Tame Impala Releases Four Tet Remix of "Is It True" From 'The Slow Rush' Out Now Via Interscope

TAME IMPALA RELEASES FOUR TET REMIX OF “IS IT TRUE” FROMTHE SLOW RUSH OUT NOW VIA INTERSCOPEThe Slow Rush, Kevin Parker’s fourth album as Tame Impala was released in February to wide-spread acclaim. Today, Four Tet gives The Slow Rush track “Is It True,” an ambient and discordant reimagining in the British producers’ remix - out now. Earlier this month, Parker also released an official music video for “Is It True.” On Monday, August 24th, NPR will debut Tame Impala’s Tiny Desk At Home.
The Slow Rush’s lead single, “Lost In Yesterday” currently sits Top 3 at Alternative Radio and hit #1 at AAA this summer. Earlier this month, he also released his remix of 070 Shake’s “Guilty Conscience.” Parker also recently collaborated with Mike Skinner on The Streets track, “Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better.” Together with Oneohtrix Point Never, he contributed to The Weeknd’s latest album, After Hours, also released earlier this year.(Photo Credit: Kate Green)
PRAISE FOR THE SLOW RUSH“Fortunately, it was worth the wait: ‘The Slow Rush’ is arguably Parker’s most fully realized and satisfying effort to date. ‘The Slow Rush’ proves that Parker has earned all the time he needs.” -Variety “Therein lies the crux of Tame Impala’s genius and the beauty of The Slow Rush, his most contemplative work: Parker filters the bleakest parts of himself through a thick and vibrant lens. Even as he expels his private demons, he’s encouraging us to dance to his pain.”-The Nation “The Slow Rush is stunningly pure and heartfelt pop." -The Guardian  "Kevin can do anything,” ...He can play anything, and play it incredibly well. He has killer melodic instincts. And he has an impossibly cool aesthetic when it comes to sonics, without ever trying to be cool. It can be intimidating to collaborate with someone like that, but also his take on things is so unique, I never want to distill that.” Mark Ronson // Billboard's Tame Impala COVER feature "Tame Impala's 'The Slow Rush' is worth the wait. Kevin Parker's first album in five years had a prolonged rollout, but he delivers on the Coachella-sized expectations." -Vice “The melodies dwell in a sweet, idyllic late-afternoon mood that can veil the internal turbulence, doubt and emotional complexity lurking in the words. He's become a singer who can deepen a message through tone and inflection, conveying in a few syllables what some people spend pages trying to pin down. While everybody else in the catchy-song business seems to be running in circles, he's out there unapologetically having fun, creating new delivery systems for his own exotic brand of sonic euphoria.” -NPR ‘’The Slow Rush,’ an impressive integration of cosmic expansiveness and taut melody, is worth the wait. Even at their dreamiest, Tame Impala tracks have a pulse that invites bodies to move. That tension—between loose, mind-expanding psychedelia and the tight focus of dance-oriented pop—is what powers Mr. Parker’s music. [His} production virtuosity is clear from the outset...adding layer upon layer of gorgeous sound design. It reveals a brighter Tame Impala, one with a few extra beams of disco-ball twinkle.”-Wall Street Journal “Tame Impala albums are worlds to get lost in... gazing awestruck, mouth agape, intently focused on the complex beauty unfolding before you. The Slow Rush continues that zoning out/zeroing in dynamic, but...sends it spiraling across time and space. Many of the songs slap in their own right, but they function best as complementary scenes in the journey, reinforcing the sensation of displacement within the timeline.”-Stereogum  “He has risen to the occasion with an album full of the necessary girth and scope, which doesn't succumb to the forces of inertia. **** -Uncut “Clearly, all the tinkering paid off. The Slow Rush is an extraordinarily detailed opus whose influences reach into specific corners of the past six decades, from Philly soul and early prog to acid house, adult-contemporary R&B, and Late Registration...The effect is something like multiple YouTube videos accidentally playing at once, a restless mind making gorgeous chaos—the work of a true perfectionist. Even without the adrenaline-filled highs, the compositions are as rich and thoughtful as ever..” -Pitchfork “Parker is a master of studio songcraft; each track flows seamlessly from one to the next in one cohesive journey, capturing uplifting, laidback summer vibes throughout.****” -The Independent “As far as follow-ups to an earth-shattering run of albums go, this is much more than just a solid return. It is, overall, an exhilarating listen. This band aren’t rock music’s saviours; they’re so much more than that. ****” -NME “A cornucopia of sounds and styles from across dance music’s past and present. One of the chief pleasures to be had from The Slow Rush is the sheer depth of sonic treats packed into each song. Tame Impala might be operating in a field of one, but even then, Kevin Parker is still streaks ahead.” Q – 4 stars **** (Album of the Month) “‘The Slow Rush’ digs deeper into the new version of Tame Impala that Parker located on Currents. It is a better album, more purposeful and with improved lyrics. Despite fame and a broader musical canvas, he remains as inward in perspective as ever. ****” -The Financial Times “Tame Impala, is as much a self-reflective open letter to the world as it is a beautifully obfuscating, transmuting, rippling piece of music. On the 12-track album, Parker reminisces, offers notes on where he's come from, where he's been, and what the future might hold for his psyche, all amidst Tame Impala's signature dreamy, 1960s-retro-through-a-million-pedals sound.” -Popmatters “Kevin Parker is a prog-rock wiz with a heart of pop gold, spooling out resplendent psychedelic symphonies in Tame Impala... floating above his thick disco, funk, and trip-hop beats...everything seems obsessively considered, as if he spends more time perfecting the hi-hat clicks than most artists take making their whole record. If someone told you an army of musicians had contributed to The Slow Rush, you wouldn’t be surprised.” -Rolling Stone “In the end, the wait is definitely worth it. ‘The Slow Rush’ is the sound of a band broadening out, trying new things, it’s another aspect of Parker’s innate sense of balance. ‘The Slow Rush’ is testament to the patient productivity and unrelenting creativity of Kevin Parker.”-Clash “Listening to the long-awaited The Slow Rush, one gets the sense that Parker won’t have to resort to outside forces in order to draw out [the] feeling of jolting, kinetic pleasure any longer: after years of gesturing toward the trappings of dance music, rock’s most compelling auteur has turned in an album seemingly designed to dilate pupils and increase heart rates.” -The Fader “A triumph… Tripped out and joyfully intoxicating, Tame Impala one-man marvel Kevin Parker excels himself here.” Daily Mirror – 5 stars ***** “Blissful, life-affirming, intoxicating soundscapes... A mesmerising opus.” -The Sun – 4.5/5Tame Impala (Kevin Parker) has emerged as one of the most influential voices of the last decade. His latest album serves as a deep reflection on the passage of time - The Slow Rush. "'The Slow Rush' is an extraordinarily detailed opus," said Pitchfork. "I have to marvel that all this sound and history comes from Parker alone, picking every string and twisting every knob." His last album, Currents (Interscope) was released in 2015 earning him a second GRAMMY nomination and word-wide commercial success. The New York Times labeled it a "a tour de force" and Pitchfork said, "nearly every proper song on 'Currents' is a revelatory statement of Parker's range and increasing expertise as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist while maintaining the essence of Tame Impala." NPR noted, "[Parker] advocates for constant reinvention... That commitment to evolution helps make Tame Impala an unlikely but worthy candidate for major stardom." He first toured the U.S. in 2010, playing small clubs for crowds of 200. A handful of trips to the U.S. later and thanks to the ravenous demand of fans for a transcendent live performance, Tame Impala has gone on to headline festivals and theaters around the world and released four full length albums - Innerspeaker, Lonerism , Currents and The Slow Rush. As a writer and producer Parker has collaborated with Travis Scott, SZA, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Kali Uchis, Theophilus London, Miguel, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar and more.
In 2019 Tame Impala headlined multiple major festivals including Coachella, Primavera, Lollapalooza, ACL and more. He debuted two new songs on Saturday Night Live and sold out arenas around the world including two nights at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and two nights at the Los Angeles Forum. Find Tame Impala here: tameimpala.comfacebook ** twitter ** instagram

