"Over producer Inflo's steady break beat and surging streaks, [Little Simz] displays command of her punchy rhymes with a cadence so casual it feels as if she could deliver them in her sleep."
NPR
(June 20, 2023) - Following the recent announcement of her North American tour, Little Simz returns to share a new music video for "Gorilla" from her highly praised album, NO THANK YOU, via AWAL. This latest offering also coincides with the physical release of the album, which is now available on CD & Vinyl via www.LittleSimz.com.
Little Simz tapped legendary director Dave Meyers to shoot the music video for the standout single that Pitchfork called a "retort against rap game bullshit," while simultaneously noting that her performance on “Gorilla” was "the loosest Simz has sounded in years." Little Simz has also partnered with Microsoft to create an interactive and truly unique experience for the viewer.
Powered by Microsoft Cloud and AI, the interactive music video combines imagery, colors and effects to compose a video that is different every time you see it. The specific details of the video are selected based on AI-assisted analysis of the song’s lyrics combined with the users’ selection of favorite lyrics and themes. Rather than distracting the audience from her sonic prose, the Azure Open AI models analyze the video's creative layers to amplify her artistic range and message. The video will change in real time as the user expresses interest in different parts of the song, creating a one-of-a-kind interactive way to watch a special performance of the song.
Fans can also partake in this immersive experience in real life as installations will be launching tomorrow in Los Angeles and June 22nd in New York and London. Speaking of immersive real life experiences, Little Simz is set to take off on her North American tour later this fall. Starting on September 20th in Chicago the 10-date tour sees her hitting major cities across the continent for the first time since 2019.
Check out the interactive “Gorilla” video on gorilla.littlesimz.com and the full tour details below. Also, be sure to check with your local retailer or www.LittleSimz.com for NO THANK YOU physicals as well. Stay tuned for more from Little Simz.

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES
AN EXCLUSIVE EVENING OF FILM, TALK & PERFORMANCE

Today José González has announced a run of special North American live events that will highlight the recently debuted documentary, A Tiger in Paradise.
These unique live experiences will consist of a screening of the documentary, a curated talk with José and film director Mikel Cee Karlsson and a live performance where he will play some of his most personal and popular songs. Full dates are listed below. The artist pre-sale begins tomorrow, June 21st at 10:00 AM local time and tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM local time.
A Tiger in Paradise is produced by the multiple Academy Award nominated and Palme d’Or winning film company Plattform Produktion (Triangle of Sadness & The Square) and directed by José’s long time collaborator Mikel Cee Karlsson, who has directed many of José’s music videos and also directed the 2010 film The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González. The new film is described as “a visual journey into José González’s inner world of thoughts and shadows, an intimate look at the creative, sharp and fragile mind behind the music.”
The screening of the film will be followed by a conversation between José González and director Mikel Cee Karlsson, where they make a deep dive into the themes raised in the film, how it all connects to José’s music, lyrics and worldview and tie it all together with the live performance of some of José’s most personal and popular songs.
“I’m very excited to present this event together with Mikel. He’s been great at picking up subtle ideas in the music and in our conversations, to bring them to life in my music videos, and now this documentary. This hybrid event will be great to invite the fans even more into the themes in the film and some key songs, but also my personal history which I haven’t shared in this way before,” says José González.
Director Mikel Cee Karlsson adds: “The goal with this hybrid event is to create a special collective experience together with the audience, where the film, live show and performance gives a unique insight into José’s mind and music. Something that cannot be experienced anywhere else - outside of these venues.”

