Live With Ease

I am on a mission lately. The mission is to reframe how we view life. The mission is to follow the path of least resistance and to live in the flow of life.

We are taught from day one that life is difficult; life is a grind, a struggle, a hustle. We are taught that life is hard and that we have to do what we can to get through it as gracefully as possible. I went along with this notion for a while. I went through majorly difficult relationships because I thought that’s what real relationships were like. I have toiled endlessly over difficult life decisions. I have spent the majority of my life battling my own body because I felt it didn’t look like it should, based on other people’s standards. I have lessened myself due to fear of what other people have thought of me. I have accepted mediocrity because I figured that was the best that could be done. I have hardened because of those who have hurt me.

I was settling, while also struggling, and suddenly I realized I didn’t want to live this way. I realized that I really did not want to spend my years on this earth living a difficult, confused, unloving, insecure, mediocre, hardened life.

I don’t want to struggle.

I want to live with ease.

I don’t believe joy has to be a challenge. I believe joy is a choice.

A caveat to my message this week: I am not in any way saying that the difficulties, the struggles, the traumas, the wounds, and the hardships won’t happen in life. We all know they will. Life happens. My message this week is urging us all to shift our perception of what we do with the struggle and how we react to the hardship. We tend to glorify strife and struggle as if it makes us more successful and more seasoned. In a way, it does. Experiences give us life cred, stories to tell, and an opportunity for healing. It is important to remember not to live in the story of the struggle, but to live in the story of the healing it presents.

Living with ease is a choice we make in every moment. You can choose to struggle, or you can choose to rise. If you want to make the commitment with me to live with ease, I have broken it down into a few simple steps below to get you on your way.

1. Set the intention. The first step to create change is to know what you want, and declare it to yourself.

2. Connect with yourself in daily meditation and prayer. In order to know the life that is truly “easy” for you, you must connect with your highest self.

3. Take inspired action. When you are connected, you will feel guided and on path. You will know what to do and when to do it. Trust this guidance.

4. Live in the present moment. Most of our struggle and strife comes from regret about the past or worry of the future. Release these feelings and be grounded in the present.

5. Find healing and growth from the difficulty. Every situation and relationship is brought to us to teach us what we need to heal. Whenever you feel struggle, ask yourself what it is that you need to know from the situation. Find comfort in knowing that you have all the answers within you.

I hope this helps you on your journey to living with ease! Let me know how this works for you and what you will release in your life to start living this way!

xoxo, Michelle

Being Not Doing

As goal-seeking, dream-making, co-creators in this wild and crazy life, we have high aspirations for how our lives pan out. Most of the time, when we have a desired outcome or a change that we want to create, we often ask ourselves, “What do I need to do to get there?” We are usually focused on the doing. But as one of my greatest teachers once pointed out to me, we are human beings, not human doings, and there lies the answer to all of our questions about how we can co-create, manifest, and bring forth the very best life. The answer is being not doing.

What energy are you living in right now? Are you stuck in fear? Are you living freely? Are you anxious? Are you joyful? Where are you right now in this moment? Then take a look at what it is that you are truly trying to bring into your life. Does your current energy match that which you are looking to create?

As we know via The Law of Attraction, like attracts like. Your vibe, your energy, your thoughts, your actions all create your reality. I truly believe this. If we start to analyze our part in the world we live in, we start to take back our power. I may not like what’s happening somewhere else, but I can sweep up my side of the street by living in high energy, thinking good thoughts, and having a positive effect on my surroundings, therefore creating a ripple effect.

When you are in full alignment with how you are being, the doing part will fall into place. When you truly understand yourself, understand your nature, and understand your purpose, the actions and the steps will become apparent. As much as I don’t want to say this, because I know some of you may think it’s too crazy or too bold ― we really don’t need to do, for the sake of doing. Set the intention to be, and the actions will come. When we place intention, purpose, and meaning on the doing (the action, the form, the physical), we get out of our hearts and into our thinking mind. Which isn’t a bad thing, but there is a time and a place for it. If we are looking for true change, that will provide deep, life-long, unwavering happiness, we must start with how we are being. The intention must be set on how can we live with as much integrity, alignment, passion, power, purpose, and love as possible. The details that the rational thinking mind and world require will fall into place.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Keep me posted in the comments below!

