TOM VEK CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF WE HAVE SOUND

WE FOUND SOUND REMIXED OUT OCTOBER 2, 2025

Buy / Stream: Tom Vek - C-C (Dave Glass Animals Remix)
https://orcd.co/20_years

JULY 10th, 2025—Today marks a landmark release from multi-instrumentalist and creative iconoclast Tom Vek, who celebrates 20 years of his cult classic debut album We Have Sound, with the announcement of a 10-track remix album, We Have Sound Remixed, on StrataSonic Records. Set for release later this year, the album features a stacked lineup of artists whose own sonic identities trace back to Vek’s genre-hopping, DIY spirit — including Glass Animals, alt-J, Everything Everything, Baths, Porij, and more.

Leading the release is “C-C (Dave Glass Animals Remix),” out today — a joyously warped take from Dave Bayley of Glass Animals, who credits We Have Sound as one of the albums that inspired the band to start making music in the first place. “Joe from our band would obsess over the drumming," says Dave. "I would obsess over the production. We had the posters in our rooms. And the vinyl. And he had the t-shirt. I didn’t, and I was jealous. That album was one of several responsible for us going on to make our own music. ”

The upcoming album is a rare kind of tribute, curated by Vek himself, with each artist handpicked and invited to reinterpret the record that helped shape their creative DNA. The result is a celebration of We Have Sound not only as a pivotal album of the 2000s, but as a blueprint for the fusion of guitar music, DIY electronica, and sharp-edged pop that now defines a generation of UK and alternative acts.

I’ve been a big fan of Glass Animals since their debut, and how incredibly lush the production was. When the 20-year date was rolling round, I was thinking “what am I going to do? I was thinking about how to make it feel new, for me at least, and it hit me – remixes. When Dave sent it over, I almost couldn’t believe it because he’d given it a ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’ era Timbaland vibe, which is an album I ferociously studied, trying to make the follow-up to We Have Sound, determined to make something that sounded like “My Love” but just couldn’t. I love that he’s focused on the chorus vocal line and emphasises the layered BVs. I immediately played this about 20 times, which is the sign I always look for, so grateful to Dave.”  — Tom Vek

With contributions from alt-J’s Gus Unger-Hamilton, Everything Everything, Porij, Is Tropical, Anna Prior, Dutch Uncles, Baths, Vivid Fever Dreams, and Coby Sey, this project cements Tom Vek’s role as a cult figure whose music remains eerily current — and deeply influential — two decades on.

We Have Sound Remixed will be out in its entirety on October 2 on StrataSonic Records.

MOLLIE ELIZABETH REVEALS "DOE EYED" MUSIC VIDEO FROM DEBUT DIRTY BLONDE EP ON NEON GOLD RECORDS / VIRGIN

RISING PACIFIC NORTHWEST ARTIST
MOLLIE ELIZABETH DEBUT
DIRTY BLONDE EP
OUT ON NEON GOLD RECORDS / VIRGIN HERE

“DOE EYES” MUSIC VIDEO (dir. MAYA SASSOON) OUT TODAY HERE

MOLLIE CO-PRODUCED DIRTY BLONDE EP WITH DEAN REID (LANA DEL REY, MARINA) + CO-WRITTEN WITH REID AND CASEY SMITH (OLIVIA RODRIGO, ASHE)

Following her debut EP Dirty BlondeMollie Elizabeth delivers a visually stunning music video for “Doe Eyed” (dir. Maya Sassoon) today, available HERE. The 21-year-old Washington State-based artist Mollie Elizabeth released her debut EP via Neon Gold / Virgin Music, known for her whimsical, melancholic, and empowering songs, the Pacific Northwest artist describes her music as “tiny worlds”, a refuge shaped by her upbringing in the Washington woods, suffused with old-Hollywood elegance and emotional depth. Mollie co-produced her newest song, “Doe Eyes”, along with her Dirty Blonde EP with Dean Reid (Lana Del Rey, Marina) and co-written with Reid and GRAMMY-nominated Casey Smith (Olivia Rodrigo, Ashe, Benson Boone).

Mollie adds: “I have always had a bad habit of romanticizing things/people that are now lost to time. This song is really the anthem for all the girls and guys out there who just can’t help but think one more night might be a good idea- even though it’s definitely not!”

