Throughout the years, the venue hosted a multitude of bands that went on to enjoy international acclaim, including A Place To Bury Strangers, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Future Islands, Jeff the Brotherhood and Lightning Bolt, among so many more. Death By Audio was the beloved underground venue that existed in Williamsburg, Brooklyn from 2005 until 2014, during the early-aughts Williamsburg heyday as a hub of DIY music and artistic activity in NYC. Housing a music venue, a guitar effects pedal company, a recording studio, and the home of over 10 artists and musicians, DBA established a reputation for nurturing the underground music community and curating shows with the best emerging bands from around the country.Upon learning the inevitable news that their lease would not be renewed in 2014, the creative forces behind Death By Audio threw an epic, 75-day long party celebrating everything that DBA had come to represent over its near-decade of existence. The venue booked a nightly concert calendar of stacked bills including many bands that had once played and long since outgrown the tiny room, including Lightning Bolt, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Future Islands, Jeff The Brotherhood, and A Place To Bury Strangers. Additionally, the residents of DBA programmed over two months of special events designed to bring the music and arts communities together in celebration of the DIY ethos in which the venue was founded.

DINOWALRUS

Brooklyn Rockers Announce FAIRWEATHER LP

Share “Tides” via
Stereogum

FAIRWEATHER  LP due September 23

“…a heady concoction of swirling mellotron and jangling guitar, a deep Madchester groove that will inspire some serious head-nodding.” – Stereogum

“…the magical surrealism that could only come from a band named Dinowalrus” - NPR

“…will leave you feeling all kinds of happily dazed.” – Consequence of Sound
“…a strange and heady brew of psychedelia, Krautrock, Gang Gang Dance-style electro experimentation and, perhaps most strangely of all, take on late 80s British indie-dance.” –The Line of Best Fit

Brooklyn DIY stalwarts Dinowalrus are announcing their latest endeavor – the fourth studio album from the band will be released September 23, and the world can get a preview with the jangling psych-gaze single, “Tides,” exclusively via  Stereogum .

FAIRWEATHER , the fourth album from omnivorous Brooklyn rockers Dinowalrus, sees the quartet refining their potent post-modern psychedelia and distilling the successes of their previous two outings, COMPLEXION and BEST BEHAVIOR, into a coherent and compelling package of eleven single-worthy songs, covering territory ranging from baggy Madchester party beats to melancholy space ballads and perpetual-motion-machine krautrock groovers. After albums marked by exuberance and moodiness, FAIRWEATHERis more even-keeled—the sound of a fundamentally playful band that has attained a steady level of confidence, calm, and poise, even as they bob and weave through their ocean of sounds.

The album begins with psych-rock offerings “Tides” and “Falling to the Periphery,” fueled by jangly guitar and punchy mellotrons, with sunny textures belying a cosmic angst via a ’60s meets ’90s meets 2016 aesthetic. Next, the album’s tempo gradually increases into an acid rock/house-derived middle section anchored by the lumbering squelch of “Guilty,” with frontman Pete Feigenbaum begging for forgiveness: “I’m guilty—do you still believe me?” After the Motorik minimalism of “Light Rain,” the album descends into a murky, shoegazing dreamworld of infinite breakbeats yielding optimistic flashes (“Compass Rose”) and futuristic wall-of-sound doomscapes (“The Silent Earth”).

Produced by the band in their own studio, FAIRWEATHER brings back the excitement and playfulness of their debut album (PERCENT), while imbuing a newfound sense of refinement and clarity to the mixes, coupling the experience from their recent studio endeavors with more concise and quick-moving yet provocative arrangements.

Although heavily dosed with electronics, FAIRWEATHER contrasts the dystopian industrial arpeggiators of their previous albums with a warm, timeless palette of organs, looped breakbeats, and radio-ready vocals, including the occasional psychedelic flourish of reversed guitars and exploding delay trails. As a result, the music moves forward by looking back, bringing to mind the work of contemporaries like Jagwar Ma, Tame Impala, and Deerhunter, while also incorporating some of the more exciting and psychedelic pop sounds of the early ’90s Creation Records back catalog with aesthetic nods to The House of Love, Primal Scream, and Ride.

Dinowalrus will also be playing a hometown release show at Rough Trade NYC on September 25 (tickets available here). The band will be joined by Sharkmuffin, Dead Leaf Echo, and Drawing Boards.

