What color is your toothbrush?

Are you on the ‘new year, new you’ bandwagon? What are your resolutions? I actually adore this time of year as so many (myself included) aren’t just open to new ideas and a new us but are eager to try. I think an annual fresh burst of optimism and enthusiasm is a good and necessary thing. I believe this to be true regardless of our results.

That being said, I’m repeating my resolution from last year. No, I’m not repeating it because I failed. For the first time in quite a while, I followed th...

All things writerly holiday gift ideas

Yes, I am a writer. No, you won’t find the word ‘writerly’ in the dictionary. Language is always evolving and the word perfectly captures my meaning (as words are meant to do).

Anyway…

An old friend has become a new writer friend. He hasn’t found his publishing path, but he’s finished a novella and starting on a second book. I wanted to give him a gift to welcome him to the writers club and encourage him along his own way. Any writer’s path may be full of plot twists, disappointments, and fai...

Behind the scenes

Behind the scenes

[Double #CoverReveal and #Giveaway]

I have just posted the public reveal for the next two covers in my urban fantasy series – you can check out my author Facebook page for a chance to win ebook copies of all three books! Below though are the gorgeous results from the efforts of Braelynn Gibson (the young cover model) and Mary Hastings of Hastings Design Corp (the graphic designer).

As we always wish to be the case, the beauty here isn’t just skin (or cover) deep. While I’m...

Book review: Eve of Eridu

A quiet rebellion: All about Eve of Eridu

Have you read the book about the girl in the future? You know the one – she’s special, the government is corrupt, and she leads a rebellion? I bet this sounds familiar, right? Dystopian YA novels have been the thing for several years now. However, Eve of Eridu is a little different and that’s a good thing. Below is the 4 star review I left on Goodreads and Amazon, but I wanted to write a bit more here.

Eve of Eridu isn’t your typical d...

Some epic journeys start with a stumble.

Some epic journeys start with a stumble.

[aka one writer’s recipe for lemonade]

‘Some epic journeys start with a stumble’ is the tagline for Book 1 in my Rahki Chronicles series and for my author website. It doesn’t just apply to my characters though. If you’ve checked out previous blogs (Failure, Jack), you may already see where this post is going.

My mom shares a particular story from childhood – I’ll report an abbreviated version. She and my dad attended a parents/ teacher conference when...

Drabble: Yielding to love

As new drivers, we are taught that one driver must yield the right of way to another. Two objects can’t occupy the same space at the same time. Space and time are limited, but love is not.

Love is staying in one place because another needs you there. Love can occupy two places at once – two hearts beating together. Warmth. Comfort.

Love is giving your time to another. Is there work to be done? Yes, but it can wait. Companionship. Trust. Love.

Curl up here next to me, little ball of fur – time...

Guest post on the Dark Lord Journal

I’m very excited to share my guest post on the Dark Lord Journal blog with you.  First though, if you don’t follow the blog, you should!  Second, you can check the Dark Lord out on Twitter too (@darklordjournal)!

My post is titled The Gray Light of Villainy 101 – Relationships, and you can find it here.  To share a bit more on the subject, I must admit that I love villains!  There can be such complexity in darker characters which is lacking in the good guys sometimes.  This is a subject I’ve...

Cover reveal contest & secrets

Have you heard the quote that a writer isn’t a single person, but many people in one body/ mind? That could explain why I’m somewhat neurotic about sharing my writing (please, please read my book…um, no, don’t even look at my book…yes, I am a writer…no, I’m not the writer you are looking for, move along). However, all of me is united on this beautiful cover – I am absolutely giddy to share it!

Mary Hastings of Hastings Design Corp truly gave me a cover worth more than a thousand words (more...