Pre-save Mollie Elizabeth - Dirty Blonde EP

Last month, Mollie released “Until We Meet Again” - a dusky, cinematic ballad steeped in Old Hollywood glamour. With a rare blend of chic elegance, playful confidence, and sincere sweetness, she infuses the track with timeless allure. The single was produced by Dean Reid (Lana Del Rey, MARINA) and co-written with Reid and GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Casey Smith (Olivia Rodrigo, Ashe, Benson Boone).

Earlier, she revealed her second track  “Dinner For One”, (co-produced by Dean Reid and written by Casey Smith) along with a perfectly matching music video (dir. Maya Sassoon).

In January, she introduced herself with her first viral song, “Vegas Venetian”. Elizabeth adds: “To me, every melody is a tiny world that invites you in—an invitation to be both fierce and delicate, and to celebrate who you are, who you have been, and who you are becoming. My music isn’t just for listening—it’s for wandering, for imagining, and for finding a piece of yourself in a place you’d forgotten.”

Early Praise for Been Stellar

“a suite of cataclysmic anthems” - Pitchfork

“Steely Post-Punk” - Rolling Stone

“A raw and magnetic sound that strikes mercilessly” - Paste Magazine

"a howl of an indie rock record, wearing its scrapes and bruises proudly and sounding like it was made in the dark alley equivalent of a studio...This city may not be the same, but Been Stellar’s music fondly recalls the days when things were cheaper and scarier." - Brooklyn Vegan

"a glowing, crackling set of songs that balances moments of frenzied melancholy (“Sweet”) with bits of chaos and urgency (“Can’t Look Away”)." - Alt Press

"develops perfectly on the post-punk ethos from which the band hails, but infuses it with a spaciness and shoegaze vibe" - Consequence

"Post-punk has lately been inundated to the point of oversaturation, but Been Stellar proves that this subgenre hasn’t lost its luster quite yet" - Uproxx

"Been Stellar celebrate the spirit of New York City with moody, charging alt rock." - Bandcamp

“The album will chew you up, spit you out, and disorient you, and once you’re back out, withdrawals from the pandemonium will make you want to do it all over again"- DIY

“A thriller from start to finish, Been Stellar’s ‘Scream from New York, NY’ is one of the most assured indie rock debuts to land on our desk this year” - Clash

Today, New York’s Been Stellar have shared “Adored,” their second single of 2025 following last month’s “Breakway.” The single comes on the heels of a breakout year that saw the band release their debut album Scream from New York, NY via Dirty Hit, tour with The 1975 and Fontaines DC, and pack out clubs on their own merit. In stark contrast to the blistering “Breakaway,” “Adored” sees the band expanding their already thrilling sonic palette, incorporating new dynamics and layers of acoustic guitar.

“The distance between experience and song feels pretty slim on this one, which makes me a bit uncomfortable, but ultimately very proud,” says vocalist Sam Slocum. “I remember when we recorded it I really didn’t want to listen back because of how personal it felt, but now I see this song as a real artistic benchmark for us.”

The band just made their Primavera debut, and completed a run of EU dates including three stops with Fontaines DC. Next month they’ll support Wunderhorse at Warsaw in Brooklyn, before heading abroad again for a run of headline shows and festival dates at Pukkelpop, Green Man, Reading & Leeds festivals.

WATCH VIDEO FOR PREVIOUS SINGLE “BREAKWAY

Scream from New York, NY is a remarkably brutal debut – bruised and volatile, it captures an image of ‘20s New York that’s unrelenting and harsh, where tenderness is a finite resource burned up by the machinery of the city and human connection is a luxury product. Leaving behind the driving shoegaze of their early recordings, the NYC-based five-piece tap into the disaffected sound and spirit of New York luminaries like Sonic Youth and Interpol, as well as the nihilistic, yearning cool of Iceage and Bends-era Radiohead, striking upon a sound that’s fearsome, buffeting and beautiful at the same time – a tidal wave as viewed from underneath.

As its wry title implies, Scream from New York, NY, is a record about what happens when language fails – between friends, partners, a city and its citizens – and the primal scream you might let out when words just don’t work anymore.

