Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Sensual excerpt from Forbidden Blood (Vampire Romance Novel)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is author’s choice.

I delved into Forbidden Blood today for my Snippet Saturday teaser, which is a vampire romance novel. This scene takes place after the vampire hero, Kearn, has taken his human heroine, Amber, to a ball in order to lure out the man who is after her, only for that vampire to get his hands on her and end up tasting her blood. Kearn has saved her and taken her back to his apartment, and needs to deal with her injuries…

Forbidden Blood - paranormal vampire romance Book

Kearn waved his hand over his apartment door and it opened. He closed it with the same gesture once inside and carried Amber across the large white room to his bedroom. He carefully laid her down on his bed. She didn’t stir, not even when he turned on the light.

“Amber,” he whispered and touched her cheek.

He lost his hold on her blood, the connection between them severing and leaving him cold and alone. She lay on his bed, white against the brown covers, looking like death.

Kearn tried to talk to her blood again. Nothing happened. She had passed out. It would keep her safe from the vampire but it worried him. He wasn’t used to dealing with humans so didn’t know how bad this was. A vampire could lose consciousness from lack of blood and come around only a moment later. He didn’t know how long a human would take.

He removed his black uniform jacket and placed it over her to keep her warm, and then ran around the foot of the bed and into the bathroom. He wet one of the brown hand towels and came back to her, and drew the jacket away from her chest. Blood caked it in a thick line down from the left side of her neck. He gently cleaned it off her and then took the black napkins away from her throat.

Bits of the tissue stuck to the blood on her throat. He picked them off, careful not to disturb the cut, and then concentrated on cleaning around the wound.

The dried blood slowly cleared to reveal the cut. It was shallow and only half as long as his little finger, stopping just before her artery. Tonight would have gone differently if it had reached there. He would have had to seal the wound in the ballroom and suffer the consequences.

The precision of the cut backed up his earlier thoughts about the vampire. He hadn’t intended to place her in any serious danger. He had only wanted to confirm her as a Source Blood and control her.

Kearn wrapped the damp towel around his fingers and dabbed at the cut. Tiny beads of blood lined it in spots where the skin hadn’t begun to heal.

He reached over and turned on the bedside table light. It shone brightly on the cut and relief bloomed sweet and strong inside him.

The knife.

The vampire had cut her with the knife. The line of the wound was too clean for fangs.

She wouldn’t become like them.

With his fear eased, his anger returned. What the vampire had done wasn’t the only reason he was angry. It was the way the man had held her and the look of ecstasy she had worn. It was the fact that the vampire had made her hold him too and made her enjoy the feel of his lips against her throat.

Kearn’s blood burned. His jaw tensed and he ground his teeth together, frowning down at Amber’s throat. His heart demanded the life of the vampire in return for trying to take her from him.

The vampire wasn’t the only one to blame for her suffering.

Kearn had failed her too. He should have assured her safety and then greeted the Venator. From now on, he had to place her before his duty. He wouldn’t fail her again.

He put the towel down on the side cupboard and gently tilted Amber’s head to her right, so he could see the wound. He needed to help it heal. The thought of running his tongue over her throat was potent and arousing, stirring him to hardness against his trousers even when he knew that nothing would happen between them. He had never touched a human’s throat in this way before and wasn’t sure if he would be able to control himself, but he needed to seal the cut.

With a deep breath, he kneeled on the bed and leaned over her, placing his hands on either side of her arms. His gazed fixed on her throat. He wasn’t strong enough to do this. It would tip him over the edge, past the point of no return, and the effect on him wouldn’t be because she was a Source Blood. It would be because it was her.

Tear tracks lined her pallid face, black make-up ringed her closed eyes, and her red lipstick had worn away, but she was still beautiful to him. She still captivated him.

Closing his eyes, he dipped his head to her neck and took another deep breath to regain some control.

