Today CocoRosie, the sister duo of Bianca and Sierra Casady share the fourth track, “Pushing Daisies,” from their upcoming eighth studio album Little Death Wishes (out March 28th on Joyful Noise). A few years ago, the Casady sisters were puzzled and transfixed by a billboard that read: “Women Drive Drunk Too”. Was it some kind of feminist dictum? A proclamation that in order to see a woman’s wholeness one must first acknowledge her brokenness? The questions the billboard raised, regardless of its intent, helped clarify the sisters' own messaging. Not long after, they wrote “Pushing Daisies”. A bedroom electronica anthem which traces the veins of intergenerational trauma shared between three female family members, the track spiritually transforms clichés of pain into fresh revelations. It shows women in all their dynamism, their fractals and splinters sewn into a whole.
Last month CocoRosie announced Little Death Wishes with the existentialist and meaning-seeking song "Cut Stitch Scar,”, “Yesterday” and “Least I Have You”, it also includes the track “Girl In Town” with Chance the Rapper. In advance of their European tour, they will celebrate their album release with an event aptly titled: CocoRosie's Jubilation Ball: A Tits Out Ecstatic Rave Celebration at Brooklyn’s rollerskating rink Xanadu here.
Late last year, CocoRosie started the next chapter with the single and video “Least I Have You,” an ecstatic ode to sisterhood and the purest distillation of CocoRosie’s 20-year-long career to date, alongside the announcement that they would be joining Joyful Noise Recordings (Deerhoof, ONEIDA, Kishi Bashi, WHY?, etc).
About Little Death Wishes:
For just over twenty years, Bianca and Sierra Casady have transmuted the love, hardship, and ecstasy of sisterhood into some of the most daring, dangerous, and wildly original music our increasingly sanitized culture has known. CocoRosie has been a project consistently at the musical vanguard, influencing countless musicians while inspiring and creating refuge for the “criminal queers” of the world. Above all, CocoRosie has been a conduit for irrepressible artistic self-realization.
Little Death Wishes is as open and tenderhearted as anything they’ve ever created. The songs tell a kaleidoscopic story of the generational hardship of women and the shattered realities of their lives, the precarious and precious nature of being human, of being done wrong by love, and a final wish to be unbroken. It boils everything CocoRosie down to its most brutal essence: turning pain into knowledge, sisterhood into polemic, trash into treasure, and recalcifying kitsch and cliché into fresh truths.
The duo’s 8th long player exists in its own musical lexicon. It is both primordial and tawdry, a rich bricolage of dusted-over pop culture signifiers that the sisters contort into their own sense of temporality. Contributing to the avant garde, yet unbeholden to contemporary trends, CocoRosie collects musical detritus from other times, which they fashion into their own baroque, theatricalized creations. With the sisters’ hands deep in every layer of their music, each song on Little Death Wishes feels transportative and transformative.
“CocoRosie has been the center of our lives for such a long time now,” says Bianca. In those years, the sisters have been infantilized and revered, fetishized and mirrored, misogynized and adored; at times willfully misunderstood by the press—which has failed to reduce the group into mere perverse whimsy. Despite it all, CocoRosie has continuously pursued the bravest and boldest routes, uplifting the rawest, unveiled, and most tender strands of humanity and nudging us toward the light.
CocoRosie has released seven studio albums to date: Put The Shine On (2020), Heartache City (2015), Tales of a Grasswidow (2013), Grey Oceans (2010), The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn (2007), Noah’s Ark (2005), and La maison de mon rêve (2004). In addition to CocoRosie tours and festival performances worldwide, CocoRosie has composed original scores for four full-length theatrical works by acclaimed director Robert Wilson; Peter Pan, Pushkin's Fairy Tales, Edda, and Jungle Book - with another project underway. They have also worked with the Kronos Quartet at their Jazz Festival in San Francisco for two seasons, creating a new collection of songs that will become a collaborative album with Kronos.
As a visual artist, Bianca Casady has mounted solo art exhibitions internationally, including at Deitch Projects (2007) and Cheim & Read Gallery (2012). As an experimental theater director, Bianca has created several plays, including NightShift (2012) at Kampnagel in Hamburg, Germany, Mother Hunting (2015) at the National Theater in Oslo, Norway, and The Angel Show (2017) at the National Theater Academy in Norway. Bianca hosts an ongoing experimental poetry course titled Remembering The Miracle and in 2023, the artist published her first poetry book, Au bord du ciel: Heaven bound. Sierra Casady has arranged and performed music globally, including with the Symphony Orchestra of Amsterdam, The ICA in London and The Sydney Opera House and created “Soul Life,” an Opera staged at the Donau Festival in Krems.