Preceding the album release, Been Stellar shared a handful of standout singles including the  white-knuckled and cutting “Sweet,” the ferocious late-album highlight “All In One,” the masterfully dynamic “Pumpkin,” and head turning lead single "Passing Judgment."

Like so many other dyed-in-the-wool New York bands, Been Stellar are transplants. Guitarist Skyler Knapp and vocalist Sam Slocum first met in their freshman year of high school a decade ago; members of the cross country team, they bonded over the band t-shirt Skyler was wearing and decided to start jamming together. In Michigan, they started performing under the Been Stellar name, but it wasn’t until the pair began studying at NYU that a sound started to coalesce and the band took shape.

Determined to break new sonic ground, the band embarked on a relentless practice schedule, even renting scrappy studios on days off during tours with Fontaines DC and Shame. After befriending him at SXSW, the band tapped producer Dan Carey (black midi, Wet Leg) to help coalesce the disparate elements of their sound that had been percolating: forceful, driving physicality; pop classicism; gnarled beauty; and a rich emotional core. The resulting 10-song album announces Been Stellar as gimlet-eyed chroniclers of contemporary youth, staring through noise and confusion into the dark heart of modern life. These songs embody the spirit of a city that makes and breaks its inhabitants on a daily basis - an irony befitting the album’s tone: Been Stellar’s preternatural ability to capture the disconnection that haunts New York with photorealist detail might just be the thing that vaults them into its pantheon.

Been Stellar is Sam Slocum (vocals), Skyler Knapp (guitar), Nico Brunstein (bass), Gigi Giobbi (drums).

New York City-based band Native Sun today have announced that their new album Concrete Language will be released on September 19th via TODO. They've also shared raucous new single "No" and have announced a North American tour supporting Bass Drum of Death, which includes dates at NYC's Baby's All Right (10/4) and Washington, D.C's DC9 (10/8). "No" is accompanied by a Justin Barry and Conor Cunningham-directed video and follows previous singles "Squash" and "I Need Nothing," which earned support from Rolling StoneFLOODDORKThe Line of Best Fit, and more. Native Sun will also be embarking on a headlining EU tour later this year, and are set to play two NYC shows on July 13th at Tompkins Square Park and Our Wicked Lady. Full tour routing is below, you can buy tickets here.

"‘No’ captures the tension of trying to hold on to yourself while the world is pulling you in different directions," the band explains. "It’s the feeling of swinging between overload and emptiness, between faith and disillusionment. You’re searching for a foothold while the ground keeps shifting beneath you.”

Native Sun masterfully blends elements of garage rock and art rock with the energy of early punk. On "No," the band channels unrest through sharp contrast–quiet restraint cracked open by explosive bursts, blurring the lines between control and collapse. It was produced, mixed, and additionally recorded by Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Bodega, Snail Mail, The Drums), mastered by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound, and engineered by Jeremy Snyder.

"No" is out today via TODO. Concrete Language is out September 19th.

"Brimming with a natural romantic flow as catchy rhythms float over a lush but energising soundscape, Yali unfurls a personal story translated into beats, melodies and poignant lyricism."
-Earmilk

"The singer’s innate grasp of sound design sees her work with a number of incredible producers, interlacing their electronic artistry with her virtuoso vocals. Technically gifted, she blends this with an urge towards communication, framing her work with emotional appeal."
-Clash

"The listening experience is inspiring and haunting, with catchy and empowering melodies going hand-in-hand with Blank’s honest and authentic lyricism."
-Mesmerized

"With a broad and dynamic aesthetic heightening her beautifully alluring vocals from start to finish, she is setting the standard for today's alt-pop incumbents right now."
-Lock MagSinger and producer Yael Blankstein, aka Yali Blank, is one of the most unique artists to appear in recent times on the Electro-pop scene. Today, Yali Blank is sharing her new single "Carousel."

Blending electropop with UK garage and DnB textures, the track was written after a period of emotional detachment and burnout, exploring what it feels like to move through life on autopilot.

