Read If You Subscribe to Me With Google Reader or Bloglovin’

I realize this is last minute and if you use Google Reader, you probably already know Google is discontinuing it as of tomorrow, July 1. If you have been using Google Reader to subscribe to my blog, you will have to use something else. Lots of readers have been choosing Feedly.com and others have been choosing The Old Reader and Bloglovin’… but my blog seems to have some issues with Bloglovin’.

When you try to subscribe with my blog through Bloglovin’, it only lists http://www.sparklecat.com/diary, which is my diary, but not my advice columns, Sunday Catinees, and special articles like human training and rescue posts! So I worry that if you subscribe to my blog with Bloglovin’, you’ll be missing out on some of the best stuff I have here! I do have an email in to Bloglovin’ and I hope they will fix this. But for now, you might want to look at my blog with another reader, or come here directly to make sure you are getting all my posts if you have chosen Bloglovin’ as your replacement for Google Reader.

Caturday Flashback: Before Cat World Domination Day

Before Cat World Domination Day, my birthdays were fun but way more ordinary. Take my seventh birthday in 2009, for example. My human just showed up with two presents. No cake and not even any treats!

Of course some things have always been the same.

The smaller present was Da Bird — my very first one ever! Which is kind of criminal, considering that I was seven.

But I started making up for lost time immediately.

The larger present was supposed to be a Kitty Pirate Ship, but it just looked like a big messy pile of plastic.

When I saw the instructions I did not hold out much hope.

But much to my surprise, my human actually put it together without messing it up or ruining it!

It was actually a pretty cool birthday, even without all the fancy stuff. And we still have the Kitty Pirate Ship — you can see it in the background of a lot of photographs! Boodie uses it most, even though she talks more like a space alien than a pirate.

Our New Food Bowls!

My human saw these awesome kitty serving bowls on a blog post from my pals at A Tonk’s Tail — and she actually ordered them! It is about time we had some nice looking bowls.

Binga is already wondering where the food is.

Oddly enough, however, they are all different sizes. Maybe that is because the cats here are all different sizes! And I imagine the smallest bowl is for treats. Binga says she has dibs on the big bowl. We shall see about that.

Wait a minute! You mean they are not kitty serving bowls?

A Tortie Guide to World Domination

There is regular Cat World Domination, and then there is… Tortie Cat World Domination! Like with everything else they do, tortoiseshell cats take it a step farther. And look no further than Binga to have her very own set of rules. Here they are:

1a. If somebody disagrees with you, whap them.

1b. If somebody has more food than you, whap them.

1c. If somebody looks at you funny, whap them.

1d. When in doubt, whap them.

2. Make sure you get all the treats.

3. When humans are eating, you get some too. If they are reluctant to give you your fair share, walk right up to the plate and demand it. “Demand” means “take.”

4. Extreme purring is not a gift; payment is expected.

5. Petting is allowed and accepted gratefully, but tummy petting shall be punished.

6. Everything in the house, including the bed, all the food (human and feline), the dog and the humans belong to the tortoiseshell cat.

7. Bite when extremely annoyed.

8. Strangers are invited to worship. Or else.

9. Everyone is dirty and needs to be licked clean.

10. Tortoiseshell cats shall never be denied.

For Skeezix

For the first few years I was blogging, I was sort of doing it in a vacuum, and not really aware of the other cats out there. In 2007 or 2008, when I finally discovered the Cat Blogosphere and joined Twitter, one of the first cats I got to know was Skeezix. I mean, how could you not know Skeezix?

Although Skeezix and I were never close buddies, I respected him a lot for his many accomplishments. Our humans met eventually and have hung out together at various conferences. So when Skeezix was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor some weeks ago, we were devastated over here. This has been one of the Cat Blogosphere’s saddest losses.

In honor of Skeezix, many of his friends have banded together to make a donation in his memory to a shelter or rescue that his family chooses. If you would like to give something to this, you can do so by clicking below:

Real Life Proof That We Cats Have Achieved World Domination

Thank you so much for all of yesterday’s birthday wishes… but what pleased me even more was how much everyone embraced Cat World Domination Day! As most of us know, we cats have dominated the world for a long time now (some would argue that with a break here and there, we have been in charge since ancient Egyptian times), but yesterday proved that we are owning this truth.

Want more proof? I present the following:

Tardar Sauce, our very own Grumpy Cat, has signed a movie deal.

Cats are running for public office in ever-increasing numbers. The latest is Morris, a black-and-white kitty who is running for mayor of the Mexican City of Xalapa. I am looking forward to 2014, a semi-big election year for the U.S. I expect to see several new feline members in the House of Representatives.

Have you noticed that there is a TV show called My Cat From Hell and books with titles like Outsmarting Cats , but then you take a look at them and realize they are all about changing human behavior?

Cat video festivals are spreading like crazy! So far this year Boston, Memphis and Austin have all had them. There were two in California. Minneapolis is having its second one in August. There is even a cat video awards show — the Friskies!
