestly thing it’s going to cause a lot of people to get sick, even quicker. We all had this beautiful break of the craziness of life, and then to jump back into it is not good for the body, the nervous system, the mind.

I found myself drinking more alcohol then normal. I do believe this was because I was looking for a numbing from the insanity that was the city – a way to relax. Because even in my hotel, the beautiful Soho Grand, it was still loud AF. I don’t feel I ever had a moment of peace. Not only that but the day I left (earlier today), apparently a man tried to stab some people in Bowery, police came and someone was shot…. long story short. There were sirens, and helicopters, and news cameras (and I was just trying to go to wholefoods to get a salad for the plane and experienced the later end of this). It shut down much of that area and traffic was terrible.

But then again, going to JFK I saw 3 accidents. People seem to be busier, more aggressive, and more in a hurry to get wherever they need to go. I actually didn’t take the subway once this time around. It seems like the pandemic has caused already overly-busy people to try to make up for the “lost” time. I honestly cannot realily explain it much better than that.

I’ve been in this city many, many times. I have lived here. I’ve stayed for short periods and month long periods. And this trip – there was something different. An urency I’ve never experienced. There were times I felt I was back in Bangkok with how insane the traffic was.

So as I sit here on this plane ride, I feel it will take me a few days to decompress. To drop out of my sympathetic nervous system, or the fight or flight, into the para sympatheic, or rest and digest.

NEW-YORK-CITY-NIKKI-SHARP

I love New York. I always will. And I wont stop going. I’m not shocked at how the city took to mandates, but I AM a bit surprised at how fluid the city feels. It genuinely feels like people want to get on with their lives – not be known for being the strict place.

Anyways, these are just MY personal thougths as I sit here on the plane. I realize that every signel person has a didferent thought, view point, and belief, and that’s beautiful. I honor you no matter what you think. Please just remember I’m sharing my experience, which is exactly that – MINE.

Xoxo,

Nikki

Miami Life Update

Hello my loves,

I’ve now been living in Miami for ONE YEAR! I kind of cannot believe it as it took me listening to my higher self to leave an on-off relationship of six years, move from London to Miami in the middle of the pandemic, where I only knew one person (and we had never even met IRL). I knew my friend Giusuppe from the Tony Robbins Platinum Partnership community (part of the reason I joined was to have like-minded friends all over the world), where he graciously offered me to stay at his house for a bit to see if I liked the city.

Moving here during the pandemic was actually wonderful as it meant I learned the soul of the city, as I call it, or the bare bones of what this place is like without all the glitz, glamour, significance, or busyness. Miami is known for great restaurants, fancy cars speeding through South Beach, Art Basel and of course being a huge tourist attraction as well.

I’ll share more in another post about what happened during the past year, as it really has been nothing short of a miracle (that all happened because I chose to trust in myself and the decisions I was making). For the moment though, I wanted to give a little update as to what Miami is like now, one year later since the pandemic as it was one of the few cities open in the world and how it is for me living here.

Miami Life

Living here is nothing short of amazing. Of course, like all places, there are its ups and downs but for the most part I think what Miami offers is very special. And this is coming from the girl who has lived all over the world. Things I really love are the following:

Miami is anything you want it to be – you can dress up, dress down, be fabulously gay, or straight, you can literally have the best time no matter who you are hereBeaches are beautiful – my favorite area is on 60th at Miami Beach as there’s less peopleFood options are excellent – whatever you could want, it’s hereNightlife is a total vibe – I don’t go to clubs but the options for live music bars and great cocktail spots are amazingThe city is stunning – sunset is my favorite time and makes the city pretty dreamyThere’s always something to do – exploring new areas, the beach, restaurants, boating, this city has it allEasy to travel from – the airport is very close and you can get to LA, NYC, London all within one easy flight

Before moving many people told me that Miami was sleazy and super touristy, meaning it was either dudes in Ferrari’s or terribly dressed people spilling onto the streets in South Beach while being overly drunk. The thing is – both are true haha. But there is also SO much more to this city. There is culture, there are people from all over the world who have their communities, there is a meal that fits any taste you have. And of course – people are friendly! This is one thing that I appreciate, especially as it makes the vibe of the city quite calm.