DAISY THE GREAT Announce New Album & Share "Ballerina" Video
DAISY THE GREAT
ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM
& SHARE LEAD SINGLE “BALLERINA”
THE RUBBER TEETH TALK OUT JUNE 27
VIA S-CURVE RECORDS
NORTH AMERICA TOUR KICKS OFF APRIL 1ST

NYC duo Daisy the Great kick off 2025 with the announcement of their new Catherine Marks-produced (boygenius, St. Vincent, Alanis Morissette) album The Rubber Teeth Talk, which will arrive June 27th via S-Curve Records. Today, the band has shared the album’s first single, the spunky, hook-filled anthem “Ballerina” and its accompanying video, directed by Zachary Tavel. In today's feature, Paste Magazine praised the song as "brash, candid, and messy in the best way possible."
Driven by the constant societal pressure to be perfect, Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan wrote “Ballerina” to process the smoke and mirrors around perfection in a world of social media. “Ballerina represents a childhood dream of perfection: something that is unattainable, but real enough to give yourself something to compare yourself to,” explains the band. “You look for the ballerina in the search for beauty, purpose, talent, body, and success — and prescribe it to the people you see around you and on social media, who seem to have that air of flawlessness. But the truth is they are also looking for ballerinas because we live in a society that feeds you this idea that even though you’re not perfect, someone out there is.”
WATCH “BALLERINA” OFFICIAL VIDEO

News of The Rubber Teeth Talk arrives on the heels of Daisy the Great’s highly regarded EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, an experimental, kaleidoscopic body of work created with Grammy award-winning producer Tony Visconti last fall. What can be heard across The Rubber Teeth Talk’s 11 tracks is Daisy the Great’s limitlessness and utterly infectious and transformative sound. On creating the record, Catherine Marks adds, “We laughed a lot making this record but there were also many moments that made us shed a little tear. When I first heard the songs I was immediately transported into their world. I love the character and sonic identity we’ve created for each song, guided by their storytelling. This album is so undeniably them and I love it.”
The band will head out on their Spring 2025 Headline Tour on April 1st in Montreal and play across North America, with stops in Montreal, Toronto, Nashville, New York City, and Los Angeles! Find the full list of tour dates below and tickets HERE.

Coming off their invigorating first headlining tour, the duo Daisy the Great found themselves back in New York City, finally with a moment to write again. Over the past two years of their lives, the two had constantly collected seeds of songs from dreams and uncanny moments, and were so excited to start to live within this new landscape they had been quietly imagining. As they began to build these worlds together, the duo found room for introspection, which grounds Daisy the Great’s sharp and playful new album: The Rubber Teeth Talk. In their transitional stage, Walker and Dugan paid special attention to the skewed logic of dreams, which bring unconscious desires to light. These revelations can be both prosaic and profound, delivered with wit. On the edgy lead single “Ballerina,” Daisy the Great emerge from a childhood dream. “I wake up at 4:00 a.m. these days, I’ve got a lot on my mind/ Like what’s the point of a body if I’ll never be a ballerina!” Dugan and Walker scream at the outset, initiating a spiraling synth part that could soundtrack a nightmarish circus. Those lyrics are but one example of the big imagination on display on The Rubber Teeth Talk.
Dugan and Walker met as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and they joke that they “became friends through being business partners.” When they grew closer in their last year of college, the duo soon found themselves writing an elaborate musical for the fun of it. They’d meet up daily in the lobby of the Marlton Hotel and “running on cookies and fries,” shared songs they’d written independently bursting with stacked harmonies and uncanny melodies. The duo soon realized a single musical couldn’t contain the energy between them and decided to start a band. Over time, Daisy the Great compiled songs and released their debut album, I’m Not Getting Any Taller (2019), and alongside their college friends/collaborators, Daisy the Great taped a Tiny Desk submission video of their song “The Record Player Song.”
“The Record Player Song” blew up on TikTok, then the band released a version with fellow New York pop artists AJR that went certified gold with over 450 million streams. From there, they released their sophomore album All You Need is Time (2022), and a slew of singles and EPs, including Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, which they wrote with the legendary producer. They’ve collaborated with Claud and Illuminati Hotties on top of touring with the Kooks, the Vaccines, and half alive, and playing at Lollapalooza and Firefly. Citing artists you “can’t compare to anyone else” like Fiona Apple, The Sundays, David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, and Liz Phair as inspiration, Daisy the Great organically grew their audience by being totally inimitable. On The Rubber Teeth Talk, tight harmonies and a sharp melodic sensibility are the only rules – every song is a surprising centerpiece in its own right, a reminder that the voice in itself is an instrument.
Daisy the Great describes their songwriting process as diaristic, reflecting their lives moment to moment, touching on both “big and small things.” To make the album, they wrote together daily, then shared the songs with bandmates Nardo Ochoa and Matti Dunietz who helped expand them into fully fleshed-out demos. Songs fell into place as the friends shared the details of their lives with one another, and on The Rubber Teeth Talk, the mundane experiences of the day-to-day share space with the momentous. Daisy the Great dreamed of working with award-winning producer Catherine Marks. Marks came to New York for preproduction and the band worked out songs in Dunietz’s basement studio, then they decamped to Studio G in Brooklyn in what they describe as a “homegrown” process. “The whole band came every day, even if they weren’t recording. It felt like such a family. We joked, bickered, and jammed, taking time to find really cool sounds as we knew we wanted the record to be super lush and full of little pockets – different worlds.” Though the lyrics on this album emerge from Dugan and Walker’s individual experiences, they relate to one another intimately, as friends and artists. “A lot of the album is about self-perception, comparison, and insecurity in some way. There’s also a thread about fear and trusting yourself that things will be okay. Trusting that it’s an adventure, or a journey, and finding a way to stick around through the messiness.”