"I wrote 'Carousel' after a time in my life when everything felt numb," Blank explains. "I was going through the motions, smiling at parties, dancing in clubs, but completely disconnected inside. The song is about that strange emotional loop — when you're spinning around and around but not really feeling anything. It’s glossy and upbeat on the surface, but underneath there’s a quiet scream for something real."

A childhood cancer survivor, Yali creates music that fearlessly merges technical precision with emotional rawness. “Carousel” pairs glossy production with lyrical honesty. It invites listeners to move, feel, and unravel — all at once. Blank has been featured in MixMag, CLASH, Earmilk, Kaltblut, and more. She's generated 1.3 million streams on Spotify & Apple Music, while also securing sync placements on Netflix and HBO.

"Carousel" is out July 10th via all DSP's.  Yali Blank - "Carousel" Yali Blank Bio:

Singer and producer Yael Blankstein, aka Yali Blank, is one of the most unique artists to appear in recent times on the Electro-pop scene. She began writing songs at a young age while still learning in a conservatory for classical piano. Soon after, she learned composition, production, and sound design.

Delivering a live experience closer to performance art, she carves out beats from keyboards and synthesisers, improvising each one to accompany her soft vocals. Writing for leading brands, advertisements and media stations, Yali’s sound has been found on Netflix shows and prestigious blogs.

Yali is a childhood bone cancer survivor. She continues to draw experience and inspiration from her bout with the disease, as she keeps on pushing her limits and boundaries. Her energy on stage is in stark contrast to her permanent disability that affects her mobility. Strength, ambition, focus, and self-esteem are where she decides to fight. Disability has no dominance in her life nor her vision of music.

Alt-pop artist & producer ROHAN basks in unconditional love on "Precious" out now

SAN FRANCISCO/MELBOURNE

ALT-POP ARTIST & PRODUCER

ROHAN

BASKS IN UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF ALL KINDS

ON ACOUSTIC-MEETS-SYNTHY "PRECIOUS"

OUT NOW–LISTEN

WATCH VISUALIZER BY MARK KOHR

Melbourne/San Francisco alt-pop artist & producer ROHAN basks in unconditional love on "Precious" out today with a vibrant, Bay Area-set visualizer. Breezy and tender, the feel good tune captures unconditional love outside of romance–from pets, to family, to best friends.

Light ukulele strums mix with electric guitar textures and stirring synths to evoke a magical yet grounded, serene sense of calm. ROHAN shares, "I wrote it about my dog, Kosta, but it’s really about unconditional love in its purest form. The kind that doesn’t ask for much back but still changes you. I sing: 'You are my precious, not quite my kind, but I have found a way for words to make sense to you.'

ROHAN continues, "That line sums it up — how love can exist even when you’re wired completely differently from someone. Whether you’re a partner, a parent, a sibling, or a pet owner, that feeling of giving your whole heart without needing to explain yourself — that’s what this song is chasing."

Produced by himself, the artist and producer was influenced by Billie Eilish’s production style, with her keen ability to blur softness with unease. On the production, ROHAN says,"I wanted that tension: warmth wrapped in something just a little bit unsteady. It’s the kind of love that makes you feel seen and safe — but also kind of vulnerable."

Watch "Precious" (Official Visualizer)

The visualizer, shot with longtime collaborator Mark Kohr (Shakira, Green Day), captures that mood across placid Bay Area landscapes — open roads, quiet nature spots, and fleeting moments between stillness and motion. ROHAN adds, "There’s no storyline — just feeling. 'Precious' is about whatever bond makes you feel safe enough to ask, ‘Do you love me too?’ even when you already know the answer."

Earlier this year, after receiving encouragement via TikTok from Beabadoobee, ROHAN shared the confessional "I Wish I Could Tell You" where he yearns for closure over a hooky guitar loop. Several tastemakers praised the track, including Unheard Gems, who wrote, "a refreshingly honest approach to bedroom pop..feels both familiar and uniquely his own." Envi Media added, "Sepia toned distant love crooned from 2000s John Mayer, Gin Blossoms and 2020s keshi, and Dominic Fike." On the visual, From The Intercom added, “The visuals match the raw sound of the song with cool tones and nostalgic cinematic views." The track was added to Spotify's Fresh Finds in Australia and New Zealand, and Apple Music's heartache playlist.