A few things I don’t love quite as much:

It’s hot…all the time. I know, I know – I live in Miami, but I do enjoy colder weather from time to timeEveryone came here during spring break and it seems they haven’t leftTourists are pretty rude and dont respect Miami, leaving it trashedThere are literally the worst drivers – hands down Miami wins for thisRestaurant reservations need to be made far in advance for nice places

nikki-sharp-miami

There are so many incredible things this city has to offer and it’s no surprise to you all that I love it even more now that I’m living with my fiancé. I absolutely recommend traveling here when you get a chance – just a side note, do you research prior as restaurant reservations for example book up SUPER quick!

ALSO – I’m thinking of doing a VIP weekend for a select number of people who want to learn from me and get 1:1 access. Let me know below if you’d be interested and I’ll contact you!

AND – if you want me to do a full Miami guide, drop a comment below.

Xoxo,

Nikki

Getting Engaged: An Intimate Dairy Entry

Hello my loves,

I decided to share my exact journal entry the morning of getting engaged a few weeks ago. I wrote it while we were still in Miami and hadn’t yet taken off to Paradise Island for our weekend getaway.

This is very intimate and private (obviously lol, as it’s my diary). I chose to share it because I realize how we are not taught much about love. We all have thoughts and beliefs that are based on previous experiences, however we don’t go to classes to learn what’s normal and what isn’t. I personally had to go through many years of some pretty tough times within relationships to understand myself better and in turn, be able to show up as the best version of myself to my now fiancé. I hope you enjoy reading this…

And if it speaks to you in any way, drop a comment below and let me know your thoughts.

Xx,

Nikki

Today I think I’m getting engaged. Okay well, I know I am LOL, just not if it’s today or tomorrow.

It’s a strange feeling knowing this tho – like it’s my last day being “single.” And then the next monumental day is when you’re truly “off the market.” 7/23/22

I guess it’s so weird because although as a kid (young adult) I thought I would date someone for 5 years, then be engaged for 3 years, I then realized I had no desire even for marriage. I think every little girl dreams of it because we watch our parents (or other adults in our life) then we see the fairytale in movies. It’s the dream we have all been “promised” from a young age: do your thing as a woman until a man comes along and suddenly life will be happy because you’re getting married.

But I guess I hadn’t found the right man because this dream didn’t feel so dreamy.

There was no one besides my ex that I’ve come close to even thinking about marriage – and that was tumultuous, quite toxic, co-dependent and had all the makings for a rocky relationship. He was the only one I thought that we would – and I guess I did want to. Now that I look back it seems I was after the safety and security that I think all women want in a man. And so, when I learned I would never have that with him, it became easier to part ways. But I’m grateful I had to go through all that I did with him because I had to learn that the safety and security I craved had to come from within. I had to cultivate it from my own soul. And once I did, that’s when I met P.

It is such an interesting journey to be on actually – this love story that I didn’t even know I wanted. We moved in three months to the DAY from our first date without realizing it. We are getting engaged six months to the day.

What’s fascinating is that none of it felt abnormal. Quite the opposite. It felt peaceful and middle ground, meaning there was no big highs or lows, which I’ve learned through doing self-work is to goal. Because when you get too high from things in your life, inevitably there comes a big low. And so keeping a middle group of celebrating everything and moving through challenges quickly has been the basis of my life and now our relationship.

What hasn’t felt normal?

When people make such a big deal of me being in a relationship. Like I’m congratulated for meeting someone and calling him my boyfriend. At first this made me feel really uncomfortable – like why congratulate on such a “silly” thing? I’ve had more people give me accolades on being with P than publishing two books….

But then I realized, or what I think to be true, is that people give congratulations because it’s the thing we all want in this life: love and happiness. I guess my being, or essence, has changed since we met. Although I’d like to believe that I was a vibrant light BEFORE I met him and he didn’t change me. I do get it though; love is a far greater power on this planet than anything else and therefore it’s no wonder people are happy for you.

Then again, maybe after I’ve been single for a while, and those who knew me in the toxic past relationships, are truly happy to see me stable, secure and thriving with a man I love so much.