Four Lessons That Changed My Life

I remember vividly, the first time I read The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz. I had recently quit my corporate job (with nothing lined up) and was headed to Costa Rica for my very first yoga retreat to regroup, get centered and clear my head. I had been gifted The Four Agreements but didn’t feel the call to read it until that very trip. Divine timing, as always; reading that book, in that period of my life, changed my life. I truly want to credit this book for opening my eyes to a new way of thinking, for starting to shift my perception of what I thought was possible for my life, and for sending me on my journey into this wellness world.

I probably quote this book daily, as the lessons stick with me always. I find that whenever I have a problem at hand, one of these lessons is applicable and gets me back on track. If you haven’t already read this book, obviously I highly recommend it, and I want to share my take on these four truths so you can start incorporating them into your lives now!

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word. Whether we truly recognize it or not, the words we use, the language we speak, the intent and tone in which we communicate with others truly matters. I have noticed so much lately that in general, we don’t use kind words when speaking to each other, or when speaking to ourselves. As we know from past discussion, thoughts turn to words, then to actions, and then to manifestations. Dig deep, what are your thoughts and words truly bringing into the world? Are they part of the problem, or part of the solution?

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally. A huge lesson, which I will probably spend the rest of my life learning. I find myself repeating (to myself and to others) this line, “nothing other people do is because of you.” This changes everything for me. Other people’s behavior― how they act towards you, how they talk to you, how they view you― has nothing to do with you. We are all living, thinking, and acting based on our own pre-conceived notions of the world. My judgments of another person have nothing to do with them, but have everything to do with something inside of me that brings up these judgments. When we start to fully grasp the idea of not taking things personally, we can live free from suffering, we can let things go more easily, and we can move towards joyful existence.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions. I have gotten myself into a lot of trouble by writing my own story based on a situation that I really knew nothing about. As human beings, we love being wildly creative, crafting up elaborate stories to make situations feel okay and generally speaking, to suit our own egos when we feel hurt or saddened. We make assumptions because we tend to be afraid to ask for more: more clarity, more communication, and more interaction. This leads to living life in multiple untruths. Release yourself from the tangled webs you’ve woven. Ask questions, become informed, trust your instincts, and communicate wisely.

4. Always Do Your Best. Every day is different. We are always handed a different deck with situations and experiences that may knock us off kilter. No matter what happens to you in the external world, if you have set the intention with yourself to always do your best, you will be ok. Always doing your best is not a tout for perfectionism, but rather a push for awareness. You can only really know when you are sinking below par when you’re in tune with yourself. When you are doing your best, you are living with intent, you are in the flow of life, and you really aren’t terribly bothered with competition or comparison. You are truly doing you, and that’s all that matters. Do your best, forget the rest.

As you can see, these four truths are truly powerful, and when applied to your life can create unimaginable shifts. If you haven’t read The Four Agreements, my homework for you this week is to grab a copy and immerse yourself in this ancient Toltec wisdom. You won’t regret it!

If you have read this book, I would love to hear how it has affected your life. Leave me your thoughts in the comments below!

April Peacemaker Spotlight: Anne Marie Imperiale

I have personally known Anne Marie for a few years now, and she has without a doubt changed my life in so many ways. Anne Marie is a life coach and teacher of A Course in Miracles. I am grateful for her for many reasons, but mostly for opening the doors and opening my eyes to this important metaphysical text. She has taught me so much about choosing love over fear, having faith, and surrendering to life’s plans.

I was able to chat with Anne Marie to get some inspirational treats for you guys, so keep reading to see our Q&A. Enjoy learning about this amazing miracle worker!

PMPL: What does the phrase Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life mean to you?

AMI: I believe that a place of unshakable peace lives inside each of us. When we take responsibility for nurturing this place of peace and make it our center of gravity, the experience of our lives dramatically changes as a direct result. We become the calm in the middle of the storm.

PMPL: What is your favorite inspiring quote?

