"KoKoro" LP released 16th September 2016 via Control GroupSweden's El Perro Del Mar (née Sarah Assbring) yesterday premiered the new single “Ding Sum” via Lenny Letter alongside a feature about her forthcoming new album ‘KoKoro’ out September 16th on Ging Ging Records. Capitalism's arguably toxic effect on the human spirit is addressed on "Ding Sum." Listen to “Ding Sum” here:https://soundcloud.com/el-perro-del-mar/ding-sum-1 The new single is released today and available for instant download with digital pre-orders along with “Breadandbutter”.

El Perro Del Mar recently debuted new songs at two intimate NYC shows: McKittrick Hotel and Ludlow House. While in town, Sarah gave Rolling Stone Live a video tour of Cookies - a kid’s department store known for school uniforms- and performed sessions for Billboard.com, WNYC Soundcheck and WMFU. She also took over NYLON’s Snapchat. Here’s fan footage of her performance with musicians Jacob Haage and Mattias Bergqvist from McKittrick Hotel: https://youtu.be/tUDHx7iEE-E

Written and produced by El Perro Del Mar & Jacob Haage, the 10 original songs of ‘KoKoro’ are Sarah Assbring’s most ambitious and musically adventurous to date, but no less emotionally direct, covering themes that speak to both big and small matters of the heart. With soundscapes that reverberate of Thailand, Sumatra, India, Ethiopia, and China, the orchestration of ‘KoKoro’ is unlike any of El Perro Del Mar’s previous releases, with Assbring seeking to “find a new way to write relevant and borderless pop music with references and influences that feel fresh.”

‘KoKoro’ was recorded with multi-instrumentalist Andreas Söderström, bassist Johan Berthling, drummer Mattias Bergqvist, who has collaborated with First Aid Kit, and wind multi-instrumentalist Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson, who has collaborated with Robyn, José González, among many others.

Nedelle Torrisi releases 'Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)' via Tin Angel Records

Nedelle Torrisi'Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)' out now  via Tin Angel Records
Listen HERE
[image error]
“Lyrically poignant and musically inventive, Advice from Paradise more than merits its deluxe treatment.” – The Line Of Best Fit
“Breezy elements of indie pop and slinky R&B.” – Noisey
“Smooth and synth-y grooves, Torrisi’s dreamy vocals feel like they’re born into darkness, then ascend into a buoyant light.” – Rookie
“Cryptacize co-founder Nedelle Torrisi is the connective thread between Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink.” – Stereogum
Nedelle Torrisi's last breakup was bad – “not throwing-clothes-out-of-a-window bad”, she laughs now, but gruelling enough to leave her feeling blue as a bruise alone in Los Angeles, wading alone through the fuselage wreckage of a four-year friendship and band. “I was frustrated at the thought of starting over again, because it also dissolved the band we were in. The silver lining was that I was alone, so didn't have to negotiate any musical decisions anymore.” A few months later, the Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink collaborator found herself with a batch of “unhinged, romantic, boy-crazy songs” that seeped romance from beneath every airy stroke of keyboard, lush 90s-R&B-throwback vocal and crisp drum machine clap. “I thought writing these sappy pop songs would somehow lift me out of that depression,” Nedelle remembers. Instead, the resulting album, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, soon for re-release on Tin Angel Records, finds hope – revelling in the uncertainty, excitement and butterfly-flutter nerves of pulling yourself up from the ground and beginning again.
The daughter of a priest-turned-jazz drummer father and ex-nun turned pianist mum, Torrisi grew up in California steeped in music. She remembers singing for relatives as early as aged three, and trying to wriggle out of homework so she could listen to Whitney Houston. Music was “a given, not a choice” in her house, she recalls fondly – “you don't just take 5 piano lessons and quit. So I chose the violin and my brother chose the clarinet, and we both studied the instruments into our twenties.”
That devotion pays off on ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, a record with whip-smart musicality to match its infectious heartbreak. ‘Can't Wait’ sees wailing twin guitars fade to a slow jam saunter with shades of Toni Braxton, singing about longing for someone in unrelenting rain. ‘Double Horizon’ is a Beach House-ish harpsichord pop dream that Noisey called “sunshine-filled, poppy and blissful.” ‘Don't Play Dumb’ meanwhile is a tale of romantic game-playing set to gorgeous MIDI calypso synths and accompanied by a video that saw Nedelle cause trouble in a Target store – she and the clip's director, Travis Peterson, were actually kicked out of the supermarket twice while trying to film.
‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’ also features on backing vocals Domino baroque-pop favourite Julia Holter – someone Torrisi says is “a good reminder that listening to your heart and being yourself is always best. She doesn't compromise her values for shallow gains. As we all know the music industry is a slimy place, so I think this says a lot about her character.” She learnt too from cult acclaimed folk troubadour Sufjan Stevens, who since releasing Nedelle's old group, Cryptacize, on his Asthmatic Kitty label, has invited Torrisi to play in his backing band and sing on his latest album, ‘Carrie and Lowell’. “His work ethic is admirable, and as a band leader he's good at challenging everyone so they never become complacent.”
The album was recorded in two weeks with Haunted Graffiti member and former housemate Kenny Gilmore, with whom Nedelle “slept at the studio and worked all day until we became cross-eyed.” Then, disaster struck. “So, the album was missing in Russia for four months,” says Nedelle, incredibly. “The story is crazy, involving Russian friends, a nice taxi company, and a lot of luck, but we got it back!” It's a good thing they did – moving and warm, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’  is a sprawling pop paradise of its own, full of such insight into the trials and tribulations of the dating game, it came as no surprise to fans three years ago when Torrisi launched her own love advice column, now a video series on floodmagazine.com. “It's kept trucking, so I've just kept doing it,” says the singer. With a new album on the horizon after the re-release of ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’.

