The Stonewall Jackson Shrine

I have lived in the south for fifteen years. During that time, I've made an untold number of drives back north. NECON road trips, visits to see family or friends, fantasy baseball drafts, work - whatever. It's always the same route: Up 85 to 95 and then head for the smell of carbon monoxide* from the traffic around DC. And every time I make the trip, I drive past some of the more notable Civil War sites out there. Chancellorsville. Petersburg. Fredericksburg. Spotsylvania. All of these are ha...

Things I Do Not Care About No Matter What TV Tells Me

In no particular order:
Jennifer Aniston's love lifeJohn Mayer. Really, anything to do with John Mayer.Anyone who is, is married to, has slept with, worked with, known, or been introduced to a Kardashian. Sorry, Bruce Jenner, you're dead to me. Nice Wheaties box, though. What Lady Gaga is wearing. The fact that replica gold coins coated with nearly a micron-thick layer of actual gold are available for sale for a limited time.Unfounded accusations that a baseball player has done...

Random Musical Thought

If Lady Gaga is the new millennium's Madonna, then Ke$ha is its Stacey Q.

SR vs SP

Best tchotchke of the show, incidentally, goes to the unstoppable Rhianna Pratchett, who made up buttons that read "Story Robot" and "Script Paramedic".

And no, you can't have mine.

GDC and Suchlike

There are, I believe, five stages of GDC attendance.

Stage One: I'm at GDC!
Stage Two: I'm at GDC! Oh God, I hope I can get into the Microsoft party!
Stage Three: I'm at GDC! I must be a real pro, because I got an invite to the Microsoft party!
Stage Four: What night is the Microsoft party again?
Stage Five: Wait, the Microsoft party was last night?

(I kid, I kid. It's a great party.)

Another GDC is in the books. What happened? Not much sleep. Unfortunately, all of my writing-themed programming was ...

Name Company, Win Cookies

Attention all those with a sweet tooth. My ridiculously talented sister is looking for a name for her consulting firm, specializing in developing nonprofit organizations. She is also a professionally trained pastry chef. Which means that if you come up with the name she chooses for her company, she will make you cookies. Lots and lots of cookies.

In other words, it's a contest. Come up with a name, respond here (or email it to me) by Sunday night, and the one who comes up with the golden name ...

Road Trip Pix

From the Malmo - Copenhagen run (not to be confused with the Kessel Run, which I can complete in under twelve parsecs. Or something.)

Upcoming Book Review

I just got an ARC of Thomas Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against Humanity. If there's a prize for "most depressing book I will read this year", this sucker's the clubhouse leader.

And no, I'm not taking it on the plane to GDC with me.