Sydney, Australia-based singer, songwriter and storyteller ALEX THE ASTRONAUT released her anticipated debut album The Theory Of Absolutely Nothing today via Nettwerk. Across ten heart-swelling, folk-infected pop songs, Alex grapples with the multitudes of life and emerges optimistic. Brought to life with upbeat melodies, plucked guitar and Alex’s signature vocals, the album is the work of a storyteller attuned to the world around her. WATCH & SHARE "CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE" Alex The Astronaut - Caught In The Middle (Official Video) “The Theory of Absolutely Nothing is ten stories that try to paint a picture of what the world looked like to me when I wrote them.” notes Alex. “I wanted the dark and the light to sit next to each other. I wanted listening to it to be kind of what it would be like to fly around and watch what all different people go through in one day.”
The album was co-produced by Ball Park Music’s Sam Cromack and Daniel Hanson, mixed by Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Beth Orton) and written / recorded across an 18-month period between Australia and the UK. Throughout The Theory Of Absolutely Nothing, Alex takes listeners on a journey of love, loss, pain and change. She weaves a constellation of stories about the personal reckonings that come with growing up, as heard on the album’s previously released singles including “I Think You’re Great,” “Split the Sky,” “Lost” and “Banksia,” which have received praise from the likes of NPR Music, The Guardian, Refinery29, Brooklyn Vegan and FLOOD Magazine.
A talented soccer player, Alex Lynn moved from Sydney to New York on a soccer scholarship in 2017 and studied Math and Physics at Long Island University. It was while she was in the US that she turned a streak of bold new life experiences into heart-swelling, folk-inflected pop songs under the name Alex the Astronaut.
Alex recently celebrated Pride month with performances on the Smithsonian’s Project Pride virtual celebrated and Pride.com’s virtual music festival PRIDE: INSIDE. She performed her 2017 song “Not Worth Hiding” an open letter to her 16-year-old self that details the journey to owning her sexuality, which arrived as Australia was debating marriage equality and became the unofficial anthem of the Vote Yes movement.
Alex the Astronaut has always had a supernatural knack for capturing human experience in song. On her debut album The Theory Of Absolutely Nothing, she grapples with the multitudes of life on a bigger scale than ever before and emerges optimistic.

