Spotted on the Underground Last Night

Posters.

Lots of 'em.

Posters for musicals, most of which seem to be revivals or based on the complete catalog of pop/rock bands of wildly varying relevance. I mean, David Essex? Seriously?
Posters for mobile phones.
Posters for bands, many of which I've only heard of because I got bored about bought the execrable "100 Greatest Frontmen Ever" issue of Q.  (Also known as the "We get to say nice things about Oasis, U2, Coldplay, Queen and Paul Weller again" issue)
And posters advertising fabulous 3-...

The first plane in

Spotted out the window of the Underground car as it slid past Tunham Green, three lights in the sky. Nothing else up there - the city's too bright for stars, the moon was hiding behind clouds, and everything was a basic black.

Except three lights in an arc, heading westward and down.

Hotel Brownian Motion

There's an interesting migration going on in London. All the folks who normally populate the business hotels out by the airport either fled south early on Eurostar, or have realized they're not going anywhere and have therefore moved into digs in the city, the better to actually be stranded in actual London. This, in turn, has opened up all sorts of rooms at the airport hotels, with predictable results: go on Priceline and name your own price with "the loose change I found in my jeans before...

Change of Venue

Now decamping to the Sheraton Heathrow in hopes of being able to spring into action in case a flight opens up.

In the meantime, I'll be working from my hotel room. Neither volcanoes nor air traffic bans nor airborne particulates can halt the march of gamedev, by gum.

Not going anywhere

This is what I get for being disappointed at not seeing Mt. Ranier up close when we went to Seattle.

Lovely Weekend, Future Uncertain..

...internet time at a premium.

Suffice to say I am taking advantage of my time stuck in London both to write and to see friends whom otherwise I would have missed on this trip. Tomorrow, I hopefully catch a plane home. If not, I work from my hotel room. Either way, what happens happens. Getting upset over an act of nature isn't going to get me home any faster.

Worse places to be stuck...

...than London. I'm here through at least Monday, depending on ash cloud-related issues.

But if you're going to be stranded for an indefinite period of time, there are far worse places to do it than London.

Saturday's Wilmington Signing Canceled

The volcanic eruption in Iceland has shut down all air traffic in England, and therefore Richard is trapped on the wrong side of the pond. He will be stuck there at least until Saturday.

Two Sisters Bookery is holding another book signing on the same day, so all is not lost for those you who are local. They have also graciously offered to re-schedule. We will be posting that information as soon as it is available.
