Flash Fiction – A Random Act of Kindness
Last weekend a friend and I met up for our yearly get together. It’s a tradition, the two of us meeting somewhere where we sit, discuss, and have a few beers. Over the past few years we’ve issued challenges. Have a chapter, short story, novel, whatever written for the meet. Last year’s challenge turned into “Frank Winston.” The year before that was the accomplishment of “The Price of Favors,” a novel I’m currently having beta read, and maybe self publish sometime in the future. This past week...

Preparing for November
So NaNoWriMo approaches, and I have put my name into the hat in hopes of forcing myself to get into a rhythm. I’ve slacked off lately in regards to writing and I hate it. I need goal, a deadline, something. It’s probably a residual affect from those years as a journalist. I signed up for a Camp NaNoWriMo, this past year without any success. I did get a few pages done, but this time I’m going in with an outline, of some sorts. It’s not a play by play, but it’s some sort flimsy structure of ide...

The Price of Favors – Chapter 3
It’s time for another chapter from “The Price of Favors.” If you missed the others you can check out Chapter 1 or Chapter 2 to catch up.
Chapter 3
He pulled his car into the usual parking space at the rear of the building taking notice of a black Lincoln Town Car as he placed his shifter into park. Mickey didn’t like surprises, or surprise visitors. He entered the bar through the back entrance and could see two men standing in his office through the Plexiglas window, one man stood holding som...

The Price of Favors – Chapter 2
I’m continuing to post chapters, up to five at least, onto the blog. Hope you enjoy.
Chapter 2
The Saint, one of many local bars, resides on Louisville Avenue a mile or so from Mickey’s Saloon, six blocks from the Ouachita River. The Irish Pub has been around for close to 20 years and developed a healthy amount of regular patrons from nearby residents and businesses. It was not uncommon to see said patrons returning to their cars early in the morning hours having walked home from the bar the...

What I have to offer
Writing a novel is hard. Don’t let anyone tell you different. It’s especially hard when you have a daytime job, a wife, kids, dogs, a house to work on, grass to mow, lawnmowers to fix, and so on makes finding time to write a constant battle. But, writing is also fun. It’s rewarding, and once the project is completed the feeling of accomplishment is one of great pleasure. Writing a novel takes a considerable amount of commitment to keep the world you build alive and the people living in that w...

A taste of what’s to come
Here is a little of the latest short story. I still don’t have a title for it, and I’m still in the process of editing. Please forgive any problems you may see.
Enjoy

The Beginning
“Tim, your place is going to be robbed tonight,” said the voice on the phone.
“What,” said Tim. He stood at the bar of his pub while Charlie, his head cook, walked through the door connecting the area behind the bar to the kitchen. “What do you mean my place is going to be robbed?”
“Just that,” said the voic...

(Yet to be titled)
Of all the post I’ve seen on various blogs the ones I don’t like are the ones that start off, “I haven’t been here in a while,” or some variation of that. So now I have some news.
Since my last post (groan), I’ve been busy with my day job, reading, taking care of kids, as well as finishing a short story. For anyone who knows me, or keep up with what I’m trying to accomplish with these short stories, know that they are related. Not so much as in a series sort of way, but more like the same fic...

Woo Hoo! Another chapter in a fictional universe.
Completing something is a hell of a feeling. Especially when it’s a story. For the past several weeks I’ve been working on a short story I plan on it being part of a series where certain characters make appearances. A couple of characters mentioned or in “Frank Winston” are in this tale. It’s kind of a nod to other writers who do this, as well as one of my favorite directors, Kevin Smith. Kevin started off with nothing and has made grown (figuratively, I’m not making any fat jokes here) throu...
