MN Progressive Project: Al Franken's thoughts on education

"The race to the middle is insane," stated Sen. Al Franken (DFL-MN).

I spoke to Al at Netroots Nation last Saturday. He was referring to the concept in education in which teachers ignore the highest scoring students on the standardized tests because they'll pass easily. Truth-out.org: "The Fight-Back Has Begun" to Reclaim the American Dream

An email the Campaign for America's Future sent to its supporters a few weeks ago with the subject line "How Would You Take Back The American Dream?" kicked off a lively debate on a listserv of progressive activists. What do you mean when you say "the American Dream?" How do you—and for that matter, why would you want to—"take back" something that so many Americans were often deliberately excluded from having in the first place?

Minnesota Independent: Franken: Education, fair taxes key to middle-class revitalization in America

In his keynote speech Saturday morning at the Netroots Nation conference in Minneapolis, Sen. Al Franken noted the growing income disparity between the middle class and the rich, a trend that began in the late-1970s. The Minnesota Independent sat down with Sen. Franken to get some thoughts on that disparity and how the American middle class might once again benefit from economic growth.

FireDogLake: Al Franken: "I Think We've Ceded Too Much Ground" In Deficit Debate

Sen. Al Franken will give a speech tomorrow at Netroots Nation about the need for progressive infrastructure as a firewall to protect the middle class. In this excerpt from tomorrow's speech, he is unsparing in even subtly questioning the patriotism of those who would threaten the survival of the middle class:

Wired: Franken's Location-Privacy Bill Would Close Mobile-Tracking 'Loopholes'

Not content to let Apple and Google continue to sort out their location-tracking policies on their own, Senator Al Franken (D-Minnesota) has introduced a new bill meant to "close current loopholes in federal law to ensure that consumers know what location information is being collected about them and allow them to decide if they want to share it."