AMI: “Only to the extent that we expose ourselves over and over to annihilation can that which is indestructible in us be found.” Pema Chodron.

It reminds us that we must let our false sense of self crumble over and over again to get in touch with the only part of us that’s real. This is the space of miracles and unlimited possibility.

PMPL: What A Course in Miracles lesson has affected you the most?

AMI: Lesson 182: I will be still in an instant and go home.

This lesson speaks of a longing that we have for a home we have not yet found because we have searched for it outside of ourselves. This home can only be found by going inside and connecting with our spirit. This lesson helps us to understand and experience that everything we will ever need is inside of us. The source of all love is inside of us. We need only call upon it and remember that this is our truth.

PMPL: What is your daily spiritual practice?

AMI: I try to meditate for 20 minutes before I get out of bed in the morning. Immediately after, I mentally set my intentions for the day and most importantly how I would like to feel. I say this prayer from A Course in Miracles, “If I make no decisions by myself, this is the day that will be given me.” And I turn my will over to my higher self.

I find it is helpful to treat each day as my spiritual practice. Whatever occurs, am I in judgment or am I the non-judgmental witness? Simple awareness throughout your day can be a spiritual practice in itself.

PMPL: How do you stay positive when you feel like life throws you curveballs?

AMI: When something happens that I do not like, I ask these 2 questions: “If this situation or circumstance was an opportunity to heal something, within me what might that be?” And, “How can I use this situation as an opportunity to remember the truth of who I am?”

Treat every curveball as alarm bell to remember the truth of your being. You are a part of the divine. You are peace. You are love.

5 Simple Tools to Manage Stress

I don’t know about you guys, but the past few weeks for me have felt a little harried. Perhaps this is due to the moon and eclipse, or a deep feeling of change and expansion. I have noticed within myself and those around me a deep sense of anxiety and stress. There is a lot of uncertainty, fear, and a unease about the state of the world.

Maybe, this also comes from inner turmoil about whether or not we are living the lives we are truly meant to be living. These are some heavy concerns and burdens to bear, right? Stress is a huge component in our lives, and it is one of the biggest blocks to living a life of freedom, ease, and joy. As we all know, stress leads to many physical ailments and diseases; it truly is the root of our problems. Luckily, we live in a world where we have access to tools for managing stress.

Having the knowledge and tools to manage stress and anxiety empowers us to live the life we truly dream of living. If you feel stress creeping in on your day or into your mind, here are my top five tips to keep anxious thoughts and stress at bay.

1. Practice meditation daily. My meditation practice has been my saving grace when it comes to managing the thoughts of the mind and finding a sense of inner peace. One of the biggest misconceptions of meditation is that its goal is to quiet the mind. It’s actually the opposite. The mind will always think, and it is in this dedicated space that I can let some of the errant thoughts go, without harping on them as I would in regular day-to-day moments.

2. Allow yourself to stop. Many of us get so busy in our lives that we believe that we cannot let ourselves stop. Give yourself permission to stop. You may have a long to-do list, but powering through without giving yourself a chance to stop, breathe, and regroup will not give you the results you desire. Stop before you start again.

3. Remember to breathe. In stressful times we tend to tense up, and in some cases we can forget to breathe! Our breath is our life force, and taking nice, deep, calming breaths can create a huge shift in our mind and body. Feeling stressed? Stop and take a deep breath, and you will probably notice instant relief.

4. Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparison is the true thief of joy. I have noticed when I compare myself to others, I feel stressed, anxious, and judgmental. We are all unique beings living equally different and amazing paths. Comparing is a waste of time. If you want to compete with anyone, gently do it with yourself. Strive to be the best version of yourself every day. Soon, you will notice you’ll care less what others are doing because you are so in love with what you do.

5. Make time for things that make you truly happy. We live in a society that often says doing things for pleasure is selfish. We know better. Self-care is a must! Put time in your calendar to do something you truly enjoy every day. Take a yoga class you love, get that massage you’ve been craving, or spend time with those who lift you up. Make the conscious decision to choose joy every single day.

