This Eye-Opening Truth Will Increase Your Faith.

The world wants to see the God we believe in. They desire perspective, revelation and a glimpse of  truth from someone like us; that is just as vulnerable as they are.  People feel they can’t see, touch, hear or feel God.  They assume he isn’t real or he is invisible and unreachable.     The truth is; God is a visible God!   Our visible God can be experienced everyday in miraculous ways. He can be recognized moment by moment in the middle of our ordinary lives. We see him in the stars, the

Curl Up With A Good Book

“Since I was 15,” Claire replied and then took in a slow, quiet breath, “when a member of the bloodline is deemed ready they receive the sight. For over 2000 years it has only ever been bestowed on sons, until, well, us.” Then she took the box, gingerly lifting the lid. Zoe looked on, a tingle running over her skin, as Claire reached in, retrieving the book.      Zoe’s eyes widened when she saw the large book with its leather binding and golden leaves wrapping around it to form a lock at

Happy Dancing!!

Did you know I took creative writing classes in college? Actually I was a creative writing major for the short time that I was at a secular college before Bible school. That may not seem like a big deal except for the fact that at no point prior to college did I ever think about pursuing any kind of career in writing. And at the time I was struggling with a call into full time ministry so when I left Sweet Briar to work on becoming a youth pastor I felt like that time had been wasteful. I didn’t

It's not about being Wonder Woman.

Zoe closed her eyes and pulled her knees to her chest giving herself a place to lean her head. She sat that way for a long, silent moment before looking back to Claire with her eyebrows knit together and her lips pulled tight “What would you do?”      Claire gasped a little at the question.       Zoe repeated, “What would you have done if you had been given a choice, like you're giving me?”      Claire looked away for a second, letting her eyes drift cross the floor and up to the ceiling[image error]

#PrayforCharleston

I woke up this morning, like any other, and checked my twitter feed. My heart broke as I read each tweet regarding the tragic shooting that had happened overnight in Charleston, SC. I can’t even begin to imagine the grief that has overcome the community and the parishioners of Emmanuel AME church. I also can’t imagine why anyone would want to step inside a church during prayer meeting and Bible study, or a school on a typical Tuesday, or a movie theatre on opening night, and open fire and kill

The Monster of our Minds

Maggie took a moment to compose herself. She calmed her breathing and heart rate as she slowly took the sketchbook and put it back in her bag. “So its real?” She finally looked back at Zoe.      “Or we’re both crazy,” Zoe tried to lighten the tension receiving only a small smile from Maggie in return.       “How can you see it?”      “I don’t know that either. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. At first I thought I was seeing things. But when it happened again in the

Hold On

Claire smiled at the two as they left. “See you this afternoon,” she leaned against the front door frame, giving a small wave, as they got in Daniel’s old truck and pulled out of the drive. When they were out of sight she closed the door and stood in front of a foyer mirror. She half turned and pulled her hair up. Her fingers danced across a scar just at the base of her neck. It was writing, Hebrew, a small inscription about two inches in length. Chosen. It had faded over time but the raised

Excerpt From Pulpits & Pink Lipstick

Chapter Three: Ping Pong   For some reason, ping pong came very natural to me. So I started playing it all the time. I played ping-pong even when I didn't have anyone to play ping-pong with. The hospital's people said it made me look like a duck in water, whatever that means.   - Forrest Gump          If I’m gonna use a quote from Forrest Gump, why that one? Why not, “Life is like a box of chocolates,” or “Me and Jenny was just like peas and carrots,” or “I was running?” If you’re like me than

Revolution of Girl World

Zoe nodded and settled those butterflies that had arisen in her stomach. She had never been good at making friends. She was really introverted if the truth were told and it took her a while to warm up to people. She did her best to hide her discomfort at being surrounded by relative strangers and reminded herself that everyone here was a stranger and, in her mother’s words, it was up to her to be friendly if she wanted to have any friends. So she took a small breath and took part in the

Perfectly Imperfect

Late in the afternoon Zoe and Claire had brought in all the boxes and were slowly putting their touch on the place. Pictures and familiar knick knacks lined the mantle. Plates and cups filled the cupboards. Clothes were folded in drawers. Zoe stopped unpacking to stare at a picture of her parents. She had taken it on their vacation last year. Camping complete with rain, tents falling down, and her dad unable to start a fire. She was away from her friends and her cell phone and had