SELECT LIVE PRESS QUOTES FOR THE TO SPITE OR NOT TO SPITE TOUR
"Yves Tumor’s live performance was nothing short of a religious experience.” - PARKLIFE DC
"Sean Lee Bowie, better known as Yves Tumor, is an artist who’s been marked by rapid growth, quickly expanding beyond their origins in the experimental music world into becoming a multigenre straddling maestro.” - PHOENIX NEW TIMES
"As a queer Black person, seeing swaths of Black kids (both in and out of trademark goth attire), sharing the experience of Tumor's whirlwind performance was deeply uplifting. When I was in high school, watching a performer like Tumor while surrounded by people with similar identities would have felt impossible — last night, they opened up a whole new world. “ - EXCLAIM
Yves Tumor has announced a panoply of new dates for their tour, To Spite or Not To Spite, including a US run in October (including their first headline shows in LA and NYC since the release of the album) and a UK and European leg in November. The dates are in continued support of their recently released and acclaimed masterpiece Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds), an album that showcases Yves Tumor's continually evolving artistic perspective, presented as a hypnotic combination of captivating melodies, unconventional compositions, and mesmerizing lyrical craftsmanship. In anticipation of the impending run Yves has shared a new music video for album standout “Operator,” which is a playful take on a lyric video, combining whimsical stop-motion graphics with starred appearances from Yves Tumor alongside song vocalists Mowalola and Fresh Jame of Nation (Year0001). The video is created by student Isabela Tellez, whom Yves had originally discovered from her using “Operator” in an inspired work of fan-driven art earlier this year.
Yves and their intoxicating live band recently completed the first half of the tour, which kicked off with a pair of universally praised Coachella performances and concluded with widely heralded showings at Primavera Festival. In the intervening months the tour yielded a barrage of fervent responses from critics and fans alike, praising the band’s provocative, bombastic live performances that hearken back to an era when rock music still felt dangerous. The album continues to garner critical accolades, recently surfacing on a slew of mid-year Best Of lists ranging from Pitchfork, to Uproxx, to Stereogum, to Consequence (who named it Album of the Year so far), to Exclaim, and beyond.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter-bassist Karina Rykman has announced plans for her biggest headlining tour thus far. “Joyride Tour 2023” begins September 20 at Brooklyn, NY’s Baby’s All Right, and then travels the US through mid-December. Special guests include Guerilla Toss (September 21-November 4). Artist presales begin Wednesday, June 21 at 10:00 am (local) and continue through Thursday, June 22 at 10:00 pm (local) – Password: JOYRIDE2023. “Joyride Tour 2023” celebrates the upcoming arrival of Rykman’s hugely anticipated debut album, JOYRIDE, arriving via AWAL on Friday, August 18. Pre-orders are available now. The album was first heralded earlier this month with the premiere of the first single and title track, “Joyride.” Equal parts thick bass, ethereal synths, disco-funk guitar, and silky, inviting vocals, the track – which features signature lead guitar from JOYRIDE co-producer Trey Anastasio – expertly captures Rykman’s jubilant brand of sonic exploration, bridging an array of genres to arrive at her own compelling and original take on psychedelic indie rock.
LISTEN TO “JOYRIDE”
PRE-ORDER JOYRIDE
Hailed by Relix for her “ability to captivate audiences with her distinctive style and remarkable talent,” Rykman will further mark the arrival of JOYRIDE with a typically busy summer schedule, including top-billed performances at such North American festivals as Salt Lake City, UT’s Utah Arts Festival (June 25), Scranton, PA’s Peach Music Festival (July 1), Thornville, OH’s Secret Dreams Music & Arts Festival (August 17-19), Cockeysville, MD’s Hot August Music Festival (August 19), Indianapolis, IN’s All In Music & Arts Festival (September 9), Mundelein, IL’s The Miracle In Mundelein (September 10), Fredericton, NB’s Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (September 15), and East Aurora, NY’s Borderland Music Festival (September 17).
Born and raised in New York City, Karina Rykman’s musical path began in her early teens playing in bands whenever she could while attending a veritable ton of live music as a fan. Her prowess on the bass guitar soon landed her a number of high-profile television gigs spanning America’s Got Talent to backing up pop star Julia Michaels on TODAY. By the end of her senior year at NYU, Rykman’s talent and infectious spirit saw her invited to join pianist Marco Benevento’s band (as recommended by Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz), with whom she performed countless shows including dates with Vulfpeck, Dispatch, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Guster, and many more.