BOYS NOIZE JOINS NINE INCH NAILS ON PEEL IT BACK WORLD TOUR 2025
BOYS NOIZE JOINS NINE INCH NAILS
ON PEEL IT BACK WORLD TOUR 2025

Boys Noize by Jamie Boyd - hi-res photos here
Today, BOYS NOIZE, the artist-producer is announced as the opening artist for the entire NINE INCH NAILS’ Peel It Back World Tour.
BOYS NOIZE (Alex Ridha), Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross previously worked together on Challengers [MIXED], as Ridha had reworked and remixed the original score by Reznor and Ross for Luca Guadagnino's Challengers movie OST.
The NINE INCH NAILS’ Peel It Back World Tour kicks off in Europe in June and will move on to North America in August. All tour dates are listed below, and tickets are now available here.
More on BOYS NOIZE:
BOYS NOIZE (Alex Ridha) builds worlds, then builds bridges between them. Propelled by an infatuation with sonic invention and a prescience for culture, the German-Iraqi artist, DJ, and producer has developed a peerless practice that is deeply informed by electronic music history but always pushes beyond convention.
As an international headliner and A-list producer BOYS NOIZE embodies the transformation and expansion of 21st century techno, house and electro into a massive global phenomenon. Yet as a Berliner and lifelong DJ, he remains dedicated to the underground, tearing through subcultural scenes large and small as he experiments with aliases across genres.
Despite his uncompromising taste, BOYS NOIZE is far from a gatekeeper. Instead, he opens portals for others to enter his world through his productions for A$AP ROCKY, LADY GAGA, and FRANK OCEAN, his film score work with TRENT REZNOR and ATTICUS ROSS for CHALLENGERS and OLVER STONE’S SNOWDEN, his collaborations with SKRILLEX, KELSEY LU, PUSSY RIOT, SHYGIRL, RICO NASTY, VTSS, TOMMY CASH and CHILLY GONZALES, his EP and OFF WHITE capsule collection with the late VIRGIL ABLOH, his remixes for DAFT PUNK, AG COOK, YEAH YEAH YEAHS, SOPHIE and DEPECHE MODE.
As temperatures and tempos rise, so does BOYS NOIZE’s output. He’s been on a tear of 140+ bpm techno tracks and remixes, including festival rippers “FCKVRND”, “STEADY PACE” with VTSS, “FINE DAY ANTHEM” with SKRILLEX, and three new singles ready to blast off in 2025.
Still, BOYS NOIZE remains fiercely independent, intimately involved in supporting the culture that brought him his success. After many years self-releasing on BOYSNOIZE RECORDS, Ridha is launching an expansive concept label that reflects new modes of creative and subcultural circulation. Integrating music, objects, and a pluralistic network of artists and scenes against the trend of aesthetic universalization and refinement, ONES and ZEROS (OAZ) debuted with a 22-track compilation as well as limited-run jewellery designed by ALLIGATOR JESUS and ERIC TIMOTHY CARLSON on February 21.
Like the dialogue between DJ and dancefloor, Ridha’s practice is ultimately one of active creation and conversation across boundaries. BOYS NOIZE is many things—legendary electro DJ, GRAMMY-winning pop producer, breakout film composer, leading figure of the new techno zeitgeist—but no one of them personifies him. Instead, BOYS NOIZE can be found in the connections between and beyond, a network of energy, principles, and taste always reaching towards what is to come.

