Trentemøller Debuts New Single with Jonny Pierce of The Drums
Trentemøller Debuts New Single with Jonny Pierce of The Drums
Third Full-length Album Lost Due Out This Fall
European Tour with Depeche Mode Underway
Watch the Video for 'Never Stop Running (feat. Jonny Pierce of The Drums)' at Noisey
Danish electronic artist Trentemøller has debuted a brand new 7" single 'Never Stop Running (feat. Jonny Pierce of The Drums)' with Noisey to kick off a set of European dates from London to Germany where he was handpicked to open for Depeche Mode. The track is taken from his forthcoming third album,
Lost
, out this September on his own label In My Room. 'Never Stop Running' pulsates with Trentemøller's unique production while melding together with Pierce's expressive vocals. The video captures the vibe of the tune through the direction of cinematographer Frederik Jacobi, who took a camera to Los Angeles to "listen" to people and capture moods to blend with the visual space of the video.
Trentemøller, the alias of Anders Trentemøller, "transcends genres with cinematic scope" says NME who describe his "captivating complexity" of his music and sound design. It's been a long and exciting way from his debut LP, The Last Resort, alongside projects like The Trentem øller Chronicles and Remixed/Reworked , to his second record Into The Great Wide Yonder , which gained praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, SPIN, XLR8R , and more. The musical evolution of this Danish musical mastermind on his forthcoming third album was not a linear progression, but one characterized by twists and turns along with his development of a full live band that has toured the globe with great success.
After a groundbreaking performance at Coachella in 2011, which had Yahoo! calling him the "ultimate underdog, stunning all onlookers and becoming the toast of the fest...the biggest revelation of the entire weekend," Trentemøller embarked on a set of coast-to-coast US tours with his full live band, featuring guest appearances by expert theremin player Dorit Chrysler and Coco Sumner (I Blame Coco), concluding with the band's late night TV debut on Late Night with Carson Daly. Stay tuned for more details on Lost and Trentemøller's return to the US to follow.

Jake Bellows's Debut Solo Album New Ocean Out August 6 On Saddle Creek
Jake Bellows's Debut Solo Album New Ocean Out August 6 On Saddle Creek
Watch: New Ocean Album Trailer via YouTube
On August 6, Neva Dinova frontman Jake Bellows will release his debut solo album New Ocean. The album was recorded at Omaha's ARC Studios with engineer Ben Brodin (Before the Toast and Tea, Conor Oberst), Ryan Fox (The Good Life), Todd Fink (The Faint), and Heath Koontz (Neva Dinova). New Ocean is now available for pre-order on CD & LP via Saddle Creek and limited edition cassette through Majestic Litter. The album's trailer, which includes an interview with Jake Bellows, is available to post and share via the Saddle Creek YouTube page. Summer tour dates are in the works. Look for dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
Jake Bellows had quit music. Or so he thought. After fronting Neva Dinova for more than 15 years which included five full-lengths, a split EP, and countless tours, he packed up his dog and moved from his native Omaha to his girlfriend's hometown of Los Angeles. Two days before he left he recorded 18 demos with musician and engineer Ben Brodin at Brodin's insistence. Once in L.A., Bellows got a job installing sliding-glass doors and sold his Les Paul to buy a Datsun pick-up truck.
Though he had no plans to form a new band, he played the occasional solo show, performed with Whispertown, and continued to write songs. In early 2011, an invitation arrived from Omaha's Film Streams Theater for Jake's old friend Ryan Fox also living on the West Coast, to perform an original live film score. Fox enlisted Bellows and Brodin to collaborate and the trio began to compose and discuss improvisational ideas over long-distance. Since they were all going to be in Omaha and had a long history of playing in each other's bands, Brodin and Fox nudged Bellows into booking studio time to record some of his dormant songs.
Fox and Bellows drove from LA to Omaha that November in a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle that didn't have heat, a speedometer, a fuel gauge, seatbelts, or radio. They made it as far as Lincoln, NE, before the car caught fire at 4 in the morning. Later that week the trio performed the score to The Adventures of Prince Achmed. That weekend, they entered ARC Studios for a feverish recording session, arranging and writing parts on the fly with an impromptu band including Heath Koontz, Todd Fink, Whispertown bandmate Morgan Nagler and other old friends. Committing quickly to intuitive arrangements the band recorded 17 tracks in a little more than a week. They worked remotely on the record throughout that winter and spring, adding overdubs in basements and bedrooms across western North America.
