Zingerman’s Detroit-Style Pizza
One of the twenty seven reasons I need to get back to Detroit as soon as possible is – PIZZA.
Bready baked, crisp edged, pepperoni dotted, cheese pulled, sweet and savory sauce – PIZZA.
This version of city pizza is different from a Chicago deep dish or a New York slice. Gloriously different. I think of it as a lightly doughy, caramelized cheese bread topped with a sweet and herby tomato sauce.

What are your Autumn projects?
I was riffling through my closet this past week looking for something with a sleeve. It’s been three degrees less than a million degrees here in New Orleans which means Autumn is upon us.
Every season I go digging through my closet hoping to assemble some sort of haphazard capsule wardrobe for the coming months, hoping that I have enough classic and and comfortable clothes to keep any shopping to a minimum.

Let It Be Sunday, 138!
Hello my dear friends! Welcome to this Sunday. I hope the weekend is treating you well. This week was plenty. The world is plenty, you know? In the news we know that Trump is picking thin-skinned and unpresidential fights with professional athletes, North Korea thinks it’s time to flex its muscles and we’re all like… REALLY?, the earth is shifting and shaking and collapsing buildings and lives, wind and island destruction, displacement in Myanmar, UN business, Facebook political ads… it’s all very much.

Rolled Jam Buns with Sour Cream Glaze
I saw a lovely lady riding her bike through New Orleans today. The sunlight was low and behind both of us in that comforting way that says the day is almost closed and we’re all headed home to take off our bras and make butter pasta. She was riding her bike wearing a dress and I had split second of jealousy thinking, gosh, I don’t do that nearly enough. I’ve forgotten that as one of life’s very simple graces.

Let It Be Sunday, 137!
Sweet, friends. Thank you for such a lovely reception in Portland this week. It filled my heart to meet each of you! Truly. Those are real words. Today I’m making chocolate cakes, 10… if all goes according to plan for Secret Supper on Sauvie Island in Oregon. I have a feeling it will be deeply charming, despite (or perhaps because of) the impeding rain. I’m stressing making these cakes, but tomorrow will pass and somehow get done.

Brunch Cocktail In A Can: Micheladas
We made it! If we were working for the weekend, it looks like the weekend has finally cozied up next to us for a spell – not a moment too soon.
I wrote the book on brunch… and if not the book on brunch, certainly a book on brunch. Does my inflection translate?
In Over Easy you’ll find a recipe for a Michelada For Many.

One-Pot Lamb and Spinach Meatballs with Orzo
How do you fair with this transition of seasons? September has always felt like the most clunky month of the year to me. It’s a time when I need to really pay attention to my feet on the ground- walking through the world with purpose because my brain wants to float on up.
Also, I’m listening to a lot of 90’s Alanis Morissette, if that gives you an idea of where my head is.

Let It Be Sunday, 136!
Hello sweet friends! These days have been a doozy and I just want you to know- I appreciate that you take time to spend a few moments in this space. I know I’ve said it before but I never take it for granted. We have the great privilege of holding one another and we can not forget it.
Here’s some weighty links from the week. Not all the weighty links because, just because.

Vanilla Bean Bundt Cake with Pecan Praline Glaze
Here’s a staple. Here’s a go-to. Here’s a show-stopper. Here’s a pat on the back. Here’s a thumbs up, a high-five, a surprise kiss on the mouth. This cake is one of the best I’ve ever made… just one of those solid gold, stand-bys that WERK.
It’s a shout out to New Orleans, a shout out to dang good cake, and maybe my favorite recipe in this month’s Better Homes & Garden issue featuring all sorts of fantastic Big Easy-inspired recipes.

Let It Be Sunday, 135!
We’ve got fires and floods and smokey skies and swampy days and we’re going to make it through all of them.
I hope you are happy and safe this week. Enjoy this long weekend, we deserve the rest before we push through this last part of the year.
• I’ve seen this in New Orleans more than any other place I’ve lived — When it comes down to it, people don’t turn away from one another.
