Lesbian Dolphins?
Yup, that’s right. Thanks to Lee Winter who posted an article about bottlenose dolphins. Apparently, dolphins have a perfectly functioning clitoris that they “make use of in creative lesbian sex.” Now, of course, what I want to know, is exactly what is creative lesbian sex? I mean, I think I know what lesbian sex is after nearly forty years of having it, but the “creative” part has me extremely curious. Could I learn a thing or two from one of my favorite marine mammals? In addition to this, I wondered are there other species that have sex for reasons other than procreation? What the researchers found is that these dolphins had clitorises that were similar to the human clitoris. Thus, those pervy scientists decided to study the sexual behavior of dolphins presuming that since the dolphin clitoris was so similar to humans, they must feel pleasure. So what’s the creative part all about? Unfortunately, Dolphins don’t have hands, tongues, or sex toys laying on the bottom of the sea at the ready. No strap-ons for the playful mammals. Instead, they will use their snouts (good thing they have the perfect dildo shape) or flippers to stimulate one another. And…this is a very common occurrence between two females. It’s also common for dolphins to masturbate. You go, girls! Can you just imagine what a scientist studying dolphins says they do for a living…”Oh, I basically watch dolphin porn all day long.”

Dolphins are not the only animals that enjoy sex. In my research, we can also count Bonobos and other primates. Bonobos are specifically known for their same-sex encounters. I suppose that makes sense since they are close physiologically to humans. Then there are short-nosed fruit bats who engage in oral sex to prolong their intimate time. I wonder if their short noses are also used as dildos? Oral sex has been observed in not only primates and short-nosed bats, but spotted hyenas, goats, bears, and sheep as well. Researchers also seem to believe that many felines enjoy sex. For example, a female lion may have sex one hundred times a day and with multiple partners. That might suggest that sex is for more than procreation because surely it takes less than one hundred times to get pregnant. Finally, after 238 hours of watching Japanese macaques (adorable golden-haired monkeys), the researchers concluded that the monkeys were having orgasms. Now, how in the hell did they know that? It’s not like they could ask the monkeys, “Was it good for you? You know did you, uh…” I guess the increased heart rate and vaginal spasms were their proof.

Currently, I am co-writing a book set in the Caribbean. There are dolphins in the story and it is very tempting to add something about two female dolphins having sex. I’ll have to ask Ali Spooner what she thinks. It seems like I am always adding odd little tidbits to my books. Want to find out all the other weird facts I add to my novels, you know the drill, click one of the links below. Don’t forget that Disconnected goes live tomorrow!

What’s on the Horizon in 2022
Well, it’s a new year, but the same old shit is happening in the world. After two brutal years, the US is still facing a major threat to our democracy and COVID is alive and well in a new form: Omicron. But I’d rather look forward to what is on the horizon for me and my hopes for the US and the world.
The way the writing world generally works is that the books you write in one year, generally get published the following year. That is true for two of my novels: Disconnected (due to be released any day now) and Georgetown Glen-Queermunity Living At Its Finest. The third novel, I am writing with my pal, Ali Spooner and is currently titled, Trouble in Paradise. This is the fourth book in the Trophy Wives Series. And oh my goodness, are we having fun writing this. Technically we started writing this at the end of December, but the book won’t be finished until a little later this year. The date of publication is unknown since we haven’t even finished the book yet.

My wife and I had hoped to travel more once we retired, but with COVID, our options were limited. That hasn’t stopped us from going to Mexico several times a year and making several RV trips. This year won’t be much different. The end of January through most of February we travel again to Mexico for the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Weekend (Brandi Carlile and friends concert). In late April/early May we travel to North Carolina for a writer’s retreat. While we are on the east coast, we will be meeting up with family to distribute my father and mother’s ashes in Baltimore. Finally, we’ll be taking our RV to New Mexico in July for the GCLS conference. Along the way, we hope to visit my old stomping ground, Flagstaff, Arizona and other sights in the Southwest. Depending on what happens with the stupid virus, we may also travel to Palm Springs in October for the LCLC conference and then possibly Japan in November. We’ve wanted to travel to Japan for two years now with our dear friend, Kimiko, who owns our favorite sushi restaurant. If the virus ever calms down, we’ll get our chance.