The group reunited in Omaha to debut the new songs at a couple of shows one week the following June. Excited to release the new material on their own terms the band put out a preview EP on cassette, Help, at the end of 2012. The new music is underpinned by philosophical conviction and shaped by an interest in physics, cosmology and mythology. Bellows returned to music with a renewed sense of the intrinsic value of art and its ability to express the commonality of human experience. His debut full-length, New Ocean, offers a mix tape of different kinds of songs hanging out on one record - love songs that are not necessarily ballads despite their introspective gauziness, with left turns into drunk-in-the-sun bossa nova and blue-eyed-soul ruptured by fuzz guitar. Bellows believes that songs change the fabric of the universe through the very frequencies they emit. As such, the record attempts to create the world he wants to see instead of reflect the world that is. "Our theory of the beginning of the universe is the big bang - a sound," Bellows said. "What gave birth to the universe is our one tool that we can change the universe with."

GRANDCHILDREN RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR "END TIMES"
GRANDCHILDREN RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR "END TIMES" PREMIERED VIA PASTE
CURRENTLY ON U.S. TOUR THROUGH JUNE
"As grand and celebratory as it is earnest and solemn" - Consequence of Sound
"The spirited don't-define-me sound of Grandchildren is drifting and meditative in its cinematic splendor and filled with sudden, unexpected right turns that surprise and delight." - Spinner
"[Grandchildren's] glowing indie-electro-rock will warm your rain-chilled soul and soften your summer heat-hardened heart" - WXPN
Ernest Jenning Record Co. is pleased to announce the release of Grandchildren's new video for "End Times," off their latest album Golden Age. The clip premiered via Paste and is available for posting HERE . Director Meagan Jenigen describes her choice to use stop-motion claymation, stating "The first few lines bring me imagery of personal apocalypse and questions of cosmic reality. Working with these themes and surreal imagery inspired by the music, I used experimental animation techniques to address many layers of transformation, death, and rebirth."Grandchildren recently began a U.S. tour in support of Golden Age, their sophomore release, which was produced by Man Man's Chris Powell and Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog). The tour includes dates withHands, Yip Deceiver, Hooded Fang, The Fleeting Ends, Caravan Palace and more.
Grandchildren began in 2008 as the solo recording project of Aleks Martray, forging intricately layered arrangements with only an acoustic guitar, a mic and a loop pedal. Since then, it has evolved into a 6 piece pop-orchestra known for its high energy live performances featuring dueling drums, circuit bending electronics and an instrument swapping horn section. On stage, the tiny 5'3" frontman remains stoic, at the eye of the storm, encircled by a whirlwind of animated instrumentalists, belting out melodies in a voice that defies his own stature. Martray attributes Grandchildren's eclectic sound to his nomadic upbringing in a military family across Europe and the US and his journeys throughout Latin America as a young adult:
"I think when you live and travel all over the world from such a young age your mind constructs a sort of map that is an amalgamation of all of these different worlds. I see the music as a soundtrack for this puzzle-like landscape that otherwise would exist only in my head."
As their 2010 debut album Everlasting aimed to piece together the feel of various places, their new record attempts to collage together various points in time. Golden Age reads like a scrapbook in homage to that elusive era that serves as a reference point for how we'd like to remember "the way things used to be", how they "ought to be", but probably never really were. The recordings stem from this concept musically, pulling from a vast array of influences, and thematically, swirling around it from all angles with songs of hope and disillusionment, optimism and doubt, nostalgia and anticipation, caution and regret. The cinematically layered musical arrangements set the stage for unique vocal stylings that take on a range of characters in what Martray describes as something akin to method acting. "The lyrics are simple because it's all subtext to the music. They're more like the voice of a character and the music is the setting, and so the story unfolds between them." As these scenes play out, what unfolds is a narrative about how we project our fears, hopes, desires on everything and everyone around us, forcing our simplistic ideals on a complex world.