“Alexandra Lynn is so adept at writing pop songs that capture the rush of young love, friendship, confusion, sadness and all those messy situations that dominate your early 20s" - The Guardian
“that’s the strength of Alex The Astronaut, her ability to make you relate, to catch you with a melody as you slowly realise a little part of yourself in the lyrics you’ve been subconsciously humming.” - The Line of Best Fit

Elohim Returns With New Single and Video, 'I'm Lost.'

ELOHIM RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO, 'I'M LOST' OUT NOW

CONFIRMS NEW ALBUM ON ITS WAYWATCH | LISTEN
‘I’M LOST’

Los Angeles artist, producer and songwriter Elohim returns with her epic and trippy new single ‘I’m Lost,’accompanied with the equally mind-bending Chase O’Black-directed official music video, also out today.

Sometimes it takes being lost to find your true self. For Elohim, her soul-searching quest culminated in her most self-assured material to date. Much like Björk and Radiohead, whose experimental sounds inspired Elohim to teach herself production at a young age, she incorporates such orchestral touches and sonic explorations to shape her moods, in her latest single ‘I'm Lost.’ A testament to admitting and accepting a situation in order to move forward, the track also captures the pure joy Elohim experienced in creating it. "I was playing these bizarre parts using manipulated synths and quite literally lost myself in the process for a moment. The sounds and keyboard parts, the whole experience, took me to another planet."

Listen to ‘I’m Lost’ HERE.

The tender ballad beginnings give way to a trippy beat-tipped passage, which is also reflected in its official music video. Shot during the pandemic, with scenes that include the California desert and the lawless town of Slab City, it weaves in post-production elements that capture the dissociative, hallucinatory vibes that ensue.

Watch the official music video for ‘I’m Lost’ HERE.

With over 300M+ combined global streams, an ever growing international fan-base and a soon to be released album, Elohim’s music explores the beauty of human connection. Her musical styles span the gamut from inventive electronic and indie alternative to unabashed pop with her stunning one-woman live shows set against a backdrop of breathtaking visuals that create an extrasensory experience.

