“ECHOES”

Sherrie Miranda:

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. It is a love poem, but it is also so much more. It reminded me of when my husband and I went to Santa Fe, New Mexico. And it reminded me that I want to return to that land touched by hand of God and ancient native people.

I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did! ;-)

Peace & love,

Sherrie

Finding My Soulmate/Learning What Love Really Is/Learning to Love Myself

My husband with one of his bands

My husband with one of his bands

I truly believe that “Everything happens for a reason” and although I put myself through a lot of hellish stuff when I was young, it is all that crazy “stuff” that finally got me to this point where I could marry a wonderful man who loves me with all his heart & soul DESPITE my imperfections, or maybe even BECAUSE of my imperfections.

I also believe in the Buddhist saying “The lesson will be repeated until it is learned.” At some point, I could no longer bare the aching sadness of being around broken people and trying to fix them, so I began visualizing myself writing my novel & I sent out a note to the universe for my perfect mate. An intuitive healer, who had helped me get out of a bad relationship years earlier, even told me that my mate was someone I already knew. I thought she was crazy! All the men I knew were broken and therefor, unable to love me since they didn’t love themselves.

But then one day, I was applying for a different position in the district I worked in and I ran into the two (yes, two! ;-)) letters of recommendation the man, who I am now married to, had written for me (so I could leave him!). The 2nd one he got everyone on my team to sign it & those letters got me several teaching jobs throughout Southern California. As I re-read those letters, I got a huge smile on my face, remembering how kind and generous this man was. I remember that I didn’t get involved with him because I didn’t want to break his heart!

To make a long story short, we started meeting up between our two cities and finally one night, I said something about moving back to San Diego and he said something about marrying me in Seattle. I almost fell through the floor. When I finally regained my composure, I asked him "Why Seattle?" He said "The light at night matches your eyes." That was it; I was his forever!

We were married eight months later. So . . . I finally have my soul mate. For a few years, I kept bringing up the idea of adopting a child and he kept saying he wanted me to have "our child." Just recently he told me his deceased mother kept telling him she didn't want to be a grandmother to someone else's child.

It worked out fine. I am very selfish with my time and my heart is easily broken. He is a teacher and a musician so he was short on time too. And now he is going to retire early so he can be a full-time musician. We both have a niece we are crazy about and they both have children so we have young people in our lives. Besides, my baby is my novel.

The one major lesson I had to learn was patience. Waiting 10 years to finally be with the man who I was meant to be with taught me a great deal: patience, perhaps being the most important lesson. You can't rush love. You have to wait to be in the right time & place. You have to love that person enough that their happiness comes before yours. And you have to have learned most of your life lessons & know where you stand in this world.

What we will do as we get older & need help in our day-to-day lives, we don't know, but neither do the people we know who have children. Besides, the parents usually don't like their adult children's solutions anyway.

When the time comes, we'll figure something out.

Peace to all,

Sherrie This pic is from my time in LA

Zoob’s Law

Sherrie Miranda:

I never heard of Zoob’s Law before, but I like it much better than Murphy’s law which says “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong.” I hate that one!

I always am trying to grow & learn. And I heave learned to take responsibility when I make a mistake. What I hate though is that many people will never admit they made a mistake. They will even try to blame the more enlightened person because we are always looking at how we can improve ourselves.

It’s all good! I keep growing and with growth comes more peace & happiness.

Thank you, Len! Oh, and nice to meet you! ;-)

I encourage everyone to find truth. We will never grow if we close our minds to truth. It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Many people are not ready to receive truth. We are all at different stages of learning. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

This brings up an interesting fact. Some people might be looking for a solution to a health problem or another concern they are having. When they are introduced to a solution they don’t recognize it as such, and easily discount the new concept as crazy or absurd.

I like Zoob’s Law. It goes like this, “Generally the non-informed can be expected to oppose whatever he does not understand, hiding his own ignorance by a degree of aggressive descent roughly equal to his ignorance. The greater the ignorance, the greater the…

Take My Hand

Sherrie Miranda:

Michael and I only met (through our blogs) a short time ago, but he has impressed me greatly in that time. This poem is gorgeous, especially for us “women of a certain age,” who feel like we have lost that special something.