GOAT shares new track "Alarms" (from 'Requiem')

GOAT shares “Alarms,” a new track from Requiem, their forthcoming album

Requiem is out October 7th, 2016  in North America on Sub Pop Records, Stranded Rekords in Nordic countries, and Rocket Recordings in the rest of the world

We’re pleased to share “Alarms,” the latest offering from GOAT’s forthcoming longplayer, Requiem, which is out October 7th via Sub Pop Records in North America, Stranded Rekords in Nordic countries, and Rocket Recordings in the rest of the world. “Alarms” highlights the folk influence that runs through Requiem, with acoustic guitars and hand-percussion instruments driving thesong, while retaining the hypnotic vocals and fuzz-drenched guitar leads the band is known for.

Requiem finds GOAT focusing more on their subdued, bucolic ritualism than psilocybin freakouts, with a pronounced folk-rock influence pervading the album.  But GOAT hasn’t foregone their fiery charms—tracks like “All-Seeing Eye” and “Goatfuzz” conjure the sultry pulsations that ensnared us on 2012’s World Music and 2014’s Commune.

Requiem will be available in North America on CD / 2xLP / DL / CASS on October 7th, 2016. You can preorder the band’s new record  here . LP pre-orders through the Sub Pop Mega Mart and independent retailers will receive the limited Loser Edition on translucent red vinyl with black streaks (while supplies last).

GOAT recently announced some European shows, with more dates to follow. Please find a current live schedule below.

More on GOAT:
In a culture obsessed with content, saturation, and continual exposure, it’s rare to find artists who prefer to lurk outside of the public eye. Thomas Pynchon is perhaps the most notable contemporary recluse—a virtually faceless figure who occasionally creeps out of hiding to offer up an elaborate novel steeped in history and warped by imagination—but for the crate digging audiophiles, guitar mystics, and third-eye visionaries, Sweden’s enigmatic rock outfit GOAT may qualify as the greatest modern pop-culture mystery. Who are these masked musicians? Are they truly members of a remote tribe in the Arctic community of Korpilombolo? Are their songs actually a part of their communal heritage, passed down through generations in their isolated homeland? Their third studio full-length,Requiem, offers more questions than answers, but much like any of Pynchon’s knotty yarns, the reward is not in the untangling but in the journey through the labyrinth.

Western exports may have dominated the consciousness of international rock fans for the entirety of the 20th century, but our increasing global awareness has unearthed a treasure trove of transcendental grooves and spellbinding riffage from exotic and remote corners of the planet. GOAT’s previous albums World Music and Commune were perfect testaments to this heightened awareness, with Silk Road psychedelia, desert blues, and Third World pop all serving as governing forces within the band’s sound. But GOAT’s strange amalgam isn’t some cheap game of cultural appropriation—it’s nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact origins of the elusive group’s sound. Whether or not the enigmatic collective truly claims Korpilombolo as their home, the fact that they pledge allegiance to a spot on the periphery of our maps—a spot so distant and off the grid that it feels fictitious—bolsters the nomadic quality of their sonic explorations. With Requiem, GOATcontinue to rock and writhe to a beat beholden to no nation, no state.

GOAT’s only outright declaration for Requiem is that it is their “folk” album. For the initiated, such a proclamation seems almost unnecessary—GOAT has always vacillated between electrified exuberance and unplugged tribalist hymns. But Requiem does find GOAT focusing more on their subdued bucolic ritualism than on the psilocybin freakouts. Opening tracks “Djorolen/Union of Sun and Moon” and “I Sing in Silence” both set the stage for GOAT’s rustic approach, with the guitars laying down simple chord progressions and pan flute providing the primary hooks. From those very first notes, the piper leads us down a path where GOAT relies less on acidic guitar lines and more on sun-bleached psych-pop. “Trouble in the Streets” carries all the jubilance of classic African highlife. “Try My Robe” bares the group’s signature ceremonial hip-shaking rhythms, but eschews guitar for a mandolin line that would make John Paul Jones proud. But GOAT hasn’t completely foregone their fiery charms—tracks like “All-Seeing Eye” and “Goatfuzz” conjure the sultry heathen pulsations that ensnared us on their previous albums.