So what’s my hope for the rest of the year? Things aren’t looking good for democracy. I hope the January 6th committee finds a way to stop the impending madness and provides the truth over “the big lie”. I pray congress throws that hail mary pass, and voting rights legislation, which is sorely needed, will pass. It would be nice if more people chose to vaccinate so we can finally get COVID under control. And finally, please let either the Senate or the House remain in democratic control because Goddess help us all if it doesn’t.

Until Ali prodded me into writing the 4th book with her, I honestly thought I was done writing. So…here’s the bottom line, I can keep writing only as long as ideas come my way and people want to purchase my books or good pals prod me. If you are so inclined to check out my work, I would be eternally grateful, and that might just keep me writing! I won’t list all the books on sale tomorrow by Affinity authors, because there are a ton, but please check out the MyLesfic.com site because there is going to be a mega sale this week! Oh, and check out my author interview at Relationships Are Complicated: https://www.relationshipsarecomplicated.com/author-interview-with-annette-mori/

2021 Wrap Up
The last two years have been hard. Some may even say sucky. But along with the bad, there was good. So…I’d like to present a balanced wrap-up of the year by listing my top five low points and highlights. Since I always like to end on a positive note, I’ll start with the low points in no particular order:
The January 6th Insurrection and attack on the US capital. While the attack itself was absolutely horrendous, the aftermath of multiple far right policticians attempting to re-write history and still insist that “the big lie” was absolute truth, is the thing that scares me the most. The new draconian anti-abortion law that took effect in Texas.Resurgance of the pandemic and subsequent further pain and death with two highly contagious mutations, Delta and Omicron. The loss of my father. The implementation of nefarious voting laws in various states intended to threaten our democracy and suppress votes, particularly votes from people of color.
Whew, great to dispense the bad news first, now onto my highlights for the year (again in no particular order):
We got a new President that isn’t a racist, sexist, homophobic, narcisistic autocrat. In the writing realm, three new books, three new short stories and two audibles went live this past year: Inspiration Takes a Vacation : An Epic Love Story , Sculpting Her Heart (in audible too), The Others , Rainstorm (part of the Lonestar II Collection), Nightmare on Pennsylvania Avenue (part of the Lady Grimm II Anthology), Donner Junior Saves the Day (stand alone Christmas Short) and Locked Inside (in audible). Whew, I’m tired just thinking about all the writing, editing and proofing I did in 2021.The rolling RV Book tour wasn’t a huge success regarding the sale of my books, but it was a ton of fun. I got to visit with many friends, make Facebook Live videos with respected authors (Ali Spooner, McGee Mathews, Patricia Evans, Denise Judge, D. Jackson Leigh, Lila Bruce, Darla Baker and RJ Samuel). Plus, this year’s cross the country trek presented very few problems after learning a lot more about our RV and the kind of tools and extra parts we should carry with us.Although my father’s passing was a sad event, I got to connect with family as we all gathered in Florida to be with him in his final days. Prior to that trip, my wife and I stayed with my Dad and got to take him out to eat and generally enjoyed our visit with him several months prior to his decline.Visiting with friends this past summer including an awesome time with our dear friends in Kentucky, Arkansas, South Carolina and Florida. Delicious food, drink and conversation at each stop.
Hopefully, 2022 will bring more opportunities to have fun with friends, time with family, and reintroduction of kindness, grace, and the ability to disagree without the excessive acrimony, violence, and other despicable behavior that is somehow become the norm. Feel free to check out all those stories that were published this past year…especially the one that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention, but has gotten good reviews, The Others. Look for a sale on this book early next year! Also, right around the corner will be my new release, Disconnected. Look for that in early January, maybe even tomorrow… Also don’t forget about the two sale books this week from S. Anne Gardner: Absolution and An Affair of Love.

