Semicolon

The semicolon tattoo trend is one of the few I support (I typically prefer uniquely personal ink).  The meaning is particularly important to me as a writer.

**Semicolon: The sentence could have ended, but the writer chose to keep writing.**

There are more chapters to write, my friends.  Stay strong and keep writing…write in a plot twist, a new character, a different setting.  Just keep writing.

Equal heroics for equal villainy

Feminism remains a hot button issue with a lot of media coverage, movements, and hashtags. Accusations, judgments, and insults run rampant in most discussions. Despite these things and the fact that I’m probably not the best feminist, I thought I might as well throw my two cents in too.

Let’s start with Loki, shall we? No, he isn’t a female character but stick with me. He’s technically a villain or anti-hero at the least. However, I adore him. I embrace his snark, jealousy, and vindictive nat...

Jack or master?

I’m definitely more of a jack of all trades, master of none type of person. My latest adventure is a beginner aerial silks class. I’ve only had one class, but I didn’t get (too) tangled in the silk or fall on my head – I consider that an auspicious beginning!

Being a Jack isn’t only about lacking mastery, it’s about experimenting. My personal list includes piano, softball, flute, art, tennis, skydiving, scuba diving, and belly dancing to name just a few. Some were pursued for years, others we...

Rain, rain, go away

This post is in response to https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/liquid/

Rain, rain, go away; come back another day.

My little neck of the woods in southwest Virginia has become a swamp land with the recent rains. The constant doom and gloom has made me appreciate the blue sky (or lack thereof) a great deal more. However, it’s not a sky picture I want to post about today.

Rain, rain, go away; come back another day.

I take lunch time walks whenever possible and often pause to captu...

Infectious

via Daily Prompt: Infect

We argue about the repercussions of vaccinations.  Priority patients, lines, and controversy accompany the annual and routine flu shots.  Countless books and movies focus on infections courtesy of monkeys, aliens, demons, and more.  We’ve even upgraded bacteria to super bacteria as though it’s a villain in a Marvel movie.  Thoughts of infections infect our very culture.

Fear is the actual contagion lurking inside these stories.

Panic spreads like a virus, but it requi...

Failure is certainly an option

[image error]To paraphrase one of my favorite sayings, ‘the difference between a master and a student is that the master has failed more times than the student has tried’. Continuing to try in the face of failure can be very difficult.

If you dream of becoming a writer then you know that failure is not just an option but virtually inevitable. While I’m not sure it’s true, I’ve heard JK Rowling was rejected by nine publishers before Harry Potter was published. Considering the brilliance of that series, y...

Welcome to the Rahki World!

My  name is Rennie St. James, and I am a writer!  It sounds like a confession and it is.  However, I know I’m not alone in this crazy writing community and I’m proud to be part of it.  The first book in my contemporary fantasy adventure series (the Rahki Chronicles) will be released September 2018.

So, what will this blog be about then?

First, let’s clarify one point: it’s pronounced rah’key!  Rahkis are a modern-day warriors with animal spirit guides.  The Tribes are closely linked to Gypsy...