I hope these tips help you manage any stressful feelings you are having now and always! Tell me in the comments below, what are your go-to’s for managing stress?

xoxo, Michelle

Aim True: Q&A with Kathryn Budig!

Hi Guys!

I’m thrilled to have this very special blog for you today! IMG_6298

Today marks the launch of my dear friend, mentor, and teacher, Kathryn Budig’s, new book Aim True. Before you quickly exit out of this post thinking it’s strictly for sales purposes, I urge you to give me a few moments to explain why I’m so passionate about this woman and this book.

I was first attracted to Kathryn a few years ago, while going through my own trials and tribulations in life. Kathryn’s authenticity, confidence, unwavering sense of purpose, and infectious smile reflected back to me all the things I truly desired in life. I’m one of those people that pursues that which makes me feel alive, and so I began to follow Kathryn’s work, attend workshops, and have gotten to know her on a personal level. When I first received my copy of Aim True a few weeks ago, I devoured it in one night. I felt like she was speaking directly to me, giving me sage advice and mentoring me through life. Her new book is more than yoga and food; it’s a lifestyle. Kathryn truly embodies what we feel Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life is striving to achieve in this world.

I had the chance to chat with Kathryn and ask her a few questions about her new book and her aim true philosophy to share some fun stuff with you guys! Keep reading to check it out and be sure to grab a copy of her book today!

xoxo,

Michelle

PMPL: At Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life we encourage readers to find a daily practice and practice it. What are some of your “must-dos” every day, and how to you keep yourself on track with your busy schedule?

IMG_3556

KB: I believe in practicing daily intentions and actions, but stay careful not to say I MUST do something everyday, as it often leads to disappointment. For example, I would love to meditate, practice yoga or sweat every single day, but often on a busy travel or work day it doesn’t fit in. Those are the days where I remind myself and others to do your best—set your intention, stick to it, and then make the most out of the situation you’ve been given. It might mean taking deep breaths, being okay with a few stretches or allowing yourself the time to unplug and rest.

PMPL: We love the concept of “aiming true”, what would you suggest to someone who desires the clarity to find their “target” in life or to someone who feels like they lack their “purpose”?

KB: It begins with being honest with yourself about what makes you absolutely amazing and unique. It’s so crucial that we understand our talents, otherwise we can’t make use of them. I’d suggest making a list of 5 amazing qualities you possess along with a list of what you’re incredibly passionate about. Then it’s time to connect the dots to see how your talent can support your passion to create your purpose.

PMPL: Self-love is so important, as you already know as the first chapter of Aim True is entitled “Love Who You Are Right Now”. This seems to be so hard for so many of us to simply love and accept who we are in this moment. What are some easy ways to bring ourselves back to love when we get particularly hard on ourselves?

KB: I like to remind myself in low moments that happily ever after doesn’t mean you’re always happy during each chapter. Our lives are full of highs and lows, but each experience, moment and person serves a purpose to bring us to our happiness. This simple acknowledgment helps me in my moments of confusion, or when I’ve been treading water in the unknown for too long.

I personally use this mantra (and have written it on my bathroom mirror) in moments of struggling with accepting my body:

I am perfect.

I am beautiful.

I am not my body.

IMG_3633

PMPL: All the healthy recipes in your book look amazing! We can’t wait to get in the kitchen and try some out! What is your favorite or go-to meal to cook?

KB: I’m currently on a major spaghetti squash kick! It’s the perfect grain replacement. I’ll roast it and add a lovely sauce or some kind of delicious protein on top. When I’m tight on time, I’ll pick up a rotisserie chicken and roast some tomatoes along with the squash. I’ll toss it all together with fresh herbs and really good extra virgin olive oil. BOOM.

PMPL: We often hear you speak so highly of your tribe and those who support you fiercely. What an amazing gift to have people who are in your corner no matter what. What is your advice to those looking to attract like-minded individuals to create their own tribe?

KB: A huge (and difficult) step is to clear your space. Once you’re on your path to aiming true and you’re embracing your talents, people who you once thought supported you might start to turn. Even though it’s painful, be okay with plucking the poisonous situations and people out of your life. Once you do this, the French doors to your real tribe will swing wide open and you’ll summon your support system.

