Sherry Jones is an American journalist and internationally best selling author of the controversial "The Jewel of Medina" and other historical fiction novels about women's power. She is also a speaker on issues including women's rights, free speech, and Islamophobia.

Her forthcoming novel, JOSEPHINE BAKER'S LAST DANCE, features as its protagonist the 20th-century African-American entertainer Josephine Baker, who was born in the slums of St. Louis, made her fame on the Paris stage at 19, worked as a spy during WWII, and became an important civil rights activist in the United States. A comedian, nude dancer, chanteuse, opera diva, and film star, she was the

She lived such a fascinating life, freewheeling and wild and so full of love, yet she suffered such heartache when life denied her the one thing she wanted most. She went on to become a courageoua war hero, awarded the French medal of honor, and one of the U.S.'s first outspoken desegregationists, even sacrificing her career for the cause!(less)

Even historians haven't been kind to her, calling her weak, manipulative, etc., but i saw her as very courageous. My decision to take her down the Nile just after childbirth to negotiate her husband's releaae with the Egyptian queen Shajar-al-Din did the trick, I think, and Beatrice's memory of her blugeoning a crocodile with an oar.

Speaking of Beatrice, she was the most enjoyable to write. As the bratty baby of the family, she took on a snarky tone and developed a ruthlessness that made me laugh. I rubbed my hands with glee whenever it was her turn in the story, eager to unleaah my inner bitch!(less)

Listen to your intuition! You know, that inner voice telling you when something isn’t right–and when it is? It’s not easy to do, especially at first. Like a muscle– and like the doll in the girl’s pocket in the “Women Who Run With the Wolves” story–intuition gets stronger the more we use it. I learned the hard way how to listen to mine.

Nearly six years ago, I met a man and Pow! Instant attracti...

“How many times in life have I been advised to "toe the line," to "tone it down," to stop "pushing the envelope"? As a journalist, I had to keep my opinions to myself for 30 years. I thought that, as an artist, I'd have the liberty to express my views. Now I'm told that doing so might hurt my readership.

I'm so idealistic, as I said elsewhere on FB today, that I think people ought to read my books because they're good. Period.”

“In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.”