The moment his tongue touched her throat, he was lost. The taste of her blood was sweet on his senses, rousing them and strengthening the connection to her. She surfaced from the black abyss of unconsciousness and wrapped him in invisible arms that held him to her throat. Her mind swam with his in the darkness of their joined blood. He licked her throat again, savouring her blood and opening further to her, allowing her in so more than their blood became one. Her feelings ran in his veins, all warmth and happiness, fear and trepidation, arousal and desire. His matched them but for different reasons. He feared what she would think of him.

She wouldn’t think anything bad.

He desired to protect her.

She wanted to free him, to give him reason to fight, so he would never be lonely.

He was scared of the future.

She was unafraid of it, because he would be with her, and she would savour every moment of it, no matter how it ended.

Kearn wrapped his lips around her throat, unable to resist the call in her blood for him to take it, to bring her into his body so they could be as one for longer and remain together. It went beyond merely healing her, but he couldn’t help himself. He needed her.

She moved against him when he sucked on her blood, taking a small amount and reopening the wound. His head felt heavy and light at the same time, his senses swirling and emotions spiralling out of control. He pulled harder, needing more, and a buzz ran through his veins when he swallowed the mouthful of blood. Not only his feelings but Amber’s too. She wanted this. She wanted him. He licked the cut and kissed her throat, desperate to take things further, and then buried his face in her neck, sucking on her blood again. Images from his dreams ran through his mind. His arousal soared and warmth coiled in his abdomen. He groaned and longed to feel her naked body against his, her legs wrapped around his hips and their bodies truly as one. His heart beat harder, a dizzying rush in his veins that relaxed him and released his inhibitions. He wanted her too.

So take her.

Make her his.

His fangs extended at the command and he pulled away, afraid of catching her with them or giving in to his desire to sink them into her throat and seal her fate. He breathed hard, staring down at her, and struggled for control, grasping the bedcovers and drawing them into his fists.

He couldn’t do as her blood bid. She had no place in his world.

Duke Montagu’s words hit him with full force as his body still tingled from the taste of her blood and still ached to be inside her.

She would make a beautiful vampire.

While normal humans became weak vampires, Amber would become one strong enough to rival even the power of the oldest of his kind. Her blood would see to that, and it wouldn’t become like a normal vampire’s, strong and dull in taste. It would retain most of its fragrance, but would lose almost all of the effect it had on other vampires. That power would be hers then, locked deep in her blood, held out of reach of others. She would be a goddess with both beauty and power.

Kearn remained leaning over her, his gaze on her peaceful face. Feelings surfaced within her that threatened to shatter his control. Affection. Tenderness. Understanding. She wanted to be with him. He believed that deep in his heart. She was falling for him.

He lowered himself and pressed his lips to hers. She surprised him by responding, kissing him so lightly that he warmed inside and longed for more. His lips played against hers, parting and meeting, moving slowly over each other in a gentle caress that tested his restraint. His fangs grazed his lower lip and he was careful to keep them away from hers. They wouldn’t go away as long as her blood was calling to him to taste it again. He took a deep breath, breathing in her scent and savouring it, memorising this moment in case it never happened again.

Amber tilted her head up towards his.

She whispered against his lips.

“Stay with me forever.”

Kearn pulled back, eyes wide, the tips of his silver hair framing his vision of her.

He searched his blood but couldn’t tell where her feelings ended and his began. Had she meant those words or had they been his voiced through her? His arms trembled, as though they could no longer support his weight, and his breathing became shaky. He was a fool.

He was falling for her, a human, and it was too late to stop himself.

She didn’t need to become a vampire to win the heart of her Noble.

She had already captured it.

Teaseday – Excerpt from Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6)

Today’s tease comes from the book Unleash, which is the sixth book in my popular Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series. Read on for this Tuesday’s tease…

She leaned over him and brought her wrist right up to his lips.

Snow swallowed hard and his gaze slid to the soft flesh on the underside of her forearm. He told himself to resist even as another part of him demanded he take what she offered so freely. No. It wouldn’t help him. It wouldn’t free him of his bloodlust. It would only make it worse. He had to abstain from blood until he was weak and then begin again with smaller quantities.

He had to drink.

He couldn’t deny that dark urge.

Snow struck hard, burying his fangs deep into her soft body. She cried out and slapped her free hand over her mouth to stifle the rest of it, the sound distant to his ears as her blood rushed into him.