Thank you Kathryn for chatting with us! We can’t wait to watch the amazing success of Aim True!

How to Attract More of What You Want in Life

We all have desires, wishes, hopes and dreams. Many of us work so hard, hustle, and try to do everything it takes to get what we want and still feel empty handed. We think success and getting what you want has to do with luck. What if I told you that you have control of what you get in life? The good news is you do have that power. The bad news is you have to work for it. What I mean by work for it is you have to change your thoughts, which for many of us is a lot of work. Your thoughts truly matter; your thoughts become things. Your thoughts become your reality.

I have been spending a lot of time listening and reading books on the Law of Attraction. This has lead me to really start to observe my thoughts, acknowledge my current situation, and think about what thoughts I might have had to create the situations I am experiencing right now. Usually, I can pinpoint a thought or belief system that has manifested into a life situation that is in the present moment, which I might not really desire. This has been a huge revelation for me, as it has given me a big sense of control in what I am creating for my life.

The simple act of redirecting my thoughts and reframing my beliefs has dramatically changed my life. I have found so much freedom and happiness in simply being aware of how I want to feel, and choosing thoughts based on those desires. It’s time to be the magical co-creator of the life of your dreams. You can have what you desire, you just have to start with the thoughts in the mind.

Are you ready to change your thoughts and change your life? Here is a simple step-by-step guide to get you on the right path.

1. Get clear. How do you want to feel, what do you wish to attract? Clairty is the foundation on which you build the life of your dreams.

2. Observe your thoughts. Are your thoughts in alignement with your desires? Begin to notice how your mind works. Make adjustments accordingly.

3. Be the energy you wish to attract. Live in the energy of what you desire. Act as if you already have all that you so deeply wish for.

4. Let go of the attachment to the outcome, and enjoy the ride. The present moment is where the magic truly happens. Release the attachment to specific outcomes, and see what unfolds when you are living freely in the now.

Want are you wishing to attract in your life? Feel free to out your desires here in the comments, sending it out to the Universe! We will create manifesting magic here!

Keep Calm and Carry On: Election Edition

I don’t know about you, but the political season tends to bring out a certain level of crazy for the country, the world, and myself. This year seems to be a particularly wild circus thus far. As spiritual beings, we are all one; however, I feel that we are the most separated during contentious political times.

It saddens me, when I take a glimpse at the news of the anger and hatred we seem to have for each other. Call me naïve, but I really thought we had progressed way more than this. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and this tense time, politically speaking, is no exception. I believe we are in a time where we are being called to love harder and to shine brighter. Regardless of your political beliefs, at our core, we are pure love. We all want what’s best for the world. We all want to return to love.

If you are like me and have been feeling really overwhelmed and stressed about the state of these political affairs, take heart in knowing you are not alone. Here are some simple tips I have been standing by to remain calm and at peace during this time where it seems difficult to do so.

Be in the know, but don’t allow yourself to be sucked into the melodramas of the media. Inform yourself on the facts, but don’t spend hours on hours watching the “entertainment” the media is providing. Strictly monitor what goes into your psyche.

Remember this time is a call for love. Even though you might want to scream your head off at a person who has very opposing views than yourself, remember that every action is either love or a call for love. You can be respectful of opposing views while not falling into alignment with opposing views.

Continue to be the light. Darkness feeds on darkness. Tired of what you’re seeing on the news? Take it upon yourself to become the change you wish to see, in a compassionate and peaceful manner.

Release anger and recognize the other person is you. One of my favorite lessons from Yogi Bhajan. Remember that we are one; take your anger and bring it back to love. Negative actions and emotions won’t bring the desired outcome.

Remember that prayer is the medium for miracles. Continue to hold the space that the highest good of the nation and the world will come forth in this instance. Keep the faith, and remember that all is well.

How are you managing to keep the peace this political season? Let me know in the comments!

xoxo,

Michelle

How to Deal with Indecision

In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing worse than being stuck in indecision. This is humorous to me because historically in my life, I suffer greatly from being very indecisive. I have made loved ones absolutely insane with inability to make decisions. Stemming from the smallest and most minute of what do you want to eat to the grandest and most life changing of where do you want to go to college or want to live; decision making has never been my forte.