This helps me understand why my husband loves me so much.

Michael, you are a true feminists! And I don’t bestow that title lightly!

And your wife … mate … or significant other is a very lucky lady.

Peace & blessings to you both!

Sherrie

I remember seeing you dance full of life in that green meadow filled with flowers, surrounded by mountains.

I see the tears that fall; I feel the pain that many bestowed on you.

Sometimes making you feel like a worn out welcome mat.

I hear your cries of wanting a new page.

As you look in the mirror, I see you worry that the fountain of youth has dried.

Though, the days have passed turning to months that turn to years

Know this!

You are more beautiful than the first day I saw you.

I gaze upon your inner strength that fills my soul more than you know.

Night has come, the gentle breeze of your hair as you lay your head down.

As I…

360 Degrees of Beauty – Santa Monica Mountains, CA

Sherrie Miranda:

It’s interesting. The time I lived in Santa Monica was one of the loneliest times in my life, yet as I look back on it, I have many precious memories: of my EL students at Venice High School, of the homeless people there (one who tried to convince me it was the ONLY way to live), my fellow teachers at VHS & the many people I meant on the boardwalk (which is no longer made of boards, but of cement).

I have many memories of walking to the ocean, almost always alone. I remember beautiful sunsets that for a change, I just tried to enjoy, rather than capturing it on film (most of the film & pics have been lost in all my wanderings anyway).

There was a woman named JoAnne who made this amazing paintings and for a few months while she stayed with friends, she let me have those paintings on my walls in my second apt. in Santa Monica. The walls were said when they had to leave.

Life is full of fleeting moments. And several of these, I hadn’t thought about for some time.

Thanks you, Xina, for the reminder! ;-)

If you can ignore the hideously high prices of real estate, food, gas, (and, well, everything else), the geographical disasters – mudslides, earthquakes, wildfires, droughts – and the occasional civil unrest (riots, shootings, muggings, oh my!) then the Los Angeles area has a lot to recommend it. The weather is famous with sunny skies and mild temperatures practically year round. And although the earthquakes are a nuisance sometimes, they do have nice side effects: gigantic mountains. If you’re a hiker like me, that’s a good thing.

Los Angeles also has its fair share of, shall we say, unique individuals. For example, a few months back, this made the news. Some overly muscled young men, one presumes, lugged a piano up to the top of a nearby hill. Witness:

Be a Good Reviewer.

Sherrie Miranda:

Since I am doing a lot of reviews myself lately, I am putting this up as a reminder. I am also trying (without much luck, so far) to get my readers to review my novel. They tell ME how much it affected them and how they loved the characters (especially the protagonist). They say they loved all the plot twists.

But despite all this great feedback, I can’t seem to get them to write the review!

One friend even offered to interview me. Since she doesn’t write articles for any newspaper or magazine, I told her the best thing she could do is write a short (2-3 sent.) review. She said she would try!

I suspect most people don’t write reviews because they think they have to look back at the book, take notes and write a long, thought-out review. I have learned to just write a few sentences about what I remember about HOW I FELT about the characters and the plot. Short is also better because the reviewer doesn’t want to give too much away.

So go on your merry way and remember: A very short review is waaay better than NO review! ;-)

Peace,

Sherrie

Sandals in October

Sherrie Miranda:

Eileen did her Book Salon after me at the Left Bridge Book Shop in Brockport this past Saturday. She describes in her books exactly what we were seeing as we drove around Upstate New York! ;-)

Sandals In October = From 2006

The sun is shining brightly this beautiful day, another gift from the Sun God. It is mid October and the past week has seen temperatures heading towards 70 degrees, the true example of an Indian Summer up here in Western New York.

I know the temperatures will be dropping today; the weather forecasters have delivered the somewhat solemn news. The digits will fall from 70 to 60 to 50 this evening, and I believe them. The skies are getting cloudy over the lake and the wind is picking up, the sure signs of oncoming cooler days and even colder weekends. It is time to plant the bulbs that have been calling to me from their bags under the kitchen chair, left there as a reminder so that I don’t forget to start digging before the frost hits. A neighbor mows his lawn for the…
