In this short story from Times of Trouble, Jon Ryan dreamed of becoming a doctor his entire life. Before he graduates from medical school, the government takes over healthcare, making him wary about the profession he's going to school for, but not enough to quit chasing his dream. He practices medicine as medical plagues and disasters occur, all the while the government says they're on top of things. Eventually, government oppression forces him to make changes to his practice that will affect his life as the End Times approach and before the Rapture occurs.
Reviews:
4.0 out of 5 stars A Companion to the End Times Saga July 30, 2013
By Linda Humbert
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
Cliff Ball did a great job on this short (6 chapters) story that goes along with the End Times books. You would recognize some familiar names, however briefly mentioned, from the series. I enjoyed this book because the author gave more details into the matter of government-controlled healthcare. In this, he did a tremendous job. If you have enjoyed his other books–Times of Trial, Times of Trouble, & Times of Turmoil, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one. If you haven't read the others, this story can be read and enjoyed as it is.
5.0 out of 5 stars Still right on target! July 29, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
Jon Ryan is a closer look at one of the characters from Times of Trouble. It's a good short story, quick read, and relevant to today. If you have read the other books, you might want to read this to get inside the head of one of the characters. If you have not read the other books, you might want to read this to get a taste of how close to the truth the other three books are, and then get the other three books to see what other kinds of things Cliff Ball reveals and how relevant it really is to our government today. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
5.0 out of 5 stars short in-depth look at one of the characters from end of times series August 8, 2013
By SHAN
Format:Kindle Edition
Scary read, as we can see both in USA and Canada, the government having too much to say with regards to our health care. I can see where the storyline could easily play out, and that is what is scary.
Dr's whom are forced to perform abortions, knock off Sr's-especially hit close to home with the debate over assisted suicide in QC. I already have seen a family member left in ER, after being sent by her Dr., until the very last, and all because of her age. Life is not easy, but with HIM, we know we will be with Him for eternity.
A quick read, but a very provocative one.

John Ryan: An End Times Short Story by Cliff Ball is a nice fast story that goes with the times. I haven't had the privlege of reading Ball's other books from the series but nonetheless still thoroughly enjoyed this one. Definitely strong enough to stand alone. Now I'm curious to experience the others! Nice work!

My Interview With Smashwords

Here's an interview I did through Smashwords. If you'd like me answer other questions you have about me or my books to post to Smashwords, please leave a comment below this post and I'll do my best to answer them and include them with the rest of the interview. Thanks!
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was around ten years old. I thought up wacky interview questions for classmates, asking them to make up what planet they were born on, what fake person they would vote for President of the United States, what was their favorite time traveling vehicle, stuff like that. I also wrote short stories, and I managed to get one published in high school in the early '90's through my Creative Writing class. I won a whole $35 for being third for this particular contest the short story was entered in. My mom took that and framed the check stub, a newspaper article she placed in our newspaper, and my senior class photo.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Times of Turmoil, my latest novel, is a prequel to my End Times novels, Times of Trouble and Times of Trial. I had reviews and readers who wanted the story to be fleshed out more, so I went back nearly a hundred years (the other novels are set 20+ years from now) to World War II. I explored how the Evans family gets the money and power to influence events in the United States and make it their mission to destroy Christian influence in the United States. I was inspired by some of the current happenings involving the United States government.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I actually always wanted to be independently published. I did a lot of research in high school about getting published, and seeing that I had to write query letters and send in manuscripts, only to be rejected, didn't appeal to me, so I decided to wait until the opportunity to publish my own works myself appeared. I wanted to be in control and figured doing it myself was the best way to do it. I got my chance in 2008 with the appearance of the Kindle and its publishing platform, so off I went.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has contributed to my success by letting me get published to Apple, Sony, and even into libraries when I wouldn't be able to do it myself. Smashwords also gives me the ability to offer my novels for free when doing free promotions, and then I'm able to reach readers who probably wouldn't normally give me a chance.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I think the greatest joy for me is being able to create my books my own way without anyone looking over my shoulder telling me I'm doing it wrong or telling me I have to put in a lot of filler that I don't want just to get over a certain word count.
What are you working on next?
The next novel I'm working on is called Timothy Phillips. It's set in the same universe as my End Times Saga. It's about a Christian young man who sings and is discovered by a record producer, he gets to compete on a national talent show, and then he wins the portion of the show he's on. We follow his highs and lows as he goes through his career while the End Times rapidly approach.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a few favorite authors. Of the traditional variety, I enjoy reading Tom Clancy, Harry Turtledove, S.M. Stirling, and a couple of the Star Trek writers. As for indies, I've read and enjoyed Seb Kirby, J.C. Phelps, Richard Stephenson, K.C. May, just to name a few.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time promoting my novels all over the internet and occasionally in person.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I've discovered them through Kindleboards, Facebook, Twitter, and some other sites as far as indie books go.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of different genres for pleasure, even nonfiction. For fiction, I read alternate history/speculative fiction, political thrillers, End Times fiction, time travel, science fiction, and sometimes fantasy.
For non-fiction, I read a lot of biographies and historical books about the United States.