Happy Holidays
I almost never say Merry Christmas in the month of December, except for on December 25th. This isn’t because I don’t respect this major Christian Holiday or because I don’t celebrate Christmas (even though I would characterize myself as agnostic bordering on atheist). No, the reason is that I choose to be more inclusive of all the other important holidays around the world that occur in December, including other Christian holidays. The lists below could have been a lot longer if I had included holidays around the world that occur in November and January. The point is that there are far more holidays than Christmas and would it kill us to send well wishes to everyone rather than being butt-hurt by a non-existent “woke” mentality? People are not canceling Christmas or snubbing that important holiday by saying Happy Holidays in the month of December, we are simply being more respectful and inclusive. I’m sure in my research that I’ve missed a few, so hopefully those around the world who know a lot more about the different December holidays can add to the lists or correct any misinformation I may have included. I love to learn!

Just for grins, let’s start with the list of other Christian holidays in December, in case you didn’t know or hear of all of them (I actually discovered a few more in my research).
December 6: Saint Nicolas Day is actually considered a Christian Holiday, honoring the birth of Saint Nicolas who is commonly known as Santa Claus.December 8: The Immaculate Conception, honoring Mary, Jesus’s mother. This is a holiday celebrated by Catholics.December 12: Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is also a Catholic holiday because the Catholics sure know how to celebrate. This one honors the reported appearance of the virgin Mary in Mexico City.December 13: St. Lucia’s Day is a holiday celebrated in Sweden, Norway and some parts of Finland honoring Saint Lucia, an early Christian martyr killed by the Romans.December 16 -24: Posadas Navidenas, a hispanic Christian holiday that celebrates Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.December 18: Simbang Gabi is a Filipino Catholic holiday celbrated with nine Masses leading up to Christmas.December 27: Feast of the Holy Family which is yet another Catholic holiday that celebrates Jesus, Mary and Joseph.December 28: Holy Innocents Day which honors the deaths of the children killed by King Herod who was trying to kill Jesus.December 31: Watch Night which is a Christian Holiday thanking God for the safety received all year.In addition to the above holidays, here is a list of non-Christian holidays in December.
November 28 – December 6: Hanukkah which is the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, celebrating the Maccabean revolt in Egypt. Eight candles are lit with a menorah to honor the holiday. The dates of this holiday change each year.December 8: Rohatsu (Bodhi Day) is a Buddhist holiday that celebrates Buddha’s decision and bow to sit under the Bodhi tree until he reached spiritual enlightenment.December 21: Winter Solstice, a Wiccan or Pagan holiday noting the time of the year when the earth is most inclined away from the sun. Pagans and Wicca believers will celebrate that event through Yule, in which believers also honor the rebirth of the sun.December 26: Zarathosht Diso (Death of Prophet Zarathustra) honoring the death of this Prophet who founded Zaroastrianism, one of the oldest monotheistic religions. This was a new one for me because I had never heard of this religion before.December 26- Jan 1: Kwanzaa is a holiday celebrating African culture and community.December 26: Boxing Day is celebrated in the UK, which was a day for off for servants who were given a Christmas box from their employer and a day off.December 31: Omisoka is the Japanese New Year. This is considered one of the most important holidays in Japanese culture.
Proof that I don’t disdain Christmas is that I’ve written several holiday stories and they all primarily revolve around Christmas. Granted, most have a Santa Clause or elf theme, versus focusing on the religious aspect of Christmas, but the stories are fun, and hopefully, you have a chance to check them out including my latest, Donner Junior Saves the Day, for the Christmas collection that Affinity does every year. You can also feel free to check out my other books by clicking one of the links below. Don’t forget about this week’s sales books from Goldie Finalist Renee Mackenzie: Flight and Nesting.