SLOAN ANNOUNCE FALL TOUR DATES FOR 'ONE CHORD TO ANOTHER' 20TH ANNIVERSARY

TICKETS ON SALE NOW  Photo: Jannie McInnes Over the course of their 25 year career, the four songwriters in Sloan have amassed an outstanding collection of over 200 songs on eleven studio albums.  Recently named one of Canada’s top five bands of all-time in a CBC critics poll, Sloan continue to write, record and tour well into their third decade together. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Sloan's best-selling album “One Chord To Another”.  To celebrate, the band have taken to the road performing the classic album in its entirety before returning to the stage for a second full set of hits and fan favourites.   It is an evening with Sloan not to be missed. “One Chord to Another” was a fiercely independent declaration from Sloan who’s career had all but come to a close after their sophomore release “Twice Removed”.  It called attention to each of the band's four-songwriters while embracing classic studio techniques and a DIY approach.  The album was first released on their own murderecords imprint before being picked up by The Enclave for release in the USA.  It was awarded the Juno Award (Canadian music industry’s Grammy) for Best Alternative Album in 1996, and is Sloan’s top selling album to date.  This year, Sloan are performing over 70 “One Chord To Another” shows across North America. Fall dates in eastern Canada and across the United States are on sale now. Read the Noisey interview  FALL TOUR DATES: Sept 17 - Prince Edward Co, ON - Sandbanks Music FestivalSept 21 - San Jose, CA -  The Ritz

L7 Joined By Juliette Lewis For “Shitlist” @ Wrecking Ball This Weekend, 'Natural Born Killers' Homage

L7

Joined By  Juliette Lewis For “Shitlist”  @ Wrecking Ball Festival,
An Homage To Scene in Cult Classic Film, Natural Born Killers

L7: Pretend We’re Dead Documentary Out This Fall

2015 marked the widely anticipated reunion of American grunge punk icons L7.After 18 long years, the four original members are back on the road, demolishing stages across the globe. Headed to Europe and Australia in the coming months, they wrapped up the US leg of the tour this Saturday with a headlining Atlanta’s Wrecking Ball Festival. In a surprise twist, the band invited fellow rocker and actress Juliette Lewis, who performed earlier that day with her band Juliette and The Licks, to join them on stage. The performance was an homage to her role on stage as Mallory from Oliver Stone’s cult favorite Natural Born Killers during their anthemic hit “Shitlist” which helped to immortalize both the song and a graphic scene in the film. Watch & share the blowout “Shitlist” performance  HERE  filmed by @heavymetalhandyman. We encourage you to post & share.