The second wave of “how interesting” in my mind came when I realized how “normal” this relationship is. Beautiful, inspiring, passionate, incredible…the list goes on and on. But normal doesn’t mean bad or boring, quite the opposite to me. It’s because “normal” in our society tends to mean unhealthy. It’s the same as our food. What we eat is really toxic crap – it’s not real food though, I.E. it’s not “normal food.” So, when people congratulate me, I realize it’s because I’m in a normal (i.e. happy) relationship, it feels strange. Because why should someone congratulate you on what should just the be norm? Alas, I’ve come to realize that because we haven’t been taught to see/feel/know deep inside what true love is, we fall for the first love that comes to us, even if it’s toxic. And so congratulating is based on this deep desire for love that we all have. Well, love really starts with you…

And that’s why I’m here today. Because I feel I’ve done the work and will continue to do it. I’ve worked through my fears, the challenges that have presented themselves, the disappointment and regrets. I’ve shifted my thinking and prioritized my own self-love and happiness. And that’s when I met P, when I was in touch with my soul on a deep and expansive level.

However, I must constantly remind myself this, especially as getting engaged will just be one more layer that can distract me from being present to myself. Planning a wedding, sharing the story over and over, celebrating with people in my life – these will all be welcomed moments. But I cannot allow them to distract me from being fully in alignment to myself. Because I must always come first in order to be the best version I can to him.

I ramble though. I’m getting on a plane to the Caribbean in a few hours with a man who I love tremendously, and I know feels the same. It’s still a strange and surreal feeling that I only met him IRL six months ago, and yet here we are. It all feels like the most natural flow of events. And honestly, anything different would have felt forced.

You always hear that a couple should wait two years because that’s when they really know each other. Well, Covid has given us SUCH an opportunity. Spending ALL your time with someone really teaches you about them. We’ve been through so much together that I know him better than people I’ve dated for years. Then again, we both made it a priority to open our souls and share the deepest parts that no one else saw.

So here’s to being single to being engaged. Crazy how the universe always has you on the right course – and it’s our job to be okay with not knowing what is coming – because really, it’s always pretty fucking awesome.

How I Stayed Off Coffee (From A Former Coffee Addict)

Hi beauties!

I don’t know about you but I love my coffee. Er, well, loved. Past tense. In fact, when I would do my 5-Day Detox I would always struggle with not having it and would typically cave on day 3. I just could not seem to function without it, this was either a mental block or I was actually addicted to the caffeine – probably both. But then one day I just stopped and 10 months later I actually cannot stand the taste of it anymore. I know this is a challenge that a lot of people face and so I wanted to share how I stayed off coffee and some tips for you.

Coffee and caffeine

I’m not going to go into the science behind addiction, nor the actual pros and cons of coffee because there definitely are some benefits to it. Rather, I wanted to just share my personal experience with having it and why I was excited to come off.

I’ve been drinking coffee pretty much since I can remember. I used to have instant coffee with my parents as I went through my later years of high school, then swapped over to filtered coffee and then became the “coffee snob” and would only have a cappuccino. There’s very few days I can actually remember NOT having a cup of joe, be it in London and ordering from Pret to Starbucks in America, to the fancy coffee shops and getting upset if they burnt my milk, to getting on the Bulletproof bandwagon.

However, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized I was having hard crashes from the caffeine and couldn’t do my detox without having it at least one day. This all seemed normal as coffee is so such a part of our lives.

This past July I started feeling ‘off’ when I would have it. I still felt I needed it, but when I’d have it I couldn’t stand the taste of a black coffee, instead thinking it tasted like tar (not that I know what tar tastes like lol). It started affecting my nervous system as I was feeling a bit burnt out and getting adrenal fatigue.

And so I made the switch to matcha. The full change didn’t happen overnight as I like the caffeine buzz I got from coffee, one that is less than matcha. However, the more I started having matcha drinks, the more I loved the way it made me feel. So much so that I bought a milk frother and started making my own matcha lattes.

Why matcha

how-i-stayed-off-caffeine

Matcha is packed with antioxidants, helps to boost your metabolism, is rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins and helps to lower cholesterol and blood sugar. Now, I’m not saying that coffee doesn’t have some benefits, it does, but matcha has some pretty powerful studies done that help you understand the effect that the caffeine has on the body without causing any spikes. This is super important for anyone who feels they are go-go-go, as your adrenals are constantly working in overtime. Having high levels of caffeine can actually promote adrenal fatigue, not to mention sleepless nights if you have it too late.