"Fizzy," shared last month, is a nostalgic, punky tune that sinks into the messiness of a bad breakup. Off The Record Press wrote the track is, ".dangerously loud and impossible to ignore. ROHAN perfectly delivers a heartbreak anthem that feels like equal parts of a journal entry and live-wire performance. Punchy guitar work and live-band energy..raw, frustrated, and emotionally exposed vocals."

ROHAN was raised by Indian parents between Australia and Singapore and was introduced to music through Australian Idol and Green Day's American Idiot. After high school, he moved to California and attended Stanford to continue exploring his love for technology and music. Recently opening for Devon Again proved to be a cathartic moment as the pop artist was a shared love of ROHAN and his former love. Now, out of his own studio in San Francisco and pulling inspiration from Australian indie rock bands like Skeggs, 90s R&B like Lauryn Hill and contemporary pop artists like Dominic Fike, he's ready to officially introduce himself with his own blend of Australian indie rock with R&B, electronic and folk influences that form his self-produced confessional alt-pop anthems. Earlier this year, ROHAN supported Chappell Roan's favorite pop artist, Devon Again at her sold out San Francisco show.

Wrapped in warmth and the joy of safe, easy love, ROHAN's "Precious," out now, unfolds like a smooth summer day. Connect with ROHAN on InstagramTikTok and YouTube and stay tuned for much more to come from the rising artist.

ABOUT ROHAN

ROHAN was an Australian kid with big dreams. It's thanks to his Indian mum that he picked up the piano; the rest is history. His subsequent love for punk via Green Day's American Idiot led him to exploring computers and fronting bands out of Melbourne & Singapore. He later moved to California to pursue those childhood dreams and dropped out of Stanford to build both his own studio in San Francisco along with a gaming company. The home studio is where he blends the laid-back grit of Australian indie rock with R&B, electronic, and folk into confessional alt-pop anthems. Self-produced and genre-defiant, his songs journal true stories of heartbreak, vices, and self-discovery—fusing raw guitar riffs, sincere vocals, and laptop-crafted loops.

HAERTS RETURN - ANNOUNCE LAGUNA ROAD TO COME OUT 10.3 + RELEASE "WOMEN ON THE LINE" TODAY

HAERTS RETURN
ANNOUNCE LAGUNA ROAD TO COME OUT 10.3

A FOURTH ALBUM FRAMING A CONFESSIONAL PORTRAIT OF FAMILY, MEMORY, AND THE SACRED MESS OF GROWING A LIFE TOGETHER

FIRST SINGLE “WOMAN ON THE LINE” with JENN WASNER of FLOCK OF DIMES, OUT TODAY HERE

Today, the indie pop duo Haerts, return with the announcement of their fourth album Laguna Road, which will be released October 3rd. Thematically, the album frames a confessional portrait of family, memory, and the sacred mess of growing a family together.

Along with the album announcement, they released the first piano ballad “Women On The Line” with Jenn Wasner of Flock of Dimes HERE. The quietly powerful, heart-on-the sleeve lyrics in “Woman On The Line”: So don’t you tell me to be happy. I’m just a woman on the line. And don’t you tell me not to lose it. How could this be the best of times…are accompanied by a heart-stirring composition."

The duo, composed of Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert, wrote and recorded the album at home on Laguna Road, in the in-between spaces of everyday family life. They left the house in early 2025, having completed the album, to return to New York.

About “Women on the Line”, Nini Fabi explains: “The song is about taking ownership of my story and the choices that shaped me as a woman. It’s about the distance between how things look and how they feel - the pressure to keep it together while inside your world is coming apart.

It’s about isolation, acceptance, and the fragile nature of truth, and it came from a moment when I let it all fall apart.”

“Laguna Road is about looking back, a “piecing it together” album. Sonically we moved away from what we had done on our previous records. We wanted this album to feel raw and vulnerable. The songs move slowly and we leaned into that with a light hand on production.” adds Benny Gebert.

Nini Fabi explains: “I was sitting on the steps at Laguna Road, the house we had just moved into with our daughter. On paper, I had everything: a beautiful family, a home with the lemon tree, the hummingbirds, and the piano in the living room. But I was numb, isolated, and anxious in a way that felt permanent. I was at the edge of my thirties and on the verge of some kind of breakdown, and I kept asking myself how I had ended up here."