It was warm and tasted incredible, like nothing he had ever taken before, sweet and bitter at the same time, imbued with power that shot through his system like a drug, giving him what should be an illegal high.

He drank greedily, powerless to stop himself from taking all that he could, desperate for more of her. His cock hardened painfully, his body coming alive with sensation that left him dizzy and hazy, lost on a warm sea of bliss.

“Enough!” She tore her arm away from him and stumbled backwards. She blindly grabbed the metal post at the foot of his bed for support and slid down it to land on the floor with a harsh thud.

Snow opened his eyes, craned his neck as much as he could and stared down at her, shocked by what she had done and how she had tasted. Tears streaked her cheeks and there were red marks on them where she had pressed her fingers into them when covering her mouth to stop herself from crying out in pain. She held her wrist to her chest, clutching it tightly, her knuckles blazing white. Blood already spotted her pristine pale dress, marring the pure fabric.

He had hurt her.

He cursed himself this time, guilt riding him hard and chasing him down from his high. He had tainted her and harmed her. He had made her cry with his vicious attack on her and his greed.

He should have eased his fangs in gently and sipped from her with the reverence she deserved. He should have made it pleasurable for her.

“Do you often starve yourself to the point of insanity?” She snapped the words at him like a whip, her innocence evaporating as she scowled, her eyes dark with the pain and fury she emanated.

Snow was quiet for a few long seconds, unsure what to say in response to that or how to make things better. Would she accept an apology? He had told her not to offer her wrist. She had seen him at his worst. She should have known he would hurt her.

“I had blood a short while ago,” he confessed, “but it tastes like death to me these days. But you… you taste like life. How?”

He hadn’t missed the little fact that drinking her blood had driven him right through the other side of his bloodlust and into the clear too. The way he felt right now, he knew he wouldn’t suffer another attack for at least a day, if not more. He had never felt this normal, not since before his bloodlust had first emerged.

“Do you suffer like this every night?” Her expression softened to reveal the innocence that he was coming to like about her. Her wide luminous eyes still sparkled with the tears that were drying on her pale cheeks, but they no longer held anger and darkness. They were soft and bright, inquisitive again. He nodded. Her fine black eyebrows puckered into a small frown. “There is no cure?”

“Only death.” Something he had long desired but had always been denied.

She swallowed and closed her eyes, her frown hardening. She released her wrist and pressed her bloodied hand to her head, smudging red across it.

“You are unwell?” he said, his guilt returning with a vengeance.

“I feel dizzy… and a little weak.” Her eyes opened and fixed on him, the brightness in them gone.

Snow frowned. How much had he taken from her? She was slender and delicate. He had drunk greedily. He had taken too much. If she had been a normal weak human, he probably would have killed her. The black wings curling around her shoulders were a constant reminder that she was anything but weak. An angel.

And she had given him blood.

That couldn’t be a good thing for her to have done.

“Come to me. Let me seal the wound.” He jerked his chin, trying to coax her into doing as he asked.

She grasped the bedpost and slowly pulled herself up off the floor, and then stumbled forwards and collapsed onto the mattress beside him, her breathing rapid and shallow. She shook as she bravely offered her right wrist to him.

Snow gently licked it, cleaning away the blood. His tongue on her flesh felt so good and he liked the way she stared at him, watching him intently.

Her skin was hot, her taste delectable.

He ached to feel her body against his, soft against hard, warm against cool. He hadn’t touched a female in centuries, hadn’t wanted to either, but he longed to lay his hands on her and learn her curves, her fragrance, and her sweetest spots.

It was wrong of him to desire her, an angel, one pure and untainted while he was wretched, but she brought out the devil in him. She made him want to taint her and ruin her.

Possess her.

He shifted his focus back to her wrist, taking care to ensure that the bleeding had stopped before he leaned his head back on the black pillows.

His gentleness seemed to please her and she offered him a small smile as she drew her arm back to her.

“I had feared you would begin drinking again,” she whispered and ran her thumb over the marks on her wrist, her gaze on them now. “They tell our kind that vampires are foul.”