The more I had my matcha lattes in the morning or slipped a tsp into a smoothie, the more I found I was sleeping better, had lasting energy throughout the day, and my skin actually got better.

I always tell clients that you want to CROWD IN, meaning you want to add nutrients in instead of just removing something cold turkey. That’s why matcha is such a great way to transition off of coffee as you still get caffeine but it affects your body differently, leaving you with the caffeine you want without the crash.

Importance of the right matcha

I’ve tried and tested many different brands over the past year and one of the crazy things I learned was that ‘matcha’ itself in the U.S. is not regulated and there are many ‘powered green teas’ that are not actually matcha. Therefore just about any brand can label it how it wants – this doesn’t mean they are all the same thing. It’s like buying a shirt from H&M versus a luxury brand. It looks the same and you might balk at the price difference, but one was made with quality over quantity, materials being sourced differently and how it’s made (factory workers vs not). This is the same for matcha.

I tried Mizuba Matcha and found that I loved this brand, not only because the matcha tastes amazing, but they work with small (and often family owned) matcha producers in Uji, Japan meaning they are importing high quality tea. Small note, when you’re looking for matcha powder it should be vibrant green and sealed properly in a can, not a bag to keep it from losing antioxidants.

This is a great article on why matcha is pricey – definitely worth the read.

In terms of recipes, I’m adding one from the Mizuba packaging they send when you order. It’s for the Matcha Soda and goodness gracious is it delicious! I actually never thought to add sparkling water. I also love doing an iced matcha latte which is my go-to in warmer months.

If you’re new to matcha or want to make the switch to a high quality one that is rich in antioxidants and better for your health (also knowing that you’re supporting local people in Japan and not just big corporations), I truly recommend Mizuba.

Use code SHARPMATCHA to get 15% off your entire order. I’d recommend getting the Matcha Moment Essentials Set.

I’d love to know your thoughts about coffee vs matcha and your favorite matcha recipe!

Xx,

Nikki

Relationship Course – The Ultimate Transformation

Hello my loves,

I have just come back from an incredible “staycation” with my boyfriend where we took some time to reconnect with one another after life just got very busy. It was such a blissful weekend filled with quality time, words of affirmation, and fun.

I’m sharing this because this is one of the topics that I teach about in my Relationship Course, which starts May 10.

My question to you is: have you lost the passion with your partner?

Often times we enter a relationship with chemistry and years later it goes away, leaving us feeling unfulfilled. Or, you may have never felt intimate chemistry (I’m not just talking about physical, rather the mental and emotional types!) with a partner.

Whichever situation you’re in, I’ll teach you how to spark the fire and connect deeply with your partner, leading to incredible intimacy that you’ve only dreamed of.

In my Relationship Course we go over topics such as:

Why you sabotage in relationships and how to fix itPutting an end to bad fights & learning how to deeply communicatePolarity and how the loss of it makes you lose passionManifesting your soulmate if you’re singleRekindling the passion between you and your partner; I.E. falling back in loveSetting boundaries and how to stop being a people pleaserAnd much, much more!

Spots are limited for this course and are filling up fast. It’s also the last time I will be doing it in person where you’ll have access to working directly with me for a fraction of the price.

CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE + JOIN

I also wanted to take a moment and answer some frequently asked questions:

If you’re in a relationship is this still good for you? ABSOLUTELY! All beautiful relationships start with you. That is the basis of this course and you will learn how to reignite the passion with your partner and how to show up as the best version of yourself to enhance the relationship. The majority of group members from the last program were married and they had astounding breakthroughs within their relationships.

Is this only about finding a soulmate? NO! What days/times are the calls? Monday’s rotating between 6pm est and 12pm est. This is to welcome people in all areas and time zones + work schedules. If I cannot make the calls live will they be recorded? Yes! I realize that life happens and we all live in different areas. The only thing I recommend is to make sure you finish the call each week before we move on as each session builds on the previous.

Is this for a certain age group? Nope 🙂 The last round had everyone from early 20’s in a relationship to 50+ both male and female, single and married and everything in between. No matter what your status is now or your goal, you will benefit from the teachings of this course.