Perhaps the most puzzling aspect of Requiem comes with the closing track “Ubuntu”. The song is little more than a melodic delay-driven electric piano line, until we hear the refrain from “Diarabi”—the first song on their first album—sneak into the mix. It creates a kind of musical ouroboros—an infinite cycle of reflection and rejuvenation, death and rebirth. Much like fellow recluse Pynchon, GOAT doesn’t offer up any explanations for their strange trajectories. But like Pynchon, they have managed to create a world of their own where the line between truth and fiction is so obscured that all you can do is bask in their cryptic genius.

What People Are Saying About GOAT:
"The track is a characteristic of the clan - wild, full of colour, and a celebration."  ["Try My Robe"] - DIY

"these fresh GOAT-y sounds are tantalising meshes of brilliance and surreality." ["Try My Robe"] - Line of Best Fit

"The band is all about fusion, snagging sounds from all over the world to create a knotty blend of Western psychedelia and Eastern instrumentation." ["Try My Robe"] Consequence of Sound

“GOAT's second album balances all that joy with the darkness of krautrock: The band Can and its minimalist excursions come to mind, but then there are also moments that would fit comfortably as an artifact from the first psychedelic era circa 1968. The song titles on Commune ("Talk To God," "Goatchild," "Goatslaves," "Gathering Of Ancient Tribes") tell a story, even when it's hard to make out the words. Throughout, the album's strong, clear vibe positively calls out for listeners to don face paint and grab a cowbell — or even a tambourine.” [Commune, First Listen] -  NPR MUSIC

“...Frantic percussive combination of acid-spiked psych-rock, groove-centric Afrobeat, dazed metal, euphoric disco, and unearthly funk.” -  Stereogum

“...A psychedelic rock ritual of rhythm, motion, hypnotic repetitionand ecstatic drive.” [Live review] -  New York Times

"KoKoro" LP released 16th September 2016 via Control GroupSweden's El Perro Del Mar (née Sarah Assbring) yesterday premiered the new single “Ding Sum” via Lenny Letter alongside a feature about her forthcoming new album ‘KoKoro’ out September 16th on Ging Ging Records. Capitalism's arguably toxic effect on the human spirit is addressed on "Ding Sum." Listen to “Ding Sum” here:https://soundcloud.com/el-perro-del-mar/ding-sum-1 The new single is released today and available for instant download with digital pre-orders along with “Breadandbutter”.

El Perro Del Mar recently debuted new songs at two intimate NYC shows: McKittrick Hotel and Ludlow House. While in town, Sarah gave Rolling Stone Live a video tour of Cookies - a kid’s department store known for school uniforms- and performed sessions for Billboard.com, WNYC Soundcheck and WMFU. She also took over NYLON’s Snapchat. Here’s fan footage of her performance with musicians Jacob Haage and Mattias Bergqvist from McKittrick Hotel: https://youtu.be/tUDHx7iEE-E

Written and produced by El Perro Del Mar & Jacob Haage, the 10 original songs of ‘KoKoro’ are Sarah Assbring’s most ambitious and musically adventurous to date, but no less emotionally direct, covering themes that speak to both big and small matters of the heart. With soundscapes that reverberate of Thailand, Sumatra, India, Ethiopia, and China, the orchestration of ‘KoKoro’ is unlike any of El Perro Del Mar’s previous releases, with Assbring seeking to “find a new way to write relevant and borderless pop music with references and influences that feel fresh.”

‘KoKoro’ was recorded with multi-instrumentalist Andreas Söderström, bassist Johan Berthling, drummer Mattias Bergqvist, who has collaborated with First Aid Kit, and wind multi-instrumentalist Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson, who has collaborated with Robyn, José González, among many others.

Nedelle Torrisi releases 'Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)' via Tin Angel Records