Her gaze flickered over his face to settle on his hair and she reached out and lifted one of the long strands, drawing it out of his eyes.

“Snow,” she murmured and his vivid scarlet eyes shifted to meet hers and narrowed. “Your hair is like snow. It is pure and beautiful.”

Snow turned his face away. “You of all people should know how impure I am.”

She sighed and even that sounded melodic and soothing to him. Her hand left his hair and she shifted on the bed. When he realised what she intended, he snapped his head around to face her, catching her reaching for the cuff that secured his right wrist.

“Don’t!” he barked and she ignored him.

“You are safe now, satisfied. You will not hurt me.” She sounded so positive that he almost smiled and couldn’t resist pointing out something that would contradict her belief and most likely have her blushing again.

“I am not so sure,” he said and she paused to look at him. “My bloodlust is under control, but you are still not safe from me. I am not sure you ever will be.”

She looked confused at first and then her cheeks darkened to the deepest shade of red so far and her eyes widened, and he knew she had understood him and was now aware of the danger she was in. His bloodlust was sated, but he still felt an undeniable and consuming lust for her.

Snow smiled at the way her eyes edged downwards, towards his hips, as though she was unaware of what she was doing before it was too late and her gaze settled on his groin. Her cheeks darkened another shade. She swallowed and her heart fluttered wildly. Why?

Were her thoughts running along the same line as his were?

Unleash - paranormal vampire romance BookUnleash

Felicity Heaton

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.

When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.

A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.

One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

Sensual Sunday – Sexy Snippet from Her Fallen Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 2)

Sensual Sunday is brought to you today by Her Fallen Angel, which is the second book in my popular Her Angel romance series. Sensual Sunday’s always feature a hot excerpt from one of my paranormal romance books. Read on for this Sunday’s sensual snippet…

“You okay?” Annelie pocketed her keys and started down the quiet dark road with him towards the car park at the back of the pub.

“I have been better.” He tilted his head back, staring up at the night sky, and sighed. There was such a look of melancholy in his eyes. What was he thinking?

“Where did you go, Lukas?” She took her car keys out of her pocket, turned the corner into the car park, and pressed the button on the fob. The lights on her small car flashed. “I really was worried about you.”

He stopped and looked at her. She turned and met his gaze, letting him see that she wasn’t just saying that. He had disappeared without a word and it had frightened her. She had missed him. He stepped up to her and touched her face again, his palm warm against her cheek. His eyes held hers and she swore she saw another flicker of affection in them.

“I had to go away. I should have told you, Annelie. I should not have worried you.” There was black magic in his voice and the way he said her name, soft but with an underlying note of passion, and she was under his spell. He stroked her cheek, sending a shiver through her, and smiled into her eyes. “I did not think I would be gone so long. I promise I will not do it again.”

Annelie told herself to break free but she couldn’t. She didn’t want to. She wanted to stand there in the warm night, feeling hot from head to toe because of Lukas’s caress and the ardent look in his eyes. She wanted to believe that his words meant what she thought they did and that he liked her and things between them would be different now. She hadn’t looked at another man since Lukas had walked into her life, had dreamed the impossible of him falling for her, and now it felt as though the impossible was possible after all.

Lukas wanted her as much as she wanted him.

She stepped into his embrace, her heart thundering against her chest, and stared up into his eyes. His fingers stroked her neck, his thumb brushing over her chin and then under her jaw. He tilted her head back, his eyes fixed on hers, and lowered his mouth. She shivered when their lips met and then pressed her hands against his firm chest and melted into him as he kissed her. It started out slow, a bare meeting of lips, but before she could draw another breath, his mouth covered hers and he stole it away.

It was everything that she had imagined it would be. She craned her neck, slid her arms around his shoulders, and kissed him, their lips meeting and parting, tongues tracing each other. He groaned and it was music to her heart, driving her on. She licked his lower lip, tangled her tongue with his, and kissed him harder, her breathing coming faster now.