What is included with the program? You get 6 calls with me (once a week), 2 bonus calls that will blow your mind, a private Facebook group that helps you dive deep into the HW each week and connect with others, weekly session notes + HW written by me, and resources to further your journey. The value of this course is WELL over $6,000 due to the content you’re receiving, daily time with me via the calls and Facebook group, bonus sessions, and everything else. You will literally not find this anywhere else of value for money.

What is different about this to other programs? I’ve studied with many different relationship experts throughout the years and none of them have put together a program like this. I found everyone to be very niche which made the courses miss big parts of relationships. This is so different as we go over all different aspects that hold you back from being in the best relationships possible. We will work on / heal your intimacy with a partner, increase attraction, deal with toxic people, you’ll learn how to set boundaries, and so much more. There is no other course that is this comprehensive where you get a 6-month transformation in 6 weeks. And, you get coaching sessions with me where I constantly over deliver to make sure you’re getting the most out of the course.

How much is the course? It’s $597 (early bird pricing). I know investing in yourself can be hard, however instead of getting caught up on the price (which is the LOWEST any of my exclusive group courses will be), think about the impact it will have in your life. If you are ready to meet your soulmate, or reignite the passion in your relationship now is the time. Not only that but you will truly fall in love with yourself in ways you never imagined possible – and THAT has a far longer impact that the money you put down.

Will this course benefit me if I’m already in love? Yes! This course is primarily about creating a beautiful relationship with YOURSELF. Once you learn how you act/react to situations and people and why you do the things you do, all of your relationships will improve. This program will help you to manage toxic people in your life, learning how to set boundaries and not be a people pleaser, understanding expectations and the danger of them, and much more! You’ll also discover tools on how to continuously improve your current relationship so that the love and passion lasts.

Girls Weekend In Miami

Hello my loves,

This past weekend I had my best friends from elementary school come visit me in Miami and boy was this an insanely fun time – a bit debaucherous if I might say so. I’ll share a bit about what we did along with recommendations as I’m always asked about what to do and where to eat while here (don’t worry though, I’ll do a proper “Miami” blog post soon). If you see something in bold, that is a recommendation of somewhere to go/see/eat.

I’ve known Ari since elementary school and Emily since high school and we’ve always called ourselves (well, we were labeled this first) as Charlie’s Angels. We all work in different fields and are all completely different personalities but it is the most amazing trio because we have grown with one another through the years.

The girls weekend begins

They both flew in Thursday and after a day of travel for Em and Ari, we chose to have a meal at home where I ordered uber eats from Real Food Cafe, along with adding some homemade things to the mix. We celebrated seeing each other with a bottle of champagne as they met my boyfriend, followed by wine and deep convo all night.

The next morning we started our day off with smoothies with frozen spinach, pineapple, chia seeds, avocado and Amazing Grass Protein Superfood powder in vanilla. This was actually our saving grace each morning as we were able to get something healthy into our bellies after a night of drinking and power up for a full day of activities. I’ve been using Amazing Grass products for years (since I actually started my health journey 9 years ago!) and cannot recommend them enough. What I love about this one is that it contains 7 alkalizing greens (helping to beat your hangover in our case!), 20g of protein + has 2 servings of fruits and veggies. While we mixed it into smoothies, you definitely can just have it with water which I normally do every day. Use code Nikki25 for 25% for your order!

After a light breakfast we headed to Soho House for some sunshine on the beach. We played in the water, had lunch then came home to get ready for dinner at my favorite spot Joia Beach Club. It’s this super cute little place that you definitely need a reservation for but totally worth it. A few cocktails later and full belly’s we came home and put on music, dancing in cozy outfits which was more fun than I am allowed to share 😉

On Saturday we decided to make brunch which consisted of the morning smoothie, croissants and a fresh baguette from a local place near me (sorry, cannot remember the name!) along with a quick trip to the store for essentials. It was a group effort with everyone helping out and we ended up with the most decadent meal that would have cost a fortune out, but instead it was all organic and homemade foods. Delicious doesn’t even describe it. With super full belly’s and a small hangover we all decided to take a little siesta before heading to the The Cat’s Meow (cat cafe) here in Miami to play with kitties you can adopt. And no, I didn’t go home with one that day.

girls-weekend-in-miami-nikki-sharp

Post kitties, we headed to the Design District which is an outdoor mall where you can visit the super fancy shops. I stopped into Christian Louboutin to get a pair of So Kate’s which I’ve wanted forever, although now that I’m home I’m debating taking them back as they are almost too tall to wear lol.

