Urgent: The Royals Need a Home!

All of us were shocked and saddened when we heard the news that Rose — the QM Rose of Rose and the Royals — passed away earlier this month. Rose and her kitties were blogging for many, many years. You can see their blog dates back to 2006. Back then, Emily was just two years old. Brutus and Marigold were just kittens, who arrived at Rose’s home on June 24, 2006 — which means their gotcha day is my birthday.

Emily is very pretty!

This is Emily

Rose was very close to many of the old time Cat Blogosphere members and in fact, Grace is the mother of Brutus and Marigold, and Audace and Ruse are their siblings. When another Cat Blogosphere member, Cathy, died a year and a half ago, she took in her cat Beau. Sadly, Beau became ill and died last May.

And now Rose is gone and Emily, Brutus and Marigold are desperately in need of a home. Can you help?

Marigold is also very pretty

These kitties are lucky to be alive. They were about to be put down when ML found out about Rose’s passing and intervened. Rose — the woman who cared enough about other cats in the blogosphere to adopt one when his owner died — had no family willing to take in these cats and, in fact, no one in her family to step up and make final arrangements (ML is helping with that instead).

Here is Brutus

Emily, Brutus and Marigold are all in rescue at the moment, but they need homes now! They are unhappy and confused and are taking Rose’s death very badly. Brutus (who Rose called her “heart”) is bonded to his sister, Marigold and they must be adopted out together. They are about seven years old. Emily is nine, and while it would be nice to keep the kitties together, she could go by herself to a home that would love a cow cat and that would be patient with her through her grieving process.

Marigold and Brutus are a bonded pair

Rose lived in Highland Park, NJ, and Emily, Brutus and Marigold are at a nearby shelter in Edison. Any one who can adopt, or help, can contact ML at mlgiggleman AT gmail DOT com, or see her blog post for more information.

Please spread the word and help these kitties find homes fast! No cat is happy at a shelter, and because these three are grieving, it is even worse for them.

Happy World Spay Day… and Commenthon!

Yes, I came home from being spayed and played myself to sleep!

World Spay Day is one of my favorite holidays! I think all humans who have unspayed or unneutered cats should get the day off so they can have them fixed! But until that day happens, there are a lot of places offering low cost spaying and neutering right now. The Humane Society’s Spay Day Portal can tell you more.

I am very happy that my human was responsible and got me spayed not long after she brought me home. I am healthier and happier because of it, and if I am not always the best companion now (says my annoyingly clingy human), can you imagine how bad it would be if I were going into heat every few weeks? But of course I know I am speaking to the already converted. You know all the thousand-and-one reasons to spay and neuter your pets — so let’s get to the important stuff: the commenthon!

For every comment you leave below, my human will donate 50 cents — up to $50 dollars — to Fixnation, an awesome Los Angeles-based organization that supports TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). They offer free spaying and neutering for feral cats, and low-cost spaying and neutering and a wellness clinic for low-income families. They do a lot more too — visit their website and check them out!

Are you on Facebook? Even better! If you have a photo of your female cat’s shaved belly after her spay surgery, please share it on my Facebook page. I will post it to my wall and every photo I get before midnight Pacific Time tonight (February 26) is worth a dollar for Fixnation! The photos are good for up to $25 — a possible total of $75 to be donated!

I will tell you the results on Thursday!

I Would Like to Thank the Academy… or Not

Did you see me accept my Academy Award last night?

I had a great speech!

What? They cut me out! Stupid Oscar humans.

Yes, My Blog DOES Have a New Look!

Coding and web design are human work!

You have probably noticed by now that my blog has a new look! I have been trying to get this done since last September; I blame my human for not working harder to find a designer. The thing is, this was not just a simple matter of creating a background, header and graphics. The navigation and whole framework of the blog had to be changed and updated, and a custom theme built. So I needed someone familiar with how WordPress works to do some heavy coding and lifting!

Importantly, I needed the new design to be “responsive.” That means, it self-creates its own version on a mobile device. So if you look at my blog on your smart phone, it should look something like this:

I think it looks pretty cool

Well, you won’t see me looking over it — you will just see the blog. There are still be some bugs (like missing or wrong forms for my Login and Join pages of my Fan Club). So you may continue to see some minor changes (for the better) happening.

Oh, and best of all, that awful slider on the homepage that confused everyone is gone for good! I never did like that thing.

In case you are wondering where my Contact, About, and Fan Club links are, they are at the very bottom of my righthand sidebar now.

Photo Hunt: Upper

So who do you think had the upper paw in yesterday’s fashion gaffe?

Who will be the first to give the Smacky Paw of Doom?

The answer:

I even let her have the prime floor heater spot

Neither of us! We made up as soon as my human took away that awful hoodie. Although it did take some good floor heater time for us to recover from the incident.

Friday Fashion Fail

I thought we had an agreement

Look what my human found on the sale rack at Petco. As you can see, I am not exactly thrilled.

I will NOT wear the hood!

This did not go on without a fight.

I could not even walk right in this thing

I was clearly unhappy wearing it, so…

I thought it looked pretty stupid on her too

She put it on Binga instead! It was more of a snug fit on her.

SOMEkitty is not happy!

I don’t think she appreciated my saying that!

Contrary to popular belief, she is NOT cute when she is mad!

Hey, can you blame me for laughing?

Feline Financial Expertise

I am ready to be your financial advisor!

Did you know we kitties are good at the stock market? It is true! There was even a study that proved it. It turns out that we cats are better at picking stocks than so-called financial experts!

Yes, I am actually reading it upside down - it makes more sense that way.

The study claims the cat was picking stocks randomly, which only shows how clueless researching humans are. We kitties actually give a lot of thought about which stocks to pick! The researchers just did not understand the cat’s highly scientific methods.

It's a good thing she only paper trades!

Binga and I have very different approaches to trading stocks. I don’t like her ideas much. She likes high flying stocks, but she spends too much time chasing them after they have already peaked. I prefer buying high-volume ETFs in sectors that are currently in favor, then selling them when the momentum starts to flag and other sectors rise in popularity. Yes, it is a conservative approach, but I like to keep my cat food money.

My human got a little depressed when she saw this chart.

Too bad my human does not listen to me. Look at this stock, Oracle (ORCL). She heard it was good, so she bought it. But she lost it when she did something called a “covered call” and it got called away! I could have told her she needed to be more careful selling calls against tech stocks. She made a few dollars, but nothing like what she could have if she had just held onto the stock without messing with it.

I would hire myself out as a financial advisor, but apparently they don’t give licenses to kitties, which is a sorry oversight, if you ask me.