Sense reared its ugly head but she shoved it away, not interested in anything her mind had to say on the matter. The kiss was divine. Lukas was divine. It didn’t matter that he was still a little tipsy and that they were kissing in the middle of an unpleasant car park. She knew in her heart that this wasn’t the drink talking.

He pulled back, breathing hard, and his eyes searched hers. The fire in them matched the inferno burning within her. Did she look so hungry too? She wanted to devour him.

“Annelie…” He started and looked as though he was going to kiss her again, but then he stepped back. “I am sorry. If I have offended—”

“No.”

His eyes darted to hers.

She couldn’t bring herself to say it. She wanted him too. She had wanted that kiss more than anything. She was on the brink of saying it but other words came out instead.

“We should get you home.”

He looked disappointed again and nodded. Annelie walked to her car, cursing herself, feeling Lukas trailing behind her. She was aching all over to feel his hands and lips on her again. Why couldn’t she have just said what she had wanted to? Lukas, it was fine that you kissed me because I want to do that to you and a lot more besides. It was so easy to say it in her head.

She walked around the car and glanced at him. His eyes were on her again, drifting over her body, bringing the fire back in their wake. She burned for him. She burned so much that she felt as though she was going to die if he didn’t touch her and kiss her again, if he didn’t quench the flames as only he could.

If she had said what she had wanted to, would he be kissing her again now? Would that divine body be against hers and his hands be on her, skimming over her in the way she was craving, bringing her to life with passion and need?

Annelie yanked the car door open and got in. Lukas slid into the passenger seat beside her and she started the engine, put the car into gear and drove. He was quiet, only giving her directions across London to where he lived. When they reached it, she pulled the car to a halt in a space outside and stared at the building. It was a beautiful pale Georgian four-storey townhouse.

“You live here?” She couldn’t quite bring herself to believe it. She had never figured Lukas for a moneyed type. He had never once looked as though he had more than a few hundred pounds to his name.

Lukas nodded and got out of the car, not waiting for her. Had she put him in a bad mood? Her eyes followed him. He was walking in a straight line, not wavering at all, and seemed sober now. If he kissed her again, she wouldn’t be able to resist him anymore. She wouldn’t have a reason to.

Annelie stepped out, locked her car, and hurried across the quiet road to him. He waited at the black front door of the building, his gaze on her again. She stopped at the bottom of the steps, waiting for him to say something. All he had to do was invite her in. If he invited her in, she would take it as a sign that she hadn’t messed anything up and that he still wanted her.

His eyes held hers for what felt like hours and then he spoke.

“I just want to be clear about one thing. I did not kiss you because of the drink.” He glanced away and then met her gaze again. “There is a reason I like to sit at the bar and talk to you, Annelie. There is a reason I kissed you.”

He looked as though he had wanted to say more but she didn’t give him a chance. She ran up the steps, threw her arms around his neck and kissed him again. He stumbled backwards into the door and wrapped his arms around her waist, his tongue delving into her mouth and duelling with hers. This was Heaven. She couldn’t hold in her moan.

Lukas fumbled with the door behind him and they fell into the entrance, still locked in each other’s arms, their mouths fused in a kiss that drove Annelie crazy with hunger. She moaned again and kissed him harder, pouring out her passion and need into it until it became choppy and rough, a clashing of lips and teeth. Lukas’s groan sent a wave of heat scorching through her and she gasped into his mouth when he grabbed her backside. She hopped and wrapped her legs around his waist and he hit the wall with her, pinning her there, his body hard against hers and making her tremble with the images of them that flashed through her mind. She wanted all of them to happen right now, this instant, wanted to live out every hot dream she’d had of Lukas.

“Which floor?” She managed between kisses, too hungry for him to break contact for more than a second.

“Fourth.” There was a laugh to his voice that brought out her smile. He kissed her again and turned with her, heading for the stairs. Was he serious? He couldn’t carry her all the way to the fourth floor while kissing her.

Lukas seemed intent on proving her wrong. He held on to her, his hands grasping her backside, his body shifting between her hips in the most delicious way, and kissed along her jaw as he took the steps two at a time.

Snippet Saturday – Circle in the Sand – Excerpt from Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 5)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Circle in the Sand – featuring warm weather / the great outdoors.