Viagra…
What? I’ll bet y’all have come to the conclusion that I finally lost every single marble I ever had with this topic, but I swear it has some relevance. What the hell does Viagra have to do with women, much less lesbians or women who love women? Wait for it…Apparently, there is a new study that suggests that Viagra can be used to combat dementia and alzheimers. Considering that I am at that age where this concerns me a great deal, I’ll have to eat those words from when I complained about receiving ads about Viagra, thinking WTF. However, I can still complain about those annoying ads for penis enlargement!

So…a study led by experts at the Cleveland Clinic, a very well respected clinic, found that those who used Sildenafil which is the drug in the brand name Viagra were 69% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. And it’s not like they only ran the clinical trial for a year or less. the study ran for six years. This was especially true for individuals with coronary artery disease, hypertension and type II diabetes, which other studies have shown present a greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Fascinating, huh? I suppose it’s a good thing that drug companies are so concerned about the fragile male ego and their limp dick.

Now, of course, I haven’t yet included this little factoid in a book, but you can be sure that I will probably find a way to do that in the future. It is simply too interesting not to. For those of you who want to know about other interesting research I’ve done and included in my books, feel free to click one of the links below! Don’t forget about this week’s sale books: Coming Home from Jen Silver and Playing with Matches from Lacey Schmidt.

A Blog About Nothing
If the Republican party can have a nothing platform, and Seinfield can be a show about nothing, why can’t I write a blog about nothing? To be fair, the Republican party has a lot to say about what they aren’t for or about (women’s rights, equal rights, democracy, voting rights, anti-discrimination, LGBTQ rights, critical race theory, reasonable gun legislation, and the list goes on).

I, too, have a lot to say about what I am not for. And that list is the exact opposite of the one above. But, let’s get back to nothing. I researched nothing for this blog. Yes, you can actually research nothing. At the very least there are several definitions of note. The one that caught my eye reminded me of a story my mother told about my father on their first date and how corny he was. So corny she almost did not go out with him a second time but felt sorry for him and capitulated. Here’s the story: As they were dancing, my father asked my mother if she wanted him to whisper sweet nothings in her ear and then proceeded to whisper, ”nothing, nothing, nothing.” I know y’all are just dying to know where the saying sweet nothings originated from. Apparently, within the Merriam Webster dictionary definition, the third entry is about light, playful or frivolous remarks and then noted a quote from Dickens which is where the saying sweet nothings came from. Here is the quote: “He … had the most insinuating way of saying impertinent nothings to his doting female admirers.” Fascinating, huh?

I’d like to think that my books are not about nothing, but y’all have the opportunity to discover that for yourselves. Simply click the links below to check this out. Don’t forget about the two sales books this week in MyLesfic: The Circle Dance by Goldie Finalist Jen Silver and Earthbound by Goldie Winner JM Dragon and Erin O’Reilly.

Masturbation
Yup…I am soooooo going there. Why? Because for some women we’ve been brainwashed to believe that this is not a good thing. So, I call bullshit and have researched the topic to back up my claims. A great article from Huffington Post cites 13 reasons why every woman should masturbate regularly. Here is a link to that article: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/reasons-women-should-masturbate_n_6172092
Unfortunately, other research talked about the cons which included feelings of guilt or self loathing after masturbation, particularly for women. This is because ”polite society” or religion has pounded stupid shit into women’s heads about how wrong this is for women, while generally accepting it as normal for men. No matter how much those negative messages have seeped into your thought processes on the topic…hopefully this blog will challenge you to evaluate those old messages.
So why is regular masturbation healthy? Here are some of the benefits (in no particular order):
A great stress relieverHelps with cramps during menstruationAllows us to be more comfortable with our bodies and what we like and don’t likeReleases the endorphins oxytocin and dopamine, which improve our moods-yup makes us happierHelps us sleep better-something that can become a challenge as you get olderIt can help improve your sex life by either shaking things up or by helping you know what you like best as you get to know your body and feel more comfortable about sex in general and can share that with your partnerIf you are between partners or just not having as much sex as you used to during the honeymoon stage, it keeps those parts healthy and elastic, increasing blood flowThere’s really cool gadgets out there to help…see previous blogs: https://annettemoriauthor.com/2017/02/18/good-good-good-good-vibrations/ or https://annettemoriauthor.com/2018/11/23/good-good-good-good-vibrations-revisited/My favorite reason listed was…there is no downside to masturbation and don’t forget…my other favorite reason…because it feels f@#&ing amazing (I swear…that is a reason listed in the article)
So, ladies…go for it! Use it or loose it! On occasion I will read sex scenes where the author incorporates masturbation into their scene and those are generally very hot sex scenes. I vaguely recall doing this on rare occasions in a few of my books. I am not sure which ones, so if you are interested, you know the drill, just click the links below to try to find which ones! Don’t forget about the sales books this week with MyLesfic.com both by award winning author JM Dragon, Circus and The Promise.

