Writing Exercise

In order for the two-part Zack Martinez exercise to succeed (See the recent writing exercise posts if you don't know what I'm talking about.), we'll need continuations for all 11 openings. If I get one I like I'll make the opening invisible so you'll know which ones are still waiting. Once I have something good for each opening, I'll start taking continuations for all openings again, allowing you to improve on what's already come in.

Writing Exercise, Part 2

We now have ten openings to stories about ace homicide detective Zack Martinez. Now we need each of the stories to be completed, presumably with Zack solving the case, but you aren't required to solve it if you have a better idea. Just don't kill off the star.

You can find the openings by clicking "Continue an opening" in the sidebar. You may conclude as many as you wish. Only one conclusion will be posted on the front page with each opening; others will be posted as comments. Sometime Saturday I

New Beginning 676

Countess Velois fled as the Death neared Champagne. She sailed on the Count's fastest ship to London and hurried inland on horseback, eager to hide herself and her daughter, Elinore, in remote country. They lodged at Warwyck castle, as guests of the Earl and his wife. The Countess felt safe there. Surely no plague would find them in such a distant and splendid place. She busied herself with solemn pleasantries such as reading and prayers and making embroideries with the other ladies.

Writing Exercise

Write the opening of a mystery starring ace homicide detective Zack Martinez. Make sure you work in a murder and a few suspects. Get it in by Friday at noon eastern. I'll post them at Evil Editor's Openings, and anyone who wishes (including you) may complete the story.

You'll find all the information you need about Zack in the comments of the post titled The Zack Martinez Chronicles. You don't need to use this information in your story, but try not to contradict it. Feel free to add to it. 200 wo

New Beginning 675

I almost lost my virginity last year. I was in Jeff Holbrook's basement on a Saturday at noon and one else was in the house but him and me. One rectangular window let in the filtered gray light of that pathetically unforgettable, autumn day. We dropped ourselves on a crappy old mattress stationed in the middle of the room and it was awkward right from the start. I was lying on my back stiff as a board and he was crushing the air out of me. I can't remember why I thought it would be a good idea t