Rykman soon formed her own namesake band, accompanied by Adam November (guitar, loopers, effects) and Chris Corsico (drums). She quickly earned a reputation as a mesmerizing, unmissable live act, lighting up an array of international stages with headline sets, show-stealing festival performances (including Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, and Sweetwater 420 Fest), shows alongside Khruangbin, Guster, and The Disco Biscuits (among others), and recent appearances sitting in with the 8G Band on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
That same spellbinding power was soon captured on a series of independent singles, including “Elevator” and the million-streaming “Plants,” both of which have now been newly enhanced for JOYRIDE. Written and recorded with childhood friend, producer Gabe Monro, the album serves as a vivid canvas for Rykman’s vibrant expression and chameleonic songcraft. JOYRIDE features Trey Anastasio as co-producer and featured musician, contributing guitar on five of the album’s nine tracks.
The collaboration is the outcome of a happenstance encounter when both artists performed at 2021’s Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA. Anastasio took a profound interest in being a part of Rykman’s debut album, offering the use of his storied Vermont studio, The Barn, along with the suggestion to work with renowned mixer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Swans, Ramones).

Sprain Announce New Album for The Flenser, ‘The Lamb As Effigy or Three Hundred And Fifty XOXOXOS For A Spark Union With My Darling Divine’
Sprain Announce New Album for The Flenser, The Lamb As Effigy or Three Hundred And Fifty XOXOXOS For A Spark Union With My Darling Divine
Their sophomore full-length will be out September 1st. // Listen to the walloping, noisy album opener “Man Proposes, God Disposes” now.

“angular, explosive, and unpredictable at every turn” - AV Club
Since its formation in 2018 by like-minded Calarts students Alex Kent (guitar, vocals), April Gerloff (bass), and Sylvie Simmons (guitar)— plus the recent addition of Clint Dodson (percussionist)— Los Angeles quartet Sprain has honed its signature flavor of experimentalism to a razor-fine point. Gradually moving from twisting conventions in its early works of minimalist slowcore to transcending the confines of genre altogether, Sprain’s evolution over the past several years has encouraged the band to embrace a sound true to its muse. With its latest record, The Lamb As Effigy or Three Hundred And Fifty XOXOXOS For A Spark Union With My Darling Divine, the band has translated this intent into an ambitious work that pairs its resplendent scale with uncompromising honesty towards the band’s artistic and conceptual essences.
Album opener “Man Proposes, God Disposes” charges forward immediately with its progressing tension and tempo reminiscent of accumulating guilt, with equally emboldened and affecting lyrics. The single sets the tone for the record, spanning bellowing howls, emphatic spoken word, and nuanced croons. Guitarist/vocalist Alex Kent’s dynamic vocal delivery adds texture to these meditations on otherwise immaterial topics and the meaning or the lack thereof they embody.
Listen / share "Man Proposes, God Disposes" on YouTube.

The most extraordinary of art isn't created without its fair share of trials, of which Sprain faced numerous during the recording process of The Lamb As Effigy, with the sum and circumstances of them nearly sealing the album’s fate in limbo. With obstacles including session reschedulings as a result of a line-up change and a major studio electrical failure at the last possible moment, a mixing process that demanded the organization of several years of material across four separate studios, and the recording of the actual songs pushing the members of Sprain to their own physical limits, there were several times where the band considered scrapping the whole thing altogether. But Sprain persevered, applying the knowledge and willpower derived from those struggles to get The Lamb As Effigy across the finish line.