In the coming months, more singles will be shared leading up to the full Laguna Road album release on October 3rd.

About Haerts:
Haerts is the creative union of singer/songwriter Nini Fabi and multi-instrumentalist/composer Ben Gebert - a duo born in Munich, Germany, and artistically reborn in New York City. Lifelong collaborators, Fabi and Gebert, began weaving songs together as teenagers under the name Nini&Ben, a prelude to what would later become Haerts.

After moving to Brooklyn, they signed with Neon Gold and Columbia Records, where their debut single “Wings” took flight in 2012, becoming an early blog-era anthem and receiving heavy rotation on KEXP and SiriusXM. Their first EP, Hemiplegia (2013), produced by St. Lucia’s Jean-Philip Grobler, further revealed their luminous sound. The track “All the Days” was featured in the 2013 film Carrie and was crowned “Song of the Summer” by Elle magazine - a testament to the duo’s cinematic sensibility and emotional pull.

Their self-titled debut album HAERTS (2014) followed to critical acclaim, establishing the band as masters of melancholy-drenched pop - intimate yet expansive, nostalgic yet timeless.
With a voice like a memory and music that echoes wide open spaces, HAERTS has toured across the U.S. and Europe, sharing stages with London Grammar, Rhye, Washed Out, Shout Out Louds, and Michelle Branch. They’ve performed at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and Governors Ball, carving out a space for their ethereal anthems on the world’s biggest stages.

In 2016, they released POWER/LAND, a visual EP made in collaboration with artist Julian Klincewicz (Beyoncé, Virgil Abloh, Miu Miu), blending analog film and dream-pop textures into a multidisciplinary narrative. Their creative partnership continued with the evocative video for “For the Sky,” a song featuring Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear that was hailed for its haunting beauty.

Their second and third albums - New Compassion (2018, Arts & Crafts) and Dream Nation (2021) - delved deep into themes of personal evolution, longing, and spiritual endurance, reflecting the band’s ever-growing emotional landscape.

Haerts’ music has found a lasting home in pop culture, with placements in Good Grief, Moonshot, 13 Reasons Why, Love, Simon, Pretty Little Liars, Grey’s Anatomy, and Hightown. Their live performances have graced The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS), Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC) and further cemented their role in the modern indie canon.

In 2020, Gebert released his solo album, Triptych, via Arts & Crafts, a meditative and minimalist work that was nominated for a Libera Award. Two years later, the duo left the city and relocated to Pasadena, California. There, at a house on a quiet stretch of Laguna Road, a new chapter began. It’s from this place - sun-washed and soul-searching - Haerts’ fourth forthcoming album Laguna Road was born. Moving further away from the synth sounds of their earlier albums, the music on Laguna Road - centered around its confessional lyrics and warm, introspective vocals - is a fusion of minimal instrumentation and expansive string arrangements.

Bobby Gillespie, Chris Spedding, Charlie Musselwhite & Kid Congo Powers guest on TAV FALCO's 'Desire on Ice'

THE STARS ALIGN FOR TAV FALCO’S DESIRE ON ICE

Bobby Gillespie, Kid Congo Powers, Chris Spedding, Rev. Horton Heat, Jon Spencer, Charlie Musselwhite, and Ann Magnuson are among the guests on this career-spanning collection of reimagined originals written by Falco over the past four decades

First digital single, “Doomsday Baby,” featuring Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, is released today;
Desire on Ice album follows September 12 on Org Music

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | July 10, 2025 — The songwriting of Southern rock ‘n’ roll provocateur Tav Falco will be celebrated on his 14th studio album, Desire on Ice. With basic tracks recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Services in Memphis, Tennessee, Desire on Ice was created over an 18-month period by Falco and his longtime producer and musical partner, Mario Monterosso. Undoubtedly the most ambitious project in the artist’s 40-plus-year career, Desire on Ice features an astonishing lineup of all-star talent who are sympatico with his singular flair and vision. The album will be released on LP, CD and digital formats by Org Music on September 12. Pre-order now at Org Music.

