The Brooklyn Boys Club- Ellie Midwood

The Brooklyn Boys ClubThe Brooklyn Boys Club by Ellie Midwood

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Being a die hard fan of romance novels, I have read a plethora of books where the hero is nothing less than The Perfect Gentleman. He is kind, caring, sweet, humble and loving. But Ellie Midwood in her story, ‘The Brooklyn Boys Club’, has us focusing on the exact opposite of The Perfect Gentleman.

Renzo is what you call, an anti-hero.

And he is best one there is.

Having been raised to fend for himself, be tough, be a protector of those lucky enough to be his friends and make a name for himself, Renzo has grown up to be the one who loved taking life by the horns and driving it in whichever direction he sees fit.

More often than not, Renzo takes reckless and ruthless decisions where zero importance is given to the potentially dangerous outcomes. He is the epitome of an adrenaline junkie. Living the rush is his drug and he just wouldn’t go without it.

Ellie has penned down an account of the thrilling life Renzo led. She has done an absolutely marvelous job of using humor to guide her words. The stories, incidents and instances cracked me up, despite there being blood involved.

Renzo shows you how to party. Literally. There are sexy girls, brilliant music and gallons of liquor to keep his guests happy.

The Brooklyn Boys Club is a smooth and easy read, and keeps you engaged till the very last page. This is one book I will be popularizing as hard as I possibly can.

Second Chance to Live- Roscoe T. Kearns

My ratings: 4 out of 5.

The title of Rosco Kearns’s Second Chance to Live pretty much speaks for itself. The story revolves around two nameless (a clever decision there, Roscoe) individuals who share a sordid past, aimless present and foggy future. However when Fate intervenes and brings them together, the baggage of their pasts seems lighter than ever, the present bright and cheerful and future, full of lovely promises. Through a series of snaky twists and turns, we see the hero and heroine realize the true meaning of their existence on Earth. Time and again, the author has forced us to think about different lives being led by the same people in parallel universes. If in one life, you live the life of a loner, then in a an alternate universe you could be a party animal.

How many times have we stopped to think about the possible different paths that lay before us, promising to take us on two very different journeys, based on the decisions we take?

The author has beautifully explained the Paradox called ‘splitting’ which illustrates the phenomenon of every decision having two potential outcomes. Of course, out of those we can only select one. But the story here will make you ask yourself, ‘WHAT-IF’ I’d chosen the other option?

The writing is rich, compelling and strong. I especially like the steady pace at which the story moves. There is no rush to get to the end. Every moment deserves to be savored and relished before giving way to the next big revelation.

Long story short, It’s a job well done! I wouldn’t miss this thought-provoking novel guys!

Never Never: Part Two- Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Never Never: Part Two (Never Never, #2)Never Never: Part Two by Colleen Hoover

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Now that Colleen and Tarryn have served the main course to the 3 meal course they promised us, I’m happy to say that I’m befuddled by the excellent feast (To use Dumbledore’s words). Now, I’m waiting on dessert to be served. And from what I can gather, it s going to be one hell of a sweet and salty pavlova!

I’m so glad they decided to tell us this story in parts. As readers, it gives us ample time to connect with the characters, revel in their victory, grieve in their pain and feel every emotion with them.

Stories such as Never Never get me excited and frustrated in equal measures. I feel excited because I am a sucker for cliffhangers. I enjoy getting a kick out of last-chapters that are harbingers of greater things to come. That’s also why I feel frustrated. I mean, why the hell can’t we get the entire story in one go? Why be tortured and only fed little tidbits of information every now and then instead of swallowing down the whole chunk of information? But then, where would be the fun in swallowing without savoring? How will the importance of each tidbit be understood if we only focus on the bigger picture?

This is not about love- Carissa Ann Lynch

This Is Not About LoveThis Is Not About Love by Carissa Lynch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If there has ever been a book that has fully justified its title, then it is this one.

Why, you ask?

It’s because this book isn’t one of your everyday reads where the entire story revolves around the thirst for love. The kind of love that a man and a woman desire from each other. No, this book on the other hand is a curious little bundle of surprises. All you need to do is imagine a lengthy line of domino chips just waiting to be tipped over, where a surprise gets unveiled upon the collapse of each consecutive chip.

