MPR: Franken tours north Minneapolis

U.S. Sen. Al Franken got his first taste of the damage caused by Sunday's tornado when he visited the area Friday.


Franken said he was impressed by the work already done to rebuild the neighborhood.

Star Tribune: Getting his due

Sen. Al Franken's St. Paul office was filled with laughter and pride on Monday as Jerry Grove finally received his due.


The 88-year-old U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War was presented with 10 service medals in a room packed with four generations of cheering family members and dozens of friends.

A day before he would have turned 100, the Senate on Thursday honored Minnesota's "Happy Warrior," Hubert H. Humphrey.


Humphrey was a political icon whose influence can still be felt today. Rep. Keith Ellison and Sen. Al Franken are among the politicians who love to quote Humphrey's famous phrase on the role of government: "It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped."

Worthington Daily Globe: Editorial: Water project hailed as priority

Several weeks ago, U.S. Sen. Al Franken asked specific questions about federal funding for projects similar to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System. Communities participating in Lewis & Clark have already paid their share of the project, Franken said, yet additional federal funding was in danger of being halted. Were other water projects seeing these local contributions go for naught?

Pioneer Press: Minnesota, Wisconsin senators propose new bill to build bridge over St. Croix

Sen. Al Franken today joined his fellow Minnesota Democrat, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and both Wisconsin senators in introducing a bill to authorize construction of a new bridge over the St. Croix River south of Stillwater.


Franken previously had not taken a stand on the bridge, saying he wanted to analyze the issue before weighing in.

Montevideo American-News: Sens. Klobuchar, Franken, Reps. Peterson, McCollum announce federal disaster declaration for 13 additional counties and Red Lake Nation

U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken (D-Minn.) and U.S. Reps. Collin Peterson and Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) announced that the major disaster declaration issued recently by President Obama has been expanded to 13 additional Minnesota counties, as well as the Red Lake Tribal Nation. The announcement will trigger federal resources to help these areas recover from major spring flooding.