Nedelle Torrisi'Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)' out now  via Tin Angel Records
Listen HERE
[image error]
“Lyrically poignant and musically inventive, Advice from Paradise more than merits its deluxe treatment.” – The Line Of Best Fit
“Breezy elements of indie pop and slinky R&B.” – Noisey
“Smooth and synth-y grooves, Torrisi’s dreamy vocals feel like they’re born into darkness, then ascend into a buoyant light.” – Rookie
“Cryptacize co-founder Nedelle Torrisi is the connective thread between Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink.” – Stereogum
Nedelle Torrisi's last breakup was bad – “not throwing-clothes-out-of-a-window bad”, she laughs now, but gruelling enough to leave her feeling blue as a bruise alone in Los Angeles, wading alone through the fuselage wreckage of a four-year friendship and band. “I was frustrated at the thought of starting over again, because it also dissolved the band we were in. The silver lining was that I was alone, so didn't have to negotiate any musical decisions anymore.” A few months later, the Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink collaborator found herself with a batch of “unhinged, romantic, boy-crazy songs” that seeped romance from beneath every airy stroke of keyboard, lush 90s-R&B-throwback vocal and crisp drum machine clap. “I thought writing these sappy pop songs would somehow lift me out of that depression,” Nedelle remembers. Instead, the resulting album, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, soon for re-release on Tin Angel Records, finds hope – revelling in the uncertainty, excitement and butterfly-flutter nerves of pulling yourself up from the ground and beginning again.
The daughter of a priest-turned-jazz drummer father and ex-nun turned pianist mum, Torrisi grew up in California steeped in music. She remembers singing for relatives as early as aged three, and trying to wriggle out of homework so she could listen to Whitney Houston. Music was “a given, not a choice” in her house, she recalls fondly – “you don't just take 5 piano lessons and quit. So I chose the violin and my brother chose the clarinet, and we both studied the instruments into our twenties.”
That devotion pays off on ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’, a record with whip-smart musicality to match its infectious heartbreak. ‘Can't Wait’ sees wailing twin guitars fade to a slow jam saunter with shades of Toni Braxton, singing about longing for someone in unrelenting rain. ‘Double Horizon’ is a Beach House-ish harpsichord pop dream that Noisey called “sunshine-filled, poppy and blissful.” ‘Don't Play Dumb’ meanwhile is a tale of romantic game-playing set to gorgeous MIDI calypso synths and accompanied by a video that saw Nedelle cause trouble in a Target store – she and the clip's director, Travis Peterson, were actually kicked out of the supermarket twice while trying to film.
‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’ also features on backing vocals Domino baroque-pop favourite Julia Holter – someone Torrisi says is “a good reminder that listening to your heart and being yourself is always best. She doesn't compromise her values for shallow gains. As we all know the music industry is a slimy place, so I think this says a lot about her character.” She learnt too from cult acclaimed folk troubadour Sufjan Stevens, who since releasing Nedelle's old group, Cryptacize, on his Asthmatic Kitty label, has invited Torrisi to play in his backing band and sing on his latest album, ‘Carrie and Lowell’. “His work ethic is admirable, and as a band leader he's good at challenging everyone so they never become complacent.”
The album was recorded in two weeks with Haunted Graffiti member and former housemate Kenny Gilmore, with whom Nedelle “slept at the studio and worked all day until we became cross-eyed.” Then, disaster struck. “So, the album was missing in Russia for four months,” says Nedelle, incredibly. “The story is crazy, involving Russian friends, a nice taxi company, and a lot of luck, but we got it back!” It's a good thing they did – moving and warm, ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’  is a sprawling pop paradise of its own, full of such insight into the trials and tribulations of the dating game, it came as no surprise to fans three years ago when Torrisi launched her own love advice column, now a video series on floodmagazine.com. “It's kept trucking, so I've just kept doing it,” says the singer. With a new album on the horizon after the re-release of ‘Advice from Paradise (Deluxe Edition)’.

L7 Joined By Juliette Lewis For “Shitlist” @ Wrecking Ball This Weekend, 'Natural Born Killers' Homage

L7

Joined By  Juliette Lewis For “Shitlist”  @ Wrecking Ball Festival,
An Homage To Scene in Cult Classic Film, Natural Born Killers

L7: Pretend We’re Dead Documentary Out This Fall

2015 marked the widely anticipated reunion of American grunge punk icons L7.After 18 long years, the four original members are back on the road, demolishing stages across the globe. Headed to Europe and Australia in the coming months, they wrapped up the US leg of the tour this Saturday with a headlining Atlanta’s Wrecking Ball Festival. In a surprise twist, the band invited fellow rocker and actress Juliette Lewis, who performed earlier that day with her band Juliette and The Licks, to join them on stage. The performance was an homage to her role on stage as Mallory from Oliver Stone’s cult favorite Natural Born Killers during their anthemic hit “Shitlist” which helped to immortalize both the song and a graphic scene in the film. Watch & share the blowout “Shitlist” performance  HERE  filmed by @heavymetalhandyman. We encourage you to post & share.