Elohim’s last EP Braindead was released in May, 2019, with music and subject matter that dealt with the themes of mental illness. Elohim donated proceeds from the sales of the EP to mental health initiatives in commemoration of Mental Health Awareness Month and is involved with the  JED Foundation , a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation's teens and young adults. Elohim’s music has been featured on the BBC Future Music Playlist and has she has been named “Artist To Watch” by KCRW.

Elohim's journey has not been easy, but forging fearlessly through challenges, her story is one of resilience. In the half decade since Elohim released her first single, she's grown from the shy and enigmatic woman who hid her face, into a woman who's proud of conquering her fears and making the music she wants, on her own terms. "When you're in the trenches, it can be hard to see how bad things really are, but I often say you have to go through it to get through it,” she says of how bad things became with her mental health on the heels of her newfound success as an artist in the early days "I want to tell people, honestly, if I can do this, so can you.”

In other news, Elohim recently signed a long-term multi-album deal with ONErpm, one of the world’s largest YouTube Multi Channel Networks (MCN) specializing in music, and occupying a unique space between traditional record label and distribution company, leveraging proprietary technology, marketing, analytics and localized support to deliver business solutions to over 300,000 artists, music labels and video creators worldwide. Crass The Feeding of the Five Thousand Remix Project

Crass The Feeding of the Five Thousand Remix Project Remix singles ‘Normal Never Was III’ out August 21st via One Little Independent RecordsFeaturing Steve Aoki and Mikado Koko All proceeds going to Refuge  'Roxy (Unf*ck the World Steve Aoki Remix)'   'Asylum (Mikado Koko Remix)'   Smartlink Images Pre-order Refuge    “The furiously political British anarchist collective Crass lived their dogma with admirable rigor” – Rolling Stone “Arguably one of the most significant punk bands to ever exist” – Crack Magazine As part of their ambitious ‘The Feeding of the Five Thousand Remix Project’, punk pioneers Crass are returning with another exclusive coloured 12” single featuring remixes by legendary producer Steve Aoki and Japanese outsider musician Mikado Koko. Late last year Crass took the step of making the original separate track stems of their seminal debut album ‘The Feeding of the Five Thousand’ available as a free download. With a call to take the original sixteen track recording in its pre-mix state, the intent was for people to create their own remixes and interpretations and breathe fresh life and ideas into this revolutionary music. First released in 1978, ‘The Feeding of the Five Thousand’ pre-empted rap and grime in its hard-on-the-beat, fast fire, uncompromising lyrics and the iconic sounds and messages are ripe for reinterpretation. Crass encouraged people to rip apart the sound and ideas and create something new, then send the files to Crass Records for future releases and charitable projects. The message is DIY like it never was before. “Yours for the taking, yours for the making,” Crass said. “You do it, we’ll stew it. Mix it backwards, forwards and upside down. Turn up the heat and fix it with a downbeat, bring in the trumpets and let ‘em blow, let the piper call the tune to let us all know. It’s up to you to do what you like with it. The only limitation is your imagination.” In this latest release, the third in the series, ‘Banned From The Roxy’ is given a dirty, bass-heavy and anthemic turnaround by two-time Grammy nominated Aoki with ‘Roxy (Unf*ck the World Steve Aoki Remix)’, one that pushes the crucial original lyrics to the front but gleefully plays with the fast paced, maniacal beat. ‘Asylum (Mikado Koko Remix)’ preserves the antireligious spoken word piece with a subtle but no less impactful twist. Both serve to inject even more intensity to already powerful tracks and are crystal clear reminders of why Crass were so important, and remain so vital today. All monies raised from the project will go to the charity ‘Refuge’ who said; “We’re incredibly grateful to Crass and their team for helping raise vital funds for Refuge. Since the start of lockdown, Refuge has seen a 66% rise in demand for its Helpline, and a 950% rise in visits to its Helpline website. This shows the sheer extent of the need for specialist domestic abuse services – not just during lockdown but beyond. Every penny raised helps us to ensure that no woman or child is turned away from safety. ‘While lockdown itself doesn’t cause domestic abuse - abuse happens all year round - it does, of course, have the potential to aggravate pre-existing abusive behaviours – and the data we have shows us the increase in the need for our services during lockdown. Refuge worked incredibly hard at the beginning of the pandemic to make sure our services remained open and remained safe. The generous donations we have received, including those from Crass, mean we can continue to provide the life-saving and life-changing services that women experiencing domestic abuse need and deserve.” About Steve Aoki Steve Aoki, the two-time Grammy nominated producer/DJ is one of today’s most successful American cross-genre artists, collectively counting 2.8 billion music streams on Spotify. As the founder of the trendsetting record label, events/lifestyle company, and apparel line Dim Mak Records, which he founded in 1996, Aoki has helped launch the careers of global acts like The Chainsmokers, Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots, The Gossip, and The Kills, among many others. Dim Mak today counts more than 1,000 official releases from the biggest acts and most buzzing newcomers across EDM, indie rock, hip-hop and beyond over its two-decades-plus discography. As a solo artist, Aoki boasts a lauded discography that includes: Wonderland (2012), his debut solo album, which garnered him his first-ever Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album; hip-hop centric Kolony (2017), and the Neon Future series, which includes Neon Future I (2014, certified gold by the RIAA), Neon Future II (2015), Neon Future III (2018) and the recently released Neon Future IV (April 2020); which has rocketed in streaming to date and received praise from singles such as “Maldad” ft. Maluma and “Let It Be Me” ft. Backstreet Boys. Recognized by Forbes as one of the top 5 world’s highest paid DJ’s and the  world’s hardest working DJ , Aoki is “one of the most in-demand entertainers in the world” ( Billboard ), counting more than 250 tour dates per year. In 2012, Aoki founded  THE AOKI FOUNDATION , which primarily supports organizations in the brain science and research areas with a specific focus on regenerative medicine and brain preservation. Most recently, Steve Aoki released his critically acclaimed memoir entitled ‘BLUE: The Color of Noise’ published by St. Martin’s Press.  TwitterFacebookInstagramWebsite About Mikado Koko Mikado Koko is a Japanese outsider musician. Unconsciously Koko destroys what she learned from theatre, music and dance experience, and creates her works against the new authority. In summer 2017 she started her solo career as a club music producer with the elements of Japanese traditional music. Chuck Prophet Releases The Land That Time Forgot On Yep Roc Records