This week the snippet is from the fifth book in my Her Angel romance series, Her Demonic Angel.

Erin walked the shore hand in hand with Veiron. She had wanted to go straight back to their villa and make love with him but he had insisted that they walked a while, and while she had been annoyed at first, she was glad that he had suggested it. It was strangely peaceful on the empty beach under the moonlight, Veiron’s fingers locked tightly with hers, his large hand engulfing her smaller one and keeping the chill off her skin. Palms fringed the sweeping shore and the warm water washed over her feet, the sound of the shallow waves steadily puncturing the near silence. The noise of people at the complex was nothing but a distant hum this far along the beach. The only competition the waves had was the occasional party at one of the villas and they had left the last of them behind a few metres back.

A breeze blew in off the ocean, carrying the scent of saltwater, and Erin shivered.

Veiron stopped, untangled their hands, and wrapped his strong arm around her, pulling her against his bare chest. Erin snuggled into him and looked up, meeting his gaze. His eyes were black in the moonlight but not dark. They were warm and soft, full of feelings that she felt mirrored in her own heart.

She lifted her hand and cupped his cheek, sweeping her thumb over his lower lip. She wanted to tell him again to be careful when he went to Hell but couldn’t find her voice, didn’t want to spoil this moment between them. It wouldn’t be their last. Nothing would happen to Veiron. Marcus would go with him and together they would be safe.

Erin kissed him instead, tiptoeing and gently capturing his lips. She kept it light, bare brushes of her lips against his, her emotions running wild with her. Veiron surprised her by doing the same, sweeping his mouth over hers and holding her close to him, his hands gentle against her back.

He drew away, breathing hard as though he had run for miles rather than stood still on a beach and kissed her. She was breathless too, alive with emotion and warmth, with all of her feelings for Veiron.

“I keep thinking about something,” he said and he sounded so serious that she pulled further away so she could see his face. He smiled wickedly. “Hot tub.”

Erin laughed. “It’s like you read my mind.”

His smile became a grin and he slipped his hand into hers, entwining their fingers, and started back along the shore with her. She walked beside him, letting the waves lap at her feet. Obviously she wasn’t walking quickly enough for Veiron’s liking because suddenly the world spun before her eyes and she was staring at his backside.

“Hey.” Erin punched his bottom and sighed to herself. So firm. The man had buns of steel.

“You’re slowing me down again,” he said with a smile in his voice.

His backside shifted as he strode purposefully along the beach with her slung over his shoulder and the cute dents either side of his spine on his lower back called to her. Erin hooked her hand into his belt, pushed herself up to relieve the pressure on her organs and fingered one of the dips with her free hand. Veiron practically purred.

The world whirled past her again and she was in his arms, cradled close to his chest.

“Damn, woman, you drive me crazy,” he growled and then kissed her, hard and rough, so passionate that her knees would have buckled had she been standing.

Erin wound her arms around his neck and returned the kiss, trying to make him growl again. He kept striding onwards and she had to wonder how he knew where he was going. Some sort of supernatural awareness of his surroundings?

He cursed under his breath and she looked down to see he was knee-deep in the sea. Maybe not. Erin giggled. Veiron growled. Not the sort of one she had wanted to hear. This one was born of frustration rather than desire.

“I said you drive me crazy, that includes scrambling my senses until I can’t think straight around you… fuck, I need you, Erin… tell me you’re mine. Tell me you’re only mine and I’m the only one you want in all the three realms.” The look he gave her was pure animal hunger and Erin melted, her blood heating to a thousand degrees, burning for him. “Tell me and I will swear to you that I am yours, now and forever.”

Heavens, could this man get any better? He growled, snarled and fought like a wild thing, like a warrior, but he had the heart of a poet. A heart that she was beginning to think now belonged to her.

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel with new sneak peek and other book news

I’m still working on the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL.

I didn’t manage to get the book completed in first draft before I went on holiday to Italy. I took it with me on my Kindle though, and after reading a couple of books by another author, I began reading it over to reacquaint myself with the novel. I finished reading it on Tuesday morning and I’m very pleased with it so far. I’ve just sent over the first 30,000 words of it to some beta readers to see what they think of it and get working with them on it.