Clocking in at nearly two hours, The Lamb As Effigy resembles an aural parallel to the human experience itself, with all the glorious beauty, crushing brutality, and unexplainable chaos that comes with it intact. Explosions of earth-sundering guitars, angelic keys, swirling strings, and bursts of improvised electronic noise coalesce to weave a visceral yet unique sonic tapestry bearing hints of no-wave, sound collage, 20th-century avant-garde, and free jazz. Tying everything together is an evocative approach to lyricism that, while rooted in the boundaries of the lived experiences of Sprain’s members, deconstructs these concepts through poignant absurdity.
The Lamb As Effigy will be available September 1st from The Flenser and is available for pre-order here.

“Bounce” – which was teased in recent days by a viral series of social media posts – heralds the long-awaited release of Oliver Tree’s upcoming third solo album, ALONE IN A CROWD , arriving September 29. The album will also feature his most recent RIAA certified hit “Miss You.”
Undeniably a one-of-a-kind artist who continues to top the charts and sell out amphitheaters worldwide, Tree satisfies his dedicated and growing audience with Kaufman-esque Dadaist, “meta-humor” while continuing to explore and dissect the absurdity of modern culture, obsession with fame and social media. ALONE IN A CROWD serves to reflect both the light and the darkness of human nature within popular culture, while holding a mirror up to us all and embracing the absurdity of it all. Exploring themes of loneliness, disconnect, and the human experience, ALONE IN A CROWD also introduces a new character named Cornelius Cummings, a fashion designer who sets the runway for his latest body of work.
ALONE IN A CROWD is out September 29 – PRE-ORDER/SAVE HERE.
Oliver – who lit up last week’s Governors Ball in New York City with a top-billed, typically show-stealing performance – will celebrate the impending arrival of ALONE IN A CROWD with his biggest headline show to date, “Oliver Tree – The World’s Tiniest Tap Dancer – Live At Red Rocks,” a once-in-a-lifetime concert event set for tonight, June 20, at Morrison, CO’s world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Currently Spotify’s 77th Most Listened To Artist with more 35M monthly listeners, Oliver wrapped up his very busy 2022 with the long awaited release of Cowboy Tears Drown the World in a Swimming Pool of Sorrow, an expanded deluxe edition of his acclaimed sophomore LP, Cowboy Tears, available now HERE. Shimmy-Disc has announced the forthcoming release of a brand new record, Ponder Machine, the heady new concoction from banjo virtuosos JD Pinkus (Butthole Surfers) & Tall Tall Trees (Mike Savino), due June 30. The new LP — which contains the spirit of high mountain bluegrass, laden with profound and somewhat sinister depth — is introduced with the following:
Take a Deep Dive into their secluded mountain stream, but beware the rapids and hang tight to your tube! That heretic howl is not in your imagination, and yes, the ancient trees may shift slightly as you rocket past, just enough to offer a glowing glimpse into the strange new world illuminated by a pair of passionate, psychedelic banjo masters.
If a trembling string fails to find its traditional fret, the network of fungi beneath your feet may be alerted by the wanton sounds of SpaceGrass (or is it 'SlowGrass' ?) shifting magnetically in the cosmic blue-lit forest. Watch out for boiling soils beneath your feet. Hold tight in that brainy space between your ears - better just lay back and enjoy the long slow slide.
Ponder Machine - Release Bio:
If you've been wondering what it might sound like when two alt-banjo giants join hands & strings and sell their souls at the crossroads, Ponder Machine (due June 30, 2023 via Shimmy-Disc) is an essential listening experience.
In August of 2022, Kramer parachuted into Asheville, North Carolina to record a mysterious LP of collaborative banjo studies by JD Pinkus & Tall Tall Trees. Pinkus is best known as the bassist who replaced Kramer following his exit from the Butthole Surfers (and his years with The Melvins), and Joyful Noise Recordings artist Tall Tall Trees (aka Mike Savino) is a stunningly talented multi-instrumentalist, known for his work with Kishi Bashi, along with his pioneering excursions into the world of his Banjotron 5000.