Chuck Prophet Releases The Land That Time Forgot On Yep Roc RecordsA "21st Century Exorcism" That "Serves As An Argument For Albums In 2020" (Associated Press)

Today, Chuck Prophet has released his new album The Land That Time Forgot on Yep Roc Records, a collection that he describes as a "21st Century exorcism" confronting American injustice from the Great Depression through "Nixonland" and into the present day. Co-written with fellow Bay Area artist klipschutz and recorded in Upstate New York after being priced out of their regular San Francisco haunts, The Land That Time Forgot confronts the inequality, economic hardship and self-serving politics that have too often repeated themselves through U.S. history. The results have garnered some of the highest praise of Prophet's lauded solo career. The Land The Time Forgot comes during a momentous period of Prophet's career, including the release of his official biography earlier this month - What Makes the Monkey Dance: The Life And Music Of Chuck Prophet And Green On Red by Stevie Simkin. Both Chuck and Stevie will sit down to discuss the book during virtual events with Green Apple Books in San Francisco today and Book Soup in Los Angeles on August 25. Chuck has also been hosting a weekly radio show on Gimmie Country, called Trip In The Country, which has seen him shine a light on Nashville's under-represented soul and R&B records of the 60s and 70s. To tune in visit  https://www.gimmecountry.com  at 2PM PT / 5PM ET each Friday.

But retro horns and chiming guitars provide sunny support." - Associated Press "Written before the COVID-19 pandemic and a wave of unrest...Prophet contemplating inequality, economic hardship and self-serving politics sounds strangely prescient." - San Francisco Chronicle "It may just be the anthem we need during these challenging times." - American Songwriter"If you allow yourself to be swept away, The Land That Time Forgot will reward you for it endlessly." - No Depression "Prophet is one of rock's great raconteurs...timeless." - MOJO "A prolific solo career that shows no signs of abating....The Land That Time Forgot is especially poignant for our times." - UNCUT "The 12-song set is sonically spacious yet never lagging in groove." - WMOT