"[‘Hearsay’is] a rocker brimming with pent-up anxiety." - Stereogum
“Entrancing.”— TheNeedle Dropon “Hearsay”
"AnnikaHenderson’s music has always exhibited a raw edge that placed herwithin the upper echelons of her post-punk peers.” — Uproxx
Anika— the British-born, Berlin-based musician AnnikaHenderson —releases the new single/video, “WalkAway,”from her new album, Abyss, out April4thon SacredBones.Following the “righteously hypnotic” (Paste)leadsingle, “Hearsay,” “WalkAway”is a surprisingly jolly 90s alt-rock tinged track with blatantlyhonest lyrics: “The truth is I don’t really like myself/ And thetruth is I don’t really like anyone else… Sometimes I know, lifecan just suck… And the truth is, I’d rather you just go to hell…And the truth is, I’d rather the whole world did as well.”
Onthe track, Henderson says: “This song is saying all the things Iwant to say but am too scared to say or that society doesn’t acceptme to say. It is dealing with mental health – the state of poormental health in these fucked up, divided, isolated, social media, war, pest, rise of the right times. It is the deconstruction of thefeminine – of topics considered to be private realm.” Asinspiration, Henderson cites “the reckless nature of 90s /2000sHole / Courtney Love records – of not giving a shit – telling ithow it is, not scared to offend, not scared to be cancelled. We havealso lost the space for healthy debate, for difference of opinion, shutting down those we don’t agree with, removing them from oursocial networks.”
Thesong’s accompanying video directed by LauraMartinovawas shot in an ex-brothel in Berlin and “plays with the sociallyconstructed ideas of femininity, of sexuality, of sexual restrictionand confronts them,” Henderson explains. “The character is quitesufficient by herself, sexually and socially liberated – and also abit of a mess, destroying the prim and proper idea of how a goodwifey should be. She is a hedonist, she lets herself go, she showsanger, she shows being drunk, she seems to enjoy dusting the picturesof the naked ladies very much, she is independent and breaking out ofall the bars imposed by the patriarchy. The guy in the video neverfinds her, never even gets close, doesn’t in the slightest disrupther life, he continues to look but she seems to always be a stepahead.”
Watchthe video for “Walk Away”
Anikacreated Abyssout of the frustration, anger, and confusion she feels from existingin our contemporary world. Notably heavier than her previousreleases, the 10-track Abyssfeels raw, urgent, and fueled by strong emotions. Abysswas recorded live to tape at the legendary HansaStudios inBerlin (where the likes of Depeche Mode and David Bowie alsorecorded) in just a few days. Recording live and with minimaloverdubs was an important decision, Anika stresses, in order tocapture the raw immediacy of the album. As before, she wrote thesongs herself, before fleshing them out with MartinThulin of Exploded View, and then assembled a live band to join the pair in the studio –comprising of AndreaBelfion drums, TomasNochteff onbass (Mueran Humanos) and LawrenceGoodwin(The Pleasure Majenta) on guitar, with studio engineering done byNanniJohanssonand FridaClaeson Johansson.

THE NEW CANDYS: NEW ALBUM announced! Pre-order + first single + EU/UK tickets

It's been a while since we've been in touch, but we finally have some news to share! Today, our first single Regicide from our upcoming album The Uncanny Extravaganza has been released. The album will be out on May 30th via Fuzz Club.
NEW SINGLE 'REGICIDE'
"Regicide" is a signature track from our new album, embodying everything we want to be today. We wanted to introduce elements that had never been part of our songs before. The disco-style beat in the verses really excited us, it was a deliberate clash between two distant genres that we wanted to blend together, making the song as danceable and party-ready as possible while still maintaining a dark atmosphere, just the way we like it. Moreover, all the traits of our most aggressive tracks are present here, but in this song, they’re taken to the extreme.
LISTENNEW ALBUM PRE-ORDER'THE UNCANNY EXTRAVAGANZA'