As we were driving around and deciding what to do we had a GREAT idea – what about a cabaret show. Enter: Faena Theater. We chose to surprise my boyfriend, not telling him where we were going, only that he needed to be ready by 6.45pm. The show was AMAZING and I highly, highly recommend it if you’re in town. They actually pulled me up on stage where normally I don’t get stage fright (ever), but this was different as it wasn’t me speaking, only answering a very personal question. I’ll leave it to you to go to the show and find out what it was 🙂

girls-weekend-in-miami-nikki-sharp

After dinner we headed to Faena’s bar called Los Fuegos, another place you must visit if here. There was a live performance with a guy who looked and sounded like Michael Buble and with an entirely full bar + restaurant it was a VIBE. Ari is an incredible dancer and while I’m not the best I just have fun doing it, so we went to where we was performing in the front of the room and danced, pretty much putting on a show for everyone. It was funny because from the cabaret performance to dancing it looked like our group was hired by the hotel because we were cheering, engaging and making everyone else have a good time.

On Sunday we lounged around, once again having our smoothies and lounging around then getting ready for South Beach and South Pointe. There is a beautiful park prior to getting to the beach that I highly recommend walking through, then of course people watching at the famous beach. We sat with a bottle of rose wine catching up on stories, playing in the waves and just enjoying girl time.

That night we met back up with my boyfriend and headed to Shido Miami, the vegan sushi place I’m always sharing on stories. They got to have the “Nikki Experience” which sadly for the moment is only available if you go with me; but if you are interested you can DM me on instagram and I can set it up for you. Chef Manuel is incredibly talented and always tests out new vegan recipes when I come; divinely doesn’t even cut it.

Sadly they both had to leave on Monday but suffice to say this was one hell of a girls weekend.

There was far more drinking than any of us thought would happen, but then again, after being locked away at home without travel (for them more so) and not seeing friends, this kind of seems natural. The main thing was we balanced our fun nights out with lots of sleep, even more water, sunshine, sunscreen, great food, deep conversations and really nourishing girl time.

I don’t share a lot of my personal life but I wanted to give you an inside look into this weekend because of all the fun places we went and because I just had too much fun not to! I do hope you enjoyed reading this and seeing all the fun photos!

I’d love to know – where is the first place you want to travel once you’re able to travel without restrictions?

Tons of love,

Nikki

Healing Candida Naturally

Hello beautiful family!

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on the blog, sharing my thoughts with you all – and the interesting thing is that anytime I am “gone” for prolonged periods of time I always find it hard to get back into it. However, today is the day my loves! And that is because this is a topic that I have been asked lots of questions about and realized my IG post wasn’t quite enough space to write all that I wanted to.

As you can tell from the title, we are talking about candida and healing candida naturally

It seems like a many of you have it or think that you do. What I can say is that while we were busy before Covid with the go-go-go of life, it appears that staying home with the ever-changing rules is absolutely getting to people. I definitely have battled weight gain, drinking too much during quarantine, and then yay, candida. I point this out that if you are going through this or anything else with your body, just know that you are NOT alone. We are all doing the best we can and the body is smart. It holds onto emotion and stores our pain in our body, even if we are not aware.

The blessing of this though, is that it is actually the universe’s way of delivering messages to us. Tricky yet sometimes (okay, always) necessary. Well played Universe, well played.

Preface about my candida

In 2017 I wrote about having candida and was really nervous to share it. I judged myself (hard) because I thought that if I’m the health expect giving you all tips, how could I possibly be going through something like this myself. I was ashamed for so long which only made it worse. Sharing it definitely helped as I learned that a lot of others had as well. The funny part is that although I was scared to tell you all, I actually felt closer to this community.

In the end I did heal the candida, only it took a LOT longer than I would have liked. I share what I did in this blog post and so many of the tips I will share today I did already mention. However, I’ve learned so much more since then and am actually quite excited to write about it this time. Amazing how time can help us not only heal your heart, body, and mind…but it can also help us to truly accept who we are and show up with more love for ourselves.

Candida…again?!