Pink Martini Share New Single "The Lemonade Song" via Heinz Records

PINK MARTINI
SHARE NEW SINGLE “THE LEMONADE SONG” VIA HEINZ RECORDS SONG CO-WRITTEN BY BANDLEADER THOMAS LAUDERDALE AND SINGER CHINA FORBESPortland favorites Pink Martini have shared their second new single of the summer. “The Lemonade Song” is released today via their own label Heinz Records. As with the earlier “Let’s Be Friends”, the track was co-written by bandleader Thomas Lauderdale and singer China Forbes, the pair responsible for the band’s biggest hits. Forbes says: "Of all times this song can be taken to heart, this is the time. Everyone is innovating and persevering and surviving and hoping and making the best of our situation. I hope this song brings some levity and joy and even more hope to everyone!”
LISTEN TO “THE LEMONADE SONG” HERE
Lauderdale and Forbes once again teamed with writer/producer Jim Bianco for the tune which, with its timeless and sophisticated sound, is about how life’s sour notes can make the sweet notes even sweeter. Together “The Lemonade Song” and “Let’s Be Friends” marks a return from the band since 2018’s EP, Bésame Mucho and Tomorrow.
Throughout their history, on record and live in concert, Pink Martini has featured a dozen musicians with songs in 25 languages, and they perform their multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout the world. Pink Martini’s albums have collectively sold over 3 million copies worldwide, all on the band’s own label, Heinz Records. The New York Times has called singer China Forbes “an unpretentious, pitch-perfect chanteuse” and Variety has noted, “(Pink Martini are) impressive at every musician’s station, this ensemble produces music that’s charming and elegant …” The Washington Post says, "this is rich, hugely approachable music, utterly cosmopolitan yet utterly unpretentious. And it seems to speak to just about everybody.”
In 1994 Lauderdale had finished college and returned to his hometown of Portland, OR. He was working at City Hall with an eye towards running for office. Being a classically trained pianist, music was always in the background, and he formed his “little orchestra” Pink Martini as a means to provide music for political fundraisers for progressive causes near to his heart - including civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, and public broadcasting. China Forbes, Lauderdale’s friend from their college days at Harvard, joined the group the following year, and the first song they wrote together, “Sympathique” (Je ne veus pas travailler), became an overnight sensation in France, where it remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” translates to “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers. Politics continues to be a focal point for the band, as both Lauderdale and Pink Martini lend their voice to progressive causes.

ANABEL ENGLUND Drops New Single "Picture Us" - Out Today, August 21 via AREA10/Ultra Records

ANABEL ENGLUND IS BACK WITH NEW SINGLE“PICTURE US”
OUT TODAY, AUGUST 21 VIA AREA10/ULTRA RECORDS
LISTEN NOW HERE
SONG TO APPEAR ON ‘MESSING WITH MAGIC,’ HER DEBUT ALBUMOUT THIS FALL

Electric songstress Anabel Englund seeks to share her personal connection with music, creative writing, and people in her artistic output.  Today, August 21, she offers “Picture Us,” a brand-new single on AREA10/Ultra Records.
Listen now here: https://ffm.to/pictureus
“Picture Us”—written before COVID—is inspired by the PBS documentary “A Year In Space” which follows astronaut twins as one heads to space and the other remains earthbound. Connection is a staple in Englund’s songwriting and for “Picture Us” she taps into the special bonds between people using the twin astronauts, who even though are thousands of miles apart, are still intertwined. It tells a story of two people who get through dark times together, knowing they can always count on each other.
The new single follows several standout releases from Anabel Englund over the last few months.  “So Hot” --remixed by AREA10 label boss MK and Nightlapse--now has over six million streams on Spotify alone and hit #1 on Dance Radio for 8 weeks in a row, “Warm Disco” with Lee Foss, which landed her on the cover of Spotify’s mint playlist, “See The Sky” which was remixed by Tracy Young, the first ever female GRAMMY-Award winner for “Best Remix Production” (Non-Classical), and “Messing With Magic” with Jamie Jones. These songs and more will appear on Englund’s debut album due out on Ultra Music this fall.

