'KINGDOM COME': A Battle Royal For The Ages

Whew! That was my response after reading Justin Coogle's Christian Fantasy novel, Kingdom Come. It seems Vatican City, the Catholic Church, and Pope Quintus have a plan: Create teams of faithful Christian warriors called Demon Hunters (DH) to combat the growing threat of global demonic activity. Various teams reflect recognizable biblical names: Team Joshua, Team Samuel, Team Matthew, Team Mark, Team John, and the like. With awesome bows, blades, scythes, hammers, pistols, rifles, and armor,...

'COURAGE' on display in spades within Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel

The science fiction/fantasy novel Courage by Lauren Salisbury deserves praise for portrayals of that courage. Despite the point-of-view of seven different characters, the glue that holds the tale together comes from a brave mother-daughter relationship between Gilla and Mirami, respectively.

In the year 6428, humanity finds itself slaves to the Esarelians, a powerful and brutal race of aliens. Gilla, Mirami, and other humans live on Planet U'Du in various settlements and perform tasks accordin...

Not All The Dust Settles in BLUEBIRD, BLUEBIRD

The mystery/suspense novel Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke takes readers on the dusty back roads of East Texas and drops them off in the midst of a double homicide with racial overtones.

African-American Texas Ranger Darren Mathews leads the investigation. He probes and prods a cast of diverse black and white characters with longstanding grudges and horrible secrets.

Locke paints the landscape in all its rustic beauty and uses various turns of phrases in dialogue and narrative that probably...

What a page-turning read, will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Malcolm Hobbs, a police officer becomes incensed when during his wedding ceremony, an attempt is made on his life but his bride, the pastor, and several other attendees are killed.

From CBS’s Cold Case to Kick-Butt Cozies: Kellye Garrett Discusses Screenwriting and Black Women in the Mystery Genre

By: Jessica Strawser | March 19, 2018 Kellye Garrett’s writing experience is varied: She began her career as a magazine editor, spent eight years as a Hollywood screenwriter (with the CBS drama Cold Caseamong her credits) and is now a communications pro for a Manhattan-based media company. Her debut novel, the cozy mystery Hollywood Homicide, was a Library Journal Debut of the Month in 2017 and was nominated for an Agatha Award. The second book in her Detective by Day series is forthcoming in...

'THE BETWEEN': Sleepless in Miami

Let me start by writing that I don't know what to call the novel, The Between, by Tananarive Due. Is the story a  supernatural horror or fantasy within its contemporary setting? Is it a treatise on mental illness or sleep deprivation? Or is it something akin to time travel and alternate destinies with benign or malignant ghosts? Good questions and I think all those possibilities have their place in the story.

South Floridian African-American power couple Hilton and Dede James with their two k...

DRONE Hits and Misses-Book Review

The techno-thriller Drone by W. M. J. Kreucher doesn’t follow the more typical format of the FBI, military, or Homeland Security tracking a domestic threat. Successful in some ways via the insider drone and scientific knowledge of characters Pat O'Connor and Sam Kennedy, the captive heroes work against their wills to execute the revenge plans of Russian assassin, Vasili Grigory Konstantinov.

After the kidnapping of Pat's lady friend Jamie along with Sam's wife Helen, Vasili’s plans set-off a s...

High Tension with a Spiritual Element-SERIAL RITES Review

5-Stars out of 5-Stars

Malcome Hobbs suffers. His past haunts him.

A serial killer is loose in Atlanta. Hobbs and his team must stop the killer.

This book reminded me of James Patterson's books. Scenes go from the view of the killer then switch to the police point of view. That's where the comparison ends.

Serial Rites has a spiritual component and I love it.

The Profiler, serial killer, had many levels. The story took a journey as to how he came to be a killer. That was interesting.

"Atlanta's X-M...