Shunkan, the LA-based rock project of Marina Sakimoto, is excited to share “Usual Suspects,” the second single off Kamikaze Girl, out May 6, 2025 via Houston’s tastemaking Rite Field Records. A larger-than-life song about attempting to figure out your life amid chaos, “Usual Suspects” showcases Sakimoto’s powerful voice, driving guitar riffs and the best of her emo influences.
“I wanted to write about the process of trying to better your life while still acknowledging that you’re in the thick of it, Sakimoto explains. “I immediately thought of Charlie [Kelly] from ‘It’s Always Sunny’ surrounded by red string and screaming about Carol. Trying to figure out your own shit can feel like solving a cold case or cracking a conspiracy theory—it’s messy, confusing, and sometimes brutal. But at least you’re trying, and that’s what matters.”

PRE-ORDER KAMIKAZE GIRL
Recorded last year in Joshua Tree, CA and produced by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Melvins, The Mountain Goats), the incoming record inspects how to put things back together after falling apart. Heralding the announcement was “Hellbound,” a hazy, melancholic track that expects the worst and wants the best. Grounded by Sakimoto’s honeyed vocals, brightly toned guitar riffs reverberate like late-night memories and desire-driven mistakes.
LISTEN TO “HELLBOUND”
Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records last fall and quickly mapped out her first full-length offering since 2019’s Cumberland Falls. Sakimoto first debuted the project in 2014 with her first EP, Honey, Milk and Blood, which earned praise from the likes of DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and Far Out Magazine. Shunkan’s critically acclaimed first LP The Pink Noise, arrived in 2014 with fan favorite tracks, “Garden” and “S.A.D.” This year will mark the release of her most refined and introspective album yet, Kamikaze Girl.

ABOUT SHUNKAN:
Born on the Gemini-Taurus cusp and raised in a bicultural household, Marina Sakimoto has always felt the pull of duality — a sense of being both split and whole. This theme is the heartbeat of Shunkan, the Los Angeles-based rock project she leads with raw emotion and unflinching honesty. In 2024, Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records and collaborated with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, At the Drive-In, Bloc Party) to craft a record that captures a pivotal moment in Sakimoto’s life. Written during one of her most challenging years, the album reflects on fleeting friendships that echoed her adolescence, coming to terms with an unwinding love, and wandering through the streets of LA in search of herself.
Shunkan’s sound melds angular, emotive guitar work with anthemic melodies, channeling the raw intensity of second-wave emo and the vibrant hooks of early-2000s alternative rock. It’s a dynamic style that has earned critical acclaim for her EP Honey, Milk and Blood and debut album The Pink Noise, praised by outlets such as The Guardian, NME, and Spin. In 2019, The Pink Noise was archived by the National Library of New Zealand for its cultural significance. The upcoming album pays homage to the music that first inspired Sakimoto, exploring themes of connection, nostalgia, and transformation. With a foot in the past and an eye on the future, Shunkan continues to explore the beauty of being caught in a moment.

DEAD OCEANS DEBUT TO ARRIVE APRIL 4TH

Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl announced their new album, Are We All Angels, last month, and today they’re back with their latest offering, “Tonight (I’m Afraid)”—the final single before the album drops on April 4 via Dead Oceans. “Tonight (I’m Afraid)” finds Scowl at their most vulnerable, driven by anthemic choruses and punchy basslines, all cut through by Kat Moss’ visceral screams. The song arrives with a flip book music video illustrated by Adam Fuchs, the creative director of AdultSwim.com. The track follows previous singles “B.A.B.E,” “Not Heaven, Not Hell,” and “Special.”
Produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Mannequin Pussy, etc.), who worked on their most recent project, the Psychic Dance Routine EP, Are We All Angels finds the venomous and antagonistic band funneling their aggression through a more expansive version of themselves. The album was mixed by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, My Chemical Romance, Vampire Weekend, etc..). An album marked by alienation, grief, and the loss of control, much of it grapples with their newfound place in the hardcore scene, a community that has both embraced the band and made them something of a lightning rod over the past few years.
At every turn on Are We All Angels, the band explores ambitious new directions and bends genre norms. Moss makes the most immediately noticeable evolution, dropping some of the gnarly bite of the band’s previous work in favor of a more textured and sometimes delicate approach. She flexes harmonies and melodic sensibilities that might surprise even the most dedicated Scowl fans. Moss cites a wide array of influences outside the realm of hard rock—everything from Billie Eilish to Radiohead, Car Seat Headrest to Julien Baker. “The majority of us were really not proficient musicians when this band started,” she admits. “It was very Germs-esque in that way, like baby’s first hardcore band, which is awesome. But now, we still might not know what we’re doing, but we have a better idea of what we want to do.” Instrumentally the band cites influence from Negative Approach, Bad Brains, Hole, Mudhoney Garbage, Ramones, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Rocket From The Crypt among others. Bassist Bailey Lupo notes “The song writing on the new record was the most collaborative to date in Scowl’s history. Everyone brought so many ideas to the table and we were able to dissect it all and take our time. We all have such eclectic tastes, influences and personalities and you can really hear that in every corner on this album.”
Even through this more eclectic approach, Scowl loses none of their edge and still manages to convey the anger and frustration that lies underneath. They are deeply committed to carrying the ethos of punk and its sense of community. “Hardcore and punk have sculpted how we operate, what we want to do as a band, and how we participate,” says Greene. “At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.”