The End Times Saga
In this novel, we follow how the Evans family gained their riches and eventually their power to influence events in the United States. We see important events that the Evans family gets themselves involved in: such as the return of the Israelites to Israel, the assassination of President Kennedy, the terrorism of 9/11, and eventually events that lead to government tyranny in the United States with the sole purpose of destroying Christianity and its influence in the United States.
What readers are saying about Times of Turmoil
"I kept wondering if the author had some 'inside information' and Gregory Evans was a pseudonym for someone real." - D. Austin, reader review
"Pick up this book today, you will not be disappointed" - Shannon, reader review
"Times of Turmoil is an epic story of good vs. evil involving historical events taking place right here in America." - D.P. Memory, reader review
"....was so believable that it made me wonder if it could really have happened that way." Jan Hall, reader review
FBI Agent Brian Atwood is used to danger, and when he hunts down leads to a terrorist plot and saves a U.S. Airbase, he's eventually offered a position to be the personal bodyguard of the President of the United States. The job not only tests his skills as an agent, but also his faith as a Christian when he discovers that the President has the morals of an alley cat. As Brian tries to come to terms with doing his job and having to look the other way, his world begins to crumble. His wife is dying of cancer and his son was taken away by the government because he has Down Syndrome. What else can go wrong? As the apocalyptic End Times approaches and the U.S. disintegrates into chaos, Brian must try to save his family.
What readers are saying about Times of Trouble
"Times of Trouble novel's backdrop is on the End Times and all the other events leading to it. It is like a true story as most of the character sketches, circumstances, and plots are familiar and possible to happen in real life." -- Christian Book Review
"Great end-time story. Fast paced and prophetic" - LaTawnia Kintz, Book reviewer
"....the story is quite captivating and intriguing..." Lisa Johnson, book reviewer
"Good read - always kept my interest"- Nancy Pardo, reader review
This is the story about three Christian families who experience the persecution of Christians first hand when the U.S. becomes a Police State. Two get rounded up by government forces as the President declares a dictatorship, initiates Michael Evans' Order 21, and lays the U.S. on a course that will mean its ultimate destruction. The third family make their way from Arizona to Wyoming, where they hope a town built by Doomsday Preppers twenty years earlier will keep them safe. Micheal Evans also tries to manipulate events in the Middle East to try to to bring war between Israel and Iran.
What readers are saying about Times of Trial
"Engaging with Biblical end time prophetic themes" -- Valerie Caraotta, reader review
"Times of Trial was entertaining and informative and very thought provoking." -- Jan Hall, reader review
"....a very insightful novel involving end-time prophecy and current events." -- LaTawnia Kintz, book reviewer
"Realistic Read!" - Linda Humbert, reader review

“Late for an appointment, a man hurried out and hailed a cab. Jumping in, he said to the driver, “Get going and drive as quickly as you can.” After a few blocks, he impatiently asked, “Are we almost there?” “Almost where?” replied the driver. In his hurry the passenger had failed to give the driver the address of his destination.
That may seem like an unlikely story, yet today many people are so busy trying to keep up with the rapid pace of living, they haven't stopped to consider what their goal in life is.” Millie Stamm
