To NaNoWriMo or not to NaNoWriMo
Let’s talk about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). For those who don’t know, please remove yourself from the rock you’ve been living under.
Good.
Isn’t this better?
Wait, don’t go back yet.
NaNoWriMo is where anyone can participate in the month of November and try to write a novel in a month, or at least 50,000+ words. For more information you can check out their site and get all the details.
I’ve written aboutNaNoWriMo in the past, and just like last year I’m not sure if I plan on pa...

Starting the novel
Some writers would argue that the worst part of writing is starting. Even Stephen King says that.
I have to agree. That blank page waiting for words is an intimidating bastard. Even with the few words I have written here I’m finding it hard to not scrap the whole thing and move onto something else with my day. But, I’m not going to do that.
*fidgets in seat
*drinks coffee
*thinks about something else
*decides to get back to writing a blog post
One reason for not starting is that the world is...

Fictional Universe Anyone?
I’m a fan of series fiction. What I mean is that I like the idea of having characters I can invest in and get to know over the course of several books, movies, episodes, and so on.
You already know who Dan from accounting is and how he fits into this world the author created. We understand how he interacts with others, who is mom was, his habits, his flaws, and how he deals with it all while figuring out how to get through the latest obstacle forced upon him by the author.
I’m not here to tal...

Writing practices
Some authors have their own set way of “getting in the mood” when working on their craft. Some people need absolute silence while others blare heavy metal. Some writers are comfortable sitting in a coffee shop while others lock themselves in a basement closet whose only source of light is the computer screen. Some scribes mandate their desk set a certain way (pencil here, phone here, large receptacle of legalized speed here, and so on).
Regardless of the state of one’s workstation, another re...

The habits of writing.
Let’s talk about something important. A writer’s ability to turn out words and “get shit done.” Writing habits are a necessity especially if you have a day job, kids, imprisoned dragons in the basement, or other daily rituals/responsibilities that make you a productive member of society.
I have a regular job, kids, pets, and a barrage of after school activities each child has elected to be a part of, and time to write is rather small especially now since the new routine has yet to be establis...

Starting the School Year
So yes, I slacked off last week and didn’t write a damned word. There is no excuse even though it was a frantic week of gathering materials for the kids so they had everything they needed for school. I could be wrong, but I don’t remember having to have all that shit to get an education. Notebooks, pens, paper, maybe a kleenex travel packet, loose leaf paper, a calculator, protractor, and that’s probably it. Of course I wasn’t the one buying any of it so why would I remember, but damn. I know...

New blog post
I’ve stated here before that a friend of mine, and I, have started a blog together. We used to write letters to each other, on manual typewriters, in an attempt to keep in touch with each other as well as having a physical copy of who we were at that point in our life. The practice faded over time. Now we’ve gone on and started this blog https://whereitgoesblog.wordpress.com to recapture what we used to have.
Here’s the latest submission by me:https://whereitgoesblog.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/...

Rambling
There is a strange and confusing moment when I stop to think back on things accomplished and done. On one side of the spectrum I see the good I have done and on the other there is the lagging feeling that something more could have been done. I especially feel this way when thinking back to my writing because that’s what I really want to do. I would love to have no “day job” except to write. I’d love to lock myself away and hammer out whatever daily quota of word count I set before me. I’d lik...
