The Weekly Rune – Othala

For the week of 12 April 2015

Ehwaz continues to empower as the half-month rune though in a couple of days, Mannaz grounds that into some solid mindfulness. Add to the mix reflective Othala as the stave of the week, and we have ourselves a potent time of building.

Read right to left in the image is Ehwaz on top, Mannaz below, then Othala to the left.

Ehwaz remains the half-month rune through 14 April, at which Mannaz shifts to the fore. To learn more about the half-month rune’s influence and my work with the runes, visit Patreon. Find my runic artwork on Etsy.

Othala brings the interesting element of family dynamics to this shift toward action. It suggests that there may be unexpected family support for the time being, or possibly that there is ancestral support that can be found by delving into the family guardians. Largely interpreted as meaning ‘inheritance,’ there could be a component of acquiring a new level of elderhood in the family, be that financially, logistically, or literally.

There is also a protective aspect of Othala, not in the defensive light that Algiz or Tiwaz bring. Rather, it regards holding in mind the tasks that we undertake to preserve tribe, the idea of guarding what unique gifts our lineage brings to the planet. As we go into this week, the shift we greet asks us to leverage what we’ve learned over the last few months or birthing ourselves that will help us better manifest the gifts of that lineage.

Be open not only to what those gifts are, but to who may help manifest them, and how that exchange can come into being.

The Weekly Rune – Algiz

For the week of 5 April 2015

Ehwaz as the half-month rune continues to emphasize the need for an extra bit of umph, while Algiz offers up strategic defense.

Read right to left in the image is Ehwaz, followed by Algiz.

Ehwaz remains the half-month rune through 14 April. To learn more about the half-month rune’s influence and my work with the runes, visit Patreon. Find my runic artwork on Etsy.

“Shapeshifter,” featuring Algiz.

Meaning “horse” in its literal interpretation, Ehwaz brings all things indicating company, loyalty, and journey–both in the travel and ecstatic sense. The quality that brings all of these together is its connections to ritual.

In short, we put a lot of thought and energy into it. We create intention, and that’s what Ehwaz is telling us to do at this time. Clarify what it is that’s needed, perform the rituals needed to bring the etheric support for it to happen, then do it. None of the steps can be left out.

Algiz brings a level of comfort in accomplishing this, as it indicates protection. Specifically, as it has connections to indigenous grasses and elk, it means that through it we have the ability to take the feelings and protection of home everywhere we go.

This week brings both the need to focus intention and jump start a project or whatever has been on the heart, yet to do so realizing your limitations, and those who might not be so supportive of your needs. There’s a bit of reprieve at its heart, and a lot of merging the internal with the external.

The Weekly Rune – Hagalaz

For the week of 29 March 2015

This week begins with the shift from Berkano as the half-month rune, to Ehwaz. With its emphasis on purpose and that of our intuitive stave, Hagalaz, the suggestion of dramatic change in consciousness prevails, this week.

Read right to left in the image is Ehwaz, followed by Hagalaz.

Berkano remains the half-month rune through 30 March, at which point Ehwaz steps up, through 14 April. To learn more about the half-month rune’s influence and my work with the runes, visit Patreon. Find my runic artwork on Etsy.

Remember the green light we’ve been waiting for? This week is it.

The half-month cycle of Tiwaz to Berkano, now transitioning to Ehwaz, has led us on a journey from loss and survival, to restoration and now action. With Ehwaz we realize our ability to adapt. From a position of inner power we can see the leveled playing field of our lives, and make informed choices in how we move forward with intention. This is the point that we apply all the changes of the last few weeks.

Hagalaz indicates “hail,” and this stave is about deep transformation in perspective. Related to the eldest Norn, Urd, guardian of ‘that which was,’ it suggests a thing of the past becoming bygone. Most likely an ideal or view of how our purpose should manifest, this relic is quickly replaced with cutting edge insight. Think evolution. Think release of the past. Know improvement for the present.

This week packs a power punch in the ranks of subtle, yet intense movement. Breathe into it. Realize the work leading up to it is completed. Be guided the changed view of reality that best suits you at this time.

The Weekly Rune – Jera

For the week of 22 March 2015

How appropriate that after the closure of the last two weeks, Jera brings us a supportive time of accounting.

Berkano remains the half-month rune through 30 March. To learn more about the half-month rune’s influence and my other work with the runes, visit Patreon.

Read right to left in the image is Berkano, followed by Jera.

At the beginning of the month, the intensity of Tiwaz as the half-month rune combined with Ansuz reversed wrapped up passionate heart affairs. While it resulted in much-needed closure and blazed the trail into Berkano and gentler times, the aftermath of sorting through the debris and healing has taken a toll.

Runes Mosaic1

Jera helps cull how that should come to be. Known for its emphasis on taking inventory of the year’s events, this stave commands us to take notice of our process and to become active in it. I call it the rune of ‘hearth accounting,’ the maths of the things that matter on a mundane level.

One of the best things you can ever do for your spiritual wellbeing is to take care of the body, the space it inhabits, the relationships it engages, what it ingests. So often on our paths to soul healing, we forget to tend the form. In reality, we can’t tend the soul if its temple is in disrepair.

Allow inspiration this week. Let the stirrings of what can come into this new creative space to take root. This is the time of plotting and processing. For now, consider Jera a wishlist.

Perhaps part of the accounting done during this week with Jera is an expression of gratitude for Berkano’s care.

Peace to you.