The infamously fierce, feminist pioneers came back into the spotlight upon the announcement of their documentary film,  L7: Pretend We’re Dead , which will debut in the fall and was fully funded by fans across the globe via Kickstarter. Often credited as a leading force behind the grunge movement of the late ‘80s and for their influence on riot grrrl bands of the early ‘90s, the reaction to the announcement was far more electric than they could have expected and proved they haven’t lost an ounce of their unstoppable energy.

“Despite the very long hiatus … L7 still pack major muscle on stage”
 Rolling Stone

“…the lung-busting vocals of both Sparks and Gardner sounded vicious for 18 songs”
 LA Weekly

"No one rocked harder than feminist grunge punk quartet L7"
– PAPER

"L7 don't defy expectations -- they detonate them."
– Billboard

They play their biggest UK headline show to date at theBrixton Academy on September 17th in London, but will make three appearances in the States; next month at Made In America (9/3)Meltasia (9/4) and Desert Daze in October (14-16).

Recorded in the Catskills and Trash Mouth studios and produced by Sean Lennon, Liam May and the Saoudi brothers, the track is the band’s first new material since the release of their second album Songs For Our Mothers in January, Breaking Into Aldi was co-written by Lias, Sean Lennon and Cole Alexander, talking about the track, Lias said: ‘This song is a post apocalyptic vision of a barely united United Kingdom bereft of quality German supermarkets and their insipid low prices; Breaking Into Aldi is the anthem that never was, a call to arms for the senselessness of our future futility, an overcrowded shadow begging for a rerun, a sell out by sell outs for sell outs. This Fat Whites collaboration with Cole Alexander of the Black Lips, Sean Lennon and Zumi Roscow of the K Holes is by all intents and purposes the sound of hopelessness attempting to bleed itself dry.’
LIVE SHOWS:

September 3 - Philadelphia, PA - Made In America Festival
September 4 - Catskills, NY  - Meltasia
September 17 - London, UK  - Brixton Academy
October 14-16 - Joshua Tree, CA  - Desert Daze

Hear Wilco's Schmilco First at Record Stores on Sept 6

EARLY LISTEN OF WILCO'S SCHMILCO AT INDEPENDENT
RECORD STORES ON SEPT 6

VINYL AVAILABLE SEPT 6, CD/DIGITAL AVAILABLE SEPT 9 Photo by HuckberryEasthampton, MA – August 15, 2016 – Wilco fans can have an early listen to the band’s forthcoming album Schmilco on Tuesday, Sept. 6, three days before the album’s official worldwide release Sept. 9. But it won’t be via an early online stream; instead, the Chicago band is showing its support for independent record stores — and the vinyl format in general — by encouraging fans to attend I Heard Schmilco listening parties at locations across the US and Canada. Hosting stores will play the album in its entirety, on vinyl, and offer attendees a chance to win unique prizes including slipmats featuring album-cover artist Joan Cornellà’s artwork. A list of participating stores is HERE. Vinyl copies of Schmilco will be available for purchase on Sept. 6 across the US at all retail outlets (physical stores and online shops) and all formats (CD & online) will be available Sept. 9.

As Wilco’s summer tour continues the band returns to St. Louis on Wednesday to play The Fox Theatre. While in town, Wilco makes a pre-show stop at band leader Jeff Tweedy’s former employer Euclid Records for a special in-store performance and signing. Preorder for Schmilco is available now at Euclid for guaranteed entry.

Tweedy’s insider guide to Chicago is currently featured on the men’s e-commerce retail site HuckberryField Guide: Chicago is a conversation and photo essay about Chicago that features intimate photos of Tweedy in and around the city, as well as a look into Wilco’s recording studio The Loft. The site also features a dedicated Wilco shop with exclusive Wilco products and autographed vinyl.

Schmilco is Wilco’s 10th studio album and features 12 new songs written by Tweedy. It is the third Wilco release on the band’s own dBpm Records, and it follows Star Wars, which was released for free and as a surprise, in July 2015.

Mostly an acoustic collection,Schmilco bears neither the vicious, fuzz-glam guitars ofStar Wars, nor the dazzling, baroque-ish arrangements that fans have come to expect from Wilco. But in their place is a spaciousness and chaos that might feel welcome after 20-some years of enjoyed but now-familiar Wilco releases. It is an intentionally loose affair.

Recorded at the band’s Chicago studio the Loft,Schmilco is produced by Jeff Tweedy and Tom Schick.