So because of this behavior, I have repeated the same “I don’t know how to make decisions” story for my entire life. Let me tell you, it’s exhausting, it’s unpleasant, and it’s really not an attractive energy to be around. Some of you might know what I mean!

The past few weeks I have been an indecisive maniac. I’ve been faced with some big life choices, and when the pressure was on, I couldn’t make any decisions. There are unlimited possibilities out there for us, and so we get caught in our heads shuffling through it all, trying to determine what is best for us. The unlimited possibilities factor is amazing. There is so much that life throws at us in a positive way that makes life interesting, adventurous, and a story worth telling.

This is until our pesky brains get involved! We all know our brains are so powerful. We would not be the species we are today without the power and capacity of the human brain. I have found that when the pressure is on, it is not our brains that can make major decisions; it is our hearts and our intuition. So if you are feeling like you’re stuck and can’t make a decision, take heart knowing you are not alone. Here are some of my tips on how to break free of the limbo nightmare.

1. Follow what feels good. Your body is usually a good barometer for what is truly in your best interest. Check in with yourself. What signs is your body giving you?

2. Try to take the time factor out of it. If you’re under the pressure of a time frame, try to release it. Time has a tendency of making us feel like we’re in a pressure cooker. Decisions made based on a pressured time frame tend to stem from fear, which usually doesn’t give us the outcome we so desire.

3. Give your brain a decision break. Agonizing over the pros and cons list for days on end won’t get you any closer to the answer. Give yourself a mental break by setting an intention to not think about the decision at hand. It could be a few hours or a few days. The space that your break gives you could bring the much needed clarity you desire.

4. If you’re stuck in the middle, maybe no decision is necessary at this time. Sometimes indecision can mean no decision. Not lit up by any of your options? Perhaps it’s simply a sign to keep things status quo for the time being.

5. Limit outside influences. When we feel stuck we reach out to those near and dear to us for advice. This is great, but it can also leave us feeling even more confused. Asking our confidants can be helpful, but keep in mind that ultimately, you are the only one who knows what’s truly right for you. Other people’s opinions have other people’s energies. Stay in alignment with your own truth.

6. If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. When all else fails, is it a hell yes? If not, then it’s probably a no. Make the decisions that light you up not bring you down.

What I know for sure is I love sharing what I have learned from my life experiences with all of you.

xoxo Michelle

Dream Big! You Are An Infinite Possibility

What are you creating in your life? Better yet, what do you wish to create for your life? This week’s blog is a gentle nudge in that direction. When I say creative, I’m not necessarily pushing you to do more arts and crafts (which you totally can do too). I’m asking you to take a look at what you are co-creating with the Universe. I once heard a speaker who told us that we are all infinitely creative. My mind immediately blocked this because my own stories then said, “I am not as creative as other people I know.” The speaker then went on to say that we are all infinitely creative because we are always in co-creation with the Universe. Our thoughts, our beliefs, our intentions, and our actions are all creating our reality. This simple shift of semantics and using the word creative in a different way, forever changed so much for me, as I hope it will for you. I have a feeling that, like I once did, many of you feel that you might lack in the creativity department.

So this week, I will urge you to dream big. Ask yourself what you want to create for your life, and then go fiercely after what you desire. The Universe is waiting for your clarity, your confidence, and your unique truth to help you create the life of your dreams… but you have to do the work and meet it half way. You are an infinite possibility. There are infinite possibilities. Don’t sell yourself and your life short.

Want to start getting creative with your life? Take some time with yourself to reflect and answer these questions below and get ready for the ride of your life!

What do you really want?

How do you want to feel?

What makes you feel most alive?

What brings you true joy?

If you truly believed anything was possible, what would you do starting today?

What can you let go of that is keeping you from being/feeling/living in the way you desire?

I can’t wait to see what you guys create in this life! Please share with me your big dreams, it’s a perfect first step in manifesting them into reality!

xoxo, Michelle