Underlying principle?

One seemingly unimportant action can cause disruption in its wake and ‘This is not about love’ has several lives that get affected when the actions of two persons, sets in motion a chain of events.

The more you explore this bundle, the more your faith in serendipity strengthens, and the more you realize that romantic love isn’t the only form of love that can bring joy and fulfillment.

Sometimes all you need is unconditional acceptance.

Sometimes all you need, is friendship .

It is said that the bond of friendship is of uncharacteristic strength. That’s probably because it has no demands, complaints or negotiations pulling it down.

Carissa Lynch has done a simple, compelling and noteworthy job of illustrating this very argument.

Her writing style is fraught with a fluidity that impels the readers to get caught up in the flow. Every chapter has been left at a cliff-hanger, eliminating any chance of putting the book down, even for the briefest of pauses. It is simple, clever and brilliant, all in one. A must read for those who crave to read books that lie outside of the mainstream drama.

I want to be enough.

I want to be enough.

Enough for you, enough for us.

Just like it used to be,

Before it became tough.

You loved my spirit, my passion, my smile,

The one you could spot, from across a mile.

There was pride in your stance, when you looked at me,

Warmth in your embrace , when you held me.

“Fly away with me.” I said,

Took my hand in yours with a nod, you did.

You were my biggest fan, my cheerleader,

That you were the only member of the squad, it mattered none.

Now bound to the two wheels on your metallic chair,

You do nothing but push me, push me away.

You don’t want to see me, my voice you can’t bear to hear.

I know what you’re doing, the why’s of your actions I understand.

You’re running out of power, out of strength, you’re running out of time.

My warmth makes you cold,

From my touch, you pull away.

You’re too far gone, even our memories are old and frayed.

Let me save you, let me, let me save,

Let me bring you comfort,

Your pain, allow me to eradicate.

Forcing me to leave, while you still can,

Is what I too, would have done.

But it solves nothing, though some guilt it may appease.

I want to be enough,

Enough for you, enough for us.

Just like it used to be,

Before it became tough.

Pluviophile- Aarohi Brar

From a refreshing drizzle to excruciating heat. And back.

From a refreshing drizzle to excruciating heat. And back.

Imagine a stifling hot day, where the sun doesn’t just beat down on your body, but also on your enthusiasm, your spirit. Now, imagine the relief that is brought down by a refreshing shower of cool rain.

All your agitation and distress get washed down the drain in this shower, the same time that your lowered spirits and suppressed laughter come barreling to the surface. That relief, that comfort, that joy, is what Juliet has always felt since she found Max.

Life has dealt her a good card. Max is all she has ever wanted, all she could have ever wanted.

What she has failed to realize is that no rain lasts forever, no matter how refreshing. And when it does, out comes the sun. With a vengeance. Although feeble after the brief period for which it lay low, it immediately resumes it’s journey where it ultimately gets to shine hotter than ever.

If there is no rain, there is no relief.

If there is no joy, there is no laughter.

And if there is no Max, there is no Juliet.

So, how is she to go on now that he is not there? Now that the eternity that he promised to love her for has been mercilessly reduced to a bare minimum?

She has lost him. Him, as well her love for the rain.

Now all alone, with just her memories of him, she trudges by, without really being involved in what they call, life.

That is until someone comes knocking on her door. Someone she has never met, but has a history with.

Starting over is never easy, but it is at least a little less difficult than being alone.

Should she act on her impulse and let this stranger in? Or should she close the door in his face, considering the role he has already played in her once bright and thriving life?

Infinity+One- Amy Harmon

Infinity + OneInfinity + One by Amy Harmon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sincere praise for this Amy Harmon book.

That’s right. You heard me.

It’s an Any Harmon book. Ergo:

It’s rich, it’s inspiring,

It’s different, it’s arousing,

Fraught with feelings, abyss deep

That threaten to unstopper the bottle where we our demons keep

Conquer yourself, and your destination you’ll reach

Is what this book you’ll find does teach

Math solves paradoxes, it gives solutions

Can it solve the paradox called love, does it incorporate emotions?

You’ll find yourself asking

Pick up this book and allow yourself to be immersed in this story. So many of your questions will be answered. Whether they be about math or life or shackles or freedom or

love

.
