Fictional Best Friends

“All the time we spend together, all the sneaking around.  God, it suddenly seems to wrong.” -Monroe referring to his time with Nick (Grimm)

First, as an FYI, National Best Friends Day was June 8, 2019. I’m not sure if they include fictional besties but that is what this blog post is celebrating!

I recently posted my first fanfic piece in years, and it was for Good Omens (you can read it here). What I noticed was that the shows that inspire me to write have one thing in common – friendships....

5 Reasons To Start Reading #UrbanFantasy #TuesdayBookBlog

If you’re a #reader considering urban fantasy, you’ll want to check out this blog! I’m also giddy to report Rosie was kind enough to include my book (Azimuth, Rahki Chronicles #1) on her list of recommended reads!

Rosie Amber

What do you know about urban fantasy?

This is a genre that I’m currently enjoying, but admit that until I started reading it, I wasn’t quite sure what it meant!

Like most categories, fantasy has its share of sub-genres, such as alternate history, dark, fairytale, histor...

Summer Solstice Scavenger Hunt

I’m participating in the first annual Fantasy SciFi Readers Lounge Solstice Scavenger Hunt. Prizes include a $75 cash prize and 19 e-books so you’ll want to check the News page for how to enter. I’m also offering a special additional prize so keep reading for those details and the special Scavenger Hunt phrase you need!

First though, a couple definitions to help us all get on the same page:

Solstice – either of the two times in the year (summer or winter) when the sun reaches its highest or l...

Book Spotlight Review: No Rest for the Wicked

For my first book spotlight, I selected There’s No Rest for the Wicked by Phoebe Darqueling. In fact, I joined her blog tour and very much enjoyed her guest post on writing historical fiction. That post gave me a greater appreciation for the book too.

Here’s the official blurb:

Other people just think they’re “haunted by the past.” In Vi’s case, it’s true.

Clairvoyant Viola Thorne wants to forget about her days of grifting and running errands for ghosts. The problem? Playing it safe is dull....

Guest post: No Rest for the Wicked Blog Tour

It is my pleasure to share a guest post written by Phoebe Darqueling. I first ‘met’ Phoebe during an author takeover in the FB group Fantasy and Science Fiction Readers Lounge. She was an entertaining and informative host on a new genre for me (steampunk). I was so impressed I joined her blog tour for the release of No Rest for the Wicked!

I’ll be posting a review and book spotlight tomorrow so be sure to check that out. For now though, Phoebe has the stage and you can check out her post bel...

Awareness is exhausting.

I’ve trained in aikido (Japanese martial art) for over a decade. While I’ve yet to gain ninja-like skills, I love that I’m more aware now. Living in the moment may be trendy, but it’s also something I work to do. Instead of always planning and stressing, I try to breathe, move, and relax as I treasure each moment. I am much more aware of myself and my surroundings now…at least I always think I am.

Ahhh, comfort…is ignorance really bliss then?

I think I’m more aware, but perhaps I’ve been lul...

Sprinkling a bit of Magic Moon Dust

I was always the kid who was scared of the dark…now, I’m the adult who loves the moon and the night sky. With names like Super Blood Wolf Moon, it’s hard not to get excited, right?? Fortunately, my writing gives me the perfect excuse to research and then share information.

The moon plays an integral part in my series. The tagline for Book 2 is actually ‘A red moon means war.’ Both my Romani/ Gypsies clans and Rahki warrior Tribes have close connections to nature and that includes the moon....

Rahki Travel Tips #1

Rahki Travel Tips #1

First, you’re probably wondering what a ‘Rahki’ is, so let me tell you! Rahkis (pronounced rah’keys) are the fictional modern warriors in my fantasy series rather aptly named The Rahki Chronicles. You can find all kinds of book info on my site so I won’t bore you with those details. What you do need to know is that I used my real life travel to inspire the series. You should also know that this post isn’t about products but instead has a Rahki edge – think practical, logi...

What color is your toothbrush?

Are you on the ‘new year, new you’ bandwagon? What are your resolutions? I actually adore this time of year as so many (myself included) aren’t just open to new ideas and a new us but are eager to try. I think an annual fresh burst of optimism and enthusiasm is a good and necessary thing. I believe this to be true regardless of our results.

That being said, I’m repeating my resolution from last year. No, I’m not repeating it because I failed. For the first time in quite a while, I followed th...

All things writerly holiday gift ideas

Yes, I am a writer. No, you won’t find the word ‘writerly’ in the dictionary. Language is always evolving and the word perfectly captures my meaning (as words are meant to do).

Anyway…

An old friend has become a new writer friend. He hasn’t found his publishing path, but he’s finished a novella and starting on a second book. I wanted to give him a gift to welcome him to the writers club and encourage him along his own way. Any writer’s path may be full of plot twists, disappointments, and fai...