Aftercare is for Vanilla Sex, too!
I am absolutely loving the articles that I come across during my daily newsfeed perusal. Last week, my wife found a great one about winter vaginas. This week, I came across an article about the aftercare and why this is something those of us who tend to be more on the vanilla side could learn a thing or two from our sisters who prefer BDSM. Here is a link to the article: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/aftercare-bdsm-vanilla-sex_l_61958a0de4b0ae9a429b1eba

Now, this may seem like a no-brainer, especially for lesbians, because we aren’t likely no matter what kind of sex we prefer, to just roll over and fall asleep after good sex. Lesbians are all about connection. However, there are many times I read about those hot butches who prefer one-night stands and find a way to escape quickly after sex. This is a favorite trope…so perhaps this article will influence future portrayals of those stone butches. Because…those strong hot butches also pride themselves on making their partners sing their praise after really great sex. My guess is that would ensure the experience was fulfilling for both partners. Besides, aren’t butches all about taking care of their partners, even if the relationships are short-lived as is just for one night?

The bottom line is that regardless of whether you like your sex hard and fast, rough, or soft and slow, aftercare is an essential part of intimacy. According to the article, aftercare could be anything from making your partner a snack to cuddling and having an intimate conversation afterward. According to the article good sex requires intimacy and vulnerability. After sex, the oxytocin flows freely, creating intense emotions. Good aftercare will create the kind of safe space needed for the person to feel comfortable becoming vulnerable again with you or even someone else if it’s casual sex. Even if you never see the person again, aftercare is ultimately about respect. Thus regardless of how we portray those characters, flaws and all, it’s a good thing to make sure they show respect, even with their casual partners. I think I need to remember this when writing my sex scenes. Because no matter how hot the scene might be, many readers crave the development of intimacy and connection, which might be absent if one of them simply rolls over and falls asleep after sex.

I honestly don’t know if I’ve done this well or not. I might have to re-read a few of those sex scenes. Of course, I encourage all of you to check out any of my books to see how well I’ve done this in the past. You know the drill….just click the links below. Don’t forget about this week’s sale books with MyLesfic. My mentors are both featured with Erin O’Reilly’s iconic book, If I Were a Boy and JM Dragon’s awesome novel, Falling into Fate. Hopefully you’ve already had a chance to read my two holiday shorts, The Thanksgiving Baby Caper and Donner Junior Saves The Day (both have favorite characters from previous books).

Winter Vagina
This past week as I was sitting peacefully on the couch reading and playing my online Bingo games, my wife blurted that she knew what I should do for my next blog. After announcing the title of an article she was reading, I couldn’t agree more because I love talking about vaginas! Both of us scan the news every day, but apparently, I had missed this little gem from British Glamour. Here is the link to the article: https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/winter-vagina