Scowl has quickly established themselves as one of the most dynamic and hard-working acts in rock, touring extensively in the U.S. and internationally with the likes of Limp Bizkit, Destroy Boys, The Bronx, Militarie Gun, Show Me The Body, Zulu, Touche Amore, A Day To Remember, Speed, Sunami and many more, along with festival appearances at Coachella, Reading & Leeds, No Values, Outbreak, Primavera, and Sick New World to name a few. The band—Malachi Greene (guitar), Bailey Lupo (bass), Cole Gilbert (drums), Mikey Bifolco (guitar), and Kat Moss (vocals)—formed in 2019 and broke out in 2021 with their debut album How Flowers Grow, and they’ve been on a non-stop rise ever since garnering cover stories from Alternative Press and Revolver and support from Pitchfork, FADER, Stereogum, Spin Magazine and much more . With 2023’s Psychic Dance Routine, Scowl pushed the boundaries of punk, blending aggressive hardcore with lush alternative melodies.

Martha Wainwright’s Self-Titled Debut Album to be released on vinyl for the first time

MARTHA WAINWRIGHT’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM
TO BE RELEASED ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME ON MAY 23, 2025
INCLUDING BONUS DISC ON CD/DIGITAL
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR BEGINS THIS MONTH

Twenty years ago, Martha Wainwright stepped out of her family’s illustrious shadow and announced herself to the world with her stunning debut album Martha Wainwright. Featuring “Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole”, a song about her father, “Factory” and “When The Day Is Short,” it immediately proved she was a major talent to be reckoned with.
On May 23rd, [PIAS] will release this album on vinyl for the very first time. This classic debut will also be released on CD and digital with extra tracks and a bonus disc that features 14 rarities and alternate versions.
Gems include “Bring Back My Heart” featuring Rufus Wainwright, “Our Love” with Kate & Anna McGarrigle and “Far Away” featuring the late, great Garth Hudson, both never previously released.
“In the years before my first album was released, I was doing my own version of ‘artist development’ – playing a lot of gigs and going into the studio to make demos,” Martha remembers. “I got to New York City in 1998. It was a magical blur of fun and discovery, meeting musicians, playing and seeing shows and going into the studio. Hopping from bar to bar in the Lower East Side and Williamsburg.”
“These are some of the recordings that came out of that time,” Martha says of the bonus material. “Some were released as EPs that I would sell at shows but others have never been released. These are the ones that best reflect that time and the wild eclecticism I’ve always had, for better or worse, as an artist.”
To support the release, Martha will play shows this spring across North America, including the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA and Le Poisson Rouge in New York, NY

“20 years ago my life as an artist took shape when my first record was released,” Martha recalls. “In many ways that record defined me, as well as launched me into a now over 20 year long career that has made me who I am. It was after 10 years of playing in bars, making cassettes and EPs to sell at my shows, singing backup for my brother Rufus, falling in love and out of love, practising, writing, singing until I could barely sing anymore, partying, playing with musicians and listening to great artists, working with my ex-husband in the studio for 2 years, all that created this first record.”
“20 years later, with 6 other albums under my belt, 2 kids and a career that is chugging along, I can safely say my first record paved my way forward. On March 21st we will release the record on vinyl for the first time ever as well as digitally release unheard songs, outtakes and early material from that 10 year period of discovery that led to my first record. There will be a tour with a few great musicians, where I’ll play the record in its entirety as well as a few new songs- there’s no 48 year old me with the 28 year old me.”