The turnaround on this novel is pretty tight but I’m hoping that I can get it out in September / October this year. I had wanted it out at the start of September, but due to the funk I was in for the first part of the year (and I’m still struggling to shake), it’s going to end up pushed back or it will turn into a rush job and I hate rushing my work. You guys deserve the best quality read I can give, and that means I need to do things right and take my time with the editing and proofreading of the book.

I’m hoping that I can get the book completed next week, and then it will have to rest for a period before I can begin editing it. Having read over the first 110,000 words of the novel, I know it’s in very good shape already and just needs some minor work to boost the description in places, up the tension and drama, and inject more of that emotion I love pumping into my books.

I’m not sure what I will be writing once I have a break from Her Wicked Angel. I’m debating whether to begin work on editing the first Eternal Mates book, or work on the next Vampires Realm book. It’s hard to say which it will be. I should write another Vampires Realm book, but my heart isn’t in it right now. My muse wants me to write new series and new worlds, and I think that’s because I’m concerned that at 10 books, the Vampires Realm series has become too big for many readers’ tastes, and it puts them off reading it… even though it’s a series where the majority of the books work as stand alone novels. It always makes me sad when I have to make the tough decisions – writing what will get sales and new readers versus writing what I would love to write in an ideal world where I didn’t need to pay bills, feed myself, my cat and other things. I don’t think it helps that I feel I should write the next Vampires Realm book. Whenever I feel pressurised into writing a book, my muse instantly clams up and gives me hell. Maybe I can fool him into cooperating by reading over the notes for the book and pretending that my schedule really isn’t that bad that if I write another book from scratch, as opposed to editing one I already have written, I probably won’t have another release after Her Wicked Angel this year.

Eep!

Here’s a new teaser from Her Wicked Angel… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

Liora dropped her gaze to his. “Will you fly me somewhere?”

Asmodeus looked beautifully startled, his eyes going round and falling to her body. A touch of colour crept onto his cheeks and his pupils expanded, gobbling up the gold in his irises. Was he thinking about carrying her when he looked so flushed with desire?

A warm shiver raced through her blood and she swept her tongue across her lips, not even bothering to deny that she felt that same burst of desire whenever she raked her gaze over him, even when she knew she shouldn’t.

He nodded. “Where?”

Liora turned and pointed towards Sacre Coeur where it stood on the hill in the distance, the three white domes of the grand church illuminated by golden light. “There. It will get quieter there as night falls.”

His throat worked on a hard swallow and he opened his thickly muscled arms to her. “I will fly you there.”

Liora slipped the strap of her small black bag over her shoulder so it fell across her front and took a deep breath as she stepped into his arms. Serenity was going to kill her for this but she didn’t care. Something about Asmodeus had her going against convention and everything she knew she should do. She felt a connection between them, a link she had never experienced with another, and she felt as if she could be wild and free around him and he would never judge her or tell her what to do.

He would let her be herself.

He would be right there with her.

He bent at the knee, slipped one arm beneath her knees and the other behind her back, and effortlessly lifted her into his arms. She settled her right palm against his chest and stared into his eyes. They were even more beautiful up close. Flecks of black and rich amber swirled amongst liquid gold. His heart thundered against her palm and his breathing quickened as she continued to look deep into his eyes.

Awareness grew within her, stealing her focus away from the world until it was all settled on him. She could feel his large hands pressed into her ribs and clutching her knee. She could feel his powerful body pressing against her side, shifting with each heavy breath. Each of those breaths washed over her, moist and sweet, bringing her heart to a gallop.

His power flowed around her, a protective shield that allowed hers to recede for the first time in what felt like forever.

She had never felt so safe, not since her parents had died.

Asmodeus would protect her.

Her gaze drifted down the straight slope of his nose to the firm line of his lips, and they parted to reveal blunt white teeth.

“Hold on,” he murmured, his deep husky voice sending a shiver of heat across her skin, and she couldn’t resist snaking her hands around his strong neck and teasing the ends of his black short hair. He gritted his teeth, his jaw tensing, and a quiet growl escaped him.

