One of the projects we gave the boys during isolation
is a serialized story. They write a little bit of their story each day
(and add whatever illustrations they want) and at the end of all this,
they’ll type the whole thing out.
Both chose to write a horror story.

About a decade ago, I salvaged a broken acoustic guitar from our frat house neighbor’s trash. The bridge was ripped off. So, I repaired the wood and thought maybe someday I’d paint it and hang it on the wall or something.
Because of the recent social distancing/self-isolation fuckery, I found myself in need of a project. So, I dug out that old acoustic and got to work.

(That last pic is of the drying coat of varnish.)
Of course, the downside is now I want to make it playable because… I mean LOOK AT IT! IT’S AWESOME!
But, since the wood where the bridge/saddle should be is now essentially a sanded layer of wood putty, I’m not sure it could take the pressure and string tension of a reglued set-up. (Anyway, I don’t have the tools or knowhow to do it myself and having a pro do it is fucking expensive.)
So, I’m looking at trapeze tailpieces and, because the neck is so low, some low-ass bridges. Who knows? Maybe it’ll never be playable, but damn it I’m gonna try.

My wife and I were bored and decided to make a pie because neither of us had ever baked one before. Halfway through the process, we each simultaneously confessed to the other that we don’t really like pie.
By then it was too late to turn back, so we ended up with a pie no one would eat.

Despite our mutual dislike of the dessert, we decided to try it anyway.

Now, my wife and I are officially pie fans.

Why are you like this dog?
If anyone ever asks me what Bull Terriers are like I will show them this video
*Begins to go down the stairs*
Dog brain: Wait. I have a better idea.
*Goes back up the stairs and takes a running leap from the top*
Darius is half bull terrier, this explains SO MUCH about him.
1. We had a dog that was afraid of stairs. He would go up them in huge leaps, but go down super timidly. He never attempted this particular technique.
2. My boys and I have been laughing at this for about 10 straight minutes.
We had to get out of the house today. So, we went for a walk through the hills.

Humans are good. Humanity sucks.
The good news is, on a moment-to-moment basis, you deal with humans, not humanity.
So, go ahead, love your fellow humans.
And tell humanity to go fuck itself with a Nokia 3310.

What's your opinion on giving kids allowances? I've heard about different methods and all the benefits and drawbacks, but I was curious to get your perspective too since it seems to be a fairly complicated topic.
I don’t really have an opinion. I don’t know the best way to deal with allowances or if they’re good or bad, so I’ll just tell you how we deal with it.
We have a list of weekly chores for the boys. When I have my wits about me, I put them on a chalkboard next to our living room, so they can see them every day… but, I rarely have my wits about me.
Some of those chores are mandatory, some are optional. The optional ones pay either 50¢ or $1, depending on how hard they are. So, it’s up to the boys how much they get each week.
Related: I mentioned the boys had each done some acting. They each earned a nice chunk of money for their gigs, so we opened a Coogan account for each of them. (For those not in “the biz,” a Coogan account is a special trust account for child performers.) We encourage them to put whatever money they earn in their account. They almost never do, but we keep trying anyway.