A Song for Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer is proud to confirm a performance by Jeff Tweedy. Catch the event today, August 21—Joe Strummer’s Birthday— livestreaming at 3:00pm ET (12:00pm PT and 8:00pm BST).
Produced by Jesse Malin, Jeff Raspe and Joe Strummer estate manager, David Zonshine, A Song for Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer will be a two-hour event that will stream for free at JoeStrummer.com, with all donations benefiting Save Our Stages
The night will be hosted by Jesse Malin and will feature never before seen live footage of Strummer, alongside special performances and testimonials by many of the former Clash frontman’s friends and peers.
“To see so many musicians and artists come forward to honor Joe is really touching,” says Joe’s wife Lucinda Tait. “Community was always important to him. Whether it was playing music with friends, organizing all night campfires, or hijacking festivals, Joe was always focused on bringing people together. Even though we can't all be in the same room together, I cannot think of a better way for us all to feel united. Joe would have loved this.”
“This tribute to Joe is not only a great way to honor him, but to also remind people how important his message is right now,” adds Malin.
As the co-owner of the downtown New York nightclubs Bowery Electric, Niagara and Berlin, the live music scene is very close to Malin’s heart. “Very few venues are going to be able to survive,” writes Jesse in his Rolling Stone story about the live venue crisis. “We need real financial help from the federal government, like they just did in Britain with the $2 billion-dollar bailout. The government needs to acknowledge that the arts are essential to our culture, community and growth.”

COIL's 'Musick to Play in the Dark' to be re-issued for the first time in 20 years by Dais Records

DAIS RECORDS TO RE-ISSUE COIL'S MASTERPIECE MUSICK TO PLAY IN THE DARK
AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS ON CD / DELUXE 2xLP / DIGITAL
OUT NOVEMBER 27, 2020, LISTEN TO 'ARE YOU SHIVERING?'  HERE
Few groups in recent history forged as confounding and alchemical a body of work as Coil, the partnership of Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson and John Balance. From album to album and phase to phase their recordings spelunk perplexing depths of esoteric industrial, occult electronics, and drugged poetry, both embodying and alienating parallel currents of their peers.

The late 1990's in particular were a fertile era for the duo, embracing chance, chaos, and collaboration, enhanced by recent advancements in synthesis and sampling. Fittingly, at the summit of the decade's long, intoxicated arc, their divergent strains of interstitial ritual congealed into one of Coil's most celebrated and hallucinatory creations:  Musick To Play In The Dark .

Convening at Balance and Christopherson's vast Victorian house / studio in the coastal town of Weston-super-Mare, they began a series of ambitious sessions aided by inner circle associates Thighpaulsandra and Drew McDowall. Although the creative process was admittedly “iterative” and “a bit of a drug blur,” the results are astoundingly inventive and well realized, winding through shades of divination dirge, wormhole kosmische, noir lounge, ominous humor, and black mass downtempo, guided by Balance's cryptic lunar muse, which he announces on the opening track: “This is moon music / in the light of the moon.”

What's most remarkable about the album 20 years after its release is how brazen, insular, and unpredictable it still feels. The songs follow an allusive, altered state logic all their own, warping from microscopic ripples of glitch and breath to widescreen warlock psychedelia and back again, as much hyper-sensory as inter- dimensional. Even within a catalog as eclectic as Coil's, Music is a mystifying collection, oneiric evocations of desire, decadence, dinner jazz, and dietary advice, far beyond the pale of whatever gothic industrial ambiguity birthed such a journey.

The record closes with a slow, starlit shuffle, bathed in seething sweeps of spectral texture and high cathedral keys, like approaching the altar of some arcane temple. As the trance thickens Balance's voice rises, processed into an increasingly eerie, gaseous haze, but he resists these unseen forces, intent on delivering a final sermon: “Through hissy mists of history / the dreamer is still dreaming / the dreamer is still dreaming.”

Reissued for the first time in over 20 years, now on double vinyl LP with the complete, unedited versions of each song and an exclusive "D-side" vinyl art etching. Packaged in a sturdy matte jacket with embossed lettering and spot-gloss design elements. The compact disc version mirrors this design, and comes housed in thick tip-on "LP style" packaging. Both formats are completely remastered by engineer Josh Bonati with restored artwork and layout by Nathaniel Young - all under the project supervision of Drew McDowall and Thighpaulsandra.