In case you don’t want to read the article, I’ve distilled the important bits (pun intended) into four main points:
Like our skin and hair, our vaginas can dry out in the wintertime, but not because of the weather. The culprits are additional layers of clothing, hot baths, and cranking up the heat. This all wreaks havoc on the good vaginal microbiomes that keep our vaginas healthy and clean. Our vaginas have their own ecosystem. Damn, I might have to write a sci-fi book on that! Imagine a group of women scientists who shrink themselves and find their way to the vagina ecosystem…fighting the bad bacteria to save the vagina…This ecosystem with the vaginal micobiomes has a carefully regulated pH level. Kudos to that healthy bacteria that keeps our vaginas clean.Avoid being overly hygienic. Showering twice a day is not recommended because it might disrupt that ecosystem. Showers are also better that baths. I’ve always thought that because, um, yuk, sitting in dirty bath water…uh, duh!Discharge is normal…so stop thinking you have to give yourself a flush with a douche. It is no wonder the word douche is now synonymous with something bad! Only pay attention to your disharge if it changes color or there’s more of it (not counting when you are in the throes of passion and your partner has caused an increase in lubrication). Here’s my personal favorite…going commando in the winter is a good thing for your winter vagina. Yippee…I prefer commando, anyway. Gotta have a healthy vagina, afterall.
So there you have it…permission to go commando and other little hints about how to take care of your vagina in the winter. And…if your vagina does dry up a little in the winter, there’s always lube or more sex to get those secretions going! Don’t be surprised if some of this finds its way into a book. Want to see how many times my vagina research finds its way into my books, you know the drill, click the links below. Don’t forget about this week’s sale books are two from the great Erin O’Reilly, Fearless and Fractured. Also, the holidays are coming up soon and I have both a Thanksgiving short (The Thanksgiving Baby Caper) and Christmas short (Donner Junior Saves the Day) now available. As with most of my stories, they are a continuation of one of my full-length books.

Book Bans…Again
How is it possible that we’ve traveled so far down this path again? It’s 2021 for shit’s sake. Yet, here we are again with radicals sticking their nose into anything that causes discomfort. Those poor white people who are offended by the truth (sarcasm in case you didn’t recognize it). And…this isn’t just happening in one state or one rural community. You’d think that calls to ban Beloved, Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, would be a bridge too far. But, nope, not when we are in an era of racist, homophobic, misogynist, and violent rhetoric. This is not only tolerated but celebrated and encouraged.

As I did research on the most challenged books, most tended to fall into three categories: LGBTQ+, racism, and profane or sexual content (although Lolita, an absolutely horrid book with a definite pedophilia theme has not made the top ten list in several years). Certainly, the list of books banned or challenged changes every year, and Lolita has been challenged in the past, but lately, the books that seem to garner the most outrage are books dealing with racism, or LGBTQ+ issues. How dare authors present their truth or teachers teach a true and accurate representation of history? Sarcasm again…

Not that I am in favor of banning any book, but being forced to read Lolita in high school did not add anything to my education. Of course, it was assigned by a middle-aged man. I will never forget my disgust after reading this book. It would have gone to my do not finish pile rather quickly had I not been forced to read the entire book for class or suffer a poor grade.

On occasion, I used to see posts about libraries looking for YA LGBTQ+ books because they were sorely lacking and kids who wanted to see themselves represented in a book could not find many books to offer. Since many readers have characterized Locked Inside as YA, I’ve always answered the call and sent a signed copy. Now I wonder if those books are now being tossed, banned, or burned? And that makes me incredibly sad. It also makes me hesitant to send one of my books along in the future, which makes this even more depressing. It is the LGBTQ+ kids who will suffer the greatest. Unfortunately, these kids are more likely to take their own life because they don’t have the support, and now adults want to take away any book that reflects normalcy for them. I wonder when this pendulum will swing in the other direction because I’m not sure our country can endure much more of these knee-jerk reactions after finally seeing progress with social issues.

Want to read any of my books, which if ever found in a school library will not undoubtedly make it on the banned list? Simply click the links below. Don’t forget about Erica Lawson’s Chronicles of Ratha Book 1 and Book 2 that are on sale this week at MyLesfic.com.