As mentioned above, we have all gone through something during this year-long drastic change in the world. I personally have moved 3x during quarantine, started a new job and left because of the toxic nature of it, pushed myself harder than ever in business, dealt with some traumatic relationship drama, fell in love, became happier and more fulfilled then ever. AND… because I have not been able to travel as much as I used to, I was forced to deal with some inner work that I really didn’t want to.

There’s been good things, hard moments, incredible ones, and blessings from the Universe through it all.

So it was a bit of a shock that I got candida at a moment when my life was actually GREAT. I am healthier than I’ve been in a while, super fulfilled, in a wonderful relationship and honestly couldn’t be happier. But there is always something the universe has in store for us to learn. (Yay, lol.)

How I got candida this time around was when I was in the Caribbean with a private client over the holidays I got a yeast infection. I took monestat which seemed to work. Only I got a UTI right afterwards which didn’t seem to go away. Cut to going to the doctor, taking antibiotics for it + a round of diflucan for yeast that was still present, the UTI was still bothering me. Another round of even stronger antibiotics and I’d now been on 3 types in one month. Not good.

I actually haven’t taken anything that strong in a very, very long time so I just listened to the doctors, forgetting that antibiotics literally kill your gut flora and can cause a whole range of great (being sarcastic) side effects. Yes, they absolutely can work and I’m not bashing the medical industry. Rather, taking this many didn’t heal my UTI or yeast infections and only seemed to make my symptoms prolonged.

In the photo above you can see the bloating I had would happen the second I would even take a sip of water. This is a side effect of antibiotics.

I was losing hope…

I was losing my mind and hope. Each passing day I would feel less energetic, frustrated, crying because I didn’t know what to do. I was bloated all the time which was so beyond uncomfortable, not to mention the fatigue + UTI symptoms still being present.

I started taking tons of natural supplements for healing the gut microflora which did help a tiny bit. It wasn’t until I was on a call with a group of women (click here to check it out) where I listened to an ER doctor who also specializes in herbs that stated she had gone through the same thing as me and some additional supplements to combat the candida. Oh shit… Candida. Why didn’t it click before?!

Once I realized that it was candida everything made sense. I definitely had a sense of peace knowing what it was and equal frustration because I know how frustrating it can be to get rid of it.

The supplements I ordered right after that call are pictured below. (I also started a prebiotic which is not pictured.) I’m not going to go into they ‘why’ for all of them as you can research them but I’m linking all of them HERE to buy.

healing-candida-naturally-nikki-sharp

healing-candida-naturally-nikki-sharp healing-candida-naturally-nikki-sharp

The other thing I started to do was be a bit more careful with my diet. Now, you might be wondering what this means as I teach health and therefore must eat super healthy, right? Yes and no. I’ve really learned how to have a balanced diet. 90% is plant based with colorful, nutrient-dense foods. Do I still drink alcohol, have pasta, bread and cheese? Absolutely.

When you have candida you are supposed to go on the incredibly strict Candida Diet, which I chose not to do when I had it years ago due to me feeling my eating disorders would get triggered. I am also a believer that anytime you do something too strict, when you come off it, this can cause the body to go the complete opposite way. This time around I also chose not to do it.

For those wondering, the Candida diet is mainly protein based (think of paleo) with almost no fruit, lots of eggs, meat, chicken, fish, and tons of vegetables. Now, for someone who is mainly vegan, this doesn’t work too well. I LOVE my grains, black beans, and all things of that nature. But I did get a bit more conscious of what I was eating, meaning I skipped all fruit for a week, had no carbs such as pasta/bread, ate very clean plant-based. I swapped from wine to vodka + soda if I wanted a drink.

Lessons from getting it again

The biggest thing I learned this time around was that this was actually SUCH a gift. It’s interesting reading back on my old posts a few years ago because I can feel the shame and judgement I have around it. I realized how much pressure I put on myself to be perfect for you all, which then only backfired on me because there is no such thing as perfection.

So what do I mean that this was a GIFT?

It helped me to slow down and really understand WHY I might have gotten candida in the first place, especially when things were going so well in my life. The more inner / deep spiritual work I do, the more things get uncovered for me to look at and this was another layer that I had been seeing but hadn’t quite given my full attention to.

Over the course of my career I’ve always had a tendency to go-go-go. I work hard as heck, I travel a ton, I show up as the best friend I can, I’m always there for people in my life. I am on IG and other social networks. I am busy. And yet, I was doing all of these things without putting much attention on myself, or that incredibly important deep self-care.