The first digital single, “Doomsday Baby,” features guest vocals by Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream. The song appeared in its original form on Falco's 2015 album, Command Performance, but its themes of political tumult and emerging authoritarianism now sound even more urgent and prophetic.

Listen or purchase “Doomsday Baby.”

“The concept for Desire on Ice was developed by Mario after having lived with my music for a long time,” says Falco, “that of rendering these original songs — written solely by me, others in musical collaboration — with newly-evolved treatments. Although sui generis in their original forms, these songs now manifest in unlikely ways.”

The oldest song on the album, the live favorite “Cuban Rebel Girl,” dates to 1986. Desire on Ice also features one new original, “Crying for More,” as well as a “Prologue” and “Epilogue” conceptualized and developed by Monterosso.

The lineup of featured players on Desire on Ice is impressive. The sessions were anchored by the members of Falco’s current touring band, Panther Burns: guitarist Mario Monterosso, bassist Giuseppe Sangirardi, and drummer Walter Brunetti. The guests include Ann Magnuson, Nicole Atkins, Jolie Holland, Bobby Gillespie, Pete Molinari, Kid Congo Powers, Jon Spencer, Rev. Horton Heat, Jimmy Rip, Chris Spedding, Boz Boorer, Richard Barone, Eddie Angel, Bubba Feathers, Chris Maxwell, Charlie Musselwhite, Mirko Dettori, Kai Eric, Rene Coman, Bertrand Burgalat, Alex Greene, Michael Perry Allen, Jim Sclavunos, and Ross Johnson, among others. Memphis writer and longtime Panther Burns confidante Robert Gordon has contributed new liner notes for the release.

“I began my collaboration with Tav in 2014,” recalled Monterosso. “After many tours and recording five records with him, I feel like we’ve built something special over this decade. Desire on Ice represents my vision of Tav Falco, and the evolution we’ve made together.”

ABOUT TAV FALCO:

Musician, filmmaker, performer, and all-around cultural conjurer, Tav Falco moves with ease between Memphis juke joints and Weimar cabarets, blends tango, vocal jazz, rockabilly, and noir Americana into a personal mythology, and does it all with a wink and a streak of cultivated danger. His soul is part Neapolitan, part Southern gothic, part Buenos Aires café, and part backroom of an old Paris cinema. Falco has written books, directed films, and embraced African American and Argentinian traditions with equal curiosity. He has been fronting Panther Burns since 1979 — a loose vehicle for outcasts, hipsters, and other beautiful misfits.

(July 9th, 2025) - Soulwax, consisting of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, announces their first studio album in seven years All Systems Are Lying due October 17th via DEEWEE / Because Music. The announcement arrives alongside a brand new double A-side single: the album’s title track “All Systems Are Lying” and its counterpart, “Run Free."

Described by the brothers as “a rock album made without any electric guitars,” All Systems Are Lying was built entirely from modular synths, live drums, tape machines and processed vocals. It’s a fractured mirror held up to modern society on the brink — where truth is distorted by filters, algorithms and noise. “We wanted to capture the feeling of a band playing electronic instruments — live, loud and loose” shared David & Stephen. “This record is the result of that experiment”

Lead track “All Systems Are Lying” opens like a corrupted transmission — glitching, taut and full of warning. “Run Free” flips the tension into something driving and euphoric, propelled by rhythm and release - One leans into the energy of a live band, the other into the pulse of the dancefloor — two sides of the same Soulwax coin.

The duo has spent more than two decades quietly building a creative universe: a band (Soulwax), djs (2manydjs), a record label (DEEWEE), and a sound system (Despacio, alongside James Murphy). They are widely regarded as one of the most forward-thinking remix and production teams of the 21st century — known for their meticulous studio craft, boundary-breaking live shows, and projects that challenge what a band can be.

Having toured constantly throughout 2024 with both headline shows and multiple festival dates (where eagle-eyed fans may have spotted early glimpses of new album material) this year, Soulwax have already delivered blistering sets at Kappa Futur (Turin) and Rock Werchter (Belgium). They now continue their summer run with appearances at Junction 2 in London (July 27th) and Lokerse Feesten in Belgium (August 2nd), bringing their high-intensity live show — complete with three drummers — to more festival stages across Europe.
