Southwest Review News: Franken Presents Inver Grove Heights Veteran with Long-Overdue Service Medals On Memorial Day
U.S. Senator Al Franken congratulated 88-year-old Army veteran Jerry Grove of Inver Grove Heights on Memorial Day after presenting him with several long-overdue service medals at a special Ceremony in Franken's St. Paul office.

MPR: Klobuchar, Franken team up for job training aid for vets
Minnesota veterans will soon get more help with job training. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken announced Thursday that more than $800,000 in funds for Minnesota from the U.S. Department of Labor. The money will go to state and local homeless veterans and job readiness programs.

ECM Publishers: "Let's agree on what we agree on and get that done" — U.S. Sen. Al Franken
Change is coming from Washington D.C., change that will have an impact on every U.S. public school in the United States.
That was clear when Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education and Al Franken, one of Minnesota's U.S. Senators, spoke to several hundred Minnesotans last week. They were discussing school leadership and possible revisions in the federal "No Child Left Behind (NCLB)" law. Both were part of a panel at Daytons Bluff Elementary School in St. Paul.

Minnesota Democratic Senator Al Franken visited Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn. to learn about the efforts to improve mental health care and discuss accountable care organizations.
Sen. Franken met with Tom O'Connor, president of Mercy Hospital, Lori Wightman, president of Unity Hospital, Paul Goering, M.D., vice president of Allina Mental Health Services and other hospital leaders.

Pioneer Press: During St. Paul visit, U.S. education chief calls for overhaul of 'No Child Left Behind' law
Calling it an "impediment" to improving school performance, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan urged Congress to fast-track an overhaul of the No Child Left Behind law in a visit Tuesday to St. Paul.
"I'm feeling this tremendous sense of urgency," Duncan said during a stop at Dayton's Bluff Elementary. The new education law needs to be in place by the time schools start again in the fall, he said. "This can't be on Washington time."