And so the gift of this was it really made me slow down because I was so damn tired all the time. I had no steam left in the engines. The cell phone battery had died. (All analogies to how I was feeling.) It helped me to see that I was overextending myself, keeping myself busy, and not listening to my own inner signals to be present with myself.

The moment I started noticing this it felt like a veil had been lifted. Suddenly I was able to acknowledge how overwhelmed I was. How tired I was. How I felt I was always busy but never working on the things that really gave me fulfillment.

With all that being said, I’ll drop a few bullet points of what I learned – hopefully these apply to your life too.

SLOW DOWN: when your body is telling you something is wrong, such as a headache, stomach ache, hair loss, weight gain, constipation, candida, etc… truly slow down to understand what is going onGET CURIOUS: whenever your body gives you these signals it’s an opportunity to look deeper into your life and understand what changes need to be made; don’t come at them with judgement or anger, instead be open to whatever lessons are coming to youPRIORITIZE HEALTH: this is oversimplified, but do what makes YOU feel better in your life; honor yourself and make the changes you know that your body is calling forHEALING TAKES TIME: we have been brought up in a society that we want immediate results now and guess what, just as your candida/ weight gain, etc. didn’t come overnight (it was built up from poor eating, stress, etc.), it won’t go away overnight. Be patient and honor yourself

Has my candida gone away fully? Not yet as I can tell when I have a slightly ‘naughty’ weekend my body reminds me it’s still there. But what a blessing to be able to listen to myself and work on the changes that need to happen to have a deeper mind, body, and soul connection.

I appreciate you reading this far! I know it was a longer post. If you have any questions about candida, the healing journey, or anything else, DROP IT BELOW!

xoxo,

Nikki

Valentine’s Day… which side are you on?

Hi my loves,

Valentines Day, which is around the corner, brings about feelings of love for some and irritation for others. Which camp are you in?

I used to hate V-Day. I thought it was a commercialized holiday and an excuse for people to show their love on one day only, rather than every other day of the year.

That was until I took a deep dive into myself and understood what was actually making me so angry about this one day. Now, I appreciate it as a day to celebrate love for MYSELF.

Yes, we can celebrate with our partner, but ultimately love starts with you.

Because how you show up for yourself is how you will show up for others.

The saying goes: how you do anything is how you do everything. And so if you are getting triggered about Valentines Day because you don’t have a special someone, or get angry that your partner doesn’t show/treat you the way you want on V-Day… it’s time to look in the mirror and ask yourself “where am I not showing up in my life for myself ?”

Let me help you learn to cultivate the best relationships of your life.

My RELATIONSHIP COURSE will dramatically change your life. You will learn how to set boundaries, why you constantly give/ say “yes” all the time and how changing this will drastically improve your life. You’ll discover ways to deal with toxic people in your life and how to mend/heal a broken heart when it comes to friends, family, or a partner.

If you have lost the magic with your partner or want to learn ways to spice up a current relationship, this program is for you.

You will discover your Love Languages, Attachment Style, and why fights happen with your partner + how to stop them in their tracks.

And best of all? You will gain so much self-confidence that you’re not longer triggered by external fights, people, or events.

Imagine waking up feeling sexy, confident, and knowing that you can handle any relationship challenge that comes your way. Let me tell you – it’s a pretty magical feeling to have this. And it’s totally possible. You will learn all the secrets in six weeks to help you live a life that inspires you beyond your wildest dreams.

Oh, and did I mention? For my single friends, you will learn to manifest your DREAM PARTNER and exactly who you need to be in order to call them into your life.

This is something I’m SUPER passionate about as I am living proof (along with every one of my clients that I’ve taught the Dream Binder to), that my methods work.

I’ve been teaching these methods to my private clients for years with INCREDIBLE success.

Don’t just take my word for this though:

“Working with Nikki was life changing. She strengthened my relationship with my children and my mother, and what I thought didn’t need any fixing, she even helped make my incredible relationship with husband even stronger and tighter than ever.” – Victoria M.

Whether your goal is to find your soulmate, spice up a current relationship, learn to love yourself, or how to set boundaries so you stop giving to everyone leaving yourself feeling drained… THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU.