The infamously fierce, feminist pioneers came back into the spotlight upon the announcement of their documentary film,  L7: Pretend We’re Dead , which will debut in the fall and was fully funded by fans across the globe via Kickstarter. Often credited as a leading force behind the grunge movement of the late ‘80s and for their influence on riot grrrl bands of the early ‘90s, the reaction to the announcement was far more electric than they could have expected and proved they haven’t lost an ounce of their unstoppable energy.

“Despite the very long hiatus … L7 still pack major muscle on stage”
 Rolling Stone

“…the lung-busting vocals of both Sparks and Gardner sounded vicious for 18 songs”
 LA Weekly

"No one rocked harder than feminist grunge punk quartet L7"
– PAPER

"L7 don't defy expectations -- they detonate them."
– Billboard

Fat White Family Release New Single 'Breaking Into Aldi' / Playing Made In America Festival (9/3), Meltasia (9/4) Desert Daze (10/14-16)

Fat White Family Release New Single 'Breaking Into Aldi'featuring Cole Alexander (Black Lips), Zumi Roscow (K Holes) & Sean Lennon)

Playing Desert Daze (10/14-16)
Photo: Steve Gullick Fat White Family premiered a brand new track, 'Breaking Into Aldi', today on  Noisey UK , released on the band's own Without Consent label. They play their biggest UK headline show to date at theBrixton Academy on September 17th in London, but will make three appearances in the States; next month at Made In America (9/3)Meltasia (9/4) and Desert Daze in October (14-16).

Recorded in the Catskills and Trash Mouth studios and produced by Sean Lennon, Liam May and the Saoudi brothers, the track is the band’s first new material since the release of their second album Songs For Our Mothers in January, Breaking Into Aldi was co-written by Lias, Sean Lennon and Cole Alexander, talking about the track, Lias said: ‘This song is a post apocalyptic vision of a barely united United Kingdom bereft of quality German supermarkets and their insipid low prices; Breaking Into Aldi is the anthem that never was, a call to arms for the senselessness of our future futility, an overcrowded shadow begging for a rerun, a sell out by sell outs for sell outs. This Fat Whites collaboration with Cole Alexander of the Black Lips, Sean Lennon and Zumi Roscow of the K Holes is by all intents and purposes the sound of hopelessness attempting to bleed itself dry.’
LIVE SHOWS:

September 3 - Philadelphia, PA - Made In America Festival
September 4 - Catskills, NY  - Meltasia
September 17 - London, UK  - Brixton Academy

Hear Wilco's Schmilco First at Record Stores on Sept 6

EARLY LISTEN OF WILCO'S SCHMILCO AT INDEPENDENT
RECORD STORES ON SEPT 6

VINYL AVAILABLE SEPT 6, CD/DIGITAL AVAILABLE SEPT 9 Photo by HuckberryEasthampton, MA – August 15, 2016 – Wilco fans can have an early listen to the band’s forthcoming album Schmilco on Tuesday, Sept. 6, three days before the album’s official worldwide release Sept. 9. But it won’t be via an early online stream; instead, the Chicago band is showing its support for independent record stores — and the vinyl format in general — by encouraging fans to attend I Heard Schmilco listening parties at locations across the US and Canada. Hosting stores will play the album in its entirety, on vinyl, and offer attendees a chance to win unique prizes including slipmats featuring album-cover artist Joan Cornellà’s artwork. A list of participating stores is HERE. Vinyl copies of Schmilco will be available for purchase on Sept. 6 across the US at all retail outlets (physical stores and online shops) and all formats (CD & online) will be available Sept. 9.

As Wilco’s summer tour continues the band returns to St. Louis on Wednesday to play The Fox Theatre. While in town, Wilco makes a pre-show stop at band leader Jeff Tweedy’s former employer Euclid Records for a special in-store performance and signing. Preorder for Schmilco is available now at Euclid for guaranteed entry.

Tweedy’s insider guide to Chicago is currently featured on the men’s e-commerce retail site HuckberryField Guide: Chicago is a conversation and photo essay about Chicago that features intimate photos of Tweedy in and around the city, as well as a look into Wilco’s recording studio The Loft. The site also features a dedicated Wilco shop with exclusive Wilco products and autographed vinyl.