Within hours of Kramer's arrival, things got entirely out of hand (in exactly the manner he had hoped), and the results are sure to rewrite the way people see, hear and THINK about the banjo. Ponder Machine proves in a thousand ways that the possibilities are limitless, and the extra 30 minutes of music you get when you buy the Cassette version (or download the digital-only tracks) just hammers the point home. There is method to their madness. Listen closely and you will hear it.
Think John Cage meets Bela Fleck meets Brian Eno. The banjo has never been chewed up and spit out so lovingly. JD Pinkus brought his mushrooms and effects pedals. Mike Savino brought his sourdough and his psychedelic street-smarts. Sweet dreams, y'all.
On the recording of the LP, Savino wrote:
"The unlikely-hood of two traveling one man psychedelic banjo bands living on the same hill in Asheville, North Carolina is well, possibly less rare than in other places, but a definitely a good start to a one-liner.
Having JD Pinkus and Kramer in my studio for 10 days during a record setting August heatwave has permanently altered my consciousness. We began recording with the semblance of a plan and soon abandoned that plan to chase rabbits. I honestly cannot remember recording much of this music, not due to substance or faulty memory, but because I completely let go. I became a spectator. The entire record feels like a collective fever dream and I will cherish the time we spent making it for a long long time.
I no longer want to think about music, I just want to do it. I don’t even remember."

Jeff 'JD' Pinkus is an American bassist best known for his work with American punk band Butthole Surfers from 1985 to 1994 and since the 2009 reunion. In 1990, he and Butthole Surfers' lead vocalist Gibby Haynes released Digital Dump, the only album from their psychedelic house music side project The Jackofficers.
Upon leaving Butthole Surfers, Pinkus worked full-time with the Austin trio Daddy Longhead, which he had assembled during his waning months in the band, and which included longtime Atlanta associate Jimbo Young on guitar and Rey Washam on drums. Daddy Longhead retired after 10 years, leaving Pinkus free to explore other projects including Skinny Leonard and Areola 51. Pinkus played with Helios Creed on his albums NUGG: The Transport [1996] and Activated Condition [1998], and has also collaborated with Bad Livers frontman Danny Barnes several times in a live setting. JD Pinkus then co-founded the band Honky who went on to record five albums and are still currently active. Pinkus also performs with Pure Luck, who released a self-titled release in 2017 on Heavy Feather Records. He leaves his bass to play Banjo and Guitar in this project.
On their 30th anniversary tour in 2013, Pinkus joined the Melvins in place of Jared Warren (on paternity leave), in addition to performing with the opening band, Honky. He subsequently joined the Melvins full-time, touring with them in 2014 in support of the album Hold It In, which also featured Butthole Surfers founder Paul Leary, and again in 2015. He also plays on the song "Captain Come Down" which was first released in 2015 on Chaos as Usual, a split release with Le Butcherettes, and later included on the 2016 album Basses Loaded.
In 2018, JD Pinkus released a solo album, Keep on the Grass, on cassette tape via Danny Barnes' Minner Bucket Records and later, on vinyl and Compact Disc through Heavy Feather Records. It was recorded entirely on banjo and features a rendition of the song "Bride of Crankenstein" from the Melvins album Hold It In. The Keep on the Grass album release show was with Sleep in San Pedro on September 15th 2018.
Later, the Melvins announced that Pinkus would be joining them, alongside current bassist Steven McDonald (Redd Kross), on their next album and subsequent tour. Released on April 20, 2018, the aptly titled Pinkus Abortion Technician features both bass players and four songs written or co-written by Pinkus. In May of 2021, JD Pinkus and Daddy Longhead released another album titled Twinkle, which was originally recorded but not distributed in 1998.
Last year, JD Pinkus is released his second solo “space grass” banjo album titled Fungus Shui. The album was written, recorded, and mixed by Pinkus himself at Plastic Cannon Studio in Asheville, North Carolina. The album was mastered by Kramer. Fungus Shui was released on Shimmy-Disc on August 20th 2021.