His fingers flexed against her, drawing her closer, and she felt wicked because she liked how he clutched her as if he was never going to let her go.

She was playing with fire.

The Hell kind.

The problem was, she didn’t care if she got burned.

What do you think?

Teaseday – Excerpt from Masquerade (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 10)

Today’s tease comes from the book Masquerade, which is the tenth book in my popular Vampires Realm romance series. Read on for this Tuesday’s tease…

Vivek nursed his flute of blood. It had gone cold thirty minutes ago, around the same time that he had finally managed to locate Sophis. She had disappeared after he had first set eyes on her and he had lost her in the crowd. When he had found her again, she had been with Lord Hyperion’s group, held tight in the Validus vampire’s arms as though he was protecting her from the temper of Lord Valentine. Vivek had taken a step forward, intent on tearing her away from Lord Hyperion, before he had got the better of himself. Hyperion could kill him with a single blow and Sophis was unlikely to thank him for his heroics.

Sophis had escaped the powerful vampire’s grasp shortly after that and the man had said something to her that had changed her expression of anger to one that held a note of sorrow or loneliness. She had stood there alone for a few seconds before turning to watch the dancers with an edge of longing. Did she want to dance too?

She was dancing now, although she didn’t seem to like her partner. Vivek was close enough to the edge of the dance floor that he recognised the man as the Chosen Son of the Nocens bloodline, a vampire of considerable age and power. Sophis was alluring as she spoke to the man, saying things that Vivek couldn’t hear, and he wanted to dance with her too, wanted to cut in and claim her as his partner.

She looked so beautiful and elegant, turning on the dance floor, the long train of her scarlet dress caught up in one hand, revealing enough of her white stockings to make him ache to know how the soft fabric would feel under his fingers. The candlelight played on her hair, highlighting each curl pinned and tumbling from the back of her head with shimmering gold threads.

The music shifted and Vivek was so lost in watching her that he missed his cue. Sophis twirled out of the Nocen vampire’s arms and into those of a tall man wearing black.

Vivek growled.

He knew that man. If he hadn’t recognised him from the years that they had seen each other in this mansion, he would have known him from Sophis’s reaction.

She dipped her head as the man spoke to her, a smile on his face and warmth in his ice-blue eyes, and she nodded, her mouth barely opening as she responded, as though she was too shy to speak loudly in his presence. They turned together in circles, Sophis allowing him to guide her and move near to her, letting him break proper etiquette by coming close enough that their bodies brushed with each step. The man spoke to her again and she didn’t look him in the eye as she answered. Her reaction to him turned Vivek’s stomach and made him feel as though this man had total power over her and she would do whatever he wished.

Her sire.

Why did he have to come back now? He had been away for decades, only speaking through letters to Sophis, telling her of his travels and experiences. He rarely returned for the balls when the Venia hosted them. Why now, when things between him and Sophis were so precarious?

Had she sent for him?

Had she told her sire about the things he had done to hurt her and her sire had come to see her?

Vivek couldn’t bear it when the dark haired man touched her face, laying a gloved hand on her cheek, and ran it down to caress her jaw and lift her head. She didn’t resist him. She raised her chin and then her eyes, looking straight into the man’s, and Vivek snarled under his breath as the man leaned in and kissed her cheek. Sophis didn’t push him away. She simply closed her eyes and accepted the brief brush of his mouth across her flesh, and remained with her head tilted up to him when he drew back. It took long seconds for her eyes to open again and she glanced away when he spoke, blushing without the flush of colour on her cheeks.

The crystal flute in Vivek’s hand shattered under the pressure of his grip, causing several people nearby to start and turn towards him. He shook his hand, ridding his palm of fragments of glass and the cold blood, and stared at Sophis and her sire. She was smiling at the man, chatting animatedly to him now, but a shy edge still touched her masked face. Vivek clenched his fist again, felt the trickle of his own blood between his fingers, and fought for restraint and failed.

He wasn’t going to stand around and let her sire sweep her away.
