LDS Fiction: Out of the Box

Authors who are writing in the LDS fiction genre are often writing to a very specific target market. The plot and characters fall within that proverbial box of what is acceptable to LDS readers and what is marketable to LDS-specific readers.

Yesterday I received a review for Alma the Younger that I'm really excited to share . . . because it was written by a non-LDS reviewer. The review can be found on GoodReads, and is copied below as well.

More on the Israel Trip:

As I was loading pictures from my camera, I discovered that "someone" didn't do her full share of walking. Yes, we walked a lot and each day was filled to the brim . . . but STILL . . .

Israel--part 1

I went to Leruselem wen I waz 5 (Excerpt from my youngest daughter's journal--she turned 6 while in Israel)

We returned yesterday from a trip to Israel. I took my four kids with me (husband stayed home). My parents are there on a work assignment. They figure they've lived in the Middle East for a total of 7 years if they combined all of their work assignments over there.

One of the reasons I wanted to take my kids to Israel is for the experience it would give them of seeing another part of the ...

Jerusalem!

My kids: at Lazarus' Tomb in Bethany (Israel)

I finally figured out how to change Hebrew to English on Blogger, so now I can post.

I'm in Israel with my kids this week. Weather is hot! Will share tons more when I return. I'm faithfully keeping my journal, although Ammon has not seen the light of day.

Meanwhile, some great things have come in during my hiatus:

LDS Womens Podcast interviewed Josi Kilpack and I at the LDStorymakers Conference about our books, etc. HERE.

Thanks to JaNae Francis for...

Looking for Reviewers for Alma the Younger

It's that time again! I guess that's what happens when you have 2 books coming out within a couple of months of each other.

Most of you know I'll be going to Jerusalem in a few days, so I need to compile a list of reviewers in the next day or two before I leave. When I return, I'll mail out copies of Alma the Younger (no PDF's, but the actual book).

I'm looking for 15 blog reviewers who can post on their blog, and other locations such as DeseretBook.com, Seagullbook.com, Goodreads, and Amazon. ...

Far World is . . . BAAAACK!

Talk about a nail-biting year for my kids. Two years ago they fell in love with Far World: Water Keep. Then, last year, they eagerly waited for the release of Far World: Land Keep, which they loved just as much, and I loved even more, than the first book in the series. In fact, below, I'm copying a post about my 11 year old daughter's reaction. It's so fresh and just so "her" that I still laugh when I read it. Even though she is now 13, and looks 17, she has the same personality, and...