Schmilco is Wilco’s 10th studio album and features 12 new songs written by Tweedy. It is the third Wilco release on the band’s own dBpm Records, and it follows Star Wars, which was released for free and as a surprise, in July 2015.

Mostly an acoustic collection,Schmilco bears neither the vicious, fuzz-glam guitars ofStar Wars, nor the dazzling, baroque-ish arrangements that fans have come to expect from Wilco. But in their place is a spaciousness and chaos that might feel welcome after 20-some years of enjoyed but now-familiar Wilco releases. It is an intentionally loose affair.

Recorded at the band’s Chicago studio the Loft,Schmilco is produced by Jeff Tweedy and Tom Schick.

Hannah Peel releases new video 'All That Matters', taken from upcoming album 'Awake But Always Dreaming' out 23rd September

“Hugely impressive” Drowned In Sound
“Euphoric, orchestral pop” The Quietus
“Hauntingly-beautiful, leviathan atmospheric pop” The Line Of Best Fit
Acclaimed singer-songwriter and member of celebrated band The Magnetic NorthHannah Peel has announced the release of lead single ‘All That Matters’, taken from her remarkable second solo album ‘Awake But Always Dreaming’. ‘All That Matters’, an electronic dream-pop gem, will be released on 9th September.
The Northern Irish artist and composer is set to release the brand new album on 23rd September, which features 10 new songs plus a cover of Paul Buchanan’s ‘Cars In The Garden’ featuring a duet with Hayden Thorpe (Wild Beasts). ‘All That Matters’ opens proceedings with a pop mantra of living in the moment – “all that matters is here, sings Peel over layers of electronics.
Talking about the track, Peel said: “I wrote this song as a bittersweet mantra for someone close to me and since then, it seems to have also become my own tune to lift me out of troubled moments. A constant reminder that no matter what life throws at you, to not forget about the ones who will always care, the ones who are standing waiting to welcome you back, the ones who will forever look after you and say simply, they love you. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters, caring and being cared for. Yet to love and not be loved is one of the saddest things of all.”Peel first came to recognition with her mesmerizing, hand-punched ‘music box’ EP ‘Rebox’, featuring covers of ‘80s bands Cocteau Twins, Soft Cell, & New Order. Having released her critically lauded solo debut album ‘The Broken Wave’, Peel then formed The Magnetic North, a highly praised and expansive collaborative project with Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good The Bad And The Queen, Gorillaz) and Erland Cooper (Erland & The Carnival). She also created a series of limited edition EPs, - the increasingly electronic ‘Nailhouse’ in 2013, followed by the stunning analogue beauty of ‘Fabricstate’ in 2014. A year later Peel released ‘Rebox 2’ with music-box covers of ‘Queen’ (originally performed by Perfume Genius), John Grant’s ‘Pale Green Ghosts’, Wild Beasts’ ‘Palace’, as well as her glorious cover of East India Youth’s triumphant ‘Heaven How Long’.2016 has been yet another prolific year for Peel, so far including collaborations with Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve (aka Erol Alkan & Richard Norris) - she features on two BBC6 playlisted singles ‘Diagram Girl’ and ‘Creation’ - and composing under her new synth-based, space-age alter-ego Mary Casio with an experimental piece combining analogue electronics and a 33-piece colliery brass band (which debuted to a sold out Manchester audience in May). Meanwhile The Magnetic North released their critically acclaimed follow up LP ‘Prospect Of Skelmersdale’ in March.Produced and recorded with long-term collaborator Erland Cooper, with orchestrations by Peel, both in their own, richly analogue studio in Shoreditch, London and at Attica Audio in County Donegal, Ireland, her new solo album ‘Awake But Always Dreaming’ is a record about memory: the luminous and beautiful formation of memories and the devastating loss or slow, insidious damage to the mind. “I’ve read 1 in 3 of us will die with dementia, and a third of us are connected to someone with dementia through family and friends”, says Hannah. “850,000 people in the UK alone have it now and 2 in 3 people affected will be women. It’s quite remarkable really, and it’s getting worse”.
